Still stands as one of the best live vocal performances of all time. Incredible. Especially considering he'd already been singing an hour before belting this out like it was nothing
And this wasn't last time he belts the sh*t out as this performance. There's some video/audio audicence recordings from '84-'87 where he kicks ass, my favourites (if someone wanna check them) are Detroit '84, Pittsburgh '85, Michigan '86 and Houston '86. Rock on!
@@benitokamelo252 that Pittsburgh show was insane. There's camcorder footage where Tate blows out the camcorder's mic with his E5 on Queen of Reich! He was otherworldly live ruclips.net/video/4G79hp7AnWc/видео.html
@@rbrebrook Imagine the power behind that E5. Insane
And all without voice technology. 🤘😎🤘
Its a touched up with the studio version...sorry to bust your bubble but go listen to studio version and this side by side. I love Queensryche...im a fan but its 99% the studio cut.
No in-ear monitors..autotune.. backing tracks..100% talent...he was only 25 years old here. 😮
This band was absolutely amazing with Geoff Tate on vocals and Chris DeGarmo on lead guitar.
They were operating on a different level entirely. The original line up was incredible as they were all great musicians, but Tate and DeGarmo set them worlds apart from 95% of the other of that genre during that time. I was pretty young when I first heard them and I remember how it moved me, it was almost as though it changed my entire perception of what music could be.
I will never get tired of this stuff, for me it's absolutely timeless
@@kwantoon Amen to that! Their initial EP release blew my mind when I was in high school and I was instantly hooked. I actually knew Mike Stone in the mid 80's, who replaced DeGarmo on guitar eventually. But, the band was never the same. At least it's fun to tell friends that the guitarist of Queensryche installed a pickup in my guitar once : )
Eye of an eagle? Was that the one?
Gave me goose bumps. I think it was “eye of an eagle!”?
Not this song
You should sit and listen to the Operation Mindcrime album in its entirety. It is a concept album that tells a story from start to finish. No bad songs on the entire album.
100%. A real concept album masterpiece, in the true sense of the word masterpiece.
Operation Mindcroiiiiiiiiiiimeeeee!
The only times I don't grin listening to Queensryche is crying in the later parts of O:MC
Can only add my support to this! :)
Incredible album. My favorite Queensryche album.
I agree
Shout out to Chris DeGarmo for being able to keep up with Geoff Tate vocals
Im so happy you reacted to this song! this is only the tip of the iceberg with Geoff. I HIGHLY recommend "Roads to Madness" (studio version) off the album "the Warning" by Queensrÿche, it is an INSANE performance and a masterpiece of a song.
@@down-the-rabbit-hole I agree completely. The album in general is a masterpiece. My favorite is either Roads to Madness or No sanctuary, but honestly I love every single song on the Warning. Not to mention the next few albums. Roads to Madness is probably my favorite if not one of my favorite Tate performances
Yes!!!
Geoff's finest vocal moment!
I completely agree with you about your recommendation.
And don’t miss the fact, this was before auto tune and all the technology to record we have today. You couldn’t fake anything. These guys, like Rush sounded as good or better live than studio.
Geoff is so amazing. One of the greatest live performances I've ever seen. Powerful perfect vocals.
When did you get to see them? For me it was 1986 on their "Rage for Order" Tour. I was 16 and they were opening for Ozzy on his "Ultimate Sin" Tour
One of my favorite Queensrÿche live performances is "I Will Remember" on MTV's Unplugged from 1992.
ruclips.net/video/1pxMrlzslHA/видео.html
Glad you got to discover this, it's one of my all-time favourite performances, ever. Geoff Tate at his ultimate vocal peak powers. Would you consider reacting to Gary Moore and his tracks 'Still Got The Blues For You' (Live!) and/or his live performance of 'Empty Rooms - Live in Stockholm 1987.' I feel you'd really love these also.
So glad you recommend the GOD Gary Moore............simply a genius.
Again Aileen, your appreciation of these bands like Queensryche, brings me(us) back to when these tunes were fresh and with such great live performances.
It feels so real and now again, as you show us your own love for these timeless, heartfelt productions.
