I feel a small ache when watching a tour like this. I put myself in Renny's shoes and wonder if anyone can deeply appreciate the years of dreaming and designing, the success and the failure that all garden makers endure. I thought about it last spring when planting some new maples that I will not live to enjoy. Faith in a more beautiful future leads us on. A beautiful job....well done
I used to shop at Renny's original shop on the Upper East Side in Manhattan..and then on his store on Park Ave....A staple of NYC fine design...a nice guy...Glad to see that his is still around............thanks Mark for the video........
It just can’t get better than this, Mark. Breathtaking tour of natural and human architecture. Let’s say today is a living tribute to Jack and Renny, and to their splendid, accomplished life together. Btw, I too have a 300 year old giant Ash that’s really struggling to survive the Ash Pandemic. Thanks 🙏 and thanks 🙏
It's a shame so much is overgrown and in need of trimming, including the trees along the driveway and the terrace. I think space needs to be opened so that the structures can be seen. Love the meadow.
One hour of Gardeners World or one hour Marks Garden Life - Mark you won. Absolutely brilliant intro and tour. Would love to sit down and listen to Renee’s stories all day.
This is why I keep coming back to visit you,,,,Renny was a pleasant surprise... Thank You Mark... What a great property... Now, My Husband and I are thinking we need to start a go fund me, To buy you some closed toed shoes for the winter...LOL...LOL..
Mark, thank you so much for this tour down Memory Lane. I met Renny decades ago and our paths crossed many a time in his shop and at Studio 54. He is a treasure and I am thrilled that you know him and have shared him with so many more.
Love this guy-the sophistication of a creative career in the city, but a sincere love of nature and the countryside as evidenced by his exquisite garden and love of birds. Mark, thank you for this rare experience. ❤️
You are so accomplished and kind. Articulate and humble, you set an example for all to aspire to. Thank you for your contribution to my life, and all those fortunate enough to enjoy your videos.
Fantastic video, Mark! The culmination of a lifetime of gardening design is just amazing! While I’m saddened that Renny will be leaving this paradise soon, I’m also grateful that you both shared this beautiful place with us.
Thank you William! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. The nice thing is that the man (32 yrs. old) that purchased the farm is going to keep it opened for hopefully a long time. Thanks for watching! Have a great day! All my best, -Mark
Wow! How wonderful to have that much land and, make it such a personal paradise over the years! It's a shame he sold it but, hopefully the new owners will keep it as beautiful as it is now! Great video Mark! Have a great weekend! Loved his rescue pups too!
One of these days Mark, I will have a gorgeous farm for you to tour! Thanks so much for the video. His poor baby bandit still following him with a broken leg. That is loyalty. :)
I hope you do! It was my pleasure and you're very welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed the tour too. Dogs....Poor Bandit has cancer of the bone, so that really shows his dedication. Dogs are something! All my best, -Mark
The dog opening the door at 43:49 was a really kicker, amazing garden and the breath of history one could live several lifetimes there and find something new everyday.
What an amazing property! History architecture horticulture farming all in one place! Thanks for taking us along and sharing Renny and this beautiful property! Love these tours Mark!
Hi John! Yes, it really is an amazing place. John, it was all my pleasure and I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. There will be many more private and public estate tours in the next 6 months. Thanks for watching! Have a great day!' All my best, -Mark
Thank you so so much for sharing this with us. I completely forgot that it would be open, and I'm so close right over the river so I really need to stop by there. My deepest condolences to Renny for the loss of Jack. The place they have made is truly beautiful. Cheers, Ernie..
Breathless! I thought the sunflowers were spectacular and then you brought us to this 'ethereal' place. Maryland must be close to heaven. Thank you for this video. Wont tell Holly about the other dogs. 😉
Wow! This place is unreal! Its like an oasis or paradise of nature! So much beauty and everything is so well thought out..it all has a purpose! To live there would be such a privilege..always something to hold your interest or catch your eye all year round! This would be so much inspiration for your place Mark! This is such a work of art and congrats for Renny and his partner for putting so much hard work and thought into it and now so many can enjoy this! Thankyou so much Mark for sharing this incredible place and also thanks for Renny for allowing you to share this. He was very warm, friendly and full of knowledge and like u Mark you both have the passion for this. A great video!
YJ, I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. It really is a very unique place with so much effort put into it for 40 years. It was my pleasure. Yes, Renny is a great guy. Thanks for watching! Have a great week! All my best, -Mark
Very cool. The fall sun and cobalt skies really made everything look so vibrant. I wish Renny well as he transitions into the next chapter of his life.
