I just realized that what attracted me to the FujiX100V was the beauty and the aesthetics of it. There are cheaper cameras that can do what this camera can do and better, but people want to look good and feel good taking pictures, and to hell with being logical and practical. The Fuji X100V is a camera for people who like to look cool with beautiful toys.

turning off bluetooth helps alot with the heat issue.

Turning off the Bluetooth also gets rid of the image transfer issue when sending over images to you smart phone. The Bluetooth lacks stability and is unreliable. Better to transfer your images using the camera's built-in Wi-Fi. Works every time, no fuss. Also, should you own other Fuji cameras not equipped with Bluetooth, you'll need to use the Wi-Fi method to transfer your images anyway. Why should Fuji users want to learn TWO different methods to transfer images when one method, Wi-Fi, will suffice for ALL Fuji cameras?
The way they integrated that screen is beautiful! That was probably my favorite feature when comparing to my T. As for getting warm, I literally didn't have an issue with that at all. I also didn't shoot a second of video on it, but it never got warm for stills. As far as the D-pad, I love what they did with the GFX 50R. I don't miss the D-pad at all as they added 4 custom buttons on the back of the camera. I simply mapped my D-Pad functions to those and that was solved! I'm with you on the swipe features. I don't want to use my beautiful Fuji cameras with all their dials and knobs like a smartphone. That defeats the whole purpose of the "appeal" of Fujifilm for me. Haha.
X100 series are photographers cameras and they don't need million customizable buttons and dials. I was so glad they got rid of D-pad. Camera still has 3 customizable dials and countless customizable buttons, but some people still want D-pad... As for overheating, camera does get a little warm just right behind the battery after a lot of use, but turning Bluetooth off really helped it.
@@HaevyGlow I like having a couple of function buttons for things like self-timer and changing metering modes. Other than that though, everything I need is in a button or dial form on Fuji's. That's part of why I love them so much.
KentuckyMan30 I’ll just stick to my X100T. Has the best x-trans sensor and still keeps up with the newer cameras. Lock it to F4 and snap away. Also, it doesn’t get warm! Just keep a spare battery around lol
I appreciate your review videos because they are balanced and you give us viewers context by explaining how the particular camera fits in (or doesn't fit in) with your existing gear/lifestyle/work. It's easy to understand how the pros and cons would relate to my own context. Does that make sense? Anyways, thanks for sharing, and always adding humor and a positive attitude!
Great video, thank you :). I've just bought the X100v and love it. I have a DSLR with a bunch of lenses and didn't want something else where I'd spend more money on a rabbit hole of lenses. I just wanted a camera I could put in my rucksack along with my drone and a gimbal to to get great quality shots without the weight of a DSLR. For that it works great and having to stick to a 35mm lens is a refreshing break. So, for me, if you are only planning on buying 1 camera, your advise to go with an interchangeable lens camera is good. However, if you have a DSLR already and want a more compact solution as a travel camera, I'd certainly recommend the X100v.

I’ve just bought the X100S and using it with my XT20. Loving both cameras and they do everything I need them to do. Together with the old Nikon F4 the best way I’d describe them is fun and I enjoy using them. I may buy the 100V much further down the line, keeping my hands warm during winter use could be useful 😉

I currently shoot with the XT2 and was thinking of adding the 100V for those times when I wanted to carry a much smaller camera but still wanted something better than a smartphone. I would still have XT2 and all the lenses I have for it. I tend to move my controls to the front and rear control dials if I am shooting an event or just trying to be quick and efficient. All other times I use all of the manual control I have available as for me it enhances the shooting experience.

Thank you so much for your honesty!! Also prefer D-pad. I sold the X-E3 and went back to the X-E2 for this reason. Can’t stand screen for functions and NO MORE BUTTONS. Right now I’m testing the T vs the F. I prefer the T but consistent batteries ease of use is a real thing. The thing with the X100 line is when you don’t add hoods and stuff you can truly fit it in your pocket. I take it on bike rides and walks all the time. .. FWIW, I’m skinny-jean free. Just normal summer shorts in FL. CHEERS to you Omar. So thankful for you and your videos.

