Yes its live. I was there and totally hooked as soon as i heard Floor which was at Wacken the first time and was blown away. Hooked on a singer straight away is rare but she hooked me straight away and i still get tears in my eyes listening to her but i had a meltdown at Wacken. Absolute goosebumps with 80,000 others. Best concert i've been too apart from Live Aid and seeing Queen live.
@@Nightmareloh Hollowed By Thy name live. "The sands of time for me are running looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!"
FYI : YES, it’s live. And it’s the 13th song out of 15 on the set-list. Which means she’s been singing and headbanging for about 75 minutes before that
About 20 years ago, maybe longer, i went to a festival where Floor preformed with the band After Forever. At one point the power went off of stage and there was a fan and the one spotlight and she sang her heart out, no microphone. It was one of the most memorable moments I've ever had on a festival.
@@davidbarrass5210 Well, even the very first album, which was not supposed to be sold out of Finland, is in english. The truth is, I’don’t known if it because of the rythm of the phrases or whatever but whe it comes to singing and composing, english sounds better than most languages
@@12Burton24 When phone books still existed, page after page, after page full of Jansen in any town in the Netherlands. Jansen is a contraction of Jan's son where Jan is short for Johannus (as in John the Baptist) ....see the fun of Floor being married to Hannes?
Floor Jansen, 4 years rock academy, 1 year classical, 1 year musical theater. Floor is a coloratura soprano with a 3 1/2 + octave range. IMO the most versatile female vocalist on earth.
About the only singer I can say for sure is more Versatile would be Yannis Papadopoulos but from what I can find on line his actual vocal range is A1-E♭6. Hearing him sing Black Night for Warrior Path, and then jumping to Bind and Frozen from Beast in Black. Between those 2 songs it's easy to think there are three singers involved if you don't see him singing.
Yes, this is really the reaction of a person who not only understands music, but also feels it. For me, this is the best and, most importantly, sincere reaction of all those I have seen. Thank you.
I totally agree - I have seen other reactions to this video and whilst they are all wonderful in their way, @nickhiggsthesinger gave a heartfelt reaction which hit him deep just like the first time I saw and heard this video.
Agreed! Nothing is worse than a reactor who sits there, says nothing except thanks at the end. If somebody doesn't want the interruptions, they can go straight to the band's post of the song.
Yes, that's the effect Floor has. She did a show "de beste zangers" in the Netherlands, singing all kind of songs. She can sing anything you throw at her. Just amazing ❤❤
I was there at that concert. "She knows she killed it" is so great to hear from you. Nightwish was just finishing their world tour and played Wacken with their new singer Floor who just had joined the band that same year. She was the second exchange after the band parted from opera singer Tarja in 2005. Nighwish songs were created for and with Tarjas vocal range. Floor was under immense pressure to learn and deliver the vocals in a short time. The energy in the crowd was rather negative before the gig. We were sceptical how the new singer would fit in and whether she could deliver the songs. There was a lot at play for Nightwish that night. Also, playing a 10 minute operatic song on a festival, not a concert tour, is kind of a risky thing to do. But you've seen Floor now. 😊 She nailed it and created magic that night and i still love watching the concert video 11 years later. Oh boy she delivered. And she and Nightwish kept on suprising us with wonderful music ever since.
I always thought it was crazy so many Nightwish fans were skeptical at that time because After Forever had been around awhile already. I was constantly telling them to check out After Forever to assuage their worries.
Oh god, when I saw the bullhead I realized I was also there hat night. I remember the scepticism in the crow that night. But she nailed it so hard. If I remember correctly she hadn't really joined the band yet at that point. She filled in and was initially only there for the rest of the tour and afterwards stayed with them. I didn't really realized she was in After Forever, before I looked her up back in the days, cause that band didn't really stuck with me. After seeing this reaction video I had to check them again for the difference why, and I think it is the band itself. Her voice was also incredible then but the band lacked the power and intensity Nightwish has. And to be honest Nightwishs sonwriters are geniuses. So their songs, even if these were written for Tarja, really underlined her voice. And that's what made this performance so outstanding.
Thanks for that insight, Angid_255. I discovered Nightwish several years ago by accident. I LoveE Tarja. She sang the first Nightwish songs I ever heard. Then I heard GLS with Floor, and read the story of her coming to the group. She became the Heart of Nightwish that night. Nightwish is now my favorite band. I wish them all well, and love, and I hope they continue to give us some of the best music this planet has ever produced. Thanks Tuomas, Thanks Floor, and Thanks to each and every member of the group, past and present.
I'm so jealous of you, when I heard ghost love score for the first time during that concert on youtube, I would have loved to hear it for real. the atmosphere there must have been breathtaking. what a fantastic memory you have there.
