I spent the last year helping out a friend in the home restoration/construction business, he was overwhelmed with work, with very few qualified workers, yet his two daughters (both teenagers), and his wife, were out there, framing walls, hanging/taping drywall, repairing roofs, pulling/installing cables, digging trenches, painting, tiling, the whole nine yards (including laying foundations)...it was a joy to work with them...a great family...

@Terri Fenrich she appears to be doing work to me. Her narration is naturally spoken and does not appear to be from a script. She does seem to be in the sales department so turning wrenches likely isn't her primary job but I have seen nothing to indicate she isn't capable. They aren't as good looking but capable.
I don't need to nit pick to show my knowledge and feel better about my shelf, I have done this on engines before so you did great and keep up the good work your doing!
Boy, great to see someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to repairing old farm machinery. Writing from Australia, we have an old International Super AWD6 tractor in the shed that hasnt had a spanner on the motor since new and still starts with the glow plugs. God help us the day it doesnt start as these modern day mechanics are stuffed without a computer to plug into the machine. Young Lady , you did a fantastic job and presentation. You taught me alot, Thankyou.

Great video! Well done, very informative and professional. I rebuilt the engine in my H about 1989.I did not have a computer and computers did not have you tube at that time IIRC, LOL! Good mechanic friend saved my bacon and helped me git'r done. Had to chuckle about your sleeve puller. We did just about exactly the same way -- Buddy Byron cut the disk out with a torch. Did not have to grind to final fit-it was ready to go. The puller tool is still in the "resource" pile. Found one sleeve that was not a very tight fit upon installation. Talked to an old school mechanic at the IH dealer. Suggested spraying high solid high temp aluminum exhaust spray paint on the liner then stuff it in while still wet. This tractor is still running fine after all these years. Built in june 1943 it is used extensively every winter as my primary snow plow tractor and skidding logs in summer.

I don't have a tractor, but the basics of the tractor engine are the same as my classic car, so am learning from here, well made and edited video, very knowledgeable mechanic, explains the steps really well. keep em coming.
Decent starting point for an engine refresh. When honing the bores some kind of lube such as trans fluid or 10 weight motor oil should be used. Also after grinding the valve seats, the new valves need to be lapped in to make sure they seal.
Doug Hibbard ... The bores she honed aren't for the pistons to operate inside. They are for the dry sleeves, and as such, lubricants would create extra cleaning necessitated to remove all the oil afterward. She was going for minimum residue in the bores, vs a nice crosshatch to retain oil film.
@@JW...-oj5iw I understand that however the lube isn't for the cross hatch but it's to help suspend the material being removed to prevent gouging and also increase the life of her stones. Cleans off very easily with brake cleaner. I used to do a lot of 8N resleeves when I was running an engine machine shop. I've built many ranging from single cylinder to industrial diesel engines.
Enjoyed this Soo much. Loved the Dyno test. Also thought the oil weight explation was necessary. Engine oil has come a long way since that ole girl was born.👍
When you hone any pressure lubricated engine with the crankshaft still in it, wrap black tape around the journals will keep metal out of the oil holes.
Also bonding 3 different degree settings would give a better flow in and out of thechambers especially if you are putting in the raised heads. Am I the only one that does this?
how absolutely refreshing to have a non male engine rebuild video. I haven't yet watched the video but I am looking forward to it as it is something rarely heard of or seen on the interwebz, thank you!
Great host. These old farmalls are the most reliable tractors I have ever driven. My family owned a handful of different models like the M, super M, H, etc. they friggin always work unlike even brand new tractors we rented or bought. I am hesitant to agree that anything was "built better back in the day" but I will admit, these tractors are pretty indestructible, granted they are not as much HP nor have as much tech/complexity so naturally they will have an advantage.
I always use a little dab of grease on the keepers to keep them stuck to the valves.... helps avoid the pinched finger when you release the spring compressor.
I play video games, I do IT work and am an Engineer, I still sat thru this completely enthralled.. you never know when I might need to fix someone else's tractor.
Rachel. This has to be one of your best ever videos. Everything was clear, precise and very well explained. A thoroughly professional job. I loved how you managed to do the whole job without getting your lovely blue shirt too dirty. I also liked how you tied back your beautiful blonde hair back when necessary. Can't wait for your next video.

