Warren DeMartini is a very underrated guitarist. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves as a true badass. Stephen Pearcy is a great vocalist too. He has a unique voice when you hear it, you know exactly who it is. You mentioned "Lay It Down" which is a gritty, nasty song, but so many others on the Out of the Cellar album are so awesome. Lack of Communication, Back For More, and my personal favorite, Wanted Man are definitely worth a listen also.
Where is the second obligatory upload? love you guys!
Nobody realizes that Warren DeMartini was 19 years old when he was recording this album. A true guitar virtuoso.
I have a Warren DiMartini guitar pick from a show at the Hard Rock in Dallas.
That's because nobody knows who the hell Warren DeMartini even is in the first place!
One of my favorite guitarist
@@Britton_Thompson Just because you don't know who he is, doesn't mean nobody knows him. He's actually quite well known. He's really well known in the guitar playing world. Ratt as a band isn't one of my favorites, but I do like Warren's guitar playing.
@@Britton_Thompson Anyone who played guitar and was alive in the 80's knows who Warren DeMartini is.
Ratt was this shit back in the day, the Entire “Out Of The Cellar” record is a must hear
"Invasion Of Your Privacy" is my pick.
Damn straight!!
Fact🤘🏽😎🤘🏽
Yes it was, and 'Round and Round' was arguably the weakest song on it.
Thw whole album was ridiculous!! RATT killed it from the beginning. One of the best EVER!
That guitar solo is one of the best i have ever heard in any rock song.
It was 🔥
"Hair Metal" gets a bad rap for the image but it was a golden age for guitar. RIP EVH.
Agreed. Not my favorite genre, but so many incredibly talented musicians get overlooked and under appreciated these days because hair metal is one of the only "retro" genres that is looked back upon as silly instead of cool, for most people. I would say Nu Metal has a similar situation, some really great musicians in some bands that just don't get any respect because the mainstream thinks the genre is not worthy of being looked at with rose colored glasses.
TRUE THAT, brother! George Lynch, Jake E. Lee, Vito Bratta, Akira Takasaki (Loudness) Reb Beach....to name a few. Warren absolutely sizzles with genius riffs and tasty solos-a highly melodic player who exudes class with his fretwork! EVH was oxygen for me-he is the most "musical" of all guitarists, his melodic sense won't be equaled-he and Jimmy Page. stay safe and great post!
Totally agree. Even the non metal acts had good guitar players in that era.
Amen to that.
What these guys did with guitars was inhuman!
It's disrespectful. Hair is what dummies see.
This is my favorite reason for following and supporting you guys. I've heard this song thousands of times and watching you guys hear it for the first time is priceless. Cheers guys, great video.
Yeah. No kidding. It makes me think about it in a different way than I ever thought about it before.
Their reactions are always great
Absolutely. Watching them listen to Tool for the first time, I felt like I was listening to it for the first time again too.
Same. The way they dissect songs and enjoy them is just great to watch
So true! Love hearing all these songs that are from my era. It's like you're watching Mtv with a couple friends, and you've seen the videos. I always got a kick out of those moments, and this channel has embodied that feeling.
RIP Robbin “King” Crosby... the genius behind the songwriting. Him and Warren complimented each other in a very good way.
Absolutely

80’s guitarists were always searching for “The” tone and it wasn’t pushing a couple of buttons on an effects unit either. Many guitarists of that era spent many hours developing and perfecting their sound.
Before Eddie nobody sounded like this band. It's really quite astonishing how much Eddie changed how people approach the guitar. The guitarist in this band was definitely an huge Ed fan.
Robbin and Warren were an epic pair. Warren was the master shredder (and a big influence on the next generation of guitarists), and Robbin brought the grounded, thicker, melodic counter to Warren’s sharp fluttery bite. RIP Robbin.
Robbin is so underrated. He brought alot of the groove but he could also shred.
Ratt changed my life. It was 1984, I was 10, I saw the video for Round and Round, and I went from listening to Kenny Rogers and Ronnie Milsap to Ratt and Twisted Sister and Quiet Riot overnight. lol
R.I.P. Robbin Crosby
I was 12 at the time of the release of Out of the Cellar. It change me from Hall and Oates and Huey Lewis to Ratt and 80s metal. (I still like that older stuff, but certainly things shifted)
@@jrgilbert Certainly did for me as well. I never stopped listening to Hall & Oates, but I definitely gave that HL&TN Sports album a much needed break after discovering Ratt. 😂
Yeah but did you "win" a rat wall mirror throwing darts at balloons at the county fair?
