You're missing the bigger picture here... Operation Mindcrime was a true "album", or what people today call a "concept album". If you listen to the entire album from beginning to end, it tells a story, like an audible movie... If y'all have the time, I HIGHLY recommend listening to the whole album from beginning to end in one sitting...
Seriously, you guys NEED TO (AS IN MUST, AS IN HAVE TO) listen to the album, reading the lyrics of each song along the way, in its entirety, from Anarchy X/Revolution Calling through to Eyes of a Stranger to fully appreciate what you just heard... Seriously - this is no joke. Your minds WILL be blown!
What Arley said! This song is definitely awesome on its own but the way that it closes the Operation Mindcrime album just brings it all together and yes, it is mind blowing. This album is damn near perfection.
Arley Simpson Absolutely, I would argue it's the greatest concept album in metal. Just the sheer passion and emotion-charged energy from beginning to end is absolutely incredible. It's one of those albums that needs to be listened uninterrupted until the end while also paying very close attention to the lyrics.
Ryan... George... I'm with so many others here. If you ever decide to do a reaction to an entire album, THIS IS THE ONE to do. Amazing story from start to finish.
You mean the rich control the government, the media, the law. To make some kind of difference, then everyone must know. Eradicate the fascist, revolution will grow.
WhiskeyBrewer - Exactly what I was gonna say. This entire album is amazing. As were their Albums before and after Operation Mindcrime. I saw them on this tour and also have the Operation Livecrime cd/dvd box set which is also great.
FYI: this is one of the greatest albums ever made - a concept album with a story. yes, like a movie. an amazing one. listen to the album & read the lyrics or get the live dvd performance to really be wowwed.
Ab-Dhul Alif Qadr Muhammad wouldn't really compare it to 1984, seeing as the story is entirely different. Basically a junkie gets hired as a hit man for a homicidal anarchist group. Falls in love with one of his targets, and runs away with her. At the end his former employer finds them, kills her, and sets him up to take the fall.
Made my week!!!! Geoff Tate was classically trained by his mother, who I believe was an opera singer. This album is a concept album. You really need to listen to the entire album. The story is awesome!!Sending lots of love from Louisiana!! #Freethinkers!!
Love the fact you can hear the bass separately too. I guess the style of riffs they write give the bass room to breathe rather than just copying the main riff. Great mixing as well
Operation: Mindcrime is an absolute CLASSIC, masterpiece of an album, top to bottom. You guys need to actually listen to it in its entirety as it is the very definition of a concept album. You simply cannot get the full effect of the story they are telling by listening to only a few tracks. That would be similar to reading Stephen King's IT by only choosing a few chapters - its just not right. :) And you absolutely won't get the entire story context at all. That said, "Eyes..." is one of the more "poppy", hook-laden tunes QR has ever done. "I Don't Believe In Love" is another and one of my personal favorites. And of course, "Suite Sister Mary" and "Mission" are must listen tracks from this album as well. Do yourselves a favor guys...listen to the ENTIRE Operation: Mindcrime from start to finish, especially with good headphones. You'll thank me for sure. :) cheers and rock on!
Geoff Tate is amazing and vocal range isn't everything, but there are a few that have/had a 5 octave range like Warrel Dane(RIP) that are/were pretty amazing too. Warrel was also better when he was younger IDK if he quite had a 5 octave range later in his career, but in his later Sanctuary albums he could definitely hit high notes pretty well still, and maybe not as high but i think they sounded better and more powerful. Lesser known than Rob Halford and maybe King Diamond(who I guess is 4 octaves and 2 notes), IDK how many that know Warrel from Nevermore have heard much Sanctuary, I didn't really know about them until I randomly heard a song on Stingray on TV 3 years ago. Didn't realize it was Warrel until I heard the track Sanctuary on RUclips, and it sounded more like his Nevermore voice. But they released 2 albums early on, you could tell his range was suffering their second album, a lot was drugs/alcohol related then he left for Nevermore until 2015 or so releasing 2 more albums, one a remake of their debut Refuge Denied if I have that right off the top of my head.
I probably underestimate how rare a 4 octave range is though, a lot of it is just natural range where training can certainly help, but most will never get there. I've been wanting to get into training myself, back in HS I realized I can hit high notes naturally really well when I was trying to match Phil's high pitched notes in Cemetery Gates, I nailed them all pretty well. But I can't do it as well from years of smoking and drinking but quit smoking 3 years ago and don't really drink anymore, we'll see. I know I can hit the low-E on guitar, I think I could do 4 octaves but not necessarily well. But I suck at singing lol.