You make it look so easy..My granddaughter Danielle is wanting to go to VoTech for farm eguipment and maintenance..We all love the instruction you provide..ROSS & DANIELLE
I rebuilt my first engine when I was about 10. That was 60 years ago, and I've built plenty since. Lately I am watching these engine rebuild videos. Now many of you may find this impossible to imagine, but back in the day we CLEANED THINGS A LOT. No one would ever put the rocker assy back on anything without taking 20 minutes to at least degrunge it. We cleaned things because all kinds of dirt comes loose when you work in the engine. THe crap in the bottom of the pan will come loose. All kinds of crap embedded in the grunge on those rockers WILL come loose and wash into the new oil leaving you with a ton of crap to filter out. What I have noticed is, like this girlie, most rebuilders today never appear to even think about washing anything. In engine work cleanliness is utterly mandatory. She stresses that the new sleeves wont go into a dirty hole. Yippee. But every part she's taken out is a source of potentially abrasive metal bits, carbon, silicates from air that's not clean...microscopic stuff that you don't want in your engine. CLEAN THINGS A LOT and you will rebuild that thing a lot less often.
This. so this. Also checking ring gap. I'm that guy that will blueprint everything. I know on farm equipment it's not as important as 6000 rpm v8's but still.
@@blargblarghonk read between the lines. she does not have time to show all that shit in thirty minutes. if you are as good as you think you why worry about it. my guess is you are talking shit!
Agreed. Cleanliness is crucial if you want to do a good job and have it last - and not leak. Along with verifying spec and wear; which she did show. I imagine there was some cleaning going on in the background that they just didn't include in the video.
Good old NO FEAR Rachel. Hooks in and gets the job done with excellent speeach and presentation. I don't think I've heard you say um yet. And I know there must be a bit of editing you can sure put out a heck of a long talk without stopping. Pleasure to watch and listen to. Best Wishes from Jeff in Emu Park Australia
Very nice video Rachel ! One of the best ,if not the best walk through on rebulding the engine being talked about if its a car, truck ,bike or what ever. Nice to see someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Subscribed!
George Womack ... She misspoke a couple times. Not the end of the world. The cover atop the head is not a tappet cover. When she spoke about generator removal, she said she would remove the bolts and push the generator forward. I was seriously eyeballing that to see how it worked. When she did it, she didn't push it forward, she pushed it inward. Again, far from the end of the world, but it was a distraction. Overall, an excellent job of demonstrating how to do an in-frame refresh. I wish she had shown an examination of the valve train operation before removing the rocker shaft. Flat cam lobes have created havoc for people in the past and probably will continue to do so until Musk replaces all IC engines.
George Womack ... Well, well, well. You are the wittiest person on the Tube. "get a life". Oooh, burn!!! That brain of yours could power a starship. "get a life". I feel like Bill Murray in Ghostbusters. "Get her!" "That was your plan?" "Get her!"
Finally, a rebuild video where the pro tip of freezing liners before installation is given...............on many engines, its the only way to get them in clean and neat with no damage.
You actually know what you are doing, there's a lot of difference between disabilities heads and Petro heads. The chamber is a different shape and size, and the compression ratio is totally different. I'm impressed with your new pistons being modern design and high quality workmanship. When I need something for my IH I'll definitely be ordering parts. Luckily I haven't had any issues beyond regular maintenance for years now.
New here. Was lead your way by one of my subscribers. I'm currently doing a full rebuild on a 1950 Farmall Super A Demonstrator and so far a few of your videos have really helped me out. I'm basically learning as I go on this project.
That is not a micrometer. It is a caliper and not as accurate measuring around a thousanth of an inch. A couple of torque specifications in the video were referenced as force in pounds; torque is a length*force or foot*pounds in this case. Great video and if I need to rebuild our Super M I know where to go for parts. Great overview. Thanks! Definitely checking out the rest of your videos.