@@brovold72 No, but I did win a Prince mirror. 😂
For me kinda the same. 1983 night tracks on Tbs opened my eyes to metal with Def Leppard, KISS. Ratt. Van Halen, etc, before I had to listen to what my parents were into. Like Kenny, Conway, Alabama, Rabbit, Milsap Etc. I still like those country classics though. I wish these reaction crews would do some of those. Not just rock.
Post script edit. MTV wasn’t allowed in many rural Oklahoma and Texas counties
You know what’s funny, I was a r&b guy way back in the early 80’s. My girlfriend’s brother was in his room listening to Round & Round while I was waiting for her and I’ve been a rocker ever since. Thanks Rubin
Oh man... you need to hear this then:

hell ya...that solo hit and you were like wtfffff is that lololol
@@cmansfield3 Ha! That is amazing!
thats awesome
I saw Bon Jovi actually open for Ratt in the mid 80s (before "Slippery When Wet"). "Alright, all you Ratt-n-Rollers!" Such a good show.
Saw them on that same tour with Bon Jovi in Fresno! My very first concert! Stephen Pearcy drank a Budweiser threw it in the crowd, I got the can, then moments later got a drumstick. Talk about luck! Rock on
I saw that same tour in Atlanta. IMHO they were far better than Motley Crue. Better songs & musicians. The excess of it all and King Crosby's drug problems took the band down. The last album Infestation wasn't too bad.
I saw both their first shows. But i did see the same show.
I saw that tour too!
@@shooterjam im trying to remember who the 3rd act was tho.
absolutely one of the greatest bands of the 80’s, exceptional musicianship
Huge chemistry going on with Ratt and it's talented players, songs leap from speakers with edge, swagger, groove, and huge harmony.....very TIGHT band and music will hold up! great post!
All of the guitarists in the 80's could play their ass off, some were just better than others. I'm requesting Whitesnake - Still of the Night and a hidden gem pick, Blue Murder.
Absolutely still of the night
John Sykes is a monster, good call
@@chefofchitown Sykes is a monster on the 6 string for suren and was such underrated power vocalist too :)_
Yes to *Blue Murder* especially their song _Valley of The Kings_ :)
Yesss I think I forgot to mention Blue Murder in the requests thread. SO good
Did remember Still of the Night though. And if they want to revisit the original vs cover idea from a while ago, Halestorm does a mean cover
Warren Dimartini is one of the best guitarist of the 80's and still one of the best.
The guy has such a unique style. Can usually pick him out in 3 notes. Lol.
He's in my top 3
He was roommates with George Lynch. Both are Amazing guitar players
Ratt is underrated. The first few albums were well received. They were inspired by Van Halen and as did so many other bands in the 80s couldn't wait to go see them in the clubs when they were younger.
They are not underrated lmao
I don’t underrated them I’ve always had Out the Cellar in my collection and listening too it regularly still. Incredible Album.
Agreed@@cherobinson6371
When this first came out, I listened to the album for DAYS. They were on FIRE!
Ratt - "Wanted Man" is another good one.
Back for More
Rob Rabionet and they mentioned the crue who are in the video for it.
Love Wanted Man. Just a tale of the old American West in hard rock style.
Wanted Man should be Ratts intro song as they step into the ring.
“You’re in Love” is a staple Ratt song as well.
A guilty pleasure of mine. To. This. Day.
I don't understand why people label music as guilty pleasures. Either you like it or don't
There's just something undeniable about Ratt's best songs. I'm glad and not surprised they got it immediately.
What are their best? I love this song and would like some recs from them
I remember cruising back in the days jammin this loud... good times.
RIP Robin Crosby. I really like this interview with him where he was reflecting on his life and he said, "I've done everything I ever dreamed of and more...Don't feel sorry for me I've lived the life of 10 men." Not many people can say that.
*Robbin
I see Geico isn't the only one with a RATT problem.