The only bad thing is that that they (George & Ryan) are not getting the full effect of this album without hearing the WHOLE thing. Queensryche’s Operation: Mindcrime is a concept album, based pretty tightly on the story of a heroin addict named Nikki who gets involved with a secret revolutionary organization run by a man known only as Dr. X. As the album opens, Nikki is in a psychiatric hospital with amnesia, but reports on television of political assassinations suddenly bring memories flooding back through the rest of the album. Controlled by his addiction, Nikki is put to use by Dr. X, but when he meets a prostitute-turned-nun named Sister Mary, he begins to question his actions. Seeing the threat, Dr. X orders him to kill Mary and the corrupt priest at her church. Nikki can’t go through with it, and tells Dr. X that he wants out, but Nikki is still controlled by his addiction. He returns to Mary only to find her dead and begins the rapid descent into insanity that lands us back at the beginning of the album.
Geoff Tate was classically trained in opera. Listen to some of the rest of the album. It’s pretty amazing the range he will achieve. Empire and Silent Lucidity are Worth a listen too
Actually, no he wasn't. He had a voice coach when he was young and thought he might go into opera but that was it. Great singer-known him for 40 years but he wasn't classically trained at all.
Lars, the very first time I heard Queensryche was '83 on 'The Metal Shop' which was a 2 hour metal show on WDVE in Pittsburgh. Ron Nenny, the DJ at that time, played 'Queen of The Reich' and I'm flipping out going, "Who are THESE guys??? And who's the SINGER?????"
@FatalPies....depends on the vocal style....Rage for order was Tates best...but Midnight maintained his ability almost to the point of his untimely death...... I just don't feel that Tate was miles ahead of all the other vocalists of the 80's...for examples ....Kiske,Dio,Halford,Dickinson, & John Arch..just to mention a few
Actually, when queensryche came out, Geoff Tate had a way different type of voice than most bands back in the 80's! Geoff Tate is unbelievable! Great band! Great song! The whole album, operation mind crime, is absolutely amazing from start to finish. Great job guys 👍 love what y'all are doing!
Mindcrime is one of the best records of all time ( yes records!! I am 48 ) You HAVE to listen to the whole thing. Geoff Tate is one of the greatest rock voices ever. Powerful story Fantastic songs all the way through!! Start the album and listen from start to finish!!!! Best album of '88!!
I was actually married to their Original Bass player ..................no joke...EDIT: please react to Queen of the Reich live in Tokyo japan 1984. it will literally blow your mind!
This album came out in 1988. I was turned onto it in 1990. At the time, I was a so-so metal guy. I remember hearing this album, and only liking a few songs here and there. Later, I noticed the songs actually weren't making much sense lyrically as individual songs, so I started reading the lyrics. That's when I realized it was a rock opera, not unlike the Who's 'Tommy,' or Pink Floyd's 'The Wall,' and decided to really follow along with the story. What happened next transformed my world. The affinity I share with this album has transcended 30 years, and is STILL my all-time favorite. I truly was inspired by the storyline, NOT the main plot about the homicidal main character Nikki, obviously, but rather to the peripheral commentary on the socio-political world around me. It forced me follow media with a more discerning eye, and challenged my religious beliefs. What's ironic about you guys joking about the 80's vibe of the music is that much of the album lyrically still holds up in today's climate. I can't tell you guys how much I appreciate watching YOU appreciate 'Eyes...', but the posts below are correct. You really have to listen to the whole album and follow the lyrics to take in the story to truly appreciate the concept. But thanks for this reaction vid! I love it!
Every Queensryche album i listen to is a Rock Opera. From start to finish. It's a story/adventure taking you on a journey using music. My personal favorite is RAGE to ORDER album though.
Guys, you gotta listen to this whole album! Playing "Eyes Of A Stranger" first is like skipping to the final scene of a movie. You need the context of the songs before this one. But, then again, it is an amazing song on it's own!
When this album came out, as soon as I heard the intro, I knew this was going to be epic. But after listening to the entire album the very first time, I think I ended up listening to it back-to-back-to-back at least 10 times in a row. The story line of Nikki, Sister Mary, and Dr. X is gripping. Anyway, I couldn't agree with you more about how this is like skipping to the final scene of a movie. I've seen Queensrÿche at least 8 times (one of those was during their "Livecrime" tour), and this was by far one of my top 5 concerts.
Glad you enjoyed! Hell of a tune. I'd say it's a good thing you didn't dive into the lyrics yet. This album has a whole storyline behind it and this song is the conclusion. Have you guys considered reacting to a concept album in the future?
5:45 1.) That’s Chris DeGarmo for you. One of the most underrated guitarists and song writers in rock history. He had a great sense for lead guitar melody.
You can't really just listen to one song from this album. The album tells a story and each song is a chapter. You're missing it if you only listen to one song.
Hey guys. Your the first reaction channel to do any Queensryche. Thank you. That was badass. Operation Mindcrime is arguably the best metal album of all time. It's right up there with Master Of Puppets by Metallica. Here's some other Queensryche songs to react to, please: Queen Of the Reich Empire Best I Can (this is the drummer's favorite song to perform live) I Don't Believe In Love
Nola West saw him live it was Epic, sound just like he’s in a studio and this wasn’t too long ago! Still has it! Trivia, he trained as a classical opera singer and...it shows! Skills fosho!
