Taylor has said on Tumbler that these songs she had written during the 1989 era, but the production wasn't composed until today. That's why they kind of have a midnights sound to them. Soooooo I actually think this is the best vault we’ve had so far in terms of lyrics and cohesiveness. The vault tracks are telling the same story as the standard edition and the lyrics are more raw and direct in regards to who the songs are about. I think that’s why she chose to leave them out bc it’s undeniable who they’re about. I also think it literally sounds 1989 as in they’re synthy and have an 80s movie soundtrack vibe to them.

One thing that this re-recording has done for me is that it took my tunnel vision off of the singles cuz they were THAT dominating. And made me love more of the underrated ones. Truly magical
as a wonderland girly myself just seeing you listening to the re recording and understanding made me giggle. I LOVED this recording honesty the depth and excitement just made me ascend.
GIRL I WAS TODAY YEARS OLD WHEN I FOUND OUT IT’S NOT FAKE INTERVIEW AND I’VE BUILT MY WHOLE PERSONALITY AROUND THIS SONG THANKS FOR THE BREAKDOWN THO BYE
That’s how I felt when I found out New Romantics is “the lights and noise are blinding” and not “the lights and BOYS are blinding.” Honestly realizing that makes me not like it as much cause the misheard version is so much more clever 💀
so i was a 1989 kind of person, i am a HUGE OOTW stan ! I was about 10 and now coming back to 1989 TV and it’s like i’m that little kid again and coming back to this whole album i get to see what i’ve missed. I love this whole re recording project bc i get to re live a bunch of era of time and how special taylor is to me and my childhood. cant wait for rep tv !!!
I think with the vault tracks you have to just listen to them with an open mind and NOT constantly think "they don't go with 1989" because I think there REALLY good SONGS but the fact that there on 1989 means it has huge competition. if it makes sense
@@hurryhurryhurryhurryit’s all on one CD so it doesn’t count as a double album. The Beatles’s self-titled album (aka The White Album) is a double album because it’s 2 LPs (30 songs)
@@AlexeBriand2002 but it's on two vinyls two LPs so..... And also Kendrick Lamar did the same thing he promoted his latest album with 18 songs as a double album
the vault tracks are interesting. its possible she was recording Midnights at the same time, and Midnights took heavy influence from them sonically, part of why they sound like they belong on it. At the same time, the songs are perfectly arranged and follow a storyline. In Slut, she says you're not saying you're in love with me but you're going to. In Say Don't Go, she says i love you and he says nothing back. Probably because he wants it to be platonic. In Now That We Don't Talk, she says she ended it because she couldn't pretend to be platonic and she really fell. In Suburban Legends she builds up on it saying how she didn't want it to be platonic in the first place. But she understands that he didn't want to, to some extent. However, in Is It Over Now she's mad because he moved on loudly while he kept their relationship under wraps (sort of) and pretended it was platonic, which is making her question everything. That maybe it was over all this time even before she ended it. It's really interesting, the narration.
Honestly 1989 was the first album from Taylor that I fully listened to. I am just so glad to FINALLY listen to it again as I should and how it should have always been is by all means FULFILLING.
1989 brings me back to the simpler times of high school: receiving it for my 16th birthday, jamming to its singles in the car, and getting lost in Tay's storytelling (especially on the likes of This Love, I Know Places, and You Are in Love). Out of her discography, this is *the* most nostalgic & comfort album for me. 😌 You can bet I WILL be dancing to these beats forevermore! 👏🎵🌆 Edit: P.S. Happy belated birthday, Ashley! I for one was spending at Rhode Island Comic Con. 😉🎂
my thoughts on the vault tracks are that they were probably written around the time of the rest of 1989, but because they werent produced by jack until post-midnights, theres so much of that influence in the production that they feel almost like midnights tracks instead?? (is it over now is my favorite but it does NOT sound like 1989 so i 100% understand your conflict with the vault)
As a ‘you are in love’ stan, I was so happy that it sounded as perfect as it did!! It’s in my top 3 Taylor songs!! If you’re looking for something with the pop perfection of 1989 but w rep lyrics, I highly recommend Maisie peters album ‘the good witch”!! It’s so good!! 💗
oof i don't think my fragile heart was ready for the vault track disrespect cause these ones are the best vault tracks she's ever realesed imo. they feel like actual album songs, like the main body of an album
I think the feeling of fullness in the production comes from the demand for spatial audio and panning in a digital world where dolby atmos is slowly taking over, as opposed to 2014 when the OG 1989 came out where the main sales were from physical copies and in my mind this album was made for vinyl back then where there cannot be any panning or spatial sounds that are specifically in one ear or both ears, making the mix wider. I think rep will be pretty similar to the original because of streaming being much more prominent at that time, but a lot of the fuller and wider production definitely is because it doesn't have to be on CD or Vinyl, and they will be mixed and mastered differently for physical versions...ill stop now but as an audio engineer and music production and technology student I LOVE to talk about stuff like this :)
From here on out I'll be forced, when asked what my era is, to announce that I"m a 1989 Vault track girly. JUST the vault tracks. I really didn't anticipate my life going in this direction, but here we are.