Jack X 🤣😂🤣😂😜world !
Too funny!!!
Well played.
Well said. I tip my hat to you sir
LOVE that commercial!
I still tease my son about his high school girlfriend leaving him to follow Ratt. 😂😂😂
This is the most 80’s shit I’ve heard in a while 😂
Was her named Denise?
My blunder I was thinking of my Aunt in Anaheim
Lol
Lol parenting done right 💯
Yo I'd leave anyone to follow Ratt in the 80s.
RATT is soooo underrated! Their Greatest Hits is incredible!!
You also need to do "You're In Love". Warren DeMartini was a very underrated guitarist. Robbin Crosby died of a drug overdose and pneumonia complications from aids in the early 2000s.
Great riff on that song!
Lay It Down as well.
Oh man... I didn't know about Crosby. That's so sad.
R.I.P. King
Ratt always had a nice "Crunchy" sound with their guitars.
I saw them live on this tour. Warren and Robbin did a great dual solo. Awesome tone
RATT is an acronym for Rockin All The Time. So it is all CAPS!
For all the joking about the chorus, they're gonna be hearing "Round aaaand round!" over and over in their heads for the rest of their lives. Keep Rock Alive!! 🤘🏽🖤🔥🙌🏼 ℁
lol Hell yeah! RATT & ROLL!
@@stephenkeelinjr6252 yeh GEICO
oops ! this song have now a completely different meaning
I never thought you guys would dig Ratt this much.
They saw the geico commercial
They have a couple good songs thats it. They would figure that out.
Out of the Cellar is a fantastic album.
this tune is one of the best rock songs of all time. the most amazing thing is how they never got close to the quality of this song again
I almost fell over. Ratt was my 2nd concert ever. So underrated for their best I mean
Invasion of your privacy was one of my favorite albums.
Ratt goes in a different direction in Way Cool Junior. Probably my fav.
Ratt and Dokken have my favorite riffs of the era. I think you guys should start with It's Not Love for Dokken. It's got the chorus hook you're looking for and a great main riff
Oh man George Lynch I love his playing!!!! Turn on the Action, and Bullets to Spare!!!!
One of the first songs I tried to learn on guitar. (Chords only obviously lol)
I agree Dokken and Ratt are two of my favorites from this era. I’d like to see Breaking the Chains.
Dokken is one of the best 🙌
Dokken is my favorite from that era , and george is my guitar idol n reason I picked up guitar! They should do either it's not love or the hunter
If you like Ratt's sound, they've honestly got a ton of catchy, fun songs. Back For More, Wanted Man, Dance, You're In Love.
I'll never forget the 1st time I'd heard this album. Listened to the entire thing and loved every second. Was so excited, it was like finding gold.
Oh! You're In Love! I forgot about that one!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You're in love was the first song I heard by Ratt. It's stuck with me since, so has the band. And that was back in 87 or 88.
And "Lack of Communication"
Slip of the Lip 🎸
Nice theory and all, but there's one teensy little problem with it....
'Round and Round' came out before 'Panama'
Yeah...but Van Halen was playing long before Ratt and most of the "hair metal" bands. VH was already popular when these guys were coming up.
Rate was firmed 4 years after Van Halen. It doesn't mattee which song was first!
*Ratt was formed.....
Damned autocorrect!
The single for "Round and Round" came out before single for "Panama"
, but the the album "1984" came out before "Out of the Cellar", so "Panama" technically came first.
Nope. Panama was released January 84, round and round in April the same year.
I am from India,Never heard of Ratt before but enjoyed it,Thank you.
This is one of the catchiest songs ever written.
A person doesn't even need to like rock, let alone metal - to get into this one.
Yea a black coworker of mine heard the song on a commercial and asked me about it. He mostly listens to hip hop but he said he loves the song
Modern day cowboy by Tesla guys trust me
You sir, are correct!
Absolutely! Or "no way out (heavens trail) or "hang tough"
I mean "heavens trail (no way out)"

Beautiful and wonderful time when I was a teen in the 80s listening to this album.
My best friend had STARDOG as a personalized tag after hearing Mother Love Bone....and yeah being a teenager at this time was great...spurred such a love of guitar from this era
Johnny Lawrence's go to band... Fear Does Not Exist In This Dojo!