Nola West I saw them in Baltimore during OMC tour Geoff hit a note during that show and a shit ton of ppl including me literally lost our balance and got vertigo. It entered your ears and felt as if ur brain and eyes were shaking left to right rapidly and uncontrollably. And no I wasnt high. Everyone around me was looking around and saying "wtf was that?!" And "what the hell just happened?!" Weirdest thing I?hv ever experienced at a concert.
David Thompson OMGosh - That's So Amazing... I Wish I'd Been There!!! SOUNDS LIKE A DREAM TO ME, LOL! Thanks for Sharing! YOU PUT A GIANT SMILE ON MY FACE THIS MORNING... I NEEDED THAT ~ PEACE!
Nola West Glad you enjoyed the story. Was a show I will never forget. Still luv these guys. I actually listened to Warning album lastnite at work. Luv that whole album too. Sanctuary hits me right in the heart everytime. Enjoy your day. Peace to you.
Truly the best album Queensryche ever did. I'm a fan of all their music but this is there masterpiece. Can't count the number of times I've listened to this album, grew up in the 80s and it is always been part of my life. It has everything you could want from an album beautiful music ,rich storytelling and it's a concept album. Everything came together when they wrote this. Will listen to this till the day I die.
Operation Mindcrime is basically a cinematic experience in audio. If you listen to the entire album in one sitting you feel that experience. Basically a story about a troubled youth addicted to drugs gets brainwashed into a government sanctioned hitman. This album tells from his origins to his death. So powerful. When an album meant something. Not a 99 cent download.
Matthew Bousum SPOILER ALERT!!!!! He doesn't die. There's an Operation Mind Crime 2, where he gets out of jail and seeks revenge. Not as good as the original as Geoff's voice has weakened over the years, but not bad. Check it out.
one of the best for sure so many songs with meaningful lyrics, they should do a reaction to the most reacted to band/singer/song on YT : NIGHTWISH - Ghost Love Score (OFFICIAL LIVE) : Wacken 2013, : ruclips.net/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/видео.html
h c Yes, Revolution Calling and The Mission are my two favourite songs off the album. Sister Suite Mary is alright but it is very plot driven and overly dramatic whereas the other two can be listened to out of the context of the album and still stand on their own
David D. yep, I agree with that although seeing live suite sister mary a long time ago was a thrilling experience due to the beautiful duet with a woman ... very dramatic !!! Actually, seeing live the all mindcrime in one shot was maybe one of the most intense live I experienced (very different from Motorhead live :))) But in the album version, Revolution Calling with its anarchy X intro is the acme of the album (just my point of view) ... A lot less mainstream than eyes of a stranger which is kind of FM rock oriented (and this sounds even more true listeningit now in 2018). The mission is second best ...
Oh hell yeah!!! The mighty 'Ryche and roll!!! Operation Mindcrime is still one of the greatest concept albums of all time. And Geoff Tate's voice here, oh wow!
Holy shit you did Queensryche?! Wow seriously you guys surprised me with this one. Can't wait to dig in but had to comment and hit that like before listening. Paolo Nutini - Iron Sky soon? ✌️
This song can only be fully appreciated by listening to the whole album! It's a concept album, so each song is part of a whole story. Operation: Mindcrime is on my list as one of the masterpiece albums where every single song on it is of the same caliber and quality. And the story this album tells is fucking amazing! Check it out!
Rage to Order album. Love the entire album. Walk in the Shadows See only in Infrared Going to get close to you... I always pictured a Vampire behind these songs.
I'm thrilled y'all did Queensryche!!! You need to listen to this album from beginning to end...it's one complete "story" and it'll give you the full effect and new appreciation for this song...also read the lyrics. Can you react to "Suite Sister Mary" from this album?? I've seen Queensryche numerous times...I've also been to the concert where they did this whole ablum...they don't do that anymore. I hope y'all have a wonderful and blessed day!!! ☺☺☺☺ 🐧🐧 Oh...the 80's did have some cheesy songs but that's what made it great!!! 🐧🐧
My dudes, this whole album is amazing. Widely considered by the metal community to be one of the best concept albums around (at least its always brought up). You guys must do Dire Straights - Sultans of Swing!
This album is like a movie - this is *seriously* an album that warrants a straight-thru listen, with lyrics in hand, preferebly with headphones, at least once.
Thank you! Mindcrime was a life altering album for me back in the day. Even now, 30 years later, I still listen to it in its entirety at least once a week.
Operation: Mindcrime is an excellent concept album. It's like a dystopian science fiction story, set to music. It delves into the media controlling how people think, and power brokers calling the shots behind the veil of religion, business, and government. It's almost uncanny how on point it still is, considering what's going on today.