Reynolds is indeed the 'Great American Gardener' (2008)! Love the 'Chasing Eden' book with Jack Staub, although I'll have to look for 'The Art of the Party' which somewhat inspires so many essays and articles in W, House & Garden, Architectural Digest etc. He's like the Monty Don across the pond, maybe 🤔 more! 🥃🥃 It's great to see Renny so well, since Jack passed in Jan 2020, and they were partners for 41 years. I recall a NYTimes article which once suggested they both wanted to be buried in a spot on the Farm they called 'Temple Canus'. PS: It's a long video. You can set the playback speed at x1.25. 🍀 PSS: (I'm still watching it... 😆) Thanks Mr Fitzpatrick & crew for this great visit Hortulus Farm. Reynolds commenting about chrysanthemums in the supermarket in front of the Sheffield Pink variety was a good tickle. 🤣 Glad that Reynolds mentioned Beth Chatto and Christopher Lloyd (horticulturist, not the actor!) and their books 📚 📖!
When I first saw the length of the video I thought I would probably break it up into a couple of viewings. However, I was still enthralled that I watched it all the way through… twice. What a beautiful presentation. Thank you so much for sharing.
Dear Mark, Great! Have you ever read the British magazine Country Life? Your video and your friend’s property are right from it. I am amazed at all the places you take us. All the best and always forward, nuestros homenajes los más efusivos, desde Buenos Aires, Lulú
Hi Stephen! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Renny and Jack spent a lot of years making it what it is today. Old Petunia is in her retirement years. She just does what she wants when she wants. Thanks for watching! Have a great day! All my best, -Mark
Hi Mark. What a spectacular tour of these beautiful gardens. Your attention to detail in your videos will without reservation gain you a subscription of viewers to at least one million by year end. Gardening (like cooking) has become an American favorite pastime. With people like you pioneering the education of gardening in this media form is brilliant and well appreciated. On behalf of myself and all your viewers, thank you for this tour of this marvelous garden. You never cease to amaze me. Wishing you all the best always from across the miles here in NYC. Always, Jonathan
Hi John! It was all my pleasure. I'm glad you enjoyed the tour and Renny and Jack really did a incredible job creating the oasis. Thanks for watching! All my best, -Mark
That was a lot of fun! Your combined knowledge and appreciation for beauty and garden design was inspiring. I was happy to hear that his farm will be maintained and continue to be open to the public.
Hi Doug! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour and got a little inspiration too! I'm glad Renny and Jacks garden is going to continue to be shared too. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend! All my best, -Mark
Hi Mark! Thanks for the beautiful tour of the Hortulus farm. I am lucky enough to live only 10 minutes from the farm and so glad you showcased this treasure! Hopefully it will be maintained and we wish Renny the best.
I think I've said this before, but you've outdone yourself with this one, Mark! What a fabulous tour of an incredible farm/garden. You are fortunate to know Renny and to have him lead the tour. Your questions really helped as "we" walked along. Thank you for this one, Mark. I hope you're having a wonderful weekend.
Thanks again Mark for another outstanding adventure! Thoroughly enjoy seeing your discoveries along with the history you share. This one I particularly enjoyed with each corner Renny turned filled with another “Wow!” You’re doing a super job Mark. Always look forward to traveling with you!
Mark I’m so jealous! A personal tour of a Spectacular property ! That’s it! I’ve got to move & put all this inspiration I’ve gotten from your tour into my much larger aspirational garden! The circular pool space, fountain & party area is brilliant! Thank You for this Special viewing treat!
Hi Cassandra! It really is a beautiful property and I wish I could have filmed the entire property, but the video was so long as it was. You may want to look at purchasing the book written about the farm. Amazon "Chasing Eden" Renny Reynolds. You can get it for around $17 and that's a steel at that! I have it. Also one that I have that Renny's former partner wrote which is excellent titled "Private Gardens South Florida" Jack Staub. Great book! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour! Thanks for watching! There will be some more estate tours coming soon as well as many more this spring. Have a great day! All my best, -Mark
Hi Mark, this was my favorite “field trip” video you have done! Beautiful! It really makes me want to step up my game in my garden. Of course, it can’t ever be that large but I can take a lot of inspiration from what you showed. Thanks!
Hi Jon! That's nice hearing. I'm glad it was inspiring to you too! I appreciate you watching and of course, for your comments too. And you're very welcome! Have a great weekend! All my best, -Mark
This upload was pure gold. I enjoyed every minute of this stroll....it was as if I was right there with you two....I am so grateful for you sharing this.
