Fuji are crazy putting such a price on fix lense camera. I do understand Leica do that but Fuji. Gimme a break. Ricoh are also pushing their luck with griii price range. Both shouldn't be above 700-800 USD.
I suggest that you keep this in mind if you are considering Fuji's new X100IV camera. We are living in an age of insane, intense hype, and Fuji has chosen to be part of it. Think about that as you wait weeks for your new camera to arrive. Fujifilm has taken to over-hype of their cameras in recent years, a "Trump-Apple" type of tactic that's completely unnecessary for a quality camera except... in the case of Fuji cameras, the U.S. side of the company is run by promoters and hucksters, not people who have ever enjoyed taking photos. Hence, Fuji hype. When you stop for a moment and take stock of the new X100VI, you will recognize that the latest model is little more than a glorious point-and-shoot. It's not a "pocket camera" as has been claimed because it's too large. Few photographers who use such auto cameras will ever need 40 megapixel. And, no photographer of merit needs all the cute bells and whistle features. Remember, the latest X100 has the same lens that the X100 had back in 2011 when the model was introduced. How about we leave the hype and jive to the politicians and demand that if Fuji introduces a new camera, they manufacture the inventory to meet demand.
I thought of getting Fuji X100VI camera for those times when I want to have something small. But then I compared it to an equivalent Samyang 35/2.8 and instead added it to my Sony A7Cii. The difference in size/weight is very insignificant, the image quality of FF is a lot better, of course, and the difference in price is pretty big also. So unless you are a diehard Fuji fan, or you want just one camera with builtin lens, Fuji doesn't make sense, so it's a pretty niche market.
5:50 I am SO glad they didn't put a selfie screen on it, the kind that hangs off to the side. I'm not a fan of them. They have their place on more video-centric cameras, like a Sony ZV-E10. For a camera famous for street photography a tilting screen that stays behind the camera is so much better. Plus they can make tilting scenes now that tilt up now for selfies, like my Sony RX100 V. The screen is one reason I chose the x100vi over the A7Cii. I'm very happy with the screen and I preordered my X100vi last night.
Still requiring an adapter and filter to achieve weather sealing is such a miss. Half-assing the card slot and not improving the viewfinder are almost as annoying. So stupid to not be able to apply your own film recipes in camera, too. There's no reason they can't do this. Also hate to see production shifted to China. It seems like Fuji did the bare minimum just to get production going again. Sad.
@@7743dustin you can; that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying you can't apply those custom recipes to raw files after the fact in camera (like you can with the stock simulations), and you can't bracket custom recipes (like you can with the stock simulations).
why all this China production hate if Japanese population is shrinking and they can't meet demandfor 2 years now ... prefer that over raising prices to 2500€
@@a.b.c.d.e because China is an ethics wasteland. Putting any money into their economy is a bad idea, let alone the money tied to the production of multiple high-end cameras.
I have the Ricoh GRIIIX and the Nikon Zf. Now I have my copy of the Fuji X100VI because the only way I could see one to decide on one was to buy it. I expected to either return it or just sell it. I’ve since changed my mind and now it’s in my arsenal. It really is great in a lot of ways. Folks keep complaining about the price but there is a bit more in it than the Ricoh. Regardless of where it’s manufactured there is still the added costs of IBIS, 40mp sensor, and let’s not forget the massive inflation in general since 2020. A $200 price jump isn’t too bad. As for everyone crying about “influencers” ruining it, let it go already and enjoy a camera for your own needs/preferences/etc. Too much whining out there and a lot of it is based on frustrations because they can’t get one. That’s not a fault of the camera.
Not sure why Fuji thought it wasn't necessary to send a few youtubers abroad with their shiny new cameras.. you know, to a place where there's actually nice scenery and something other than dreary gray skies.
hey Kai. I met you once when you were in Redwolf. I was hoping i could talk to english speaking salesperson thankfully youre the one who attended to me . youre a nice person and accomodating. tahts way back in 2009 i wasnt sure if youre working there or reviewing something
My issue with 40mp on an apsc sensor is the noise in low light. All I wanted with the x100vi was IBIS, everything else doesn't really add much, for me, at least.
Great review - good to know that when optical view is used, any AI peaces out. I'll stick with my x100s and use the $1599 for a trip to Tbilisi instead. Peace. edit: doh, I wrote too soon. Ibis? That's tempting.
@@nickthaskater Yeah, I still recognize that particular cope from when the R8 came out and didn't have IBIS. Oh boy, I can't wait to bulk up my pocketable fixed-lens camera with the additional purchase of some flaky piece of technology!
Hi Kai, this new Fuji will go like hot cakes especially having IBIS. I like the colours from that Mural photo, and the variety of Film Simulations are cool. Thanks for this video 😊
I think you might overestimate how much people on TikTok (gigantic suction hose for personally identifiable information made in China) care about where their cameras come from.
@@rh7828 If I had the choice? Of course I would pick Made in Japan. But I would do so to avoid indirectly supporting a one-man dictatorship, not because I would expect the Chinese-made version to be of inferior quality.
So for me the reason I would love a flip screen of some sort is because it makes taking self portraits on a tripod on vacation muuuch easier. The app tends to lag or loose connection.
Fuji is just not living in reality anymore. Every company is trying to get in on inflation, just for the sake of greed, in a world where inflation has ravaged peoples disposable income. Being made in China now, just further exposes the grift. $2000 for a fixed lens point and shoot, would be laughably bonkers if it wasn't soo insulting. Yes, people want the camera....but no one wants the price. Sure, there will be people who buy it, but for most of them it will ultimately be a bad purchase. Let's also look at it from a metrical perspective of photos themselves. People take lots of pictures, but how many actually count? How many are the keepers, the golden ones? Maybe over the course of a year, less than 50. But let's look at it over the camera's entire reasonable shelf life, of around 5 years (shelf life being not how long it's usable, but how long the IQ is reasonably modern compared to newer offerings). So let's say you get even 50 "golden" images out of it a year, which is a very high number for even a great photographer. That's about 250 images over that shelf life. Or at the price of this body, about $8 per image. That's a VERY expensive "per image" cost for a typical consumer. But realistically the number of "golden" images will likely be less than 100. Which makes it more like $20 per golden image. When you look at it in its totality, that's $2000 just to make 100-250 images you might print and hang on your wall....but who has space for that many images on their wall? No one would bother. Of course in the modern world, that means they just sit online digitally. The issue is the same though. Anyone can scroll through and view 250 images in less than a couple of minutes....and then completely forget about every image they saw. And all that costs the photographer not only their time and effort....but $2000 to boot. Of course the camera does video too, but since it's a fixed lens camera, no one is really going to use this for professional work. It's at best just going to be some youtubers, where the cost might not matter much....but for the regular consumer? The cost is outrageous and unreasonable for what they ultimately get out of it, not just from a product package perspective, but you must also consider the totality of what a person will ultimately end up with from it after years of use, and that is often not worth anywhere near the original price tag.
I feel like this is now the kind of camera you buy as an accessory for your outfit, just like Leica cameras. No artist has this kind of money for this kind of camera. This world feels more and more dumb.
It's costing too much now. Think it's time to bring back the X70, give it hybrid viewfinder, ditch LCD screen, and only basic video mode. Make it a camera revolve around the fun of taking photos using hybrid viewfinder and sell it at a lower price point.
The best argument about the selfie-screens - one really bad detail on a handful of full frame cameras (sony a7iv for example) is that the screen is not easily adjusted for street photography or such.. got me very interested in this camera now. 😅
the ibis is more for photo instead of video instead. Fujifilm doesn't manage to optimize it for video, but for photos--let's be honest, this is more of a classic photo camera than a hybrid camera--it can work solidly. Anyway, its main competitors, the Leicas, don't include IBIS.
From a mainstream consumer standpoint, any camera that's not a smartphone is inherently 'vintage' - it's doing things the old-fashioned way. It's crazy that so many camera makers haven't clued in to that fact and adjusted their product designs accordingly...
overhyped is ok, but overpriced is not ok. IBIS or OIS is already on market since the last decade, so putting it on the Mark VI to justify its higher price is not ok for me. nonetheless fujifilm smartly packaged the VI with the higher res APSC sensor and other bells and whistles to make it more appealing for the TikTok mass.
Perspective from Jan 2025.. It didn't in fact get more available, at least not in Germany. But finally! I managed to get one from my local store. Happy days
Just came here from PetaPixel review because I thought every photo looked bad and wanted to check other review and it's equally bad. Worse than iPhone colour science...
up until now everybody was singing praises of how good the AF on the V is. Suddenly, they are all telling us that THIS is a huge improvement in AF from the V... You can not trust whatever they are saying, they will always have a slightly tweaked opinion on the cameras. I had the F version of this camera. Everybody was fainting over how phenomenal the camera is. The AF was complete rubbish! I sold it after 10 months. Hoping that sony will release a new version of the DSC-RX1R. I would def invest in that.
@@nickthaskater: Production costs will be cheaper in China, yet the camera price has increased. Same battery, yet new features drawing power from that battery, yet somehow it doesn't overheat. Does it sound feasible to you?
@@StevenKeery why would it necessarily overheat? It's a larger sensor and IBIS along with a more efficient processor. There's no reason for it to suddenly overheat.

