the way this under 13 minute video explains SO MANY photography concepts i learned about but never fully grasped is incredible! david's got a really knack for explaining things :D
Came for a review of the X100VI, stayed for the Kodak vs Fuji history channel and the tutorial on how colors work on our retinas in super stylized motion graphics. That's a LOT of work for just one video, man ! Awesome job ! That's an instant sub, right there !
i love how the studio channel is changing into the team reviewing the gadgets that they are passionate about with main channel production quality! Lovely animations in this one!
These camera impressions/review videos David's doing for this channel are so insanely good. I have never really even thought of getting into photography as a hobby but every time I watch one of these videos it makes me want to go buy a camera and just start shooting.
Also note: The x100VI can output 16bit tiffs as RAW conversion files. That’s big for me as I use the fuji x RAW software to output their film sims faithfully, usually with any exposure and WB adjustments or corrections. Then I use LR to mask and create grads. Now I can do that on converted Tiffs instead of jpgs!
I've watched a ton of X100VI videos over the past few days, but this is one of the best. Most other videos concentrate on just the specs, or the differences from the X100V, but you actually going into the details of why someone might want a Fujifilm camera, and then more specifically this one, I found more meaningful and impactful. I'm already sold, I already pre-ordered one from B&H on release night - but if I hadn't, you'd have sold me!
You have a gift for explaining things in the most incredibly easy to follow way. The editing and graphics in this video are of course helpful too, and so well executed. Well done.
This is exactly why I got an XT5. I saw the hype with the x100v so got a retail price XT5 when they came out. I love taking photos but I cannot be bothered with post processing. I've not got time for that. I took a recent trip to canada and I was staggered by every single photo I took, every single one looked amazing. Most of the time people are just uploading them to instagram (myself included) so being able to just immediately upload a jpeg without fuss is a great bonus.
Wow. This wasn't just a great review of a new camera - it's a fantastic high level overview of both past and current photography technology. Well done!
Wow! This is easily one of the most informational and well put together camera reviews I've ever watched and I've watched 100s of them over years. The simplicity of the explanations and the graphics integrated in the video. Insanely impressive! Loved it:)
Excellent breakdown of various nuances that may otherwise get lost among the heif 😬 Great video and also I'm thoroughly enjoying hanging out this week in Tokyo as well 🙌
This is one of the best camera review I have ever seen, if not the best. So informative and thoughtful, need to see more camera reviews/photography discussions from David.
For as complicated as this kind of stuff gets, this video did a great job of explaining the topics! Although for me the pocket king goes to the Ricoh GR xiii. Love the small form factor
Wow David, this has to be one of the most impressive camera reviews I've come across online. The level of technical detail and the presentation are truly exceptional. You should consider reviewing the same products as Marques but in this format.
I'd love to see more David and Ellis videos, photography and audio are two of my black hole sized money sink hobbies and these videos cater to that so well.
I love the nod to and appreciation for the colour scientists. The image compression and explanation of HEIF was also super interesting - appreciate the different angle you take on this camera launch
Thanks, David! I'm most grateful to learn about the HEIF standard because I saw my images in that format, and I was wondering what this new format was, left me a bit confused initially, but this sounds awesome moving forward. I too, dislike editing and have gone as far as to make a ton of presets in Lightroom to work with. Excellent video as always.
@1:26 don't forget the massive amount of youtube and photography content creator hype. They all scrambled to get their hands on one because having a x100v in the title meant instant clicks.
Another excellent explainer video from David! Really appreciate the motion graphics and sound design that help demonstrate the concepts clearly. That said, I wish there was a segment of film simulation samples that actually show and compare the thesis in the video’s title as to why it’s the internet’s favorite camera.
I appreciate that this is also doubles as a Fujifilm 101 video. I could’ve never contextualized Fuji’s film history so succinctly. It’s hard to explain the “why” with these cameras, but you make it look easy. 👏
As a photographer myself, I feel like you're absolutely right. At the end of the day, people just want to capture a vibe. And, these cameras help you do just that. Great video, David!
I think I learned more from this video than I would from watching 100 other RUclips videos. And I’ve been shooting photos since the 1970’s! Very well done and to the point.
Probably one of the best X100VI videos I’ve seen… and I’ve seen a lot of them. Thanks for taking a different approach on this. Can’t wait for mine to arrive.
