Yes sir, these cats are the real deal. This album and their 2nd "The Dark" are very special. There's no filler tracks on either. (except maybe Highway Star could be considered "filler" because it's a cover, BUT only because its not an original). Peace
The reason a lot of bands in the 80's had that shrill evil vocal style was to take the dark demonic fantasy element to another level. They wanted to sound like Satanic sorcerers, angry spectres, demons,or the Devil himself. Although most of it is an acquired taste, there are a few bands that found a nice middle ground between the high pitched notes and melodic singing.
At that time, this album was as important to us as Master Of Puppets. My first tattoo is pretty much inspired by the cover pic of this one. Metal Church was a huge impact and influence. Quite funny you arrived here that late. 😅 and btw the drumming on this record was also a huge influence on my own playing.
Saw this band at Ruthie's in Berkeley. It was their return to the Bay Area. Everyone was there, Metallica, Exodus, Trauma, Hexx, etc. Great show and good dudes. These guys had everyone's respect.
Dude, you're so right, George! I consider myself above average as far as how many metal songs anyone has listened to. From Black Sabbath to Megadeth, from Cannibal Corpse to Necrophagist and anything in between, I'm 43 and I've listened to thousands of metal songs but I've never really listened to a whole song from Metal Church. I know their name, I've seen their pictures and photos back in the day but this is my first time listening to them. You dudes got me listening to them now! Your channel is FIRE!!! 🔥🔥🔥

I remember vividly when I heard this album for the very first time in 1984 (I was 14 back then) and I as well was blown away by the sheer musicality, the impressive song-structures and its massive production. It warms my heart that this type of music is somewhat still relevant judging by your reactions. You guys get it! Thank you for yet another great video!
Ever since Black Sabbath's first album "Black Sabbath" kicked off the genre which would come to be known as heavy metal with the first song on that album "Black Sabbath" many metal bands have done the same. Iron Maiden's first album was self-titled and they still play "Iron Maiden" in their live show to this day. This album is fire through and through, glad you guys gave this a listen. Cheers guys!
Metal Church was the litmus test for determining true metal fans back in the late 80s/90s. Plenty of people wearing Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden t-shirts. But someone busts out a Metal Church CD and you know they're into serious metal. This album, and The Dark, are S Tier metal. Really overlooked band, and was WAITING for you guys to catch this, cause I knew you'd like the swing tempo, that triplet beat that dominates jazz, R&B, and other dance music. Makes you really get tangled in.
This is why I subscribe and love your reactions. Exactly how I felt about this song and band when I heard the first time. Every metalheads knows of metal church, first 2 albums are classics.

Saw them together in 92
I've been waiting forever for you guys to do Metal Church! Yesss!!! 🤘
Rest in Peace David Wayne.
His vocals fit Metal Church to perfection.
One of the best metal songs of all time. The production and sonic quality are off the chart. Whoever produced and mixed this, those are the best sounding drums I've ever heard as well as the guitar tone sounding as well as their playing ability. Just a great song.
This song is a masterpiece. The drumming is absolutely perfect. I'm baffled but glad y'all reviewed it!
George and Ryan, LIV, easily one of my favorites to subscribe to. Meat Loaf or Meatball, holy shit y'all've got me laughing my ass off!!
Editing to add that I've freeloaded long enough with hours and hours of the free content. You'll have a new Patreon supporter in a few minutes.
Thanks guys from a Texas headbanger.
You also need to check out their album The Dark.
David Wayne could sing his ass off!
Reverend
@@reverendriff5597 - Reverend was such a SUPER underrated band. I LOVE their debut Ep.
One of my favorite tunes that you guys have introduced me to over the years. Shout out to everyone who requested this song.
Bingo Larsen This whole album is the shit!
This entire album and the one that followed are absolutely mind blowingly good
Yes, this album and The Dark are what Metal Church is to me
Yes sir, these cats are the real deal. This album and their 2nd "The Dark" are very special. There's no filler tracks on either. (except maybe Highway Star could be considered "filler" because it's a cover, BUT only because its not an original).
Peace
Here! I have typed 'Metal Church' into the comments for a few years now, Love to all my Heavy Metal brethren!
I never thought I'd see a Metal Church review/reaction, much less that you guys would like it so much. 😊
Metal Church - Badlands is a great song. Anything off the Blessing in Disguise album is worth a listen.
Badlands is incredible
+1 for Badlands
+2
Badlands is definitely one of their best with second singer, Mike Howe.
I love Howe's vocals more than Wayne's. Blessing in Disguise is the album that grabbed me. Badlands is brilliant
Oh wow the Singer David Wayne was about 30 when this came out and had been a US Army Combat Medic prior to joining the Band.
For not being metalheads, you guys have a great ear for the cream of metal.
I love both of you for respecting the Metal.
I did not know about this group previously. I love this! Thanks for this reaction!
That song's fun as shit to play on the drums. Don't sleep on Metal Church.
I remember seeing Metal Church Armored Saint and a very young Metallica at Gazzari's on the sunset strip back in the 80s.
Metal Church is OG, so I’m glad you guys are getting around to them!