What is the point in there being an ISO dial if you have to look at the screen to see where it is set?
The heat issue would certainly bother me too.
Time and again, Omar hits the nail on the head with the things that matter. I was unaware of the soft-focusing-at-short-distances XF23mmf2 until you brought it up, and I've been delightedly shooting with the (albeit pricier) f1.4 version that I decided on instead ever since, as I like to get up close.
Between the X100V's dials and heating, the X-T4's lack of tilty screen, the X-T30's lack of D-pad, the Xpro3's general ridiculousness and the X-T3's lack of anything much above the X-T2, it looks like I'll be continuing to save money and enjoy my X-T2 for a long time yet! :D Congrats on your new X-T20 by the way - now that's a camera that makes sense! :)

Totally agree with you on the touch swipe functions. On my new X-T30 I disabled all touch swipe stuff, because it didn't respond quite well. More buttons is a good one. I configured the AE-L button as Filmsimulation and AF-L as Face Detection on/off. Now it's a matter of time if I can live without the intented functions of those two buttons :)
Mine is on order and can’t wait to get it. I’ve ordered the black version, and although I prefer the look of the aluminium and its classic retro style, I feel that the black is much more discreet for street photography. This will be my first X Camera, and although I still love my Nikon full frame i quite frankly love what Fuji are doing with crop sensor, and want to be part of it. 😃

Awesome review Omar new sub for you. I'm on the fence with the V, I want it but not sure I need it, the X100f still has me constantly amazed.
I really appreciate this video. I've been on the fence for weeks. And you've just added more questions! But my biggest hang-up is what looks like a very very complex menu system. (One reviewer called it Kafkaesque.) I can't imagine how anyone actually remembers how to navigate through everything. I see how it is very customizable, and the thought occurs that you have to go through a lot of hair pulling until you get things where you want them. I'd love to get some opinions on how people have reacted to it and/or handled it.

Totally agree with you Omar. It's a fantastic camera, but it would be too limiting for me, because I rarely do street photography anyway. The fixed lens (especially at 23 mm) is not by far my favourite aperture. I've pre-ordered the XT-4, but with everything going on, I have no idea when it'll be available. I just ordered one. I have my medium format cameras for most of my work, but traveling with them is a pain. I've had the x100, and the X100Tand loved them. I'm looking forward to using the x100v when it arrives.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this honest video. I have pre-ordered the X-T4 to replace my X-T3. But lately I have been pondering to maybe get the X100V instead. I shoot a lot with my XF23 f1.4 (looooove that lens) and XF16-55 f2.8. You video has made me stay by my pre-order because mainly for the IBIS (yessss, finally 🤗) and... I don't like warm hand 🤣 (except if that is another ladies hand touching me 🤪)

I have had my X100V for three weeks and it has never got warm.

I have the xpro3 and i use the OVF to look outside the frame but also to focus more on composition, because i dont get distracted with exposure flickering, blown out highlights, pixelation when you focus etc. I just feel more involved. I know it is extremely subjective!

Great review as usual Omar. You bring the real unbiased facts, while also keeping the review interesting and fun. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻 One note: It looks like your camera has a lot of sensor dust. Assuming you shot the product images with your A7iii? Sony’s tend to like holding on to dust - I know my A7ii does :)
I prefer the X-T3 over the X100 series, with the 23mm (all weather resistant for outdoors stuff) or the X-T3 with the 27mm pancake (super low profile for street). Stay safe and healthy!

The button I miss is the “view” button to cycle through the rear screen being on, off, off when looking through the viewfinder etc. I like it off to save battery, but when I want it on the dedicated button was nice. It’s minor, but it is a feature I now have mapped to another custom button I otherwise could use for something else. Never thought I would miss that from my X100F. As for heat, 15 minutes of setting up custom settings, and it felt a little warm. An hour of shooting when I, by habit, turn off the camera between shots when walking around, and I never noticed it. And grinding on the focus wheel-nothing. Feels identical to the 100F.
Back when I decided to sell my Canon DSLR because I never used to due to the size, I think the X100 series was out and it along with the Olympus similar model sorely tempted me. In the end I went with the X-T10 and the 27mm pancake and never looked back. It still looks like a fun camera, and I do want a range finder style camera, but I might go with a used X-Pro one day.