I absolutely love the resources you guys put into this video, from the photography of the first frame with David to the animations to explain color science. Go Studio gooo
Who cares when you can’t buy it? I pre-ordered and paid for this camera 4 months ago, the day it was announced, and I still don’t have it. Thanks for the pitch David, but you should rethink your association with this terribly disappointing company.
David, thanks. Specifically for addressing: compression, Fuji's film history and encouraging Fuji to consider a full frame sensor. David, your ability to communicate technical information to the masses is incredible.
Seeing all these review for the x100vi makes me want it even less. I do not want a camera that every Tom, Dick and Harry now owns/wants. F fuji and their influencers.
This channel is quickly becoming my favorite RUclips channel. The clay analogy is awesome, David’s passion for the camera is contagious, and the animation and style is greatl. I don’t care about this camera, and yet I watched till the end.
Love the format - I thought I was about to watch "one more launch review" with specs and Fujifilm marketing pitch, but it was a pleasure to watch , very very instructive and well explained , efficient, great pictures and overall, a very experienced and wise opinion. Thanks a lot and congrats !! 🙂
i’ve used an X10 for years and i love it !! I got used for free and it takes great film simulation photos, it’s not amazing in the dark but its perfect as a bacpacking camera because you’re not afraid to break it, and then you use it more😊 My photography teacher had the X100V and while it is a lot better and newer, it’s also way more expensive. Im definitely going to upgrade when i can afford it but for now the X10 is still a good camera
WOW. You are a very talented and knowledgeable presenter! For a product-specific video, I agree with others - I learned so much along the way in this video. Well done! (And WHAT a camera! Been eyeing the X100 series off for years!)
David's videos on camera and image concepts are ones I enjoy the most from this channel, huge kudos. And yes, I one of the many who tried to buy an X100V the past year and couldn't find it online 🙃
This is undoubtly the best video on what this camera and the hype is about. It really gets to the core of what people love about it and the technical history is beautifully explained. Besides that I really love your style of shooting and editing ^^ Thank you for making this awesome video! :3
I came here for the camera review. Thanks. I also really appreciate the HEIF explanation. I haven't seen this anywhere else and I stopped shooting RAW when I didn't want to edit *every* picture.
I think this really nails the answer to the question I've seen on so many other videos about why a little fixed lens camera is so sought after. I love my x100v for all the main reasons you mention, namely the small form factor and the wonderful images straight out of the camera (I enjoyed the dive into why Fuji handles colors so well!) because I don't want to sit down at my computer editing photos of my day out with friends or weekend away like I used to when I would lug a full frame kit around everywhere. A camera like this takes out so many steps between taking a photo and enjoying the finished product, and I'm especially looking forward to how the IBIS will expand its capabilities into better lowlight situations!
I'm so glad you dove into chroma subsampling. Not everyone knows what it is or what it means, so im glad you included such a beautiful explanation of it
This was genuinely the most informative video I’ve seen on this camera on all of RUclips. Fujifilm needs to send you a check after this one. Subscribe.
Very easy to understand and thoroughly explained video about the camera I am considering to buy. @ 07:30 I see what I believe is our national mountain, Stetinden, up in the northern part of Norway where I live. Thank you for visiting us!
Mine just shipped. I know nothing about the camera but I'm positive that it will bring back my love for photography. The only thing that probably will bother me in the beginning is that it's not full frame and my love for full frame is very strong. But I'm so exited that the camera "is what it is". I don't have to bother with picking out lenses, changing lenses, carrying around heavy equipment, flipping around my backpack and digging through it to get what I need. 🥴🥴
I know very little about photography, but am now interested in this camera. Thanks for the wonderfully educational and entertaining video. True infotainment
I think a really underrated feature you didn’t mention is the ability to compose in the 5:4 and 4:3 aspect ratio in camera. People would claim that you can just do that in post but composing in 5:4 or 4:3 is far more advantageous than doing it later in editing software. I think that’s huge for not only photographers who prefer those aspect ratios but also for people who gravitate to posting most or all of their pictures on Instagram, which has the native 5:4 vertical aspect ratio. As Todd Hido once said, “measure twice, cut once.”
I love the molding clay analogy for raw vs jpg
Boss here😉
yupp.. Durvid brings out his best when it comes to cameras. well done studio!
You're truly the analogy man
Your last two chapters in this video are not correctly visible.
Thanks dad
the way this under 13 minute video explains SO MANY photography concepts i learned about but never fully grasped is incredible! david's got a really knack for explaining things :D
The editing/motion graphics of this video is insane
gotta credit the audio too
Didn't expect to see you here Boom
I greatly appreciate that you didn't make this a run of the mill X100VI review. I learned a lot of useful information. Thanks a lot!
