That was absolutely fascinating! I've never seen trees that big being moved before! Talk about up close and personal! Great video!
Got to tell you Mark, while you were talking, as they were about to dig the first tree, Holly made me a nervous wreck! Lol She is such a sweet girl going up to each tree guy and saying hello!
Your overall plan sounds fantastic and I can't wait to see it happen for you! Love your vision! Thank you!

      Hi Tom!
Glad you enjoyed the video! It is interesting seeing that, isn't it! That was actually Holly's one year older sister Annie. (same mom) Annie is the sweetest dog and loves people as you can tell. She is the official "greeter" at the greenhouses. Loves kids too. If you sit next to Annie, she will take her head and rub it on your chest. The most social Rottie I've ever seen. Typically, they can be asocial. The plan......it's gonna be fun watching as the layers upon layers of things are completed. I didn't go into to much of the details because that would bore people. I think with the several thousand Azaleas and Rhododendrons, hydrangeas, Crepe Myrtles and probably 100,000 bulbs in the spring, it should turn out pretty nice. All that will have night lighting also. Under and over lighting both. I want the night reflections from the lights to show in the lake. The lake will be surrounded in the grass apron that surrounds the lake with tall victorian looking street lights as if you were on a street back in the 1890's. I want it to appear as a park that not only has a day life, but a night life as well. Now I'm probably boring you too! lol Thanks for watching and of course, I appreciate your comments!
      Have a great week!
      Best, -Mark

@@marksgardenlife5971 Wow, that's going to be spectacular! No, you're not boring me at all! I think it wonderful! I'll be following along every moment! 100,000 tulips? And my planting 20 tulips and 10 daffodils seems trivial in comparison! 🤣
Your vision and plan are exciting to me! Have an awesome week, Mark, and again thank you!

The grand plan......I don't think I'll ever get finished! lol So many gardens planned to be going in from a 2 acres Japanese Garden to French formal gardens and even a huge sunken garden! I may film some of it while it's being created. The Japanese Garden has some trees being moved into it this month. And yes, one of these days I am going to have some open houses for my viewers who would be interested in seeing where I live and I hope you can make it. As we move some of the trees going into the 2 acre Japanese Garden going in, I'll do a video on that also. That's a really interesting project too. I flew out west and spent 3 weeks touring all the major Japanese Gardens on the west coast and learned a lot. I have the perfect area too for a Japanese Garden with many very old huge trees in the entire area where it's going. There is also a huge french oval formal garden, a sunken garden and two more huge formal gardens being added along with a 500 foot tree allee. Hey YJ!
I think it will work out well when it all gets completed, but it's going to be a multiyear project. Having a large property does allow you many options. Wait until you see the other gardens going in adjacent to the formal garden. A 2 acre Japanese Garden, a sunken garden, a oval french garden, 2 more formal english style gardens and a 500 foot allee with Crepe Myrtles and than also a huge landscape in the woods where the grass is kept cut at the west beach on the property along the river. That one has several thousand hosta, fern, azaleas, rhodos and various other shade loving perennials being installed. I put in a Daylily bed last fall with 1,500 2 gallon daylilies, but the deer ate every bud off before they bloomed, so I could not do a video on that one. Next year, during bloom time, I 'm going to put deer fence around the entire bed! lol Well, as always, thanks for watching and of course, I always enjoy reading your comments!

Love the vision, Mark! 😍 So excited to be able to see this from the start. Those machines are mind blowing! Technology has its proper place with those monsters. Watching those spades cut through the ground was incredible! It looked like a knife through butter. I couldn’t imagine trying to dig those trees up by hand!
Around here our ground is a rock manufacturer. No matter how many you clear out, you’ll get another harvest next year. I’ve dug up a massive boulder in the middle of my turf in my last house. And multiple more in my gardening here in my current home. Getting a spade in the ground is a feat in and of itself 😆. The soil I had to move from the raised beds I acquired is filled with rock too. It’s been a slow process of manually sifting the dirt mountain, shovel load by shovel load, into the wheel barrow. 🤦🏼‍♀️🥴. Only half way done and I’ve gotten over (17) five gallon buckets of rock! A bucket is filled for every wheelbarrow load lol. The rock has been mostly repurposed so far. Using all that rock to make a French drain through the deep swale before covering it all to level out the yard. Worth the effort so we don’t get a flood.😊 Super dense clay soil here too.
I can’t wait to see the vision for the new farm entrance unfold and come to fruition! Grateful for the video, Mark. Looking forward to the next one with all the trees done. Thanks for sharing with us!! Take good care over there. Many blessings! 🙏🏻🙌🏻💞