Love my fellow Dutch gall Floor Jansen finally getting what she deserves. She's the best singer!! If you're trained like that from a young girl, classical and School of Rock in Tilburg (a Dutch Musical School) there's nothing like it. Proud!!!
Mead, maybe? Would be more Power/Symphonic Metal. But don't mind me, I have even found a band or two where I like growling, despite normally hating it.
"Do you get the impression she's going to have a sore throat tomorrow?" I was there that night, somewhere out in the mass of the crowd... and this was like their 13th song of the night. And they didn't stop.
This is the first time I've encountered a fan who was actually there! I've been a fan for well over 20 years, seen them live with all three singers and I am suuuuper jealous! This performance is legendary and I think it is an incredibly awesome thing that you can say: you were there!! Amazing. Much love 🖤
@@emmason8237 I must admit that I was kinda late to the Nightwish party. As you can tell from the profile pic, which itself is several years in the past, I grew up with the tail end of the hippies, my parents being amongst the last of 'em, I was a regular at Glastonbury, Castle Donington, the great places to rock out in the late 70s and early 80s. Knebworth for the reunion gig of Deep Purple Mk 2, Floyd many times, also Iron Maiden, Motorhead, too many others to count while being lucky enough, through family connections to the folk and folk/rock world, to meet amazing artists on a social basis too. I was actually introduced to Nightwish by my son, and they had me after one listen. I'm afraid I used my industry connections quite shamelessly to blag tickets to Wacken. It was TOTALLY worth it
i have heard this song, particularly this performance more than 100 times and I'm still mesmerized, get goosebumps and headbang to it like the first time.
I see a trend here.. Opera Singers turn Vocal Coaches turn RUclipsr reactors and ends up as metal heads. And I love it. You should watch Floors duet with Henk Port, performing "Phantom of the Opera" on a show called "Beste Zangers".
Nick, you have no idea how deep of a rabbit hole you’ve just dived into. Floor has been singing since she was 16 years old. Been in three bands and sings from growling to pure opera. She is classically trained. He can sing multiple languages. Oh and head bang while pregnant. I’m 62 years old and can’t get enough of her voice. Check out her RUclips channel to get a real insight to all she has done. Great source.
@@FirstIsa Marko made his first album with his band "Tarot" in 1986 (Nightwish is, in his own words, "a fun little side project") and was an exceptional vocalist even back then, I rate him among the best of all time of any genre, the top bunch that cannot be put in any specific order because they are all so good. Marko and Floor singing together is phenomenal.
No, Floor is not classically trained. Please stop misinforming people. Floor did only one year because of her interest in the vocal technique. In her own words, I never really liked pure classical singing.
Hello Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. They are from Finland. And they make Symphonic Metal. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. There were 82,000 people there. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army. Greetings from the Netherlands.
When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RUclips. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RUclips in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.
@@markbinfield7928 Their famous encounter with the cigar/whisky and Panthera was in 2016 when Revamp was on their last tour before disbanding as Floor could not combine the two bands any longer.
Welcome to the symphonic metal world! I loved your reaction. It was very genuine and fun to watch. Yes, you just had your first "floorgasm" as I did when I first watched this performance. Please, follow the recommendations Nightwish army has left for you. You have an interesting voice and can't wait to check your singing voice. ❤
Watching pro singers react to GLS never gets old ❤ probably said in other comments but while most of the band members are Finnish, our Valkyrie is Dutch. And the scientific word we use for being Floored is a Floorgasm 😊 you will enjoy her recent itw with Elizabeth from the Charismatic Voice. Great vocal performances of hers include Yours is am Empty Hope and Sancta Terra together with (another symphonic metal band) Epica!
For those who are wondering: The Dutch unisex name "Floor" is (despite similar pronunciation) unrelated to the English word 'floor' for the bottom of a room. It's a short form of either "Flora", which is the Latin name for the Roman godess of flowers, or "Floris/Florentinus"(the male version) which comes from the Latin word for 'blooming'/'flowering'. As thus, the name is equivalent to the French name "Fleur",the English name "Florence", and the German name "Florian".
@@emmavandedonk3215... actually, Pippis is right starting that "Floortje" has a connotation with flower. It's a regional derivation of and related to Fleur or Fleurtje.
@@emmavandedonk3215 A Dutch girl whose name was Floortje explained it like that. That it's basically flower and the ending is a diminutive form of the word, thus lite flower. After googling this it seems to be correct, except I guess the "floor" part comes from Latin (or Latin names rather) and not Dutch - although the name is Dutch. For a moment I thought that maybe she and her name were flemish, but that wasn't it.
I have filmed 3 more Nightwish videos - stay tuned for their release! I post every Sunday morning. Hit the bell icon next to subscribe and you will get notified when I post next ♥️
Great video and I love your reaction. Check also the young Floor Jansen : After Forever - Monolith Of Doubt (Kopspijkers). You will be amazed what she already was doing in her early years.