I've been waiting for this !!! I personally LOVED this rerecording and I also loved the vault tracks...yes I do feel they're not "1989" enough, yes this is far from being my favorite vault, but I loved them and "Say Don't Go" is one of my favorite vault tracks ever (and a really damn good Taylor song)
i'm not even going to lie... as a Style girlie i *hated* the tv version at first listen and it has grown on me a lot but i really don't like produced it sounds, i absolutely loved how raw and "dirty" the original felt and this one just feels a little empty... other than that i really liked this rerecording, especially Wonderland!! also about the Vault tracks, i honestly feel like they fit Midnights way more as an album than they do 1989? Suburban Legends for example really reminds me of Mastermind in its production
Uhhh I agree on style, it was so raw and sounded like she’s casually singing next to you in a car while someone else plays guitar in the backseat at least that’s how I heard it 😂 and I loved that but it’s gone
Wildest Dreams is like the slowest song on the album and you're out here dancing like it's Shake It Off. I love the energy you bring!!! Love it, love it, love it
I think the vault tracks on each re-record have some influence from the albums that came before them. Fearless and Red while already very acoustic sounding gave more of a folklore/evermore sound to them. Then she dropped midnights and the speak now tv while not too midnights-y still had a bit more of a pop influence in the songs. Then now 1989 tv comes and the vault feels very midnights influenced. I think the vault tracks were written back then but have been brought to life with the sound she is currently working with. Upon initial listen I felt the 1989 vault was very midnights inspired and that’s because that’s the overall era and sound she is in.
I’m so sad people were being so harsh on this re-recording, to me 1989 is one of my fav albums and this re-recording just elevated everything I loved about the original, the production felt so full and clean and I’m obsessed. To me it’s her best re-recording to date
I will never understand this. You love the record, more power to you, so why get sad about other opinions? It's not like they are gonna take it away from you
@@romankarol5370no I just meant I feel for Taylor, she put so much love, time and effort into the record and for people to diminish it and nit pick that she says a word differently or something seems super unnecessary. If people don’t like it that’s their opinion but when it becomes a hate train towards Taylor it’s different
i think the vault track were written then but the production is thought just now, it is thought to kinda fit the project but also to make them for the audience she has now. Like ATW10 sounds nothing like og ATW for example, but it was written then.
We’re pretty close in age and I love watching the same shows you do, watch the summer I turned pretty!! It made me feel nostalgic in the best way and very 2000’s movie-esque. Really great music too! Goes along with the storytelling
It’s not really lower, her voice has just mature and gotten a bit deeper as it tends to do with time :) was still an absolutely fucking AMAZING re-record❤ definitely my favorite one ! I was dumb enough to not get really into the original 1989 until like 6 months ago and it’s really gone up to my number 1 rotation along with 3 others that go to number one on a weekly basis depending on my mood😂
I think the reason why some of us feel like some songs aren’t as high(in terms of notes hit) like before is because her voice currently has grown so much that those high notes back then feels like her normal range now. If you try to sing Style OG then the TV, the notes are still the same its just in a more comfortable manner.
Ok so I know what you mean, I think these tracks aren't as 1989-ish as I hoped they would be either, but they have REALLY grown on me and now I'm basically obsessed with them SO IT'S SAD SEEING YOU BE DISAPPOINTED BY THEM
46:52 I felt exactly the same and then they grew on me and now I have them on repeat. Not her best songs ever in my opinion and maybe it's a phase for me because they're new, but oh well. Keep listening 💙
I agree about the vault tracks. The other re-recordings had better tracks. and yes I can see why they didn’t make the album. However; she’s proud of them. So I’m happy for her
When ash was talking about the blue dress White boat and I was like what until she listens to is It over now? and then when she heard it and she was so calm and then she screamed she scared the shit out of me cause it was so unexpected 😭😭😭😭😭
i love the vault tracks however i do think they were definitely produced during midnights. they sound so much like labyrinth, mastermind, etc. i wish we had gotten 1989 production with those but they're still really great!