It's a thinking man's album for sure. It always stirred me but when I was younger I could only put my own frame of reference to it and had to try to expand on it without any real way to do so. I hear these songs now and it's a whole different ball game.
Guys, it’s definitely 80’s LOL but that’s no issue. The issue is that you need to listen to the entire album and then feel the need to realize you have been blown away after listening to this Epic album. If you still feel like lumping it in 80’s music, saying the idea of it’s inability to be taking seriously as phenomenal art? Well, you have the freedom to feel that way for sure. So listen to the album and take in the lyrical content and let us know if it’s worthy of great music per your opinion 😊
I would go with Chance, even as dynamic as it is, it's just so well written and executed, Ryan and George may go head over heals for it. But Hall of the Mountain King they may love as well.
allmediareviews.blogspot.com Exactly :) The music reflects the lyrics perfectly (and I love the lyrics of this song) and overall it's just a great song
Hall of the Mountain King yes. Gutter Ballet, no. While it's a popular song it's not one of their best. I'm tired of hearing it actually. When the Crowds Are Gone would be better.
Who could give anything you guys do a thumbs down. This is a classic album. They had a very original sound and their singer is one of the best in the genre. Their use of odd chords and building songs is always good and original. Every song on this album is great. It’s a concept album with a great story. I’m glad you guys liked this. Join the Patreon channel, I joined it and I love it! You guys help me as a musician believe it or not. I listen to what you say and it gives me great ideas of what people want. Great job guys.
This album is my number 1 album of ALL TIME! Heavy Metal perfection this one. Its a concept album fellas, story from start to finish. Its an incredible album. Thanks for doing this 👍👍
Glad you guys did this group.. fun fact- tthis album was a " rock opera" this was the concept for this album.. I saw this concert and they had a screen, ( video) in the background so you could follow the story. It was a story of a durg addict... Yes it was done in the late 80's.
you have to listen to the whole album. it's a concept album. a whole spy, love story. Geoff tate is a classically trained opera singer. you have no idea how great his range is, or was. incredible band.
Queensryche is such a great band, many Killers songs. Love the reaction, greetings from Chile. Take hold of the flame is another great from Queensryche.
Nice to see you guys doing Queensryche, especially this album, but agree with some of the other comments on here. Doing this song first is literally jumping to the last chapter of an incredible story. This album is widely regarded as one of the best concept albums ever, especially in metal. Going to be hard to pick and choose songs out of this one. But if you don't do any other songs on this album Suite Sister Mary is one of the more overarching songs displaying their wide range of talents and styles. I definitely would love to see more Queensryche though (just from Promised Land and Earlier though, they definitely slipped later).
Listening to just this song is like only hearing 2 sentences out of a 1 hour conversation. The album is the piece of art, the individual songs are just small glimpses of the masterpiece. This album is worth a few listens and a few reads through the lyrics. If you two free thinkers care to take a glimpse of another masterpiece, I would suggest Savatage - Streets (A Rock Opera). This album changed the way I look at music as whole. Love the channel, you guys are awesome. Salute.
Excellent! These guys were so good. This album in particular was one of those I listened to over and over. It’s a story from the first song to the last about religion, politics, corruption, etc. Every song tells a different piece of the story. If you ever decide to react to an entire album, this has to be on the list. Likewise, if you decide to dig into the lyrics of this song, it’s worth looking at the songs on either side of it. Like reading a book, you’re only getting one chapter here. The song definitely stands well on its own though. Always enjoy your videos guys, thanks for doing what you do!
Now do yourselves a favor and please listen to the entire album. Operation Mindcrime is debatably the greatest concept album ever written. Great music. Great story
His voice is that way at first as the song is part of an entire story. Not just a song. He sings as a character with certain feelings behind each song. Gotta hear whole album.
You guys HAVE to review the whole album. It is still regarded as one of the best hard rock/metal albums of all time, it's a masterpiece of storytelling and musicianship and still relevant today. Do it in two parts - Pt 1: I Remember Now - Suite Sister Mary and then Pt 2: The Needle Lies - Eyes of a Stranger. You and the viewers will not be disappointed.
Awesome! This was one of my favorites as a teen. The whole album "Operation Mindcrime" is great. Its a concept album so its really meant to be listened all the way through like a movie. You just listened to the final scene lol. Please do Porcupine Tree - Blackest Eyes
They did the entire Mindcrime album live on the Empire tour in 1991...insane....They also opened for Metallica on the And Justice tour in 89, after Mindcrime and before Empire. I was there. I'm old.
Oh yeah!!! Queensryche is top-shelf progressive rock/metal and this tune and album are amazing! In my opinion, they are INFINITELY superior to Altar Bridge. As an aside, Operation: Mindcrime is a concept album. GREAT choice!