Floor is not just singing, she's letting something from the Divine pass thru her 🎉 And she's opening her throat so widely because the Divine decided to send something HUGE to us ❤
I grew up with classical music. My wife introduced me to serious rock, subsequent to which I found metal, and then symphonic metal on my own. I've listened to classical long enough (I'm 77) to for lo these past many years seeking out obscure but wonderful composers (Havergal Brian, Charles Tournemeire, Atterberg, Bantock, etc.) who never get played in the U.S. Nightwish is the nearest clean, genuine synthesis of symphonic and rock that I've come across. I've seen a lot of the greats (Queen, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, etc.) but Nightwish is my all-time favorite band. Tuomas Holopainen is not a songwriter: he's a composer. When you get to "The Greatest Show on Earth" (and you will), pay particular attention to the outro.
I'd recommend Avantasia. Their first two Albums (the Metal Opera I & II) are a testament to Tobias Sammet's ability as a composer, and the first song from The metal Opera II could very easily have been an absolute mess given the number of people involved (8 vocalist and I think 9 instrumentals) but instead they work together to basically summarize the story of the first album like you just came back from a long shows intermission.
@@andypullin4702 Wembley, not Tampere. Tampere may have fireworks, but both the recording and the music are slightly weak compared to Wembley, particularly Troy's virtuouso performance with the Ebow. And of course Wembley has professor Dawkins, who was the inspiration for the entire tour. There is no beating that.
People who are less familiar with metal music often don't realise that there are tons of stylistic sub-genres within the larger metal category. And harsher vocal styles can distract some listeners from what are often very intricate musical arrangements of these songs. Metal is heavily influenced by traditional classical music: chords, progressions, and compositional structures. There's a documentary called 'Metal: A Headbanger's Journey' that goes over metal history and culture really well, and includes footage from Wacken festival. It's also not uncommon for metal vocalists, including Floor, to have received very solid classical training. Symphonic metal, like Nightwish, can be very surprising to first time listeners, who don't expect to hear something so orchestral and beautiful coexisting with - and even emphasised by - the more intense drumming and electric guitar. Tuomas is very much a virtuoso composer, and every member of the band is a hugely talented performer. You expressed some shock at the vocals being so immaculate in this performance; check out one of their live performances of 'Shoemaker' to have your mind blown again at Floor's technique.
Nobody in Nightwish ever stands around on the stage like a spare part. If they aren't playing or singing right now, they leave the stage. Focus is always on the music. And what you felt on that final note - we call that a Floorgasm. I'm happy to assert that symphonic metal is the most complete musical style. You have to be able to play and sing anything - any weakness will be exposed. Floor can sing anything from the gentlest folk to operatic, and then full metal scream and growl. It attracts the smartest audiences too.
Also it's a historical callback. An "epic" song where, in the middle, the band pretend to walk off as a backing-track plays - where have we seen that before?
Please bear in mind that this was written during the Tarja era who you heard sing Phantom of the Opera recently. The final belts were added by Floor as she felt something was missing. This was the 13th song of 15 at the concert and every song written for previous singers, Tarja (1996-2005 operatic) and Anette ( 2007-2012 pop).
Floor is from Holland and is a singing teacher among other things. that's why she's so good, it's one of my favorite songs and performances. Good channel! Bravo!
When this was recorded Floor had been the replacement singer of Nightwish för just about 10 months. She did her first show in Seattle Wa on Oct 1st 2012 after the band fired Anette, their second singer. This was recorded Aug.3rd 2013. This song wasn't on the set list for the tour originally since Anette didn't have the vocal ability to perform it. But Floor had heard the song when her first band After Forever" toured with Nightwish when Tarja, their first singer, was still in the band, and she loved it. So Floor asked Tuomas (the guy behind the keyboards) if they could make it a part of the set list. And they did, it was song number 13 of a 15 song set. There's som minor variations in the backing between Floors and Tarjas version, mainly that the choir have been reduced in volume. There's a video on youtube from, I think, Argentina, recorded Dec15th 2012. And there's one of Tarja doing it too. If you want to know more about how Floor got in to the band I can recommend a documentary, also here on RUclips called "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours" Oh, Tuomas keyboard stand is a tribute to a Sibelius statue in Helsinki, Finland. And it's very handy to hide a bottle of wine in too.
I'd like to add that Tuomas isn't just the keyboard player. He's THE founding member of the band and the songwriter as well. He's apparently fairly particular about how the songs he writes should sound. (Though the sound can differ between singers of course.) So there is some difficulty for the other band members. But he's still the one that started it all. And likely the true core of the band.