The isn’t even related to the actual album, but Ash you are the only one who I feel understands King Of My Heart the way I do! It’s such an amazing song and I need more people to start realizing that
41:59 Hearing the chorus of "Say Don't Go," it honestly gave me "Yeehaw Taylor" vibes, and knowing how much Ashley isn't normally into that, seeing her face during first listen doesn't surprise me. 42:48 Whoop, and there's the Speak Now name drop. I'm psychic. 😆
Say Don't Go gives me subtle pop rock vibes personally. Not enough to actually call it a pop rock song, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was an inspiration.
@@DoubleBlack2.0 I think she was mostly caught off guard and got caught up in her expectations versus reality--I bet they grow on her a good amount tbh.
@@missmusic4951fr i keep seeing people say they don’t feel like 1989…and i’m like well duh that’s why they weren’t on the original 😂 i personally love these more than most of 1989 bc they’re more story based w details and 1989 lacks that for me
18:38 I think what you might be hearing, Ashley, is the drumsticks tapping together, hidden and spaced out in the background of Shake it Off's production, but I could be wrong. 🤷♀
Well Ash let me tell you that I didn't listen to this album front to back before the re-record and from the moment I heard 'I know places' it became my fav so yeah it would still be good if it were to be released in today's age
i thought that lyric in style was “the end of you” because she thought the relationship was ending… i just found out what the real lyric is when this came out 😭

One thing that this re-recording has done for me is that it took my tunnel vision off of the singles cuz they were THAT dominating. And made me love more of the underrated ones. Truly magical
I DIED ON THIS!!! This was one of my favourites re-recordings, if not favourite😭
as a wonderland girly myself just seeing you listening to the re recording and understanding made me giggle. I LOVED this recording honesty the depth and excitement just made me ascend.
Have been waiting for this😊😊👏 1989 was the first Taylor album that started my Swiftie journey and will always have a special place in my heart 🩵🩵
Her immediately switching up on wonderland was so real ❤
I love this whole re recording project bc i get to re live a bunch of era of time and how special taylor is to me and my childhood. cant wait for rep tv !!!

it's the way that 1989 just hits different because Taylor was finally happy when she was singing these songs
It's been a little more than one week since the vault tracks and I can't stop listening to them. I'm addicted. All of them. All of them.
I think with the vault tracks you have to just listen to them with an open mind and NOT constantly think "they don't go with 1989" because I think there REALLY good SONGS but the fact that there on 1989 means it has huge competition. if it makes sense
I fell for the double album theory because it made so much sense
People have been clowning for a double album since Lover, they always come up with ways to make it sound convincing lol
so grateful i went through five holes in the fence and was forcefed a healthy dose of skepticism
@@missmusic4951but lover is 18 tracks that's technically a double album but yeah those theories were WILD
I am just so glad to FINALLY listen to it again as I should and how it should have always been is by all means FULFILLING.
i love “you are in love” SO MUCH it’s just a song that i wanna relate to so bad
1989 brings me back to the simpler times of high school: receiving it for my 16th birthday, jamming to its singles in the car, and getting lost in Tay's storytelling (especially on the likes of This Love, I Know Places, and You Are in Love). Out of her discography, this is *the* most nostalgic & comfort album for me. 😌
You can bet I WILL be dancing to these beats forevermore! 👏🎵🌆
Edit: P.S.
yesss I love Maisie sm
finally someone who LOVES you are in love as much as i do…this song is literally comfort. it’s home. it’s everything to me
i don't really consider myself a Swiftie but hearing new romantics when it came out changed me spiritually
The added harmonies on the out of the woods bridge make it so much better
FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS THE SUPERIORITY OF "YOU ARE IN LOVE" OVER "THIS LOVE"
you mean INFERIORITY
YESSSS IM SO GLAD LOL
AMEN
IKRRRR
oof i don't think my fragile heart was ready for the vault track disrespect cause these ones are the best vault tracks she's ever realesed imo. they feel like actual album songs, like the main body of an album
sameee like WHAT is goin on here 😭
@@Amazingunreleasedmusic-nx3uiWHAT! Even the fearless vault tracks?? listen to them more please bc they are incredible once you give them a few listen
@@Amazingunreleasedmusic-nx3uime when i'm wrong:
I still think the red vault is better 🙌🏻
@@SN-bk5xj the red vault is great! but 1989's vault is great too.