Mark, I'm just delighted I found you! This video was a charm to watch with such a famous designer of fabulous gardens! Being totally engrossed in this video, listening and learning so much from this knowledgeable man, I felt a deep sense of awe looking at the beauty that surrounded you both! What a sight to behold! Thank you both for the prime-time tour of loveliness! Walking along with the pups gave me such a feeling of complete love for this man! Such a pleasure to be in his presence! God speed beloveds!
Hey SB! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. Renny has worked extremely hard throughout his life and he has had an interesting life working with so many famous, very wealthy and colorful people. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend! All my best, -Mark
So happy that this is open to the public. Does make one envious though LOL Makes me want to hit the Botanicial gardens in my area now . Thanks for the tour Mark. And thanks for Renny for putting this magicial place together. Also love seeing that he knows his plants, and not just a land owner.
Hi Michael! I have to agree! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. Thank you! Renny is just such a down to earth nice person. Thanks for watching! Have a great day! All my best, -Mark
Mark! This was SUCH a delight to have watched. Thank you for capturing this stunning garden for us. Great work and such a fascinating property. Kind regards from Colorado!
The camera may not have captured the beauty of the property because much of the video appeared to be somewhat blurry? Some of the scenes towards the end were clearer. Renny Reynolds and his late partner Jack Staub authored a book about Hortulus Farm entitled "Chasing Eden - Design Inspirations from the Gardens of Hortulus Farm" that was published in January 2020. While the farm was a labor of love for both of them, trying to maintain such a large property would be daunting especially as one grows older?
Sorry about the not crisp images. A new camera which is acting up. I have filmed previous videos with no problem, but now it's decided to have issues. The issue with maintaining large places anymore is finding decent help. I'm young and it's still a fight to find and keep people who want to work in the horticultural field and I refer to get out there and do what it takes which can be hard work. Thanks for watching! Have a great day! All the best, -Mark
Fascinating video, Mark! I feel as if I was treated to have my own private garden tour. It reminds me of the horticultural programming that HGTV used to have 25-30 years ago, but seems to have since abandoned. I really miss garden programming on cable TV. You could possibly develop a streaming service with Netflix for production of gardening programs and horticultural primers. While watching this video I was reminded of a U.K. gardening series hosted by Monte Don, which had aired on Netflix, and featured historical gardening trends in Europe. I’m really looking forward to more videos like this. They fill a void for me left by current-day cable programming. Bravo!
An incredible video tour of a magnificent property! Thanks Mark for this fantastic video showcasing the work of the owners. What a privilege to see it!👍👌😃💜
Hi Matthew! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. It was my pleasure! Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comments too. Have a great weekend! All the best, -Mark
Well Mark you've done it again! What a fantastic Journey today. Beautiful Gardens and what history behind it all. Glad to hear that it will be preserved and open to the public. He and his partner put so much love into the property, he will really miss walking through the gardens with all of his memories. Question... were the birds and animals going to stay on the property? I always admired the peacocks until I moved where I am today. They roam wild around here. They are so loud and destructive so I guess Beauty has its price. Great information I learned a lot thanks for sharing Mark. Enjoy what's left of your weekend looking forward for your next video.
Hi Brian! Glad you enjoyed the tour. There will be many more private and public ones coming in the next 6 months. Thanks for watching! Have a great day! All my best, -Mark
Nice gardens. Love seeing the dogs running around. I enjoy my gardens and my dog as well. Really enjoy your videos, relatively new to your site. Enjoy the bonus view as well 😉
Such a magnificent garden with a very knowledgeable tour guide. It is fantastic tour. I only wish we could also see it in the summer. Alas, it is not to be. It must be such a wrench to sell a property that you have put your heart and soul into.
Great gardens, thanks for taking us along! I really like all the sculptures, statuaries, and focal points. The narrow driveway makes you slow down and enjoy.
Thank you so much, what a wonderful tour. And your host is truly a knowledgeable - charming man! The garden reminded me of Frank Cabot's garden in Quebec - Les Quatre Vent.