Yes man. Miguel’s ringtone
Lack of Communication off of Out of the Cellar is a straight up banger, nothing fancy, just a hard rockin' tune.
This right here! One of my faves.
One of my favs from that album as well!
Yes it is!!!
Very cool song. Juan is the man.
My fav off the LP
I heard this song once before. Didn’t pay much attention but now with your reaction video did, amazing song, those guitar solos went crazy
KILLER episode, guys! Loved the energy and enthusiasm. Thank you, for introducing this era and genre of Rock/Hair Metal to those that are either too young to know or simply weren't into that scene at the time.
If people don't like this song, they either liars or deaf 😂
Even rats like this song!
The video to Round and Round is a classic. It features legendary actor Milton Berle playing the husband and wife roles.
His nephew was ratts mgr.
Yes 👍
Milton...so funny in that video :D
Actually from what I understand Stephen Pearcy was Milton Berle's nephew, that's how he convinced him to be in the video. Although I could be wrong.
"Lost art of starting a song"

I truly love you guys helped me out in 2021 when I had COVID which lasted for almost 6 months of not feeling good at all. I watched your videos every dam day .
The opening riff to "Lay It Down" used to literally give me chills... watching you guys react to it did it all over. When those drums kick in tho! LOL! Love you guys!
Cinderella was a great “hair metal” band.Try “ Somebody Save Me”, Shake Me”, “Don’t Know What You Got Til It’s Gone”, “Coming Home”, and “Nobody’s Fool”.
Shake Me for sure. A straight ahead rocker!
Yes, awesome 80's band. During that time in L.A. These were the bands playing the circuit. GnR, Ratt, Poison, Van Halen, Crue, Cinderella. They all knew each other and a lot of them partied with each other. Slash actually was hired by Poison but refused to do the "Glam Metal" look. In fact right before the audition he walked into a second hand store across the street, saw the stovepipe hat and well.....the rest is history.
I think Cinderella was a little more than that. Like Tesla, there was a LOT of blues and soul in their sound.
Fire and ice was a seriously underrated song by them too
I love Don't Know What You Got Til It's Gone, awesome song.
I'm very impressed at how quickly you guys noticed their guitar tone because that tone is precisely what sets ratt apart from the multitude of cheezy 80s rock bands. I grew up listening to 80s metal, but I cant really listen to much of it anymore, because very few of those bands have stood the test of time & Ratt is definitely one of the few that have. They are one of the few bands with a tone so original that you can listen to one note & know exactly who it is. Well spotted guys 👍
That album you had posted in the back ground , That entire Album is badd asss
RIP Robin Crosby
George has a good ear in regards to the tuning. Both Ratt and Van Halen have their guitars tuned down a half-step. It gives a solid blues feel, allows you to play different keys that aren’t easy to achieve in standard tuning, and the strings have less tension which makes bending easier.
Fun fact: Coheed and Cambria’s best album IMO (Good Apollo I) is entirely in this tuning, and you guys gotta react to Welcome Home. Absolutely epic🤘🏻
Warren Demartini most underrated guitarist of that time. Straight fire!!
Prince was very underrated too. He was on EVH levels.
"...like disciples of Van Halen."
LOL Yup, you just described about 80% of the 1980s metal scene, of which Warren Demartini (Ratt lead guitarest) is one of the *best* examples.
I've always thought that some of the most known bands had their own thing going on. Crue and Wasp had heavy metal, Bon Jovi had more pop, Cinderella had blues, Extreme had funk etc.
@@Rosario_Verano I can agree with every one of your band characterizations, but it doesn't diminish in the slightest the long and deep influence of VH over all of them. Nuno Bettencourt (of Extreme) has an extraordinary amount of EVH in him. So does Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi). Mick Mars (Motley Crue) dreamed of having some. Leff Labar (Cinderalla) too. They all did. Almost to the man (+ women, like Lita Ford).
@craig 22 Eddie just took it to a whole new level than Vittorio did. But I feel most musicians have someone that they learn from & are influenced by. Even the great Eddie Van Halen
@craig 22 By this logic, almost no one is original. Not the Beatles, not Hendrix, Zeppelin, nobody. I can dig it.