I have one. Before I got it I was out in the woods with my xt3 and 16-80 lens and tripped and fractured my ankle. Then the x100v arrived. After that Covid 19 social isolating arrived. I got the x100v as my walk around camera, as I felt the xt3 was a bit large for that. Some day, after fractures heal and viruses disperse, I actually hope to walk around with it.
I would LOVE to have a camera with a leaf shutter. Takes me back to my first camera, a Yashica 35mm camera.

Ya I was never in love with the idea of the previous x100 's and instead went he xt20 route like yourself. And to this day is still my main shooter. I also picked up a ricoh gr which I am incredibly in love with. That I use purely for street. The xt20 just isn't NEARLY as enjoyable as the ricoh for me personally, for street. Too much work and never quite the consistent, Gorgeous, and quick output as the Ricoh. Having said that I really wish that I could combine the two. And to be honest and from my limited experience at B&H with the 100V. It seems to do that pretty darn well. The picture is gorgeous with just the perfect amount of bokeh when needed (I mean how much bokeh does one need?! Geez! Lol) the form factor is super slick. The screen is perfect now imo. And from my experience the auto focus was incredibly smooth and snappy (just like my women), that all and all I can only imagine that this would cover 90 percent of my needs. Not just with photos but also with video believe it or not. The video output combined with the improved gorgeous lens, and I'm pretty confident that I would use this almost ALL the time. Albeit the xt-4 looks perfectly too haha! That would be my pro rig. And this would be my everything else rig 😊👍🏽
Agreed with everything said here. The heat and noise was my biggest gripe especially for the price personally. The heat isn't extreme (depending on what you do exactly), but it gets warm FAST, even when browsing through the menu. As for noise the battery buzz when using the EVF is audible and doesn't sound normal. Autofocus sounds like a printer when it hunts for focus... The sensor cleaning(?) when the camera turns on and off sounds clunky. Very similar to the not so great Sony 50 1.8. Also might need to drop another 100+ for accessories if you don't have any to inherit from the past model(s). Listing mostly cons and maybe that's all normal in the series, but probably going to grab an X-T4.
Great review I still have x100s bought secondhand. The photos are great straight out of camera. I sill find my self reaching for this camera as it is small and it does not frighten people as they think it is not a serious camera. (Some may argue it is not a great camera) The Fujifilm xt2 I thought I would use more than the X100s tends to stay at home ! As you say they Fujifilm x100 cameras you either love them or hate them.
Well stated friend. I think that experience is common. Most of us could have stopped with simpler setups, but felt a need to chase the technology. Not everyone willing to admit that.

Well said. Can't stop loving this camera, but its just ssoooooooooo expensssssiiiiivvve! Actually bought it, shot it extensively during the return period, and ended up returning it. I found that i was getting more photos than usual that were slightly blurred, due to camera movement (on my part). If they could shoe-horn IBIS or lens-based image stabilization into this in a future model, i'd be back buying it again. So, i'm leaning towards the S-X10.
I have a XS-10 (with a XF23mm F2 R WR), and I'm debating if I should buy the X100V or not. Besides the obvious positives over the XS10 such as the portability, weight and looks, it also has weather sealing plus a fantastic MFD that the comparable XF23mm (both F2 and F1.4) and the XF27mm (also both versions) do not have. I think only the new XF30mm f2.8 macro has a closer MFD. The weather sealing is a huge plus for me and because of that I sometimes think I made the wrong decision with the XS10 :(
Hi Omar great honest video. To be honest camera choice is a personal decision and preference.
And any camera system always has likes, dislikes and an I wish list. The perfect one fit camera system for all has yet to be produced.
Myself I would rather invest in glass for my fuji XT20 which I still adore. It has everything I need. Except there I go!!! Weather sealing.
Whatever Camera system you have may it give you pleasure in this wonderful world of photography. Cheers Steve