I loved Queensryche. I got a chance to see them live a few times and it always amazed me how close to their records they sound live! Geoff was amazing! You're amazing as well!
🤘🔥
It's so cool that a nearly forgotten video from the early 80s became one of the most popular reaction videos in 2022/2023. I loved these guys growing up.
This was a special band back in the day. I was very fortunate to have seen this original line-up 3 times and each performance was great.
Me too, several shows back in the day and always an incredible performance by the whole band. One of the best.
I agree. I got to see them perform the entire Mindcrime Album live. Absolutely Amazing.
Geoff was too good in his younger days. So much so that people these days hold him to an impossible standard. His younger self. The guy was around 24/25 when this was shot. He's 64 this year. He's definitely still got it and is a vocal force to be reckoned with, but he's also not 24 anymore. Male voices deepen/get richer as we age. Back then he was delivering a studio perfect vocal performance. These days his performances of those songs are far from studio perfect, but they're damn close enough on a good day.
His attitude killed him , not his aging voice .
Great reaction...Take a look at their song "Lady Wore Black".
You'll be stoked
One word ........Epic ..........just totally epic of a performance, epic vocalist , epic writing, epic drums , epic guitars , and its live !!
Geoff makes it look so easy because it was SO EASY FOR HIM. He was amazing. Him and Mike Patton make up two decades of unprecedent vocal talent.
When did you talk to him?
Patton?
Queensryche has a fiercely loyal fan base. I think you can see why. Their fans see the greatness.
The Warning is one of their best albums
Their first 3 album ("The Warning", "Rage for Order", and "Operation Mindcrime") are all amazing, and easily their best 3 :)
Rage for Order is probably my fave.
He was in his high belt for a majority of the song - impressive.
Cleanly hit 3 E5’s during the song and 2 of the 3 were sustained - impressive.
The ability to switch quickly from his chest to his head/mixed voice without any loss of tone quality - impressive.
Quite the performance and if you were lucky enough to see them live at some point you know they were the real deal.
I had the opportunity to see them on MTv Unplugged and he was the real deal. I’ve also seen relatively recent videos of him live with a group called Sweet Oblivion; and even at age 63 he can still belt out those notes like he’s ordering takeout.
That second E5 (there are three in the song) he hits at 7:12, is like a piece of magic. Probably never to be replicated again.
And that Good people is how we rolled in the 80's. 🙂
To listen to thr ryche in its purest form listen to the MTV unplugged session. Pick a tune from that session you can't go wrong. "Killing words",I WILL Remember, Scarborough Fair Etc.
Try out the Roads to Madness, The Warning, Neu Regel, the ENTIRE Operation: Mindcrime. Anything from Mindcrime back is must hear.
"His voice is like liquid gold..." Yep. He's not called "the Voice" for nothing! Nice react. :)
Check out Roads to Madness. Truly epic Queensrÿche tune.
also the incredible ethereal and beautiful guitar playing of chris degarmo at the beginning.
It's amazing how he can transition his voice from lower to higher octaves. First 4 albums are awsome.
As someone who appreciates Geoff Tate's vocal range, I believe you would very much enjoy listening to Queensryche's cover of "Scarborough Fair" (electric version, not acoustic)
Such an underrated group and Geoff is my male Floor Hansen, haha
This is the video that drives all the vocal coach reactors nuts. The baritone that sings most of the song in the 5th octave.
Other Queensryche songs? I’m not such which ones have good videos, but I can suggest Empire, The Real World, I Don’t Believe In Love, Anybody Listening?, Spreading The Disease, I Will Remember, No Sanctuary.
Check out the studio version of "I Dream in Infrared" from "Rage for Order." While you're there, check out all of "Rage for Order." One of their best albums.
One of the best albums of the 80's - period.
Aileen: Like a lullaby, almost.
Queensryche fans: Wait for it....
😀
Another great reaction by you! They were influenced by Pink Floyd so it is no surprise that the music of both bands move you. I am a professional drummer and The Warning (the album this song is on) came out when I was only playing for a year or so. Very influential and inspiring to me! I would love to see you do a full album reaction of their masterpiece concept album Operation Mindcrime. You would break the internet!