Saw this band at Ruthie's in Berkeley. It was their return to the Bay Area. Everyone was there, Metallica, Exodus, Trauma, Hexx, etc. Great show and good dudes. These guys had everyone's respect.
Gods Of Wrath is the song that got me all the way into this band! Saw em three times. Twice with David Wayne, one of the best live shows i ever saw.
Never clicked faster! Shocking choice.
Hope you do 'Gods of wrath.'
That is an awesome song
The best!!!
YES GODS OF WRATH!!!!!!!!
Yes! The drums will blow their minds.
The best one
Anthem to the estranged is a masterpiece, hope you'll listen it someday
One of my all time favorite songs of theirs.
Easily my favorite song of theirs! I met the band twice and told them they NEED to break it out into the setlist one day!
Metal Church has a bunch of great songs you could react to. Start the Fire, Gods of Wrath, Beyond the Black, Watch the Children Pray...
man start the fire is one of my go to metal of the day and beyond black is awesomeness
Agreed...first for me as well.
This is probably my favorite reaction of yours. So cool seeing you appreciate this under appreciated band. Favorite reaction but favorite quote is still from Holy Wars reaction “ this is like Black porno” 😂
Kirk Arrington is one of my favorite all time drummers. Complete beast.
I can't get through this song without air drumming and guitaring.
Savatage - hall of the mountain king
Yeah yeah yeah!
Prelude to Madness Which leads into Hall Of the Mountain King!!
Edge of Thorn
@@abdoalrahmanmohammed2610 I personally like the older Savatage. I do not like the growing influence of Paul O'Neill, despite Streets. I prefer Heavy Metal not musical😂 But Edge was the last record with Chriss Oliva and had strong moments. My Classic Albums are Hall..., Gutter... and Power...
Hells yeah, or Devastation or any song on that album.
Man this brings back memories of the days in the early 80s and 90s when you used to walk into the local Tower Records once or twice a month and scan the metal section from A to Z. I bought so many metal albums just by the cover art and discovered an entire world of metal, too many to name, but it became a ritual and I built my album collection from that practice, Good Times lost forever.
Oh man, so true! I got in to Metal Church cuz of Megadeth liner notes, but Stormtroopers of Death was totally cuz of looking at the cover art. Meliah Rage also. Whiplash. Artillery. Like you said, too many to name!
Preach
Their album The Dark is one of my favorite albums ever
This and Gods of Wrath are the biggest ones of this album, but the whole thing is a metal masterpiece. Thanks for doing it!! Kirk Arrington was a massive influence on me and I'm glad you gave him a shout out :)
I remember when this album came out. Holy Hell, it was a game changer. Gods of Wrath was a killer song and riff. This song kept me sane in boot camp in 1987 when I would drum on my footlocker the beat and have the guitar in my head.
Y’all definitely put me on. Never thought I’ll like this type of music.
Check out Crimson Glory - In Dark Places
Welcome to the dark side
I feel Savatage is coming nearer...
Or Crimson Glory
Yeah then they might as well also react to the Trans Siberian Orchestra next as well idk if they have yet
This is absolutely my favorite of all of your reaction videos. I come back to this every few months to rewatch it and your reaction and the appreciation of the music always hits!
I'm so glad to see an underrated gem finally getting more recognition
Life long metal head here. This is THE song that bridged my taste from Judas Priest etc, to Slayer and beyond! So happy to see you checking this out!
Heres your medium thrash!! 😂
Worship at the altar of metal! Thank you for boosting the signal for this amazing band
This was one of my favorite albums back in the day. Every track on it is killer.
Thanks for puttin me on to Metal Church! This is straight fire from beginning to end!
I just watched this again for the 20th time…my favorite reaction by them. I wonder if it’s still on their playlist?
Band: Metal Church
Album: Metal Church
Song: Metal Church
Metal 101.
You have arrived at your destination.
Yes!!! I requested this song about a year ago. I even said the drums would beat your ears to death. Glad you liked it!
Thanks man for being one of those. Never would have figured they'd get to hear these guys.
@@mvunit3 sure thing bro! I used to rock these guys in the navy. Good times!!
I love this album. Still have it. Crazy seeing it here. Glad you guys like it. Hitman is another great track.
Never heard of them before, listened to it for the first time with you guys, and I loved it!
Luv Metal Church, one of my fav metal bands of the 80's
"Ton of Bricks" from "Metal Church - The Dark."
The Dark!
Wait until you hear the other tracks! This whole album does not disappoint.
This whole album is awesome! One of my top favorites.
This is a VERY influential album for me. Gods of Wrath is amazing. The cover of Deep Purples Highway Star. Beyond the Black. Just an excellent album. David Wayne was a very underrated singer.
Try Metal Church “Ton of Bricks”!
Yep
The Kirk Arrington Blast §§§§§§§
First time i listen ton of bricks is on a charlie sheen film about stoling cars in the 80s....for me as a kid ton of bricks are "the metal" music...made a huge impact on me..
This whole album kills...Hitman is another great one on here.
Hitman knocks the head as early as 0:00 hahaha
ya these 2 guys would flip out on the rhythm guitar riffs on that tune for sure that's a real ripper of a tune