      Hey Tina!
I'm glad you like it. I have a lady doing a color rendition of what all that will look like when complete. There was so much I didn't talk about to shorten the video. All the trees will be underlit with various lights placed to make the night view amazing. There will be paths leading throughout the "woods" and over 100,000 bulbs will be planted in there when all the tree planting gets completed. The lake will have huge antique looking lights surrounding the entire lake in the grass apron that surrounds the lake and there will be an island on the lake with a bridge going out to it with an old fashioned gazebo like they used to build them. I already purchase a massive pair of 12' high antique gates and a massive pair of antique victorian looking cast iron old gas lights I had converted to electric for the front of the 15' high brick gate post. Than I purchased two 4 foot high urns for atop of the gate post. It's all fun! lol Yes that spade is something. The owner told me each blade (4) cost $9,000 each! I have some rocky parts of the property here too. All in the wooded areas though. It does make it difficult to work with, doesn't it!
Tina, as always, I appreciate you watching and of course, it's always nice to hear from you!

That’s cool your friend lived here. I’m bias, but I’m truly in love with this place...well the Northern Panhandle that is. Never been in southern Idaho 😂. Camping season has come to a close til next year. I’m still dying to get to Glacier National Park! A bucket list item for sure. There’s a nearby lake that I might hit before the snow comes. I’ll send pics if I make it happen. Just saw that we will get freezing temps in a couple days! 🥶. I’ve got to get these beds complete! I did pick up a pop up greenhouse today so my tomatoes are protected while construction continues. Finished leveling the garden area and I’m almost done with the full perimeter of the beds. Phew! Cutting it so close lol.

I got to see a tree spade in action a few years ago - very cool to watch the entire process. I guess with mature Hollies you don’t have to worry about sun orientation like you do with some trees? Nelly Stevens is a great variety and I’m using them as a privacy hedge. In zone 7B, the late spring “surprise!” freezes we get often kill off the emerging flower buds. Especially this year, almost 0 berries. 🥲. Personally, I think 6-8 Dutch Warmblood horses, and maybe a couple of Belgians, would look great in that field! 🤪. Great video, Mark! Glad to see you’re back to gardening!!!

      @marksgardenlife5971  2 года назад

      Hi Mike!
I always thought an allee was when trees were planted close together, but it could be referred to that even though it will have fifty feet of grass width between the standard hedges. I think it should look pretty good by the time everything is planted and worked out. I like taking my time with projects and adjusting things as things evolve. It seems the finished product always comes out better in my experiences anyway. I forgot to mention too that I am going to plant tens of thousands of daffodil bulbs, crocus and species tulips on the hillside as well and most major trees will be underlit to create a really interesting night appearance that reflects on the night lake water as well. If I can find some huge antique street lights, I will place them along the lake greenway that surrounds the lake. It will be an evolution with new ideas as it goes along. I think landscapes can be as attractive at night as in the day if you light things right. Actually in some cases, even more attractive. Mike, thanks for watching and commenting too!

Annie has a faded red collar and Holly has a chain collar. Holly was in the beginning and the very end. The grass....yes, lots of damage. Just more for the guys to fix! Power lines......They took the cherry picker lift we have here and pushed the wires (phone, cable tv) up so the tree spade could move under them. I am going to have the wires relocated. It's going to be a long project. Just the permit process for the lake takes several years! It gets dark here now by 6pm. I hate it! Melbourne.......no, I haven't seen that in the news. I do see that Australia is now my 2nd largest viewership after the US, so I guess it's the lock down. What are the lock down rules? My issue around here is deer! Hi Laurence!
I prefer the cooler times like early spring and early fall. Hollies are so tough, that's why I chose fall because if I had planted them in the early spring, the guys who work here would have had a lot of watering to do all summer long and I wasn't sure if they would be able to keep up with all the other maintenance that this place requires. That's why I want to put a lake in and fully irrigate the entire 30 acres of gardens, grounds around the house. It's cheaper in the long run to have automated watering. To answer your question though, it depends where you are, what type of trees they are, and how large the balls dug are. Those are 8 foot which is a fairly large ball. Hope that answers your question.
