Post 2000 maiden is overlooked by many, but they have produced some incredible songs in the last 20 years. Sadly sone people just can't see past the 80's
Because 80s Maiden is prime. That said, this song has a catchy hook and mean riff. But it still suffers from the insufferable repetition of 2000s Maiden. They still put out some good tracks but never will they capture the 80s tone and energy again. Up the Irons.
Strongly agree, tho somewhere in time being my favourite Iron Maiden album I think alot of past 2000 songs are amazing and maybe a unpopulair opinion but I like alot of songs Janick Gers wrote.
I love the "this doesn't sound like Iron Maiden" when to me it sounds 100% like an Iron Maiden song and has all the hallmarks and signs of an Iron Maiden song. Glad they finally found a Maiden song that they enjoyed.
6 out of the 7 songs they'd previously done full reactions for were from The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, or Powerslave - three consecutive, similar-sounding classic albums, so it's not too surprising if they had a rather narrow view on what Iron Maiden is like.
Yeah exactly. It sounds 100% like Iron Maiden. It is far from being one of their best sounds but it is not bad. It's definitely not one I listen to often.
This is the one concert I will always regret no seeing, they will never play this whole album live again, there were some complaints back then , those people were fools, you can here the trooper and run to the hills anytime any year , but to here MOLAD full album live? Damn ,gimme a time machine
I saw them in Auburn Hills MI in 2006. They definitely played the entire album. I was SO happy when this song came up on the album, because they can absolutely destroy a mid-tempo grinder. I wish they would put out more songs like this. This is my second favorite song on the album, behind Brighter Than A Thousand Suns.
Yep, I was lucky enough to see them on the UK leg of the tour. Great gig, amazing album as a whole. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns and For The Greater Good Of God are another two killer tracks on this album.
That was one of the best concert experiences I ever had when I saw them in Chicago during that tour. Absolutely blew me away and I was so glad they played the full album.
Glad you liked this one fellas! This album is where Maiden “finally found the distortion button”. Please go for “For The Greater Good of God” next from the same album.
man, I picked up this album the week it came out, after a while to get used to the sound, take it all in for me it was very clear that it was the best work of the band since the seventh and remains the best
This album grew on me over the years. I remeber when it came out, the main criticism was that the songs were to slow and proggy, and I thought that too. But now, man, this album is so fking good. And seeing "For the greater good of God" live a couple of years back sealed it, this album has my total respect.
I think A Matter of Life and Death is one of Maiden's most underrated albums imo. When it came out they toured and played the whole album start to finish, truly a great show.
This song is a great example of the “modern” Iron Maiden. They sort of made the shift to more mature, less stadium rock music around the mid-2000s. This is my personal favorite Iron Maiden album. I highly recommend For the Greater Good of God or, if you want something even more modern, Hell on Earth is also incredible.
To me that shift happened when Bruce came back in 2000 for Brave New World. I know 23 years was a long time ago but it doesn't feel like a long time to me and that's what I consider modern Maiden with their longer more complex song structures. I love everything they have done since 2000. Only disappointment to me was how dead the production sounds on Dance of Death because there are some great songs on it... I try to help it by boosting the treble but it still sounds dead.
@@sinbysin666 Respectfully, I disagree with that statement. If you look at a lot of songs from A Matter of Life and Death through Senjutsu, Iron Maiden shifted to writing a lot of longer format songs that I’d certainly categorize as progressive. For the Greater Good of God, The Legacy, and Brighter Than a Thousand Suns are very similar in tone and writing to Benjamin Breeg. Sure, they still have their typical Iron Maiden bangers like Speed of Light or These Colours Don’t Run but by no means is Benjamin Breeg an oddity.
I'm so glad that you guys liked this song. It broke my heart that you guys didn't care for the other Maiden songs that you heard. The riff in the middle before the solos is one of my top 3 Maiden riffs.
Sorry to hear that it broke your heart. Personally I was slightly disappointed, before forgetting their opinions entirely. I was more confused by them not enjoying Still Of The Night (Whitesnake), it's just a reminder that tastes are different ...even though that song ticks all boxes so they were wrong!!!!
This is crazy! I was actually listening to this song a couple of days ago thinking that this might be one of those Maiden songs that Lost In Vegas might like, and here you are :D
You guys would be surprised how much of Iron Maiden’s catalogue doesn’t sound like what you would expect. I have been saying it for a long time now that you guys should listen to some of their “modern” stuff (post 2000) I think there is a ton of material since then that you guys would like. Glad you guys liked this one! Finally Iron Maiden gets a W 😂
Their new (post 2000) material is superb, a lot of my friends got stuck in the '80's era, which is killer - pun intended - but they've been cranking out quality metal for decades now
This is my favorite Maiden album. And honestly, my heart is filled with joy after seeing how many fans in the comments also love and praise this album as much as I do. If you liked the groove and the rhythm section in this song, you should definitely give "The Tower" a chance. It is from Bruce Dickinson's solo album, "The Chemical Wedding".