Came for a review of the X100VI, stayed for the Kodak vs Fuji history channel and the tutorial on how colors work on our retinas in super stylized motion graphics.
That's a LOT of work for just one video, man ! Awesome job ! That's an instant sub, right there !
Definitely love having a proper photographer on the team for these reviews! I have been waiting for this camera!
Thanks for the nod 🤝🤝 great review as always. Your camera reviews are among my favorites
who the freak did the motion graphics in this vid. unreal
i love how the studio channel is changing into the team reviewing the gadgets that they are passionate about with main channel production quality! Lovely animations in this one!
Lowkey David is the best reviewer on RUclips. I absolutely love you talking cameras brother.
These camera impressions/review videos David's doing for this channel are so insanely good. I have never really even thought of getting into photography as a hobby but every time I watch one of these videos it makes me want to go buy a camera and just start shooting.
Killed it David! One of your best camera videos yet!
Also note:
The x100VI can output 16bit tiffs as RAW conversion files. That’s big for me as I use the fuji x RAW software to output their film sims faithfully, usually with any exposure and WB adjustments or corrections. Then I use LR to mask and create grads. Now I can do that on converted Tiffs instead of jpgs!
That is so sick! I've always wanted to do that with my Pro2
is the x100vi the first to do that in the fuji line?
@@JacobChristiansen1 xt4 was the first. Xt3 was not updated to do the same despite same sensor and processor.
David you are SOOOO talented in explaining topics u are so clearly passionate about I absolutely love these
You have a gift for explaining things in the most incredibly easy to follow way. The editing and graphics in this video are of course helpful too, and so well executed. Well done.

Wow. This wasn't just a great review of a new camera - it's a fantastic high level overview of both past and current photography technology. Well done!
Hands down one of the best, down to earth, video about a new camera I've seen. And I've seen A LOT !
Wow! This is easily one of the most informational and well put together camera reviews I've ever watched and I've watched 100s of them over years. The simplicity of the explanations and the graphics integrated in the video. Insanely impressive! Loved it:)
Excellent breakdown of various nuances that may otherwise get lost among the heif 😬 Great video and also I'm thoroughly enjoying hanging out this week in Tokyo as well 🙌
Dropped right after the pre orders. Love that David is the camera guy, amazing video!
This is one of the best camera review I have ever seen, if not the best. So informative and thoughtful, need to see more camera reviews/photography discussions from David.
Love the style of this review: layedback, movie-like b-roll, lots of pictures and no useless specs. (+10 points for the clay analogy)
David’s videos are always ridiculously well done 🔥
Came for a camera review, ended up learning so much more! Explanation and storytelling is on point 💯
For as complicated as this kind of stuff gets, this video did a great job of explaining the topics! Although for me the pocket king goes to the Ricoh GR xiii. Love the small form factor
This content is so good. From a creative perspective alone, it’s legit. Great job on keeping a geeky subject SUPER watchable.
Wow David, this has to be one of the most impressive camera reviews I've come across online. The level of technical detail and the presentation are truly exceptional. You should consider reviewing the same products as Marques but in this format.
Wow this is one of the best RUclips videos I've seen in a while. Marques needs to give David and anyone else who worked on this some love and a raise!
I never thought I’d love cameras/photography this much, Thanks David!
pre-ordered mine and I am SO excited. wanted an X100V but was not willing to pay the markup to get one second hand. can't wait for it to arrive!
The way you simplified and shared all that information is next to none. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I felt like I knew a lot about photography and my cameras, but this video was so informative and enjoyable to watch! Thanks David! ❤📸
I'd love to see more David and Ellis videos, photography and audio are two of my black hole sized money sink hobbies and these videos cater to that so well.
Whenever David gets a dedicated video, I end up learning about a totally new topic. Love the way you passionately explain things brother.
I love everything about this video- the aesthetics, the animations, the explanations and the enthusiasm.
Dude, what an incredible summation...fantastic video.
@1:26 don't forget the massive amount of youtube and photography content creator hype. They all scrambled to get their hands on one because having a x100v in the title meant instant clicks.
Easily the most informative camera review and general digital photography video I've ever seen. Love this.
Another excellent explainer video from David! Really appreciate the motion graphics and sound design that help demonstrate the concepts clearly.
That said, I wish there was a segment of film simulation samples that actually show and compare the thesis in the video’s title as to why it’s the internet’s favorite camera.

