  • Selecting the correct bearing size could be confusing. In this video, Rachel makes the process easy. She shows where to measure and how to match your crankshaft up to the correct size rod bearings and main bearings. The chart shown is for an International C152 engine (Farmall H, W-4, O-4 and I-4 Tractors).

You sound like you studied mechanical engineering and you truly understand what you are saying rather being a voice actor who reads a script. Excellent!!!

As always, a very straight forward professional video. What shop wouldn't be head over heals to have such talent. That said, precise measurements are somewhat intimidating to novices. As such, I'd recommend you include taking actual measurements in your videos. While professionals are comfortable in dealing with thousandths of an inch, many if not most weekend mechanics aren't used to do doing so and may feel it is beyond their capabilities. Showing the proper use of micrometers, calipers and feeler gauges in your videos would help assure them.

@@neville132bbk For most of us, we keep measuring tools in inch and metric. For these old US and Brit tractors, it is inches.

I did not measure my crankshaft but machine shop lightly worked the journals to achieve smoothness, cylinders were de-glazed not exactly bored, surface was cut a minimum pass, not much and i installed standard sizes for all components; I am wondering if the engine will run ok when start and if I would not destroy it.

And with that explanation, I am now positive that I will not be removing the main caps...because I won't be removing the crank...because I won't be removing the engine. The only thing I want to remove, well, the main thing I want to remove is that un-holy intarnation knock.
So only the rod bearings...So now, how do I figure what size I need?
This works for other engines...the math, not your chart...
Okay, the math your chart follows...and what you explained.
Yes. This actually is the first video that bothered to explain in detail, with an example yet.
So I should measure the crank at each rod and find the original specifications and subtract the original from...no, the current from the original. And that should do it...I hope.

I seem to be a couple years behind of the rest.
I wonder if Scotty Kilmer knows. He is pretty knowledgeable about engines.
... I think he's had too much coffee before his videos.

Always measure crank journals in two places 90° apart.
    Use a quality micrometer.
Starrett or Mititoyo Browne Sharpe etc.
Also always chamfer radius oil holes smooth on all journals.

When you are tearing down your motor a quick check with plastic guage will tell you what wear the crank journals have. Then you will have some direction where the overhaul is going and an idea of oil clearance.