This comment is great. Context matters. And when you look at the context, this performance becomes all that more impressive. I've always considered this live show as Floor's coming out party. While it would not be official for several more months, everyone "knew" Nightwish had found their new lead singer. I'll second the recommendation on "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours"
@@cleanshavedad The real coming out party was the video of this song mentioned above from Buenos Aires (I think). Emppu has a Floorgasm during the song. It might be the most amazing concert cut I have ever seen.
I was smiling all the way through not just because I love and have listened to Nightwish since I was a teenager but for your reaction. I was so happy for you! I always had goosebumps listening to this and I loved you got it too. Welcome to the symphonic metal family 😊
Best reaction to GLS that I've seen in a very long time! Nice to see you trying desperately to keep your "analyzing face" in shape, while you're clearly and progressively surrendering to Floor's spell. You mentioned the hard work that goes into this kind of singing. Indeed, for the majority of great singers, the unseen hours of training are essential. And for sure, Floor is a total vocal nerd and "hard work" doesn't begin to describe her dedication tt craft. That is NOT the key to her greatness though. Floor is a once in a generation (or many generations) 100% pure natural talent. Much of that is simply in her genes/physique which equips her with some great vocal weapons in her arsenal. Same raw natural talent can be seen/heard in her sister, Irene Jansen (no vocal training, stellar voice). Floor has a vocal tract others can only dream of. Her use of resonance (formants) is what provides the sound produced by her vocal folds with a richness and timbre to just die for. She was well under 20yrs old when her level of singing was already way beyond the level reached by most with a lifetime of very hard work. In short: no amount of vocal training could ever "make" a Floor Jansen, only her parents could do that (twice!) 😉
Let's talk about Floor's stage presence and how like a true Valkyrie she literally commands the crowd! Those people would follow her and her band every where!!
The "Metropool orkest + Nightwish: black Symphony" a MUST HAVE HEARD!👌👌👌.....and....... Floor Jansen + Henk Poort singing: The Phantom of the opera..... You'll get goose bumbs as you've never had before!!!
Love your reaction. Just discovered Nightwish about a year ago. How are they not the biggest band in the world? If there is such a thing as the Perfect song, I believe this is it! And Nightwish has about 25 other songs that are among the best songs I have ever heard! Amazing!
I HIGHLY recommend their latest single "Lanternlight" from their newly(yesterday) released Album "Yesterwynde" Its especially a song about the guy on the keyboard Tuomas, who is also known as the "Metal-Mozart", and that for a reason ! Tuomas writes, composes and arranges everything, including the orchestral parts, played by a real orchestra of course. Floor in this one is simply....otherworldy, i really cant describe it otherwise. Tuomas melodies, harmonys and lyrics performed by Floor and Troy are for me, actually their best work, just unbelievable.
This is the reaction video I was waiting for!! A knowledgeable artist that appreciates the entirety of Floor’s talent and power. You could put into words many special things about the performance, but your facial expressions said even more! There are just two artists that make me cry when I listen to them: one is Maria Callas, the one and only!! And the other is Floor Jansen, the one and only!! It was great watching you fall in love with her, just like the rest of us! Congratulations on your first Floorgasm! Thanks for this great video!! ❤
Floor has done a type of reaction video of this performance, in which she talks about her approach and how she felt. Watch it it's very moving, interesting and it has a funny moment 😊
That's the first time I've heard about Nightwish and I'm as gobsmacked as you are ! I really enjoyed it :) I do appreciate the fact that you are able to consider technique and hard work outside of classical music. Each kind of music as its own distinctive features and its own beauty. :) But as you, I'm still a big fan of classical music, but not only :)
I'm telling you, as she hits the end - I can't breath. I find myself holding my breath, and then when she hits it, I can't help it, the tears come out. It is just so beautiful. I am so glad you watched this and gave your feedback too.
I admire your steely self-control. I'm a 2 meter tall, 45 year old man and for me the tears start rolling at the first note leaving her mouth. Every time.
Nightwish were my first metal band in 2007, I’ve been a big fan since. It’s so nice to watch your reactions - like I love this band so I know they are fantastic, but then experienced people explain you WHY they are special😂
Floor's entire body supports her singing. Look at her stance, legs apart, planted, grounded. And then, there at the very end, she raises her arm up and out. A good technique as far as stage presence, yes, but it also expands her chest to its fullest, to give her the extra umph (highly technical term 😉) that she needs to produce that amazing note, at the end of a 10 minute song no less. Nightwish is a band that is worth exploring more, for sure. It's not just Floor, as you mentioned, it's this extremely tight, highly talented band that makes this one unit. You will get many more suggestions on Nightwish songs. And they will all be worth exploring. I'm going to diverge slightly because I think you will find that there are many superb front women in the symphonic metal field. One I would suggest that you take a look at is the band Epica and their front woman Simone Simmons. Based on your background, I think that a good starting place with this band would be the song "Rivers". The version, with the group Apocalyptica at the AFAS Live. Epica is, as is Nightwish, many faceted. This song is a good introduction, but not, by any means, all that this group is capable of.