Congrats, your review is the last X100V review I'm going to watch. So I've gone from Nikon to Fuji to Sony and now back to Sony. When I owned Fuji I started off with the x-t20 and then bought an X-H1 and then eventually got rid of my x-t20 for an x-t3. I've never used a rangefinder style camera and decided when I went back to Fuji that I would get an x-t3 and either a xe3 or a xpro2 or 3 or an x100 series camera. I thought back to doing street Photography with my x-t20 and x-t3 and realized that the 23mm(35mm focal length) was the best for street Photography. I also remember how important it was to have an articulating screen. I also love macro photography so the x100v pretty much feels all of these roles. I've been using it for photo journalism and documenting the effects of Corona virus on society. So I say all this to say this, Fuji has my heart when it comes to photography and that's why I came back, anyone who's owned and loves the x100 series should take a look at this camera. I love having the features of my x-t3 in this small form factor and it really inspires me to take it with me every time I leave the house and how many cameras can we say that about. Wow XT20 with pancake lens is something I didn't know I need! @9:20
I recently got the older X100S, and honestly it is a good camera for the price (got one for $400ish) but not as great as people on RUclips made it to seem. Heck even my cheap X-A10 with 7Artisans lens seem to be more fun, if only it had a viewfinder. The XT20 with pancake lens seem to be the perfect middle ground that combines the cool retro factor but more versatility, also being able to use manual lenses is a huge plus because I love that feeling of mechanical focusing ring.
I agree with Omar , I have the xt-4 and xt30….love em both and especially love the Voightlander lenses for it… it’s like a Leica, but more powerful, because of the film sims

Personally I prefer my xpro2 for street. But I got big hands and in winter its much easier to grab and handle.
And yeah being able to change my lens is huge. Personally if I was gonna go fixed, I would be leaning to something like a Richo GRIII or even a II simply for the size.
Always had an original x100 as a travel camera. I actually shoot nikon full frame, and i just dont want to pack lenses and being choosy ect when traveling with my FF camera. the x100 has always been my travel companion and getting the x100V was definitely a huge upgrade to the point where i can make prints with the x100V
Thank you, this video was for me, I'm looking for my first Fujifilm portable camera and now I am leaning towards the X-T30 or X-T20. I can't decide what would be the most sensible to go for. Maybe one of your videos can help me on that score.
I too am an X100 fan. I have owned the X100 and X100S and acquired the X100V briefly until the Nikon Z6II arrived. I then returned the X100V and have been using the Z6II ($1900) as the daily driver paired with either Z24-50 or 50/1.8. The size of the Z6II/lens was a definite drawback to more quick shots especially with the larger lens combinations. However, I recently purchased the Z-28mm/2.8 cupcake lens ($250) and, I have to say, finally have a setup that really suits my daily photo wants/needs and rivals the X100V compactness. The Nikon Z6II with Z 28/F2.8 actually performs better in my intended daily shooting and casual/travel needs than the Fuji X100V. The user settings (U1, U2, U3) allow for faster/more on the fly configuration changes. In addition, the Z6II has a better performing autofocus and video options. To be sure, my preference for the Nikon Z6II as the daily use platform is in part due to my Nikon bias, shooting 20+ years vice Fuji 10+ years and I recently upgraded from Nikon D700 to Z9 as the main body for events/action/work. By having the daily driver as the Z6II, the menu, layout, ergonomics, workflows and storage issues are same/similar and allow similar tactile feels and movements to capture images. That said, the X100V (and the X100 series), produce the best JPEGs for immediate use in my opinion. Love the color spread. While I love the Fujifilm X100V for what it is and what it does, I finally have a Nikon full format solution that better meets my day to day needs and provides greater creativity options (although at a greater cost/investment).
I totally agree with the ISO dial issue. It's almost impossible to adjust it accurately. Wish it had clicks instead of a free turn.
It's definitely a second camera for me. In no way does it replace my X-H1 which I'll use for a wide variety of things, but it replaces my X-T20 which I mostly only used with the 27mm pancake lens when I wanted something smaller.
I still have my X100T which I bought new when the first came out. No plans on upgrading, I will use it until it dies. About 60,000 shutter activations on it.

I think the T might be a cost effective way of seeing if you like the X100 concept. If you like the form factor and fixed lens, then one can upgrade. Although I haven’t 😀

The 27 is possibly the biggest sleeper lens ever made. The image quality is superb.