Hi Jim! It was my pleasure and I'm so glad you enjoyed the tour. Renny's really a nice and very knowledgeable man. I watched the program on Frank Cabot's garden and also purchased the book. It's on my bucket list to visit in the next few years. Have you been there yet? Have a great weekend! All my best, -Mark
@@marksgardenlife5971 Haven't been there yet either. But It sure is on my list too. Really enjoy your show, you put in a lot of hard work to make it happen. I'm a realtor and just beginning to learn the video game - I can really appreciate the hours it takes to put out what you do. I also picked up on Renny's comment about his petasities japonicus, I agree they can really be invasive. Super cool looking but boy do they expand. Have a Super Halloween!! Jim
Looks so cool! Love it. That’s Awesome! Love their farm. Wish I could own something like that one day. So peaceful. I had a feeling you were family friendly. 😉
Hi Mark! How are you doing? Hope you're doing well. Love this garden tour, what a huge garden and so many variety of trees, plants, shrubs, perennial's and animals. It is so beautiful to see all the fall trees turning different color too, iv got to say there's some beautiful garden up you're end of the woods and i really enjoy them. Thank you so much for this beautiful tour, will you be doing any more of other garden tours around you? i would love to see what other beautiful gardens there are there, i can make a list of places i can visit when i can. Howsis you're garden doing at the moment? and how are Holly and Annie doing? Here our weather has been quite wet and cool to cold at times like in the higher 50's lower 60's but this week looks like we may finally reach the 80's and last night it got down to 36 degrees and so in the middle of the night i got up and had to cover some crops from getting damaged from a possible frost and now we may also finally start to get warmer nights like in the mid 50's to mid 60's, next week it might get to 90 for the first time this spring plus this Thursday they are saying that we may get some big storms so i hope it wont be damaging, also we have been getting tornadoes here in Australia in fact in the last 2 weeks there have more then 8 tornadoes, there's been a record amount of them which i have never seen but the good news is nobody got killed. I hope you have a great week ahead. Best Gabby :)
Hi Gabby! Doing well, but busy. It really is a great garden which has taken 40 years to evolve. There is a really nice book on the farm on Amazon titled "Chasing Eden; Design Inspiration from the Gardens at Hortulus Farm". You can get it used and new for around $17. I think you'd really like it. Tours....yes, there will be a lot this spring of large private estates of people I know. Also some this winter from Florida of private and public estates. The garden..pretty much done for the year. Holly and Annie.....doing well. We still are in the 60's during the day and 50's at night or upper 40's. Cold is coming though right around the corner. It sounds like summer is right around the corner for you, but you guys are having some bad weather as well. Well, thanks for watching as always. Have a great week! All my best, -Mark
@@marksgardenlife5971 Hey 👋😃 thank you for the suggestion of the book, I’m looking forward to the other places you’ll be going 😃 and on Thursday we had storms after a 86 degree day and humid too and then yesterday we had a damaging windstorm with a lot of trees down and power outages and the temperatures dropped a lot it only got to 54 degrees, luckily no damage to our home. Next week more heat is coming possibly 90 degrees and also possibly more bigs storms. Hope you have a great weekend 😀 Best gabby
your most entertaining video. so beautiful and so relaxing. ive seen everyone of your videos and ive never seen you so relaxed and so at ease. A beautiful thing to watch thank you
Hi Mark! I'm glad you enjoyed the video tour of the farm. It really is a incredible place and very comfortable as well. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend! All my best, -Mark
Hi Daniel! Yes, it really is a great garden. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Daniel, let me see if I have room left in the description and if I do, I will. I should have added it on the video, but it is such a time consuming job doing it. You're very welcome! Thanks for watching! Have a great day, -Mark
Exciting! I watch a channel called Guilty of Treeson that gives me the heebie jeebies but I love it! Good idea to top that maple. It was way out hand. You will still have shade next summer.
I can't imagine all the hours it took to create all of those gardens. I'm guessing they hired others to help with it. I hope you can go back in Spring to create another video that shows different things in bloom.
Probably more like the years it took! As far as maintaining, yes. I'd love to revisit the gardens to film it in another season. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend! All my best, -Mark
Dunno if Laura From Garden Answer has seen this but I bet this is what she hope her new property will look like Lolz the second truck that went by today stopped to cruise Mark😅😅
Hi Linda! Just busy. It's getting into the greenhouse busy time of year and doing a lot of prep right now. To much to do, to little time! lol Thanks for being concerned and "checking in". -Mark
If anyone is going to have a Dr Doolittle effect on animals with their calming energy, it's probably Mark, but having said that - I'm pretty sure that swan just wanted you dead. It's kind of their M.O. :)
Beautiful place, fascinating tour, quite an antidote to the "Fours hours at the Capitol" just watched on BBC. Picture quality didn't seem as good as it usually is though which was a shame given the stunning vistas and plants.
I'm glad you enjoyed. No, a new camera and it's showing some problems that it didn't show the previous video I used it in. It's always something! Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend! All my best, -Mark

Wow! This was a lot of fun. What an amazing life this gentleman has lived. I really enjoyed your video, Mark!
Hey SB!
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. Renny has worked extremely hard throughout his life and he has had an interesting life working with so many famous, very wealthy and colorful people. Thanks for watching!
Have a great weekend!