Holy shit. Im just now realizing how close this is to Panama. Even in the vocal harmonies in "Panama" and "Round And Round"!
Not sure, but I think Panama and Round and Round were released at about the same time? Maybe Round and Round was out first? That said, Van Halen obviously had been around for several years and had a huge influence on all the 80's rock bands.
Same here. Heard both songs hundreds and hundreds of times, but never made that connection.
i looked it up, both songs/albums were released in 1984. Van Halen's 1984 came out in January of that year while Out of the Cellar came out in March, but i think Round and Round was released as a single prior to the album release.
the bridge (pre chorus) lines remind me of the chorus to the (later song) Battle Stations by Winger
I just want to make sure that ALL Ratt fans pick up the Infestation album with Carlos Cavazo (Quiet Riot) joining the band-the album is Ratt's heaviest and blew us Ratt fans AWAY! So rockin' and tight, with Carlos being a perfect addition to the band-although no one could actually replace Robbin Crosby, and his rhythm guitar magic! (RIP Robbin). Infestation came out in 2010 and I believe a lot of fans missed it-GET IT AND LIVE A BETTER LIFE!
Excellent album!
Man, watching you guys react to hearing these old songs for the first time makes me feel the way I did when I heard them years ago. I LOVE this channel!
Everybody was clowning on Ratt for the longest time, but the truth is they rock.
RATT and Marvin Gaye - “I Heard it Round and Round the Grapevine”
, by Bill Maclintock. Great Mashup xD
This.
YES! !!! Bill is the undisputed MASTER of the Mashup....I've heard that one, and it's actually really cool. I don't know what editing software he's using, but he has that shit down to a science!
I'm a subscriber to his channel and I enjoy what he does!
I thought "heaviest matter in the universe" and your love affair with Gojira was the peak of this channel. Gotta say the looks our boy Warren got after he dropped the solo were right up there. That's how it goes with some of the "glam rock" bands...usually safe vocals, boring drums, root-note bass, and then...BAM!..guitar players carpet-bombing the whole scene. You guys are awesome thanks for everything.
Well said, but there were a lot of great riffs, from the cream of these bands!
Warren DeMartini remains one of the most underrated guitarists of the 80s. He and Robin Crosby (RIP) were an epic guitar duo. "Lay it Down" is still one of my favorite songs from the era. Damn, those days were fun.
Warren is a guitar god not underrated at all
CHeck out the RATT EP. Sweet Cheater - You Think Your Tough - Tell The World - Back For More . Raw AF and most RATT fans know what I am talkin' bout.
Warren De Martini is probably one of the best from this era on guitar. Blue's player's and shredders alike love him. He has great groove.
RATT was easily my favorite band back in those days and I love seeing you guys digging them so hard! The Out of the Cellar album is kick ass, I've worn out 3 copies through the years. Warren DeMartini is a guitar playing beast as well, always loved his style and tone.
I have been watching this channel since..2017 or 2018..before you guys hit 80k subs. Its crazy to see how far you have come but also how much more comfortable you guys are on camera and interacting.
Ratt was one of the most underrated hair bands of the 80's. They were more on the darker/sleazier side of the genre which didn't get as much mainstream airplay.
So sleazy! 😭 WASP too. But Ratt was really fun, they had that street vibe. I love how George felt them out and checked a couple more songs.. and they lit them on fire 😂
@@midnite8729 WASP were insane..don't get the respect they deserve
Maybe it was because Warren DeMartini (Torch) was from San Diego, but KGB played Ratt heavily in the rotation. Never considered Ratt , underrated.
Never heard of Ratt before now.. so, thanks guys! I love Ratt! And am finding with your marathon that I'm getting more turned onto 80's stuff and dropping a previous prejudice i had for glam/80's/whatever. Awesome vid as always, guys! Love and peace out \m/
Ratt was freaking changing the game and was absolutely fantastic.
The woman in the cover album is Tawny Kitaen she just passed away.
Ratt is awesome. Warren DiMartini is way underrated. Juan Croucier lent so much with his backing vocals. Robin Crosby can kill at rhythm or lead. One of my favorite bands of the 80s.
