    ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?
Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot.

    Have a great day!!

Geoff Tate, in my opinion, is the best metal lead vocalist of all time and this is the song he does that I use as the reason why. Geoff was the original lead vocalist of Queensryche, one of the original founders of the Progressive or Prog Metal genre. He is 62 years old, but still singing with his own band, doing much of his old Queensryche stuff. His best stuff includes the songs Queen of the Reich, The Lady Wore Black, Walk in the Shadows, Eyes of a Stranger, I Don’t Believe in Love, Another Rainy Night and You. In case you can’t tell, his band, Queensryche, are one of my favorite bands and he is my favorite singer, but, let me tell you once again, that this song is the best example of what he can do. It was great to see someone notice his brilliance like I do.

Geoff Tate was and is a beast on vocals, back in his prime he was at the top with the greatest, it’s crazy to think about when his speaking voice is actually quite deep, that he could reach those insane high notes...
His tone has changed over the years, he sings in a deeper key now, but he’s still an amazing vocalist and an amazing lyricist and storyteller...
But that being said, I’ve heard some new concert videos with him from 2018 and 2019, it’s like his voice has gotten so much better again and he can hit some really awesome high notes again without it’s even looking hard for him to do...

Take hold of the flame! Don't you see life a game.....This song is mystical, magical, and ask you to go within. This decade of the 80s brought all metal heads together in this unique and beautiful bond. The amazing art created here passes all understanding. It is from a another world and deminsion. I had the pleasure of working with Tate a few years back when he and his band did an acoustic set at a local venue. He was friendly enough and fairly drama-free to work with. I am happy to report that his voice is still amazing. He cannot quite hit some of the super-high stuff from days of yore, but I about lost it when he did "Eyes of a Stranger." I was in the sound booth staring in slack-jawed wonder at this man's voice. I mixed the opening bands and his BE mixed his show, so I was able to just enjoy the show. I grew up worshiping Queensryche and Geoff Tate, I was a singer in a rock band who modeled my voice after him and other dynamic great rock vocalists. Unfortunately, I met him a few times and each time he was a total D bag. Ugh. Still doesn't dampen my respect for his voice back then, and that band. On the flip side, Chris DeGarmo was a total sweetheart. No wonder he left the band decades ago. Love her reaction, lol. That video brings back a lot of memories. Watched it many a time growing up, and was one of the primary accelerants that definitely lit my fire vocally. The other killer vocalist back then was Tony Harnell from TNT. I was shocked when I heard Queensryche for the first time when my best friend and I were going to see Metallica in 1988, and Queensryche was opening. Operation Mindcrime had JUST come out and had not hit yet, and Queensryche hits the stage and I was seriously blown away by them. They did a fantastic show and with their musicianship set the crowd up for the power and brutality that was Metallica. I was an instant fan.
Unfortunately for Geoff, he set the bar so high with his vocals through the years that he could only deliver half to three-quarters of the was from 1991 forward, and the band paid for it. Several mediocre albums after Empire, them waiting too damn long to record Operation Mindcrime II when Geoff could not deliver the goods on that level anymore, and then the rather nasty public squabble over naming rights all tarnished the band's legacy.
It's a shame because Queensryche could have been one of the all-time great bands had things gone differently for them.

@@Rendclaw Sad but true. As much as I like Geoff Tate as a vocalist (at least back then he was one of the top dogs), I think the band really went downhill after Chris de Garmo left. Still they had some good songs then and there after Empire, but that golden age (Queensryche LP, The Warning, Rage for Order, Operation:Mindcrime -And i'll go back to this album shortly- and Empire) was something unique and unrepeatable
And Idk, despite the band tarnishing their legacy, Operation:Mindcrime is still as -if not more- relevant as back then!
And back to the point at hand, Geof Tate as a Vocalist was freaking amazing, and it saddens me how things went for this amazing band. Still early Geoff remains one of my favorite vocalists, that power, control and range..Right there with the holy triumvirate of metal vocalist of that time

@@Bartikus Geoff was probably classically trained, like me and a lot of others. Not operatic perse, but you do learn all the right singing techniques to be able to sing anything (also opera, although that takes a lot of skills and experience to be done in the right way). And yes, Geoff was fantastic, amazing live!

I've been a bassist for 35 years, playing in bands like this. My oldest daughter went to school as a vocal performance major (she's 25) and my 20 year old daughter plays guitar. This is the music they were raised on, and as babies used to fall asleep on a blanket on the floor as my band practiced in the basement. I am so very happy that young vocalists such as yourself are giving people like Tate, Dio, Dickinson and Halford the kudos they deserve even if it is on a monetary RUclips channel. Keep discovering and appreciating music outside of your normal genre (next to metal, my favorite music is bluegrass for the pure musicianship). You give me hope, my dear, that when my generation is gone we will not be forgotten.

Great post Ted, like you, I grew up on rock bands like this, and have come to appreciate the immense talent some of these performers had and still have. Huge, huge fan of all the guys you listed. One personal opinion..... I think Geoff Tate may have been the most gifted vocally of the entire genre. However, it is just one opinion of many...LOL

    • @rdjraa4983
      @rdjraa4983 5 лет назад +2

Right you are Ted. Bands like this paid their dues, played in bars and hovels, but came up thru the ranks. Established themselves as top shelf talent. Then you have ass hats like Justin Beiber who's only claim to fame is he was "discovered" on You Tube. And grew to be a total talentless jerk. I,as you, have been a musician for over 50 years [drums] and can attest to what you said. Great point Ted.

The one thing I still remember to this day, was listening to Geoff's voice. Fucking amazing. A few years later, deservedly so, they lit the charts on fire with their album Empire.

@@cryptojihadi265 - he could hit those if he adjust his vocal range to a lower key. A deeper lower resonance still has power and can exert greater control. He still has it, just the colors are deeper, richer within a range that is more suitable for these times. This song works acoustically and at a slower time signature. Gorgeous & timeless...

Geoff Tate is in a category reserved for Rob Halford, Freddie Mercury and Bruce Dickinson. Pure vocal perfection across the board.
Having seen all but Freddie live, Geoff has the most theatricality and finesse. His range, tone and control are INSANE. I have seen Geoff and Queensryche 4 times live starting in 1986 when they opened for AC/DC and I thought that they were better than an opening band. The last time I saw them was when Type O Negative opened for them in 1995. Still one of the best shows I have ever seen and I have seen LEGENDS live like Led Zeppelin in 1976, Pink Floyd and Rush in 1981. Geoff Tate is incomparable.