This álbum is an underrated masterpiece. Glad to see that finally Maiden made it up with you. “The Legacy”, “The Longest Day” and “These Colours Don’t Run” are underapreciated gems as well on this récord 👌🏼🤓
I recommend for some groovier Maiden songs: Infinite Dreams: My favorite Maiden song, very proggy Phantom of the Opera: From their first album with a different singer, also showcases the prog elements Powerslave: also a bit darker song like this one Stranger in a Strange Land: Slower song with similiar riff to this one Be Quick Or Be Dead: Fast and simple song but has similiar darker and rawer tone
A matter of life and death is definitely one of their most underrated albums, the Legacy and for the greater good of God are also incredible songs from this album.
I love all the popular Maiden songs, and for good reason, but sometimes you have to dig deep into their catalog to find the real bangers. Another example, and definitely a suggestion for the channel, is "Paschendale" from Dance of Death. Gives me chills every time I listen to it.
Paschendale is one of my favourite Maiden songs, massively overlooked but one of their most evocative songs. Some songs paint a picture, Paschendale is like a movie.
You're the best on YT. It's a pleasure to see you enjoying the music, better when is rock/metal :P And for me, an Italian guy not native in american english, you also speak clearly and i understand most of yours sentences! Greetengs from Sicily (italia)
This reaction made me smile from ear to ear. I knew you guys would just love modern Maiden :D Heavier guitars (3 guitarists with the return of Adrian Smith will do that lol) , more groove and Bruce is in a slightly lower register than the 80s era. This album is a masterpiece. Just react to their stuff from 2000 onwards ;)
I'm glad you liked this one. There are several other modern Iron Maiden songs (post 2000's) that are simply amazing, but unfortunately underrated by some of old school fans. Obviously, the classics will always be classics, and they deserve all the admiration they have. There's always highs and lows throughout the discography, but the band's entire repertoire has excellent songs, including the most recent albums. As a suggestion, i recommend tracks like "Dance of Death", "When the Wild Wind Blows", "The Book of Souls" and "For the Greater Good of God" Thanks guys for bringing to us another great reaction. Shoult out from Brazil!
For the Greater Good Of God and especially When the Wild Wind Blows are easily in my top ten Iron Maiden songs, if not top five. Amazing how a band who has been around so long can still produce new material that will make you say that.
Iron Maiden have a certain number of songs the play live - because they are crowd pleasers, fun to sing along to and just solid ballads! Then the other half of their music is like this, excellent to listen to wherever you are, but not necessarily crowd pleasing live songs. This is one of my favorites
They have such a deep catalogue of material that there will be something that should connect with anyone. Glad to finally see one these guys connect to, I promise there’s more so don’t give up…
Benjamin Breeg was the single. Such an underrated album, chocked full of deep tracks. For the Greater Good of God and Lord of Light are personal fav from this album.
You guys have just became my favorite reaction channel for reviewing this song. Maiden is my favorite band and in my opinion this is one of the most underrated and unknown songs they have done. I also believe the got better in their newer songs. You will find this sound in a lot of their new stuff. Up the irons!!!
Yep,I say the same thing all the time, one slight critique by some is the repeating choruses (I can understand that one) and all the songs start with a slow intro ( I don't agree with that as a negative, I love the intros to the songs on this disc) but it's my 2nd fave tied with Killers with #1 being powerslave and somewhere in time from time to time floats in the two spot , Sea of Madness, man that freaking song rocks! Disappointed it wasn't part of the set this year or that would have possibly been their greatest set of all time
I'm a maiden simp and pretty much like every album; but if I had to choose only 1 to listen to for the rest of my life, it would definitely be AMOLAD \m/
Gotta say thank you. I’ve slept on Iron Maiden since the 90’s and haven’t listened to this album a lot. This reaction got me back to this track and album.
I love that you guys dig this one so much. It's a hidden gem that I've always adored, and no one talks about it as much as I feel it should be. Great reaction!
I’ve noticed you guys have warmed up to Iron Maiden through the years. At first you respected the group but now I think you guys really enjoy listening to them. They grow on you at least they did me
Great reaction and thanks for sharing. All the Iron Maiden albums in the last 20 years have been great. This is one of the best. In concert this was fire. This album the band played these tracts live in the studio for the final recording. So it sounds more real and allowed them to nail it live too. Keep up the great work.