Joseph Polito I like Queensryche but I'm taking AB all day and every day. Mark Tremonti just writes better guitar riffs and leads. He's also a crazy good songwriter.
Joseph Polito lol. You gave your opinion. I gave mine. That's how this all sorta works. And personally, I could care less if you like AB. I simply responded to your opinion. NOW, I'll move on.
I will agree with a majority of those who have posted comments here: If you ever have occasion to do a REACTION to one entire album? This is definitely the one. It is indeed a concept album and the story arc starts from the first song and goes until the end of the album. It is very bleak and very dark, with bitter cynicism coloring the lyrics and the story they are telling. It's set in a dystopian time in the future, not unlike Rush's 2112. HOWEVER. The main character in the story, essentially the narrator in this song, becomes a killer for hire. He has a rampant heroin addiction and those in power know this and exploit his addiction for their own nefarious plans. Basically, he's always chasing the dragon, a reference to his ever-increasing dependence on the drug. Those in power tell him they will gladly help feed his dragon, as long as he kills both Mary, whom he believes he loves, and the priest, because both of them know what is going on with those in power and that knowledge has made them expendable. They are far too dangerous to be left alive, so they must be silenced. Anyway. That's just a piece of the larger story as a whole. Each of the songs stand alone as great songs, but listened to together, in chronological order from the beginning of this album until the end will truly give you an even greater appreciation for both Queensryche the band, and this particular concept album specifically. The other thing worth noting, someone else mentioned that Geoff Tate, their lead singer, received voice training from his opera-singing mother. So, quite often what he was doing vocally back in their earlier days was showcasing his four or five octave vocal range. (Sadly he's lost most of that range these days.) Trust me: give the whole album a thorough listen and a REACTION. You will not regret it.
I agree but EOAS really shows off his range and dynamics. Like how low he goes on the word "you"..... "I see something that reminds me of you..." and then how high he goes on the word "always" ...."No happy endings like they always promised." That's the parts these guys chopped out and/or just didn't hear. It's sad....
Helloween - Invitation/Eagle Fly Free Queensryche - Walk in the Shadows Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King or Strange Wings King Diamond - Sleepless Nights Mercyful Fate - A Dangerous Meeting
Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King or Strange Wings Queensryche - Walk In The Shadows are total hits In Helloween's favor I would opine with " I Want Out"
Rocker095150 If you listen to Sleepless Nights, you have to hear the entire double concept - Them and Conspiracy. While I agree that O:M is one of the best concept albums ever, O:M2 did not live up to its promise. No such problem with Them and Conspiracy. Also, Abigail (the album before Them) is a great concept album, as well (different story, though).
Fastest watch ever. Haven’t even watched your reaction yet and already liking it. Queensrÿche is one of the best metal bands from the 80’s and 90’s. Gotta react/review the entire Operation: Mindcrime album!
You're missing the bigger picture here... Operation Mindcrime was a true "album", or what people today call a "concept album". Well we actually called it a concept album back then also.
I have always wanted it to be a Broadway show...

The album is a complete story and you just listened to the last chapter...
Just got back from seeing Geoff Tate's Operation Mindcrime; album played in it's entirety. I agree a reaction is needed for the whole album.
Agreed! I saw Queensryche perform this album live when it first came out- STILL one of my favorite albums and favorite bands of all time!!!
Agree
That record changed my life man. One of the best underrated records of that era. I say the song "SPEAK" has some of the best lyrics relevant today.

I love operation mindcrime (the song)
Spot on. I feel the same way about this album. Usually if I hear just one song from the album, it makes me wanna go back and play the whole album.
Geoff Tate (lead singer) is known as one of the greatest metal vocalists ever...4 octave vocal range!!

You obviously don't know who King Diamond is
The only bad thing is that that they (George & Ryan) are not getting the full effect of this album without hearing the WHOLE thing.
Great singer-known him for 40 years but he wasn't classically trained at all.
would have been interesting to have him sing something with Floor Jansen of Nightwish
Really I didn’t know that, his voice is amazing!
Classically trained singer same as Nancy Wilson had the same teacher I forget his name he passed away up in Seattle.
Geoff Tate has a ridiculous vocal range. Check out Take Hold of the Flame. Those highs are insane.
THIS!!^^^ Take Hold of the Flame LIVE IN JAPAN!
yes yes yes
The best queensryche track
Lars, the very first time I heard Queensryche was '83 on 'The Metal Shop' which was a 2 hour metal show on WDVE in Pittsburgh. Ron Nenny, the DJ at that time, played 'Queen of The Reich' and I'm flipping out going, "Who are THESE guys??? And who's the SINGER?????"
Yes they are...indeed
But even in the 80's these vocals were miles ahead of all other singers. Just sayin
Rob Halford...
ahem.....Midnight from Crimson Glory....