Great reaction on this awesome song as always! Lady wore black is another gem. Happy 2023 to you and your loved ones ❤
I think they were in their early twenties back then. This entire album is amazing. I recommend "NM 156".
Chris DeGarmo ain't too shabby either.............
The high notes he does are all E5s
The dude is INHUMAN!!!
Geoffs voice can be heard from space😊😊❤
Yay! Was hoping you'd do this song and this version.
Most bands can't even perform to this level in the studio. Geoff was just on an entirely different level for this performance.
Suite Sister Mary (official video), which should be from Operation: Livecrime. Also, "I Will Remember" from MTV Unplugged.
Geoff Tate will go down in history as one of the most talented vocalists ever!! The fact that you said his voice is liquid gold means that you are in my circle of music love. I feel like he never truly received the respect he deserved!!
GREAT reaction! I had the privelege of seeing this tour live at L'Amour rock club in Brooklyn way back in the day. It still remains one of the best live rock performances i've ever seen! Geoff Tate is not of this earth!
One of the best bands that I have ever seen live, the original band was second to none.
Some of my favorites:
"ANYBODY LISTENING?"
"ONE MORE TIME"
"ROADS TO MADNESS"
"ANOTHER RAINY NIGHT"
"BREAKING THE SILENCE"
"REAL WORLD"
"JET CITY WOMAN"
"THE THIN LINE"
"I DREAM IN INFRARED"
"WALK IN THE SHADOWS"
"CHILD OF FIRE"
"THE MISSION"
To name only a few. 😜
Suite Sister Mary from Operation Live Crime is excellent. Everyone seems to do Take Hold.
ruclips.net/video/8CZGion20E4/видео.html
His voice is a masterpiece queensryche was sadly underrated it's a shame check out is anybody listening? Silent lucidity I will remember killing words both on Mtv unplugged
Queen of the Ryche/Lady wore black/ The whisper/Walk in the Shadows/The needle lies/Breaking the silence. I could go on and on
Child of Fire, Road to Madness, Operation Mindcrime, Geoff is the Idol🎉☝️🫶🫰have a pleasant day folks
I vote Walk in the shadows next for queensryche
Also for thrash Demolition hammer skull fracturing nightmare
So effortless… looks like he just take a walk on the street… ❤
Hi Aileen, another great reaction! Can you please react to "Jet City Woman " and "Another Rainy Night ".Hope you have a wonderful weekend! 🤘❤️
Glad you got to experience this. Still in my opinion one of his most powerful vocals. In my opinion only second to queen of the ryche. Which I still highly recommend along with the lady wore black.
I just saw Geoff Tate in concert last month (last year haha) he is now 64 or so still an amazing voice check out "Walk the thin line" most resent live performance you'll be amazed ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, still blown away what I saw at the whiskey go go in Hollywood
Honestly, any Queensrych song from the original line up, won't disappoint.
You should also check out "The Lady Wore Black" from this same concert
Yes!!!!💕
There are a lot of memorable songs by them, but I would recommend u Anybody Listening. Is not so known, but it has the Silent Lucidity vibe and the power of heavy metal gods.
Geoff Tate Chris degarmo are queensryche 🎸🎤🤘🤘🤘
So this was the encore, about 2 hours into the gig and Geoff's like, I gotta hit an E5 here guys?? Ok. How ' bout three of 'em? LOL
Another absolutely spot on and incredibly honest review Aileen!
This song is 39 years old and your reaction to it is priceless!
Thank you for the smile you leave on our faces.
Saw them on this tour (American leg of tour) yup I am old lol. Thank you for this. I have shared this with anyone that would watch :)
Finally made it to the top of the mountain of 80's metal and one of Geoff's finest moments, basically any live performance was one of his finest moments lol
queenscryche everyone is in for a treat damn awesome geoff tate who is about 25 here has such an impressive range
Saw them on the Empire tour. Geoff is incredible live. They just blew up with "Silent Lucidity" so the goofy new fans booed Suicidal Tendencies who were awesome too.