This was actually the song that introduced me to the band - has been my favourite from their catalogue ever since 👌🏻 When I've found out about the actual story behind this one - it became one of my all-time favourites 😁
Glad you guys are giving more Maiden a shot, their output after 2000 has pretty mixed opinions among fans but there are a lot of great songs. They have come to stick to this same songwriting formula more or less, long songs with a quiet intro, powerful verse and chorus with galloping interludes and guitar harmony lines before bringing it all back together with the verse and chorus, but their real strength is in the narratives they put into each song. Id also recommend Dance of Death, The Nomad, or For the Greater Good of God for songs with a similar sound. They have a talent for storytelling that is rare outside of folk songwriters, and yes they do play a lot of these songs live.
I've been watching for the last 5 years and you guys have the best reaction channel on RUclips. You either feel it or you don't but you let us know. You give insightful, intelligent views on the songs. Unlike the other channels where they listen to a song devoid of all feeling, then ask for a like after having nothing meaningful to say.
This album - A Matter of Life and Death is one my favorite albums of all time. All the songs are excellent! I still remember listening to this album when it came out and was was my introduction to Iron Maiden 🤘
The newer Maiden stuff from 2000-Now is Amazing! This album actually came out in 2006. They began recording these albums with everyone together raw and live, which makes the grooves even better. By the way, I really enjoyed this reaction! I think Maiden has something for everyone!
You guys are spot on with this one. Iron Maiden have been guilty of not filling space in there songs and being too busy on complicated arrangements. This song is definitely their best song of this century. The arrangement is straightforward and full sounding and Steve Harris the bassist and main song writer has actually just laid down a good solid bass line. The guitar solo is made so much better because of the simplified approach of the ryhthm behind it.
They didn’t want to keep repeating similar riffs on every album, so with the classic lineup reunion in 1999, they didn’t just rehash songs like that could easily fit in with their classic 80s albums. They challenged themselves and wrote more progressive music and as a 6-piece band stretched their boundaries. This album is my personal favorite since 2000. So good from start to finish
Thanks for this tidbit of information I've never heard before, that actually makes a lot of sense because there's definitely a slight change in style from "Brave New World" onward. "Brave New World" and Maiden's 1st Self Titled album are my favorite Maiden albums, "Strange World" (1st album, beautiful song) and "Blood Brothers" are my favorite Maiden songs. How do you feel about Maiden's first 2 albums?
Iron Maiden has so many best songs ever ! That’s why is still the best band ! They never stop surprising us ! The ongoing tour is one of the best set list ever ! They got older and greater
I think you guys would really enjoy the first two Iron Maiden albums with Paul Di'Anno on vocals. A rawer, grittier, almost Punk-like version of Iron Maiden. Not many react to this era, and some would argue it's still the best era of Maiden.
A Matter of Life and Death along with Somewhere in Time lived in my car’s CD player all four years throughout high school. I made sure to pump this shit proudly in the parking lot when they came to NY for this tour.….I’ll never forget it!
So happy to see you both loving it, and the comment section also loving it. Always been my fav maiden album and I feel a lot of the "old school" crowd looks down upon modern Maiden. Cause I think post 2000 Maiden is some of the best they ever made.
Maiden started morphing into a prog metal band in the late 90s. Bruce Dickinson rejoined in 2000 and they continued down that tract ever since. This is from their 2006 release, "A Matter of Life and Death". This is actually one of the few songs written by guitarist Dave Murray. He doesn't write a lot, but when he does, it's fiyah. Maiden has six albums in this vein: Brave New World (2000), Dance of Death (2003), A Matter of Life and Death (2006), The Final Frontier (2010), The Book of Souls (2015), Senjutsu (2021). If this is your thing, you guys should stick with this era. Plenty of material to choose from.
Iron Maiden has been around for 40 years. They have released so many albums and experimented with a lot of sounds. Since you both liked this one, do Brighter than a thousand suns off the same album
Here's a list of modern maiden songs you guys should check (one per album): - Man on the Edge - The Clansman - Ghost of the Navigator - Dance of Death - For the Greater Good of God - When the Wild Wind Blows - The Book of Souls - Senjutsu
Absolutely agree Ryan. The riff style and the tempo will take anyone in and get their attention. It doesn't need to be technically brilliant, it just needs to take you there. This song is fire. The riffs in this jam grab you immediately.....and they keep you right there in the pocket for years.