I'm not a farmer, nor a tractor owner operator but I now know how to fix that particular tractor. Great video!
Woww... A cute girl working on a tractor!!! What could be more awesome than this??
I play video games, I do IT work and am an Engineer, I still sat thru this completely enthralled.. you never know when I might need to fix someone else's tractor.
She is totally awesome!! Totally incredible video.
I have been watching you for a few years now,, you got more talent ,than a lots guys love to watch all your videos ,,keep up the good work !!!!
Rachel. This has to be one of your best ever videos. Everything was clear, precise and very well explained. A thoroughly professional job.
I loved how you managed to do the whole job without getting your lovely blue shirt too dirty.
I also liked how you tied back your beautiful blonde hair back when necessary.
Can't wait for your next video.
colm one,,,,,,,,,very astute observations............i had the same ones.......
Does anyone else find this comment a bit creepy?
Creepy.
Your skills and knowledge are impressive! You also make a wonderful teacher.
When working with Dad or Grandpa - you paid attention!! :):)
Fantastic video Rachel. Keep up the good work.
brings back memories when i was a kid watching and helping my dad over haul engines in tractors, cars trucks . you are doing a super job. keep up the great work young lady
Great job Rachel! Thank you for sharing!
Wow simply amazing she knows her way around a tractor very helpful and also I would like to add it is really nice to see the younger generation involved in the classic tractors
This was the exact video I have been searching for! Thanks so much for taking the time and putting in the effort to make this video! I appreciate the knowledge and tutorial 🍻
You make it look so easy..My granddaughter Danielle is wanting to go to VoTech for farm eguipment and maintenance..We all love the instruction you provide..ROSS & DANIELLE
Damn girl, so what do you want on your sandwich ? You got this I'll go make myself useful :o
LMAO , wear an apron too please.
bruh she does what daddy tells her....but its not like shes dumb she knows her stuff
First time viewer here. Great job young lady. Described process well. Very enjoyable and held my interest. Love these older machines.
@@blargblarghonk read between the lines. she does not have time to show all that shit in thirty minutes. if you are as good as you think you why worry about it. my guess is you are talking shit!
doc dont worry about it . its a 21 st century youtube video!
One Thing Not Covered Was Piston Ring File Fitting Unless Not Necessary In The Kit ? 👨🏼🔧
Very nice video Rachel ! One of the best ,if not the best walk through on rebulding the engine being talked about if its a car, truck ,bike or what ever. Nice to see someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Subscribed!
Very nice to the point video excellent grammar excellent use of terms I thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed this video very knowledgeable
@@JW...-oj5iw Please.... get a life
George Womack ... Well, well, well. You are the wittiest person on the Tube. "get a life". Oooh, burn!!!
That brain of yours could power a starship. "get a life". I feel like Bill Murray in Ghostbusters. "Get her!" "That was your plan?" "Get her!"
Whatever
Finally, a rebuild video where the pro tip of freezing liners before installation is given...............on many engines, its the only way to get them in clean and neat with no damage.
Wow, just mesmerizing! Oh, and the tractor is pretty cool too. :D
Instructive video well done and interesting thank you
Wow, loved this episode, Rachel rocks, she knows her stuff and explains it so well
Your vise needs aluminum or brass covers, when the vise jaws are holding engine rods.
lung dong it's a tractor motor. dont fucking worry about the small stuff!
The next time I go to the county fair and see the old tractor exhibit, I’ll appreciate the engineering it took to make these engines. 🏆🥇🥈🥉🏆
I'm in heaven, A pretty girl with oily hands and a great tool kit, thank you lord !!
and not staged, lovely, anyway, a girl? Who cares, good job indeed !!
this girl could sell ice in the artic
Noone does that to a engine without getting filthy greasy. Her shirt was hardly stained. Staged for sure.
@@boathead22000 not sure what video you watched but her shirt is dirty
@@boathead22000 Staged? What Staged, you see her doing it and talking about it.
Can you somewhere put a list of the specialized tools you used? LIke the reverse pliers that removed the piston rings.
I can see it now: your mom opens up the freezer getting ready to make dinner and says, "Looks like Rachel's rebuilding an engine". :P
I was a mechanic for many years now I first seen this video I had my doubts if a girl could do that I'm amazed great job!
Plenty of female techs in the trade now.