Watching Ashley panicking during Wonderland was a mood and a half 😂❤
47:59 for a Jumpscare 😂🎉
Caitlin and Ash both talking about the ticking sound in shake it off is sending me
From here on out I'll be forced, when asked what my era is, to announce that I"m a 1989 Vault track girly. JUST the vault tracks. I really didn't anticipate my life going in this direction, but here we are.
You've got a point; a lot of 1989 felt Reputation-coded, and since it's my favorit TS album, I'm SO ready for Taylor's Version.
this album is JUST A MASTERPIECE
I've been waiting for this !!! I personally LOVED this rerecording and I also loved the vault tracks...yes I do feel they're not "1989" enough, yes this is far from being my favorite vault, but I loved them and "Say Don't Go" is one of my favorite vault tracks ever (and a really damn good Taylor song)
ive been so depressed and this made me smile, 50 minutes of pure serotonin. i love you ash so much, thank you
i'm not even going to lie... as a Style girlie i *hated* the tv version at first listen and it has grown on me a lot but i really don't like produced it sounds, i absolutely loved how raw and "dirty" the original felt and this one just feels a little empty... other than that i really liked this rerecording, especially Wonderland!!
also about the Vault tracks, i honestly feel like they fit Midnights way more as an album than they do 1989? Suburban Legends for example really reminds me of Mastermind in its production
Uhhh I agree on style, it was so raw and sounded like she’s casually singing next to you in a car while someone else plays guitar in the backseat at least that’s how I heard it 😂 and I loved that but it’s gone
Yess I agree with the midnights opinion, I instantly thought that when hearing them like I love them all sm but idk they just don’t fit on 1989
Wildest Dreams is like the slowest song on the album and you're out here dancing like it's Shake It Off. I love the energy you bring!!! Love it, love it, love it
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ASHLEY!!! 🎉🎉🎉 I love you so much! thanx for making my days better and being my elder sister and mother on the internet!!!
It's not like they are gonna take it away from you
same !
@@TianaNovaaplease she is a billionaire, she's gonna be fine. People have the right to criticise her
I really love this re recording the best too!!
I turned 18 yesterday and all I was waiting for all day was this video. That´s the chokehold that Ash has on me.
Happy birthday! 🥳🍾🥂
i think the vault track were written then but the production is thought just now, it is thought to kinda fit the project but also to make them for the audience she has now. Like ATW10 sounds nothing like og ATW for example, but it was written then.
Thank the Lord that my confort channel is back on track. Tysm i love you Ash ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ash reacting to the summer I turned pretty would be so good
Happy Belated Birthday Queen…we love you so much…you are a national treasure to us all…🩵
I think the reason why some of us feel like some songs aren’t as high(in terms of notes hit) like before is because her voice currently has grown so much that those high notes back then feels like her normal range now.
I've been waiting for this video since the album dropped!!😭
I agree about the vault tracks. The other re-recordings had better tracks. and yes I can see why they didn’t make the album. However; she’s proud of them. So I’m happy for her
In “I Wish You Would” I still sing “to stand back wasted” instead of “to stand back where you stood”
The Rep Vaults will be insane!!! Especially if the scrapped Karma album theory is real…if any release would ever get a double vault it’d be Rep.
i’m so ready to get to the vault tracks with ash holy fuck (i’m not)
She only liked 2 💀
@@thatlastkissWHAT?!? Omg. I haven’t gotten to that part yet and hearing this really upsets me! 😭😭😭
@@DoubleBlack2.0 I think she was mostly caught off guard and got caught up in her expectations versus reality--I bet they grow on her a good amount tbh.
@@missmusic4951fr i keep seeing people say they don’t feel like 1989…and i’m like well duh that’s why they weren’t on the original 😂 i personally love these more than most of 1989 bc they’re more story based w details and 1989 lacks that for me
Now you know why they didn’t make the cut. They are not to the standard of 1989.
I was literally asking everyone I know about that sound in shake it off!!
1989 is my favorite album ever. The vault tracks are literally so amazing. I love this album so much.
EVERYBODY WISH QUEEN ASHLEY OUR FAVORITE INTERNET MOM A HAPPY BIRTHDAY
the way you jumped when you heard "AND WE RUN" i did the same and its still driving me insane to this day
i thought that lyric in style was “the end of you” because she thought the relationship was ending… i just found out what the real lyric is when this came out 😭