The model on the cover of Out Of The Cellar is Tawny Kitaen, the same girl who appeard in Whitesnake's Here I Go Again video in 1987. She is also the "legs" on the cover of Ratt's debut EP from 1983.
For whatever that bit of trivia is worth to you, lol.
Oh, and the model on the cover of Invasion Of Your Privacy (1985) is Marianne Gravatte, who was Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month for the October 1982 issue (38 years ago!!!??), then as the 1983 Playmate of the Year. She also appeard in the Lay It Down video.
1. Round and round came out before Panama.
2. Lack of Communication is Ratt's best song
Not sure about #1. 1984 was released before Out of the Cellar.
1984 was released a few months earlier, but even if it was the other way, right from van halen 1 those muted arpeggios are very van halen.

Hey my men, I have grown up n all the songs you feature, and you enhance my appreciation of them all thank you so much.
Way Cool Jr is awesome as well. You really can't go wrong. RATT just has that style and are so consistent with those nasty riffs. I saw them live with Dokken it was my first concert and it was mind blowing!
Ok guys here is one from Ratt. It has a blues kind of sound to it "Way Cool JR." You will love it.
I second that.
Way Cool Jr. is Warren’s best riff ever.

So glad you did this one. I go back to this song all the time. Ratt are the masters of catchy licks and infections songs
Wow! I've been begging for Ratt and gave up. You played the 1 "hit" from an album full of killer melodic metal tunes, but that's cool. Out of the Cellar and Invasion of Your Privacy are filled with awesome rock. MORE RATT! MORE RATT! 4 straight albums of grooving metal.
Me too! I've been DYING for them to react to RATT. They didn't disappoint, and got Lay it Down and What U give is what U get. Who would've thunk.
This whole album is bangin guys
DiMartini was a young virtuoso, Ratt came on the scene swinging fot sure
Dimartini had some stylistic similarities with George Lynch (also one of my favorites), but definitely carved out his own niche. Very melodic player who used his shred abilities judiciously. Also a master of weaving major and minor patterns over chord progressions that made those kind of shifts. Lay it Down is a great example. Very memorable solo with simple yet catchy lines and reserved use of high speed phrasing.
I have to say, I absolutely LOVE watching you guys doing the rock... But seeing your Godsmack Drum battle.
Was the best EVER. I lost count on how many times I've watched that.... 💜🎶

This song was released a few months earlier than Panama in 1984. I don't think anyone was copying.
I hear Ain't Talking About Love though 100%
Man. You guys bring me joy!🙂
Great White "house of broken love" bluesy guitars great vocals ...great song and very underrated band.
Omg yes! They totally need to do that song at some point!
Ratt has always had the respect of musicians. Great songs and great talent that still holds up today.
What you’re responding to when you say the chorus seems flat is that the pre-chorus is so amazing that there’s no where to go but down In energy afterward. “I knew right from the beginning ...” the pre-chorus has more hooks than an angler’s tackle box.
I always found the chorus perfect
I always thought Stephen Pearcy sounded exactly like the type of guy who’d be in a band named “Ratt”. Like Vince Neil with a really bad sore throat or something.
😂
I’ve always thought this was one of the coolest choruses. His vocal tone and style just fits it so well. It’s catchy but not in a bad way at all.
Yup I like it a lot too. Not flat at all
Whitesnake - "Slow an' Easy"; or if you do another Ratt tune, definitely either "You're in Love" or "Wanted Man"
seconding the "you're in love". Lyrics are terrible but main riff is so damn catchy
Ahhh, There's nothing like David Coverdale's golden pipes!
You've Got Another Thing Comin'
Love to see that.
One of the best bands of that era. Awesome guitar work and just tight sound. Underated Ratt!
That guitar sound that you like is muted picking. The palm of the pick hand partially mutes the strings. Eddie Van Halen certainly uses this technique a lot.
Steven Pearcy, the Ratt lead singer, has said they looked up to Van Halen.
Yep. Unlike lay it down which is drop d tuning, this song is in e standard tuning
David Ernst I thought this is half step down
@@charleskopievsky1245 maybe it is, I cant remember off the top of my head. I thought it was e standard not e flat but u may be right
@@charleskopievsky1245 you're right, I just grabbed my guitar it's in e flat