Saw them twice that tour and don't recall any booing. Did make the mistake of getting too close to the stage in Green Bay and wound up in the pit when ST took the stage. Backed out and all was good.
@@jamie4993 very cool. I saw them in Memphis, TN. Not a lot of brain cells there you know? I DID see some of the greatest bands of all-time in their prime in Memphis though. The Queensryche show was one of the shows where the fans were lame.
The only time I don't grin listening to Queensryche is crying towards the end of O:MC...
Finally some real music. 😜 No seriously, this is an epic performance and Queensrÿche rules!
Really iron maiden, Metallica, early Judas priest not real music. To me your statement says not a real music fan.
@@down-the-rabbit-hole he was amazing, I'll give you that. But Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson our metal gods not to mention the third one on the podium Ronnie James Dio,
@@kurtsaxton823 Well I don't really give a 💩 because not only am I music fan, objectively by definition (aka whether you agree or not) but I'm also a full-time working musician. Feels good man.
And Chris DeGarmo killing it on backing vocals and guitar!
One of the things I love about Queensryche s the use of strong backing vocals. So few bands put backing vocals to work.
When i first heard geoff i thought, now thats a fawkin singer....wow. queensryche is so special.
the songs someone else and disconnected also the real world, from the album promised land Aileen you find these interesting enjoy😁😁😁
Another perfect comment…”Head empty. Just Queensryche.”
Yep…they can do do that to ya at times.
🤘😝🤘my first concert was these guys in 87. Yes he sounded the same live and in the studio.
Check out the album Operation Mindcrime .. do that from song one all the way to the end it's like an opera drama story good songs
*I do hope your next Queensryche reaction is the first song of theirs I heard which was the one that hooked me. It is "Queen of the Reich."*
yeah the begining,i still got the casette l.o.l🤘
I dont know where you came from but you have fucking nailed it Aileen thank you
Yeeeeees that's Queensryche 💯 you gotta check out The Lady wore Black or Queen of the Riech live from this concert. Simply perfection 👌
What makes this song even better is when you see the lyrics its like his voice makes what he's saying mean much more
This really showcases Geoff Tate's voice.
Very nice. Thanks 👍
Love to watch my favorite group thank you like your reactions 😁
geoff tate's vocal range back in the day was mad crazy he also be operatically trained
Silent lucidity shows Tates’ deeper voice technique
I don't think iv ever seen u smile so much during a reaction lol 😆 🤘
Back before autotune made singers lazy!
3 good songs from them;Queen of the Reich, London, Walk in the Shadows
I still have a hard time believing this is a legit performance, I know it is, but it’s so damn perfect I’m left incredulous every time.
You should listen to the Queen of the Reich which they played next in this concert.
I have seen now five times live they may not be the best when it comes to light show or anything like pyrotechnics but they are the best when it comes to just all out singing
How do I get a recommendation to you without everyone finding it or seeing it? In case you decide to do it.
One More Time from the Promise Land album 😉.
And this was the encore after a 2hr set.. Tate was unstoppable at this time
Looked forward to seeing your reaction to this track!! Future Queensryche suggestions - "Breaking The Silence", "I Don't believe in Love", "Another Rainy Night"....
Yes, yes, yes. And never forget to play play Operation Mindcrime when you're feeling a bit low (or feeling happy (doesn't matter) (a bit of a dark story, but better than all the movies since > 2000s
Such a beautiful wicked band. Saw them the first time when I was a toddler in the Low Countries. Happy days.
& Happy New Year & keep up the brilliant work. You bring joy to us.
Saw that tour live and it was ear piercing hearing that song live.
Queensrych always sounded better live than their CDs did
I just saw him in Memphis Tennessee and YES he is still great.
For dark and beautiful, I'd recommend London from the album, Rage for Order. IMO, it's a vampire's lament.
Or "Walk in the Shadows" for another subtle vampire perspective with even higher vocal energy than Geoff's usual blow-the-roof-off energy!
This was ‘84. He (Geoff) was/is amazing and the band, as well.
