Everything is great about this song, but you forgot to mention how badass the drums are, the drums are the most badass in this song.

Metal Church emerged from Seattle in the early 80's, and they were friends w/ Metallica in the early days... They had the talents of guitarist/ songwriter Kurdt Vanderhoof and the powerhouse vocals of David Wayne... plus Kirk Arrington (drums), Duke Erickson (bass) & Craig Wells (guitar)... this debut album in 1984 sold impressively and the band was signed (with Metallica) to Elektra Records in 1985... they released 'The Dark' album in 1986 and even got on MTV.
However, things began to fall apart... David Wayne was fired soon after... Kurt Vanderhoof left the line-up, but stayed as a songwriter & contributor... replaced by Metallica roadie John Marshall on guitar (who had substituted for James Hetfield a few times)... Vocalist Mike Howe joined the band and the 3rd album 'Blessing in disguise' (1989) was a modest success.
Vanderhoof hoped that the 4th album "The Human Factor" (1991) would break the big, but he saw Nirvana suddenly take off (Kurdt Vanderhoof knew Kurt Cobain of Nirvana; in fact, on the 'Bleach' album, Kurt spelled his name "Kurdt") ... Metal Church was dropped. They released 'Hanging in the balance' in 1993, but the band broke up around 1995.
Metal Church reunited in 1999 to record a new album w/ David Wayne on vocals, but the 'Masterpeace' album was released just as the band members went their separate ways again... Kurdt Vanderhoof put together a new Metal Church line-up in 2004 and released 'Weight of the world' w/ vocalist Ronnie Munroe... they release a few albums before Munroe quit in 2014.
Mike Howe rejoined Metal Church in 2015 and released the 'XI" album in 2016 and 'Damned if you do' album in 2018.
In 2021, Mike Howe reportedly took his own life...R.I.P. Kurdt Vanderhoof recently announced that Metal Church was prepping a new album w/ a new vocalist.
Original Metal Church vocalist David Wayne passed away in 2005 from injuries he had suffered in a car accident.

Hurm, do yourself a favor and checkout the video of Metal Church - "Gods of Wrath" live at Wacken 2005. Like the track you just reacted to, this track is also from the band's self-titled debut studio album. However this live performance includes one of the band's "replacement" singers, Ronny Munroe, who is truly a MONSTER on vocals. This is without a doubt once of the greatest live performances I've ever witnessed as a fan of metal for over 30 years. Oh and btw, no that's NOT Rick from Pawn Stars on guitar.

I know a guitar player who was in the band during the summer of 1982, when it was called Shrapnel, which was formed, named, and led by Vanderhoof, in approx. June 1982, from scratch. There were no prior lineups of Shrapnel, or Metal Church, at that time, at least out of Aberdeen. This guitar player was too early, and/or too brief to be included in any known lineups. This was before Shrapnel issued any kind of demo tapes with any kind of original music. During that very first summer, Shrapnel covered heavy metal like Def Leppard, Judas Priest, and even Rebel Rebel by David Bowie. That lineup was this guitar player on an Ibanez Artist and a Marshall 200 watt full stack (from Aberdeen), Tom Weber on drums (from Hoquiam), Mike Murphy vocals (from Montesano), Duke Erickson bass (from Hoquiam), Kurdt Vanderhoof on black Les Paul and 100 watt HiWatt full stack (from Aberdeen). All of it's practice, equipment, and rehearsal was located at "Sprague's Barn" on the highway heading out of Aberdeen. It's first four shows were: Sprague Barn open to public party, a house party in Central Park, a van life festival (outdoor venue) on farmland outside of Hoquiam, and a frat party at Pacific Lutheran University. This is the startup effort that became Metal Church, despite what is said about Metal Church, or Shrapnel coming out of San Francisco. Whatever Kurdt did in San Francisco, he is the only one who returned to Aberdeen. Thus, the summer 1982 version of Shrapnel represents a brand new effort, to start from scratch, something, anything that would eventually turn Kurdt into a full time professional. Vanderhoof's prior efforts begin as early as 1976, when he formed a band called Tyr, in Aberdeen, which included Kirk Arrington on drums. Sometime around 1978-79, Vanderhoof went to San Francisco, and came back Aberdeen, before 1980, with a vinyl single by "The Lewd" in hand, one of the songs being named "Trash Can Baby" , having contributed his guitar skills to the punk rock effort. Upon that return, Vanderhoof continued networking, and jammed with this guitar player that would eventually be called up to form the original lineup for Shrapnel in June 1982. But nothing came of it and probably Vanderhoof went back and forth from San Francisco again, because this other guitar player lost track of Vanderhoof till he got a phone call in June or July 1982. Whatever the names of these bands, these iterations were all Vanderhoof's efforts starting in 1976 with Tyr, with Arrington on drums (on a huge white Peal drum set), covering songs from the likes of Rush, Thin Lizzy, Molly Hatchet, and, drum roll please, Highway Star by Deep Purple.

This is one of those albums that probably will have a so so song but the rest of it's a must-have in your repertoire.
Just wanted to suggest, Hurm, do the whole album, I promise you this album will be a ride if you listen to it in one take. That's was the old fashion way to listen to an album back in the day to a fair judgement of an album critic