All my best, -Mark
So happy that this is open to the public. Does make one envious though LOL
Makes me want to hit the Botanicial gardens in my area now .
Thanks for the tour Mark. And thanks for Renny for putting this magicial place together. Also love seeing that he knows his plants, and not just a land owner.
Beautiful. I could walk this property every day and never tire of it. Great video
Hi Ernest!
I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. Thanks for watching!

It's hard to imagine anyone lives like that. Absolutely incredible. Gorgeous beyond words. Thank you so much for sharing something like this.
My favorite things: the black swan and Mark!
Spectacular garden. Spectacular video! Great job interviewing a legend!
Hi Michael!

Mark! This was SUCH a delight to have watched. Thank you for capturing this stunning garden for us. Great work and such a fascinating property. Kind regards from Colorado!
This is my dream property. So gorgeous. I love that house.
What well trained dogs.
Absolutely beautiful piece of property...my kinda of dream...God bless
Bravo!
Hi Kevin!
I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. It does seem we lack decent gardening programs on TV doesn't it. Thanks for watching!
All my best, -Mark
Wow really great gardens tour. Love it. Keep up the good content 😁🥰
Hi Brian!
Glad you enjoyed the tour. There will be many more private and public ones coming in the next 6 months. Thanks for watching!
Have a great day!
All my best, -Mark
Mark, where is further info about the wonderful Hortulus Farm...didn’t see it in the description...great tour
Nice gardens. Love seeing the dogs running around. I enjoy my gardens and my dog as well. Really enjoy your videos, relatively new to your site. Enjoy the bonus view as well 😉
Hi Jimmy!
Welcome to the channel! Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
Have a great day!
All my best, -Mark
Such a magnificent garden with a very knowledgeable tour guide. It is fantastic tour. I only wish we could also see it in the summer. Alas, it is not to be. It must be such a wrench to sell a property that you have put your heart and soul into.
What a beautiful farm. Thanks for sharing Mark.
Michael, I'm glad you enjoyed the tour and it was all my pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Have a great day!
All my best, -Mark
Great gardens, thanks for taking us along! I really like all the sculptures, statuaries, and focal points. The narrow driveway makes you slow down and enjoy.
Just incredible beauty. Thanks Mark for taking us on tour of such a beautiful place.
Must go I'm enjoying this and will return Thanks to you both for the visit, always great when someone loves the properties.
John, you're very welcome!
Jim
Yes, the videos can be a lot of work. No doubt about that! lol
Thanks Jim!
Beautiful garden. Thank you for the tour. The dogs are so sweet.
You're so very welcome. Yes, the dogs are. Thanks for watching!
All my best, -Mark
Looks so cool! Love it. That’s Awesome! Love their farm. Wish I could own something like that one day. So peaceful. I had a feeling you were family friendly. 😉
Thanks for watching!
All my best, -Mark
I just love this. I can see the potential in my garden by watching this. Thanks so much!
Glad you enjoyed the tour! You're very welcome!
All the best, -Mark
Love, love, love this garden! Thank you Mark
Hope you have a great weekend 😀
Best gabby

Have a great weekend!
All my best, -Mark
This is a great garden manage with passion. Is it possible to write back the names of the mentioned at the end please. Thank you Mark!
Hi Daniel!
Yes, it really is a great garden. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Daniel, let me see if I have room left in the description and if I do, I will. I should have added it on the video, but it is such a time consuming job doing it. You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Have a great day, -Mark
What a nice tour! Sorry it is sold,? Hope new owner will continue their integrity !
Hi George!
I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. Thanks for watching!
All my best, -Mark
When I grow up, I want to be this garden!
lol I'd have to agree!
Exciting! I watch a channel called Guilty of Treeson that gives me the heebie jeebies but I love it! Good idea to top that maple. It was way out hand. You will still have shade next summer.
This is outstanding!
Hi John!
Glad you enjoyed the tour! Thanks for watching!
All my best, -Mark
Thank you Mark, I really appreciated this!
Adrienne, it's my pleasure! Thanks for watching!

Such an inspiration. Thanks, Mark!
Hi Christopher!
I'm happy you liked the tour. You're very welcome! Thanks for watching.
All my best, -Mark
Love that shirt on you
I can't imagine all the hours it took to create all of those gardens.
Dunno if Laura From Garden Answer has seen this but I bet this is what she hope her new property will look like
Lolz the second truck that went by today stopped to cruise Mark😅😅
this video is a triumph!
Is everything ok over there? Been almost a week and no replies to comments and no new video. Hope all is good.
Hi Linda!
I think you're right about the Swan! lol He liked guarding everyone. Other swans, ducks, geese. lol