As Ronnie James Dio would testify.
please listen to operation mindcrime start to finish. Amazing concept album
bofuscrapshaw Agree. It will even make more sense musically, not only storwise.
All of there albums rocked and still do bro
Completely agree. Listening to the song removed from the album felt too weird to me.
How did my recommending mind crime imply in any way that the rest of their work is not great?
bofuscrapshaw ...underground revolution working overtime!
😯
lol WHAT!?
LOST IN VEGAS HERES the song listen for yourself sorry bout the caps!! ruclips.net/video/GOBQ8m48bQQ/видео.html
i was married to the original drummer....maybe we know each other?
monicajean37 I think they're a little shocked, stunned and saddened by the use of the word "Was" lmao :D
I love it!
Thank you Cindy :) We Rychers gotta stick together haha
Every Queensryche album i listen to is a Rock Opera. From start to finish. It's a story/adventure taking you on a journey using music.
My personal favorite is RAGE to ORDER album though.
Still 30 years later, my favorite album of all time. It’s flawless. What a great story
I Don't Believe In Love is another good song by them
Or almost anything off of that or The Dark Saga! They are overdue for Iced Earth.
Megan Young I love the song!
Holly Muir one of my favorites too
Great song
Guys, you gotta listen to this whole album! Playing "Eyes Of A Stranger" first is like skipping to the final scene of a movie. You need the context of the songs before this one. But, then again, it is an amazing song on it's own!
Cool Magic ForUm, exactly!
Cool Magic ForUm absolutley!
This is a concept album. I highly recommend listening to the whole thing beginning to end.
Rhonda Estep The sequel is not near as good but worth at least a listen.
Back when bands made ‘albums’. Masterpiece 👏👏👏👌
''I Don't Believe in Love'' is a cool track to check out as well. It's also very 80s and from the same album.
Suite Sister Mary
Imperfect Band I prefer it to eyes of a stranger
the secrent ingredient is chris degarmo
hell yes
Once he left it was over. Saddest break up ever
Truer words have not been spoken
Queensryche are one of the true pioneers of Progressive Metal. Welcome to the beginning...
King Crimson, Rush…
@@akumakumakuma1 Yes, Genesis, ELP....
@@ajschroetlin2196 Yes, Genesis and ELP pioneers of Prog Metal? I don't see how.
@@akumakumakuma1 Then you need to listen to all three. Their old stuff. Start with Heart of the Sunrise by Yes.
@@ajschroetlin2196 Oh Yes! Relayer! Bill Brufford is amazing there. ;)
Here's some other Queensryche songs to react to, please:
Queen Of the Reich
Empire
Best I Can (this is the drummer's favorite song to perform live)
I Don't Believe In Love
James Hartwell i agree, operation mindcrime was thr best album ever, it was crafted so well
Take hold of the flame-Queensryche
His vocal range will blow your mind!!!
GEOFF TATE's Voice Still Gives Me Chills!!! XOXO
Nola West saw him live it was Epic, sound just like he’s in a studio and this wasn’t too long ago! Still has it! Trivia, he trained as a classical opera singer and...it shows! Skills fosho!
Touchstone Jean Yeah... that makes so much sense, Opera!!! Thanks!
I listen to this album at the very least once a month. I love this album.
Still prefer The Warning above all their recordings.
Cronos of Venom that's my second favorite Queensryche album. I just got to go for operation mindcrime because of the concept.
Omg, one of my favorite albums ever. You have to listen to the whole album, it's amazing and Geoff has a killer voice!
one of the best for sure so many songs with meaningful lyrics, they should do a reaction to the most reacted to band/singer/song on YT : NIGHTWISH - Ghost Love Score (OFFICIAL LIVE) : Wacken 2013, : ruclips.net/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/видео.html
He really does, a great singer
You need to hear their masterpiece: Queensrÿche - Suite Sister Mary
That songs amazing
Yep, but revolution calling is damn good either with quite interesting lyrics
h c Yes, Revolution Calling and The Mission are my two favourite songs off the album.
The mission is second best ...
never forgetti Silent Lucidity
Oh hell yeah!!! The mighty 'Ryche and roll!!! Operation Mindcrime is still one of the greatest concept albums of all time. And Geoff Tate's voice here, oh wow!
Chris De Garmo IS THE MAN!!! Totally underrated guitarist.
Agree!
Crypto Jihadi when he left I lost interest in QR!
Yeah, rumor has it he was the mastermind behind the songs. Really, while he was with them, their melodies were grade A +++
Agreed! I'm a big DeGarmo fan.
Crypto Jihadi HELL FUCKING YEA HE IS!
Spreading the Disease... gives me goosebumps every time and is my favourite on this brilliant album.
The opening riff always gives me the chills. "She always gives me what I need!!!!"