The "pipes" are the surround for three keyboards, a backing track controller, some SPFX triggers, a bottle or two of red wine and they used to shoot fireworks! Tuomas Holopainen on keyboards, composer, arranger, co-conductor, lyicist.... - THE Metal Mozart! 82,000 people at this concert in Wacken, Northern Germany - usually only 2000 people live there! Nightwish Army, Blue Mountains Corps, Australia. Nightwish since 1996. edit: I loved the way you explained what you meant regarding vocal techinique in an understandable manner! Another vocal exercise in a song by Floor in "Romanticide" from this concert - G3 -D6 gliss and BACK! Yes, you were Floor-ed and had a Floorgasm or two! Jukka Nevalainen on drums, Emppu Vuorinen on rythym and lead guitar, Marko Hietala on bass and (BTS for this clip) Troy Donockley - multi-instrumentalist (he can't play hockey - and that's about it!) edit: PPS ! Check out the band Epica - their sister band. "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" and "Sancta Terra" LIVE - with a guest or two! ;)
This one time I didn't listen and looked at Floor, but I was fascinated and captivaded by you! Your words, surprise, expression, smile, amazement. That's a huge compliment. I would really love for you to post more responses to Nightwish. Yes please….Thank You!
I love watching people's first reaction to this song. It is always a case of listening to the comments made and thinking "hehehe, just wait, just wait...."
124 Spider here. Floor Jansen / Nightwish FAN. Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. In March 2023 she launched her first Pop solo album "Paragon". THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD.
Good comment, just letting you know it's THrash Metal. From thrashing, like wildly beating (the instruments). Not trash that belongs in a garbage bin. Although some people might think that. 😉 And Aria, not Arya; she's from Game of Thrones. 😁
Hahaha, always great to see someone (whether classically schooled, a metal head or what not) being confronted with Ghost Love Score and the amazing presence of Floor 😀👍🏻

Soft-mixing of symphonic music with rock is even older (for instance, Rainbow's version of Beethoven's 9th ruclips.net/video/sDECHC2T3LE/видео.html in 1981). Strictly speaking of metal, the first well-know blend of a symphonic orchestra might be Metallica's concert of 1991 (ruclips.net/video/YpoHBTeyFxg/видео.html). But that was a late arrangement. The first designed usage of female classical singing as ingredient of metal songs might be Therion in the mid 90's (learn more here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Therion_(band)). In the 90's most of it was gothic metal: Female-fronted bands Like Nightwish, Tristania, After Forever (Floor's first band) led the pack. Then others like Dimmu Borgir, Evanescence, Epica, Within Temptation, etc followed suit. The genre has solidified, expanded and evolved from the gothic seed into more a canonically symphonic sound. After knowing Floor you might want to try... ...early examples of pure symphonic metal: - Epica's "Cry for the Moon" (live in studio 2003): ruclips.net/video/2rAFRnahGtY/видео.html&pp=ygUWZXBpY2EgY3J5IGZvciB0aGUgbW9vbg%3D%3D, - After Forever's "Monolith of Doubt" (live): ruclips.net/video/3TmKHkQx45U/видео.html&pp=ygUlYWZ0ZXIgZm9yZXZlciBtb25vbGl0aCBvZiBkb3VidCBsaXZlIA%3D%3D - Therion's "To Mega Therion" (live at a metal festival in 2001): ruclips.net/video/L-RGxhg6psUi/видео.htmls ...examples of the foundational gothic metal sound/vibe: - Cradle of Fith's "Nymphetamine Fix" (official video) ruclips.net/video/6dW6aNAZGTM/видео.html&pp=ygUZY3JhZGxlIGZpbHRoIG55bXBoZXRhbWluZQ%3D%3D - Tristania's "My Lost Lenore" (live in 1991) ruclips.net/video/dSKaqP1iU_I/видео.html. and there's a huge wide world of metal to discover beyond symphonic metal. But I guess for you that should come after a nice bath in symphonic.
She was a voice coach back when you were born approximately. She is 43 now, a cancer surviver and mother of 2 kids, one husband and lots of animals. So much I could sat, but her favourite vocalist is Freddie Mercury, and I see alot of his type of persona in her. She is quiet and dignified off stage. On stage she pure slays.
Live in the Ziggo Dome or on the Beste Zangers? Both with Henk, obviously. I'd go for the beste zangers version with the intro talk as that shows how much of a fangirl she was/is for Henk
This version is the best: "Floor Jansen - Vilja Lied (2019) + intro and outro (With eng subtitles)". Her subsequent performances all listed on that channel.
