R.I.P. David Wayne, the former vocalist of Metal Church, died on May 10th, 2005 at the age of 47 at his home in Tacoma, Washington, following complications from injuries sustained in a car accident. Metal Church were influenced by Deep Purple, they did a cover of Highway Star, last track on this same album.

@@chrismez4675 I knew about that when I was cool with the remains of Reverend, who were members of the San Antonio metal band, Byfist. They also revealed that the real reason why David Wayne left the band after "The Dark" album was because guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof was in the closet and tried to make a move on David.

Flotsam n Jetsam has this early Church "flavor" to it big-time. MC's self-titled release, and "The Dark" are two great Metal LPs are certainly worth listening to...

I bought this album on cassette tape in 1985. That was when you had to go to the physical music store and browse, and music got around more or less by word of mouth. I lost that tape several years ago but never forgot it. Just today I got this album back from iTunes for $9.99. So glad I can crank this up again in the car.. Great album! Great band! Heard the title track from this album on college radio back in '84 & went to Shattered Records & bought a copy of the album as soon as it came out. They played Peabody's DownUnder on the East Bank of the Flats during the tour for this album & the place was jam packed. I was right up front during their set & after a couple songs the band let me sit onstage with them. During one part of the song 'Metal Church' I air drummed what Kirk played on the album & he improvised & played something else & as he did it he looked at me & nodded his head & smiled as if to say, "Gotcha." :) After their set bassist Duke Erickson came over to me & said, "You were headbangin' all night" & he shook my hand & handed me the pick he used that night. Still have it. \,,/_(-,-)_\,,/

I just came across this. Thank you and Thank You Matt for giving this song some love. I always liked this band and this song in particular. I got a chance to see them at least once that I remember when they were supporting this album and played in Dallas in 1986. I remember it because it was an odd venue. Bands and many artists were playing in clubs and small venues that cut out a significant part of their audience (teenagers) due to serving alcohol, so alternative venues were sought out. I looked into it and saw it was at the Machinist Hall.
I remember seeing Yngwie Malmsteen this way as well, but that was at some large auditorium/gymnasium with stage(?). Can't be sure what it was, just remember it being a wide open area, no permanent chairs and having a stage that reminded me of an auditorium. This was like 1984-1985, something like that. It's been awhile :)

THE METAL CHURCH!! Such a great band. You'll find like a lot of metal bands there are 2 schools of thought: the first 2 albums with David Wayne on vocals, and the later Metal Church with a guy I don't particularly care for. This album and The Dark are their best IMO. My old band used to play 2 songs off The Dark... Ton of Bricks and the CLASSIC Watch The Children Pray. You gotta check that second one out, T. By the way, very apropos that you caught a twinge of Deep Purple in there. The first album that this tune comes from they do a cover of Deep Purple's Highway Star.

They recorded this first album in the studio as an entire band. Kurdt said they just did it the old school way. Unreal with the way they all just cut and paste pieces together to form songs these days. This is tight for a first album.

    Great vid as always!
Please check out Metal Church's "Watch the Children Pray." I had forgotten all about the song until this vid. It brought back a bunch of songs I had completely forgotten. So, THANK YOU! For reminding me about some of my old favorites!