These days Iron Maiden does sounds like this, for the most part. They have three "main" eras of sound: the Di'Anno chapter and it's prog/punk musings (giving us the albums 'Iron Maiden' and 'Killers'), the epic run where they started with 'Number of the Beast' and ended with the cherry on top: 'Seventh Son', to the "Lost Years" of 'No Prayer for the Dying' through 'Virtual XI', and finally the modern era where they bring everything from the previous eras together to create a second epic run of material, from 'Brave New World' to 'Senjustu'. The "Lost Years" had some good stuff, but too much of their output here also reflected some of the lack of focus that was going on in the band. Only about 1/2 of the songs on the last two albums with Bruce make it onto my Maiden playlist. Bruce left the band, and ironically, the next two albums (which were the least liked albums from that era) produced two of the best songs that the band had ever made up to that point: 'Sign of the Cross' and 'The Clansman'. IMO these two songs are not only excellent, but more importantly for me, work as a sonic bridge to their second epic run that started with 'Brave New World'; you can hear bits and pieces of what was and what is to come in them. At least half of the songs on the four albums in the 90s (again IMO) are uninspired at best, and in the context of a career spanning playlist, distracting.
So happy you reacted to this song, I always loved it and they just played it on this album tour. They played the whole album, in fact. From that day I saw them playing this record, The Legacy (last song of the album) is probably my favorite song of them.
I am so glad you guys loved this. One of my favorites. The album seemed to comment on the wars that were that were going on the time. Try doing For the Greater Goo of God or Paschendale.
OMG! If you guys are wanting to hear more from this album, I feel like everyone might shout me down and people tend to see this as one of the worst songs, but I LOVE the first song - Different World. What you were saying in this episode about complexity and just enjoying a good song really speaks to me and that song - it's really direct and stands out on a VERY dark, complex album, but it has such a joyful, singalong chorus with so much energy! Hope you check it out as I think you'll really like it :)
The bottom line is that y'all have not listened to enough Maiden to properly contextualize this song. It's not a departure for them, it's just another badass banger! There are so many in their 17-album catalogue that it's going to take you awhile to catch up. Up the irons!
Love seeing you being so hyped up about a song! This whole album is incredible, dont sleep on the newer Iron Maiden, they are amazing! I also think you should get back to Trivium, The Phalanx is similiar to this sound and i think you will like it!

I'd say it simply comes down to the guitars having more distortion on their modern stuff.
Okay I’ll say it. Fear of the Dark live. Y’all will love it.
Yeah exactly. It sounds 100% like Iron Maiden. It is far from being one of their best sounds but it is not bad. It's definitely not one I listen to often.

It upset a few fans too lol
Each to their own. I saw it in hammersmith and it was boring as all dick. That's even with a power cut lol
I saw Maiden live 11 times. That Matter of Life and Death gig was not the worst of the lot only because I saw one with Blaze, but it was a drag.
I think A Matter of Life and Death is one of Maiden's most underrated albums imo. When it came out they toured and played the whole album start to finish, truly a great show.

3. A matter of life and death

Lord of Light is the best song on AMOLAD
Don't forget For The Greater Good Of God.
The Legacy is disgustingly under appreciated. Maiden need to play it live again to gert a good live recording of it. Those final verses are beautiful
Saw them play this live when they toured for this album. This whole album rocks this hard. One of my fav Maiden albums.
I recommend for some groovier Maiden songs:

Phantom of the Opera: From their first album with a different singer, also showcases the prog elements
Powerslave: also a bit darker song like this one
Stranger in a Strange Land: Slower song with similiar riff to this one
Be Quick Or Be Dead: Fast and simple song but has similiar darker and rawer tone
Give Brighter than a thousand suns a jam from this album. Some of maidens best lyrics
I think that’s a great choice, similar heavy riffs to this song.
My favorite song from this album, such a banger! 🤘🤘🤘🤘

That “completely different sound” is called age. Maiden is one of the best but their early stuff is perfect.

Iron's most criminally underrated album. This is a 10/10 masterpiece.
It's my favorite album of theirs
It's my favorite album of theirs
Agreed, Also Dance of Death is very good 👍
Damn last time I heard this song was at least 10 years ago. Thanks for the flashbacks!
I know everyone says Number of the Beast or Powerslave is their top album...but this is my favorite album from them. A true "no skips" album to me!
For me the No Skip album is Piece of Mind. AMOLAD is brilliant on side B only in my opinion. I am also a Die Hard fan for The Final Frontier.
Piece of Mind also
I saw them in Chicago in 1984 during their Powerslave album tour. Great show!
Gotta say thank you. I’ve slept on Iron Maiden since the 90’s and haven’t listened to this album a lot. This reaction got me back to this track and album.