There's something to be said about watching someone's reaction to hearing a piece for the first time and SEEING the emotion on their face as they feel it from the music. *Shivers*
That face @5:23 is the moment you see him fall in love, the expression directly changes and it's the most beautiful thing to see on another human being
Floor Jansen solo is also interesting. You could check out her performances on a Dutch show called 'Beste zangers (Best singers) 2019'. I enjoy all of her perfornances here. I think 'Shallow' is a good start of 'Beste zangers 2019'. The people in there are all singers. There are no judges. It's about singing, not getting points
The BZ2019 versions to look for are the "intro/outro" English subbed ones, with the singers talking before and after the song. Adds a great deal of fun/context. First one, especially for Nick as an opera singer, should of course be: "Floor Jansen - Vilja Lied (2019) + intro and outro (With eng subtitles)".
Fun point about this. Floor was brought in as an emergency fill mid-tour. This was filmed only months later as part of that tour. I don't think she was even a permanent member of the band at the time this video was recorded. There are versions of this song recorded weeks apart and you can see she and the band were still tinkering with the arrangement. The song was written for Tarja and Floor was bringing a different feel to it, so it was changing to accommodate her. Yeah, it isn't even her song, but you'd never know it because holy hell does she nail it. Technique, style, range, emotion and performance, she nails it all. I've heard it hundreds of times and inevitably still have that 'Floorgasm' reaction to the instrumental, vocal and emotional shifts, building to that stunning peak. The band is releasing a new album, and in one interview the composer/keyboardist, Tuomas, said they scheduled 2 weeks of studio time to lay down Floor's tracks. She was wrapped in 4 days. He says that she did her homework, knew the material, knew the background and emotionality the songs called for, knew how she was going to phrase it and banged it out track after track. Valkyrie.
Hi! I'm just here to say: please do more reactions to Nightwish and to more metal bands, you'll discover how much great singers and beautiful songs there is :)
Great reaction!! youre right Floor almost impressed herself with that final note, i heard her say it gerself, at that moment she knew she nailed it all, and you can see that on her face. This voncert was where Dloor should impress the fans, as it was first bigger concert, with her as vocal, and after this show, she was the Valkyrie Queen, the fans loved her. Also this was her favorite Nightwish song, at this time.. she knew this songs lyrics even before she was part of the band. Tuomas the keyboard player, compose 99% of it all, he is the masterming behind composing, and writing Nightwish songs, and the whole band is talented, and exrvute hes work on stage to perfection. Nightwisj is simply a amazing band, and Tuomas is my musical hero.. Btw, you just reacted to the most reacted song on youtube ever!!

Your pronunciation is correct at the beginning. She's a Dutch singer. You should hear her sing The Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort (performed in a Dutch TV show 'The best singer'.
I had her 2 meters away from me, in the recital, when nightwish came to argentina to present this album, she is so powerful, she doesn't need a mic, i heard her directly over the amplifiers, she sounds exactly like that, she is the best power metal singer in the world.

Yes its live. I was there and totally hooked as soon as i heard Floor which was at Wacken the first time and was blown away. That is just crazy
Floor is definitely a phenomenon that I can appreciate.
yes, it is live in 2013 in Wacken, Germany. Can't believe this is already more than ten years ago.
Oh, and none of those 15 songs were written when she was in the band.
Yes and she didn't fell that great because of flu.
About 20 years ago, maybe longer, i went to a festival where Floor preformed with the band After Forever.

It was one of the most memorable moments I've ever had on a festival.

About the only singer I can say for sure is more Versatile would be Yannis Papadopoulos but from what I can find on line his actual vocal range is A1-E♭6. Hearing him sing Black Night for Warrior Path, and then jumping to Bind and Frozen from Beast in Black. @@dropshot1967 And it was painful….
She nailed it and created magic that night and i still love watching the concert video 11 years later.

First Floorgasms are fun to watch as well.
There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’
Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band.
I saw Sabaton open for Nightwish on tour, back in 2015. Wonder if that tour was when she and her husband met.
@@markbinfield7928 Their famous encounter with the cigar/whisky and Panthera was in 2016 when Revamp was on their last tour before disbanding as Floor could not combine the two bands any longer.

Or just "flower". A knew a Dutch girl whose name was Floortje, "little flower".
@@Pippis78 actually, the dutch word for flower is 'bloem '. Floor is just simply a name in Dutch, it does not have a specific meaning.
Or Florence

You will like dutch Ayreon too I think. Floor performed on several albums and in the Ayreon Universe live concert.
And now "the poet and the pendulum" live at Wembley. That finally blows you off your chair
Followed by "The Greatest Show On Earth" live from Tampere 😊
@@andypullin4702 Yes of course
It's not time for that yet, there is a path to those songs.
The first album I bought and didn’t get off limewire was Dark Passion Play. My parents have no gaydar, but there were signs.