The XE-3 deserves more love. Same size, very similar in function. I’d go that way over the XT model if you want an interchangeable lens Fuji. And they are cheaper than most right now-$500 or less.
The xe3 is great. I was going to make mine into a fake x100v with the 27mm pancake. But that lens is so expensive... in the end I paid "just" twice the price and got an as-new x100v. Still prefer some aspects of the xe3, though, e.g. the grip. The two cameras make a great pair, though. Japan vs China, but actually the build quality is the same!
I love this camera. I love how it looks it's beautiful. The jpeg is great. But the point is it's too expensive and I still considering about it. 😂

I had the XT-2 and X-H1, the X-T2 has just been sold to make way for the X100V so now I have the X-H1 for paid work and the 100V more as my daily driver

Thanks for this Omar, really good review. Dropping the D-pad is a bit of a nuisance, I use that for film simulations, Auto-ISO selection, AF options and the Drive mode. It seems all good news (especially the new lens) apart from this change. What are you/people doing to make up for the missing D-Pad????????
Very helpful, tells me negative things I hadn't heard before. As an M3 user looking for a compact digital fixed focal length (ideally 50mm) camera the features that put me off are the heating, the touch screen, lack of custom buttons and navigation control and non-clickstop dial. Not the camera for me. I'll look at the xt.

Couldn’t agree more about the d-pad. The touchy swipey thingy on my X-H1 drove me to disable the touch screen. Maybe because I’m left eyed, my nose was getting it’s swipe on. Not good news that Fuji is heading in this direction...

this is the camera i really want, but the x-h1 i got half a year ago was, is and continues to be the camera i need ... if i had the money though, i'd get this one in a heartbeat. i'm really craving such a beautifully designed thing with a nice and flat fixed lens that i could take anywhere. i know it's not that small, but i'd be alright with just hanging it over my shoulder. and knowing this new V has an improved lens I wouldn't be satisfied with its predecessors...
Wish they did hard stops and focus/dof markers on the lens to follow through on the manual control design.
I shoot with a Fuji XE-3. I have a 27mm f/2.8 and the 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0 kit lens. I was looking to purchase the X100V because I need a wider lens on a small body, but the price is way too steep. I am now looking to buy the 18mm f/2, I think it would be the more sensible solution. I am not a pixel peeper, and I see photography as art and passion. Some of the best photos I have taken have been with very un-sharpe but with great composition or facial expressions. That is photography.

I ended up getting a Xe-3 with 27mm pancake lens for my street photography. range finder style with interchangeable lens. perfect solution for me.
That's the one I'm looking to get. I want to keep the relatively small form factor while retaining lens interchangeability. I traded my XE-1 for an XE-2 some years ago, actually, so I'm long overdue for another upgrade.
@@johnnycondor it's a nice size body for street photography and general every day carry. Too bad they are discontinuing the Xe series at least according to fuji rumors.
@@KingOkami I hadn't heard that, and I'm hoping it doesn't happen. This camera series has only gotten better, so that wouldn't seem like a good business move to me -- but then... large corporations often ignore their customer's input on things. C'est la vie!

Thank you Omar, I was looking at getting a xt30 vs a 100f, not the 100v. For any pros of the x100 series the smaller xt30 just kept coming up solid. I have a Xt3, I just wanted a smaller camera. Your reasoning followed mind. One question Omar, did the 100f get as warm as the x100v?
Excellent as always Omar but what if you already have an XT series camera and just want the ability to have a go-anywhere camera that gives you great images despite the fixed lens?
A camera that I can slip into my pocket and be unobtrusive seems destined to make me shoot more.
I have an XF10 & X-T30. Have you checked out the XF10 for budget? Images look pretty nice for a pocket camera @ about $500
I think Omar just convinced me to stay with my X100F. My wife will be thrilled that I am saving the dough.

Absolutely agree Omar. As much as the X100 series are beautiful, the XE series (for me) are the better camera, if you want a rangefinder style camera of that size. The X-E3 may not have the OVF, but in virtually every other metric, it equals and in many times surpasses the X100, plus it has the flexibility of interchangeable lenses.
I too have the X-E3 and use the 27mm a lot. It's nice to have the flexibility of interchangeable lenses that it offers. I also don't really care about OVF that much. If there is one thing I wish it had is the flip down screen for low shooting. My knees in my advanced years would really benefit from this.
Still, there's an awful lot to like about this new X100V.