Holy shit you did Queensryche?! Wow seriously you guys surprised me with this one. Can't wait to dig in but had to comment and hit that like before listening. Paolo Nutini - Iron Sky soon? ✌️
Ryan Sullivan OMG! Paulo Nutini Iron Sky, YYEESS!!
Megadeth - Hangar 18, if you already heard it, please do dystopia or never walk alone, YOU GUYS WILL NOT REGRET IT!
"I Don't Believe in Love" off thee same album is another great song by Queensryche.
Just choose a song from that album , and you chosen a great song.
There is no other band that, so brilliantly, pulled off a dark rock opera. Geoff is a machine.
OMG!!!!!!! Thanks Ryan and Geroge You Rule!!!! It was an concept record. I did see this tour it was awesome!!!!
Walk in the Shadows - Queensryche
PowerCert Animated Videos epic song..heard it live before the split. Front row center it was encore song. Man o man .blew me away. Was so psyched.
Nice
Best queensryche song. The epitome of Queensryche from what I think is one of the best albums ever made "Rage for order"
Can't forget "The Whisper" and their rendition of DalBello's "Gonna Get Close To You", both songs are pure eargasms.
Rage to Order album.
Love the entire album.
Walk in the Shadows
See only in Infrared
Going to get close to you...
Canaan Melter of Faces absolutely
QUEENSRYCHE - *TAKE HOLD OF THE FLAME!*
My favorite from Warning is Roads to Madness. Probably my favorite QR song of all time.
30 years later and this song still gives me shivers. The whole album, being a "concept album" is in my top 10 metal albums of all time. WoO!
This album is like a movie - this is *seriously* an album that warrants a straight-thru listen, with lyrics in hand, preferebly with headphones, at least once.
Pure genius
It's almost uncanny how on point it still is, considering what's going on today.
they actually mock tv preachers.
It's a thinking man's album for sure. It always stirred me but when I was younger I could only put my own frame of reference to it and had to try to expand on it without any real way to do so. I hear these songs now and it's a whole different ball game.
Faith No More.
Gentle Art A Small Victory
Guys, it’s definitely 80’s LOL
but that’s no issue.
Take Hold of the Flame from Queensryche!
Seconded THis is a baddass song!
Alice in Chains: Love, Hate, Love; Sunshine; Man in the Box; Junkhead. So many great songs.
I also saw a recommendation on here for Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King too. . . I am definitely on board with that. Maybe Gutter Ballet as well.
I second this! But also Chance, since I think they'd enjoy the transitions and the nice bit towards the end.
Savatage is crazy! Chance, Gutter and Hall are all great choices
The title track from this album (Operation Mindcrime) would definitely be worth a reaction.
Goodfella Absolutely! 👍
Operation Mindcrime is DA SHIT
There are a lot of good songs on this album. It's a concept album so they go together and tell a story. I particularly like "The Mission"
The lyrics to Operation Mindcrime are brutally honest. Sweet fuckin solo too
Matthew Riddle The Mission is another great track. Have you seen the live performance from ‘91? When they were at their pinnacle
Listen to Queensyche - Take hold of the flame off The Warning Album
Justiceguitar That album is my fave. Very close tie however with The Warning, Rage for Order and Operation Mindcrime
Absolutely. Take Hold is awesome
Or Roads to Madness
Take Hold of the Flame Live in Tokyo from 1984 has to be one of the greatest vocal performances of all time...Tate's voice is chill inducing
Judas Priest - The Sentinel!!! Please do it and the world will become a better place 😎
The whole album is PHENOMENAL!
That album is a masterpiece.
This album is my number 1 album of ALL TIME! Heavy Metal perfection this one. Its a concept album fellas, story from start to finish. Its an incredible album. Thanks for doing this 👍👍
Jimmy VanZeno perfect!!!!!!!!
Jimmy VanZeno Same here.
Next Queensryche? I don't believe in love.
Loved the reaction, keep it up!
And come on guys, when will you react to Iced Earth?
Worth noting: Operation Mindcrime is a concept album that tells a coherent story from start to finish, and this is the final track.
Glad you guys did this group.. fun fact- tthis album was a " rock opera" this was the concept for this album.. I saw this concert and they had a screen, ( video) in the background so you could follow the story. It was a story of a durg addict... Yes it was done in the late 80's.
Queensryche- jet city woman
Razorbackfan2794 My favorite by them.
👍👍👍👍
Savatage please. There are so many beautiful songs..(RIP Criss Oliva)
My favourite: Savatage - Hounds
KucukLebowski Amazing song
I would say, "Staring At The Sun".
Take Hold of the Flame live in Tokyo!
you have to listen to the whole album. it's a concept album. a whole spy, love story.
Salute.
Blind Guardian - Mirror mirror
Avantasia - Reach out for the light
Theocracy - Hide in the fairy tale
Kamelot - The Haunting
Mmmmmmm..... or how about Kamelot - March of Mephisto. Both of those songs have amazing vocal performances!