Yes, it's definitly live. I could see them live 2 years after. Phenomenal !!!!!
Most important, Metal (all Genres, it is the very essence of Metal) has a classical musical structure, not a rock structure.
Then compare the live version to the studio version, and try to choose.
Would you say that Jinjer's Pisces or Kamelot's Liar, Liar is a better introduction to harsh vocals?
Credit to Tuomas Holopainen, the Metal Mozart, for composing this timeless masterpiece!
IMO the worlds greatest female singing voice

Tarja was more like an Angel, flying above the symphon... great, but untouchable.

If you want to know more about how Floor got in to the band I can recommend a documentary, also here on RUclips called "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours"
Oh, Tuomas keyboard stand is a tribute to a Sibelius statue in Helsinki, Finland.
AMEN 🙏
Let's talk about Floor's stage presence and how like a true Valkyrie she literally commands the crowd! Those people would follow her and her band every where!!
The "Metropool orkest + Nightwish: black Symphony" a MUST HAVE HEARD!👌👌👌.....and.......
Floor Jansen + Henk Poort singing: The Phantom of the opera..... You'll get goose bumbs as you've never had before!!!
Black Symphony is Within Temptation
"I wouldn't necessarily call myself a huge metal fan" oh my sweet summer child 🤣
let's see how long it takes him to go from Floor to Will Ramos :D
Welcome to the Army you will be issued hour leather pants in the armoury.
Floor Jansen the Dutch goddess of metal ❤❤
Hello From German Division RLP
Love your reaction. Just discovered Nightwish about a year ago. How are they not the biggest band in the world? If there is such a thing as the Perfect song, I believe this is it! And Nightwish has about 25 other songs that are among the best songs I have ever heard! Amazing!
Nick, you really, really need to watch "Floor Jansen & Henk Poort Phantom of the Opera", I promise you'll love it.
He Really should, I totally agree❤
Yes,yes,yes!!!!!!!
Came here to say this!
@nickhiggsthesinger did you check this out? Really worth it!
Or the Vilja Song, from Die Lustige Witwe, by Franz Lehar. Metal style!
Thousands of people are listening to this song all the time and they still experience it as if it is new.
I listen to this performance at least every week. It's pure magic.
Have watched 200 plus of these reactions…yours was in the top 5 imo….you were self deprecating and expertly informative… a great combo, many thx….
I can't recall how many times I have heard this performance, and it just moves me every time!
I think we have just watched the birth of another Nightwish fan! Welcome, and great reaction!
You had the same "floorgasm" I had when I was in this audience. Their performance really was something else.
You should contact Floor for a interview.. She often agrees to participate in talks with reactors/fans.
I HIGHLY recommend their latest single "Lanternlight" from their newly(yesterday) released Album "Yesterwynde"
Its especially a song about the guy on the keyboard Tuomas, who is also known as the "Metal-Mozart", and that for a reason !
La de lágrimas que e derramado escuchando Lanternlight.
There’s a channel Wings of Pegasus where he runs this performance through a bunch of audio equipment and proves she is just this good.
Indeed!
Floor has done a type of reaction video of this performance, in which she talks about her approach and how she felt. Watch it it's very moving, interesting and it has a funny moment 😊
I concur.
I just watched Floors own reaction before this one. She gives me the floorgasm every time she starts this song.
You'd be surprised about the beauty and incredible voices in metal. Welcome to the club, you'll love it here.
Floor can sing anything she wants…and it’s all amazing. Growling to classical/opera. And she is a beautiful person inside and out.
"Stabat Mater Dolorosa" and "Sancta Terra" LIVE - with a guest or two! ;)
Nightwish Army Sydney checking in
This one time I didn't listen and looked at Floor, but I was fascinated and captivaded by you!
@@prince_julius I thought I'de changed, as you once tell me 🤣
@@124Spider5 Oh really? Haha. :D
Hahaha, always great to see someone (whether classically schooled, a metal head or what not) being confronted with Ghost Love Score and the amazing presence of Floor 😀👍🏻
the Floor´s natural journey reaction:
- the greatest show on earth (wembley arena tampere concert 2015)
- storytime (same concert as Ghost Love Score)
- EPICA + FLOOR JANSEN "Sancta Terra" 10th aniversary of EPICA
- EPICA + FLOOR JANSEN "Stabat mater dolorosa" (same concert)
- REVAMP "Disdain" (the previous band to Nightwish)
_FLOOR JANSEN AND HENK POORT "the phantom of the opera" BesteZangers
just in case I miss please add more below
The greatest show on earth is not from the same concert but mostly shown from the Wembley Arena concert or the Tampere concert in 2015.
@@bertkoopman8084 thanks
Lanternlight, the closing track on their new album. Makes me cry every time.