This was the first thing I've ever pre-ordered. So excited. Seeing this video launch after it was announced made me happy
As a photographer myself, I feel like you're absolutely right. At the end of the day, people just want to capture a vibe. And, these cameras help you do just that. Great video, David!
The full production of this video is a huge upgrade from the usual behind the scenes type videos
I think I learned more from this video than I would from watching 100 other RUclips videos. And I’ve been shooting photos since the 1970’s! Very well done and to the point.
Ouch, AU$2800 in Australia...
what a nice way how you go in depth for this video. providing context and history while you braking down the popularity of this camera series.
Studio fast at it again ❤
this is so amazing. I cannot believe I didn't find this channel sooner!!!!
1am upload is wild
Camera embargo was just lifted
This is the clearest, most well presented, explanation of RAW vs JPG I've ever seen!
People calling X100 pocketable are the same people calling iPad pocketable
The only person fitting it in their pocket is Shaq.
Mostly silly Americans
Same people calling a 2k camera cheap
He did say “jacket pocket”
Probably one of the best X100VI videos I’ve seen… and I’ve seen a lot of them. Thanks for taking a different approach on this. Can’t wait for mine to arrive.
I'm glad it's not Apple's stupid graph.

This video is so good. The information, the graphics, the animations, the transitions, all of it. So. Good.
Love the format - I thought I was about to watch "one more launch review" with specs and Fujifilm marketing pitch, but it was a pleasure to watch , very very instructive and well explained , efficient, great pictures and overall, a very experienced and wise opinion. Thanks a lot and congrats !! 🙂
just switched all my sims over to heif bc I've never seen/heard this explained in such an easily digestible way. ty.
i’ve used an X10 for years and i love it !! David's videos on camera and image concepts are ones I enjoy the most from this channel, huge kudos.
And yes, I one of the many who tried to buy an X100V the past year and couldn't find it online 🙃
Classic David video, these are always my favorite kind of video from the studio!
What an excellent blend of technical detail and comprehensible, succinct explanations. Great video, thank you!
First time watcher here, i love the animations and the informations you gave. Subscribed!
This video is great; the story is delivered very well; the concepts, the graphics. I really enjoyed it.
Great video about photography, image files, and the hype! Love to see David's passion in the video.
Wow. Just brilliant review. I learnt a lot than I was expecting to. Thank you David
This might hold the spot in my heart for “best-written RUclips video” now
I try to write most of my camera videos on this channel like this, and I have some video essays of similar structure on my personal channel 🙂
Felt like I went back to school on this, great video !
Wow, fantastic review David!
Loved the explanation. Knew what raw was for all this time but never fully understood it. Keep these videos coming.
This video was phenomenally made. kudos to everyone involved.
I think this really nails the answer to the question I've seen on so many other videos about why a little fixed lens camera is so sought after. This video was truly amazing. I love the detailed explanation about it and it shows how passionate you guys are about tech and cameras
I'm so glad you dove into chroma subsampling. Not everyone knows what it is or what it means, so im glad you included such a beautiful explanation of it
Motion design/animation is always top tier for these videos, love the studio style for explaining complex camera functions 🙌🏼
This was genuinely the most informative video I’ve seen on this camera on all of RUclips. Fujifilm needs to send you a check after this one. Subscribe.
Always love the photography content David! Very informational. I’ve been influenced lol
Wow, this is one of the best most interesting camera review/overview videos I’ve seen in a bit! Learned so much. Subbed!
Damn. This was extremely well explained. This dude’s got it, whatever MKBHD has, he’s at that level of presentation skills
Very easy to understand and thoroughly explained video about the camera I am considering to buy.
@ 07:30 I see what I believe is our national mountain, Stetinden, up in the northern part of Norway where I live. Thank you for visiting us!
Of all the camera videos I've watched, this is my favorite. Excellent presentation ❤
One of the best videos about fuji that ive seen nowadays
Mine just shipped. I know nothing about the camera but I'm positive that it will bring back my love for photography. This channel is my new favorite channel… kuddos dude!!
I know very little about photography, but am now interested in this camera. Thanks for the wonderfully educational and entertaining video. True infotainment
This is probably the best video that’s gonna be made about this camera (and there’s gonna a billion of em!)
The production quality on this! Even though I came here to watch a review, ended up enjoying it more than a video essay
Really hope we can get HEIF support retroactively through firmware updates - would love to have this option on the x100V!