My brothers I’d love to see you going all through their songs! Love how you analyse music
I love that you guys dig this one so much. It's a hidden gem that I've always adored, and no one talks about it as much as I feel it should be.
Great reaction!
I was WAITING for you guys to do this song! I love it when you guys love a song; by far the most entertaining reaction vids out there.
Entire album is pure fire!
They have a talent for storytelling that is rare outside of folk songwriters, and yes they do play a lot of these songs live.
;) this is a great warm up for the Iron Maiden concert I'm going to tonight!
(shoutout from the Netherlands)
The secret ingredient is Dave Murray. He doesn't write many songs but when he does they are always phenomenal
I think you'd probably enjoy Bruce's solo stuff way more than Maiden's, specially the albums Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding
Chemical Wedding is amazing.
Those are amazing
I love accident of birth.
I'll check out that other one
Cheers
I've been watching for the last 5 years and you guys have the best reaction channel on RUclips. You either feel it or you don't but you let us know. You give insightful, intelligent views on the songs. Unlike the other channels where they listen to a song devoid of all feeling, then ask for a like after having nothing meaningful to say.
Brighter than 1000 suns - from the same album - Do It!!!
Brighter than a thousand Suns is pretty dope too from this same album
If you don't go see Iron Maiden live, you are missing out on an unforgettable experience!!
I'm going in October! So excited to see some living legends jam out. Up the Irons!!
Any Maiden Fan knows this is them straight up. Really good album. Got stuck in my car cd player for 6 months and was not upset about it. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Outstanding work, fellas! Great reaction to a great song!
Love, love, love this album. One of my top 3 Maiden albums for sure
Really enjoyed your reaction. This was a genuine find for me as well. \m/
Iron Maiden has so many best songs ever ! That’s why is still the best band ! They never stop surprising us ! The ongoing tour is one of the best set list ever ! They got older and greater
One of your best reactions in a long long time.
Definitely one of my favorite songs from Iron Maiden. I remember when it came out and I was blown away by it.
One of my favourite songs of all time. This album was outstanding.
Passchendaele or The Longest Day next please! (do a little read about the battles beforehand)
I just rediscovered this album and I'm loving it so much.
Thanks for that reaction, underrated track, maybe because it's a bit different from typical IM, but one of my favorites, greetings from Poland guys 🤘
I think you guys will love Red and the Black song from the recent album. Amazing grooves in that album
an awesome song off an overlooked album, you guys a suckers for killer transitions
Awesome reaction as usual. Try " Brighter Than a Thousand Suns", you're gonna love it for sure.
Awesome track and the album in general is pretty underrated. Still think you guys need to do Powerslave!
Yeah - second Poweslave, maybe the live flight 666 version
This is a really, really underrated album. For the Greater Good of God is possibly the standout track but it's full of proper bangers.
Iron Maiden has been around for 40 years. They have released so many albums and experimented with a lot of sounds. Since you both liked this one, do Brighter than a thousand suns off the same album
*Over* 40 years. They formed in 1975, and Iron Maiden came out 43 years ago.
At the time this album came out I was convinced it was their best album. You just reconvinced me
Their catalog is so large that eventually youll find something you like. Finally! I feel like you will like their post 2000s stuff much more
Dave Murray not the most productive songwriter, but when he come out with something it hits hard! 😀
THANK YOU FOR REACTION, GREETENGS FROM DENMARK❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Here's a list of modern maiden songs you guys should check (one per album):
- Man on the Edge
- The Clansman
- Ghost of the Navigator
- Dance of Death
- For the Greater Good of God
- When the Wild Wind Blows
- The Book of Souls
- Senjutsu
They played this album live from beginning to end in 2006, i was there at Manchester, great show it was, its one of my favourite maiden albums
From the first time I heard this song before the album came out to today, this song is a masterwork and gives me chills.
So happy you reacted to this song, I always loved it and they just played it on this album tour. They played the whole album, in fact. From that day I saw them playing this record, The Legacy (last song of the album) is probably my favorite song of them.
Glad you gave the more modern stuff a chance! How about Paschendale from Dance of Death? What does everyone else think?
I forgot how hard this song rocks. Now I gotta revisit the album. Thanks dudes.
I hit the like button before I watch every video of yours. You deserve it.
Up the IRONS, always ready to give you master-piece! Kudus in Botswana, Afrika!
Love seeing you being so hyped up about a song! This whole album is incredible, dont sleep on the newer Iron Maiden, they are amazing! I also think you should get back to Trivium, The Phalanx is similiar to this sound and i think you will like it!