The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley 2015)
I so love it when new people discover Nightwish and Floor, especially when they are proficient about music themselves and can really appreciate it 😊
I envy every member of the audience for experiencing this live
Can you PLEASE fill me in on any additional information on Floor Jansen, Nightwish, or Symphonic Metal?!
Go to Gabriel Bardac's community page on his youtube channel. Also Floor Jansen has her own youtube channel.
Please do a video on Floor Jansen and Henk Poort's performance of Phantom of the Opera on the program called Beste Zangers, I'm sure you'll love it

After knowing Floor you might want to try...
...early examples of pure symphonic metal:
- Epica's "Cry for the Moon" (live in studio 2003): ruclips.net/video/2rAFRnahGtY/видео.html&pp=ygUWZXBpY2EgY3J5IGZvciB0aGUgbW9vbg%3D%3D,
- After Forever's "Monolith of Doubt" (live): ruclips.net/video/3TmKHkQx45U/видео.html&pp=ygUlYWZ0ZXIgZm9yZXZlciBtb25vbGl0aCBvZiBkb3VidCBsaXZlIA%3D%3D
- Therion's "To Mega Therion" (live at a metal festival in 2001): ruclips.net/video/L-RGxhg6psUi/видео.htmls
...examples of the foundational gothic metal sound/vibe:
- Cradle of Fith's "Nymphetamine Fix" (official video) ruclips.net/video/6dW6aNAZGTM/видео.html&pp=ygUZY3JhZGxlIGZpbHRoIG55bXBoZXRhbWluZQ%3D%3D
- Tristania's "My Lost Lenore" (live in 1991) ruclips.net/video/dSKaqP1iU_I/видео.html.
and there's a huge wide world of metal to discover beyond symphonic metal.
Just remember, you asked for it, might want to cancel any appointments you have next week 😂
Please Please Please keep on reacting to floor/nightwish. This is only the tip of the iceberg!!!!!!
I love how he's not just focused on Floor but alsoon the poetry and brilliance of Tuomas's lyrics.
Oh Floor singing the phantom of the opera. That is the one to do next.
m.ruclips.net/video/plCScjvDOJM/видео.html absolutely!
Live in the Ziggo Dome or on the Beste Zangers? Both with Henk, obviously.
I'd go for the beste zangers version with the intro talk as that shows how much of a fangirl she was/is for Henk
@@Sharky762 both 😂😂
Want to her in full opera go to vilja lied. Nightwish army Denmark reporting in 🤘
vilja lied is operetta. For full-blown opera there's a video of Floor singing Puchini's "Oh, mio bambino caro"
*Shivers*
Possibly the most controlled soprano voice in the world. Absolute perfection!
You pronounce her name the right way. It is really live, no autotune.
yup, just like what you are standing on ... the "Floor"
Or 4 with an L
That face @5:23 is the moment you see him fall in love, the expression directly changes and it's the most beautiful thing to see on another human being
Floor Jansen solo is also interesting. You could check out her performances on a Dutch show called 'Beste zangers (Best singers) 2019'. I enjoy all of her perfornances here. I think 'Shallow' is a good start of 'Beste zangers 2019'. The people in there are all singers. There are no judges. It's about singing, not getting points
Is he ready for that?
The BZ2019 versions to look for are the "intro/outro" English subbed ones, with the singers talking before and after the song. Adds a great deal of fun/context. First one, especially for Nick as an opera singer, should of course be: "Floor Jansen - Vilja Lied (2019) + intro and outro (With eng subtitles)".
Considering where he comes from the classical side) I'd say Vilja lied as first experience instead of Shallow.
Yes, definitely, Vilja and Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort
Valkyrie.
Nick, if you liked this, check out Epica featuring Floor Jansen, Sancta Terra and Floor Jansen and Simone Simons Stabat Mater dolorosa.
@@jwfd1976 I concur!!!
Hi! I'm just here to say: please do more reactions to Nightwish and to more metal bands, you'll discover how much great singers and beautiful songs there is :)
So, The Charismatic Voice just dropped an interview with Floor Jansen. You might get a few answers from that interview.

There's a Nightwish Army Wisconsin Chapter? I had no idea there was such a thing. How does one become a member?? I'm an interested Wisconsinite! 32:02
@@revfrschneider just a NightWish fan from Wisconsin. Because NightWish fans are called the Army, I use the term Chapter.
Your pronunciation is correct at the beginning. She's a Dutch singer. You should hear her sing The Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort (performed in a Dutch TV show 'The best singer'.
Oh yes, absolutely!
You should absolutely listen to that performance, it’s goosebumps all over!! ❤
I had her 2 meters away from me, in the recital, when nightwish came to argentina to present this album, she is so powerful, she doesn't need a mic, i heard her directly over the amplifiers, she sounds exactly like that, she is the best power metal singer in the world.
