Rhode Island here. These videos are terrific for so many important reasons. I’m sure they’re a lot of work, Mark, but please keep them coming if you possibly can. We need this calm, solid exposure to nature’s splendor.

      Hi JM!
I love Newport and Block Island! Bristol too! The videos.....I'm glad you like them. Thank you! A lot of work.....the filming is easy since I don't plan ahead with what I'm going to say. Totally off the cuff. The editing, that's a different story! I do plan to keep it going as long as it continues to grow. I'd like to see more people getting involved in gardening and therefore becoming more into natures beauty and be more caring of this planet. I appreciate you watching and of course, I thank you for the very nice comments. If you like my channel, share it with your friends. I would appreciate your help very much.
JM, you have a great day/evening!
      Best, -Mark

@@marksgardenlife5971, great to hear from you. It’s not remotely possible that you do these vids off the cuff. But I will try to believe you. 👍 I live in an historic village called East Greenwich. My really good friends live in Bristol, but we are all transplanted New Yorkers! I moved here 5 years ago and bought a little house in the historic district, just inches from the cove and harbor. House was built by a freed slave in 1830. So the original shell is protected by the H district. I’ve spent the last 4 years renovating it and planting garden scenarios on the property. The house is now a little jewel so I’m glad for the design/build work and workers. The gardens are especially wonderful. Serene, elegant and rustic all at the same time.
I’m a guy, but I’ve got a really close friend you might know about. Her name is Jan Johnson and she writes wonderful books on garden landscapes she has been installing for 25 years. So because of the books she lectures across the country a lot. You’d love her work. She was an artist from childhood and got into gardening decades ago as an expression of art.
For years I built 2 Japanese gardens in suburban New York, in the evenings. They’re my deepest passion. Anyway, I saved 5 of your vids to tonight to send to gardeners much more skilled than I, including the Bristol couple who have a splendid big garden right on the water. It’s massive, yet almost rural and elegant in simplicity. So I’m hoping they will subscribe. So tell me how I can learn more about your farm in Maryland? Website, I Assume, but I don’t know the name of the company. Are you keeping yourself a secret? Don’t, because this broken world needs you. Nite

@@marksgardenlife5971 we had about a week or so in June 90+ and humid. Finally got a few days rain; we've been in a bit of a drought. I have lots of green tomatoes.... just a bit of septoria leaf spot. No sign of early blight. Next year, I have to rotate the rows. It's daylily and hydrangea season 🥰 looking forward to a garden video update from you.

Great video Mark! I would have liked to hear John talk about that colorful beech tree behind the styrax obassia. The leaves on it substitute for flowers any day. I'm in love with that cornus kousa 'Venus' for sure.
Some of my favorite spring blooming trees are the eastern redbud. I know they are pedestrian and common but are great harbingers of the season. The other is a fantastic Cornus kousa called 'Akatsuki'. It has the nice variegated leaves like 'Wolf Eyes', but the pink flowers just absolutely pop in contrast to the tree. Then there is Rutgers' kousa 'Scarlet Fire'. Both are great for small landscapes too.
Loving your informative videos so far! Thanks so much.

Wow, that Dogwood with the large flowers was amazing! Two of my other favorites are Smoke Tree (Cotinus coggygria) and Fringe Tree (Chionanthus virginicus), which I refer to as 'Grancy Graybeard''. Chris Webber (maybe you've heard of him?, LOL) lives near me and has Smoketree 'Royal Purple' planted in mass at the entrance to his property. Always amazing to see them this time of year while they're blooming. Cheers!

I'm glad you enjoyed watching the video. The dogwood with the huge white flowers was my favorite too. It may be a while. It's going to cover a few acres and be a major undertaking. It still in in the planning process. I flew out to the western US and visited all the best Japanese Gardens on the west coast to get ideas. I learned what worked well as well as what didn't as far as design. The area where it is going has huge old trees and it really is going to be a incredible area for a Japanese Garden because the trees provide the feel it will need to look as if it's been there for years and the entire area is a gentle hill, so the water in the stream can gently wonder through the garden down to a pond at the base of the garden.

      Hi!
You are totally right. I have realized that, but to be honest, to cut the editing time down per video until I have a video editor, (it can take up to 10 hours to edit some videos) I have to avoid doing certain things. If it's a short video, I do close-ups when possible. I really appreciate you contacting me about that. Things will get better as I go along, so hang in there if you would. I'd appreciate that! Thanks for watching/commenting!