As a happy X100F owner, this has made me a little excited about potentially getting it in the future. I haven't had GAS in years (hence the F and an XT2) but for pure shiney and newness...I want one and I only just found out about it.
I sold F to get V and regretted. Sold V since to buy Xpro3 which was much better fit for me. Now I would rather buy another F than V or VI. I think the new ones lost some of the charm.
@@rlysakowski Very valid. I use my F to this day and I got it a few months after release. There isn't a reasonable argument for me to upgrade other than GAS and that speaks well to how good the F is. I legitimately think that only someone who has the Finepix first gen would gain something by buying the new camera.
@@balthorpayne Also an F owner who refuses to upgrade. I like the F body style more, and while the autofocus and close-focus isn't as good, I got mine for $700 the year after they came out. I like the increase in megapixels and IBIS, but I do NOT like that the VI is made in China. Definitely won't be buying it new. If my F died today, I'd get the V more than likely. Or possibly another F.
@@justinkingery2489I don't know how about the MP increase. I often (always) shoot at iso 800 and notice that with the XT5 I have a lot of chromatic noise (jpg), to the point that it's really annoying. Never had this issue with XT3, X100F, X100V, etc. Definitely not a fan of this MP increase.
Can someone explain to me why a fully rotating (to front) screen isn't standard by now? Why do certain manufacturers not integrate a rotating (TOUCH!) screen to make things like vlogging or selfies easier?
Overall the most popular cameras all have flippy touch screens now. It means some photographers are unhappy because they can’t tilt the display without flipping it out, goi can please both crowds at the same time like on some of the new sony cameras and I think a Fuji had it too, but that adds a lot of mechanical complexity to the hinge. This means it probably wouldn’t look as sleek on this camera body, it also adds cost I suppose.