I’m just trying to get one of my requests noticed.
Operation mindcrime is a concept album, have to start from the beginning. Every song leads to the next, one big story
James Hines... Rock opera
Dave Marshall it's about the new world order period!
Dave Marshall mancerian canidate project monarch
Scott Rockenfield is an amazing drummer.
Extremely underrated.
Now do yourselves a favor and please listen to the entire album. Operation Mindcrime is debatably the greatest concept album ever written. Great music. Great story
I grew up on this band and thier album "Empire" is still in my top 10 albums of all time
Pantera- Domination Live in Moscow 91' (Video)
His voice is that way at first as the song is part of an entire story. Not just a song. He sings as a character with certain feelings behind each song. Gotta hear whole album.
You guys HAVE to review the whole album. It is still regarded as one of the best hard rock/metal albums of all time, it's a masterpiece of storytelling and musicianship and still relevant today. Do it in two parts - Pt 1: I Remember Now - Suite Sister Mary and then Pt 2: The Needle Lies - Eyes of a Stranger. You and the viewers will not be disappointed.
rbrebrook ,.i agree you don't understand unless you listen to the whole album. These gentlemen don't have a clue...
Speak the word.
Awesome! This was one of my favorites as a teen. The whole album "Operation Mindcrime" is great. Its a concept album so its really meant to be listened all the way through like a movie. You just listened to the final scene lol.
Please do Porcupine Tree - Blackest Eyes
Queensryche Revolution calling
MrTony22777 definitely
2nd best song on the album. Breaking the silence is better tho
They did the entire Mindcrime album live on the Empire tour in 1991...insane....They also opened for Metallica on the And Justice tour in 89, after Mindcrime and before Empire. I was there. I'm old.
I guess i am old as well. I saw both of those shows in Portland, ME
They also opened for Def Leppard when I saw them on their Hysteria tour in '88. That was amazing.
@@mjy oh Yeah, I saw the same tour in Charlotte Charlotte NC
Me too
I saw them in Chicago.
Rob Jarrett I guess it just boils down to the fact that I'm not at all an Altar Bridge fan but to each their own.
*Alter. And "infinitely" better? No way. And I say that as a guy who saw Queensryche in concert three times in their heyday.
Jesus Haro Yeah, as did I. And the actual statement was"In my opinion..." Enjoy your ALTER Bridge. I don't. Move on.
Joseph Polito lol. You gave your opinion. I gave mine. That's how this all sorta works. And personally, I could care less if you like AB. I simply responded to your opinion. NOW, I'll move on.
Queensryche - Take Hold Of The Flame. Amazing powerful vocals
If possible, react to this song youtube video - Live in Tokyo 1984/08/05
Queensryche - Walk in the Shadows. Very Groovy.
Agree!
Ricardo Salles Silveira That along with Maiden Hammersmith '82 is my favourite live vocal performance. Shame about where he is now though.
Ricardo Salles Silveira yes.. They have to check this one out!! Its gonna blow their mind!
This needs to be a whole album reaction
"I don't believe in Love" my favorite from Queensryche
I will agree with a majority of those who have posted comments here:
If you ever have occasion to do a REACTION to one entire album?
(Sadly he's lost most of that range these days.)
Trust me: give the whole album a thorough listen and a REACTION. You will not regret it.
i wish i could give 1000 thumbs up to this!!!
Take Hold of the Flame is one of Geoff Tates best vocal performances. Check it out.
Also check out Leprous and Caligulas Horse!
Zach Ansley Or Haken. I bet they'd like Falling Back to Earth
Zach Ansley hell yeah it is💯
Yes, Leprous!!
Zach Ansley I agree. that whole album is so much better
Helloween - Invitation/Eagle Fly Free
Queensryche - Walk in the Shadows
Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King or Strange Wings
King Diamond - Sleepless Nights
Mercyful Fate - A Dangerous Meeting
Walk in the shadows yes!!!
Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King or Strange Wings
Queensryche - Walk In The Shadows are total hits
In Helloween's favor I would opine with " I Want Out"
Rocker095150 If you listen to Sleepless Nights, you have to hear the entire double concept - Them and Conspiracy. While I agree that O:M is one of the best concept albums ever, O:M2 did not live up to its promise. No such problem with Them and Conspiracy. Also, Abigail (the album before Them) is a great concept album, as well (different story, though).
Der Viscount Von Ouro Preto as good a song as it is, I Want Out doesn't capture the full Power Metal essance that Helloween embodies
Lance L oh I've heard every classic KD album up to The Spiders Lullaby multiple times.
This is a masterpiece album. Review the entire album.
Great reaction! More Queensryche...
Queensryche - Silent Lucidity
Queensryche - Jet City Woman
Queensryche - I Don't Believe in Love
Jason Armand yes yes and yes 👍