Not sure about that. I still have my X100T and I still use it a lot. But I think this will be a significant upgrade in many ways.
Lol! Better sensor, more megapixels, ibis, better processor, ND filters, more versatile at crop.. much better camera than it’s predecessors

@@ugly-casanovaYeah, i love my S but the extra MP would be a game-changer for me.
DigitalRev was my Top Gear in cameras back in the day!
Fuji cameras are fun to shoot with, but £1,599 for an APS-C fixed lens camera is just insanity. £1,100 sure.
Damn, it makes me so happy that Kai and Lok remain close friends. Those old DigitalRev antics kept me amused so much back in the day!
I still have the original X100:) looking forward on upgrading to X100IV soon. Hopefully anyways.
10 years later both Kai and Lok are my go-to guys for camera reviews.
I bought an used A7C with the Samyang 35/2.8 for 900€. The Fuji X100V goes for 1200€ on the used market. The X100VI for 1700€.
That 3 umbrellas shot is great, really great
Yeah keeping my x100v. The updates are minimal at best, and do not seem to affect picture quality. Thanks for the great review as always!
Sad.
Wait you can’t make your own recipes like on the xt5?

Yeah, what's up with sending it to this guy in one of the world's most popular cities? He's only got 1M subs. Dummies.

In Italy the street price is 1629€ sad to see the other price
Kai with the raincoat integrated glasses looks like straight out of Bladerunner 👻
My issue with 40mp on an apsc sensor is the noise in low light. All I wanted with the x100vi was IBIS, everything else doesn't really add much, for me, at least.
7:10 That guy in the red jacket was definitely eyeballing you there.
How did it move to made-in-China, and yet the price increased?
Fuji looking to push those profits I guess.
Ricoh GR IIIx will likely be my next cam.
Great review - good to know that when optical view is used, any AI peaces out. I'll stick with my x100s and use the $1599 for a trip to Tbilisi instead. Peace. edit: doh, I wrote too soon. Ibis? That's tempting.
Buy a small gimbal.

Kai and Lok - you guys rock!
Make it a camera revolve around the fun of taking photos using hybrid viewfinder and sell it at a lower price point.
i want Kai's raincoat more than the x100 vi lol
I thought I was the only one.
It looks like a C.P. Company Jacket. Quite expensive.
The best argument about the selfie-screens - one really bad detail on a handful of full frame cameras (sony a7iv for example) is that the screen is not easily adjusted for street photography or such.. got me very interested in this camera now. 😅
No way on earth would I pay what they will ask for that fixed lens camera.
Good, then you are not in front of me on the waiting list.
@@croaker4747 Have at it!
Thanks!
With IBIS, I need this camera now. Oh, until I see Fuji shaky IBIS. Lumix should wake up and reintroduce GX10.
the ibis is more for photo instead of video instead. Fujifilm doesn't manage to optimize it for video, but for photos--let's be honest, this is more of a classic photo camera than a hybrid camera--it can work solidly. Anyway, its main competitors, the Leicas, don't include IBIS.
Kentmem: Gordon Laing another You Tuber did a good review on his channel of this camera.
From a mainstream consumer standpoint, any camera that's not a smartphone is inherently 'vintage' - it's doing things the old-fashioned way. It's crazy that so many camera makers haven't clued in to that fact and adjusted their product designs accordingly...
$1500 for a crop sensor fixed lens 35mm f2 camera, 2.5mm jack, single card slot, made in china? Hmm. Nikon ZF anyone?
overhyped is ok, but overpriced is not ok. IBIS or OIS is already on market since the last decade, so putting it on the Mark VI to justify its higher price is not ok for me. nonetheless fujifilm smartly packaged the VI with the higher res APSC sensor and other bells and whistles to make it more appealing for the TikTok mass.

up until now everybody was singing praises of how good the AF on the V is. Suddenly, they are all telling us that THIS is a huge improvement in AF from the V... You can not trust whatever they are saying, they will always have a slightly tweaked opinion on the cameras.

As a happy X100F owner, this has made me a little excited about potentially getting it in the future. Its one of those things though where if you have any model from S to V, you are pretty much good to go.
KAI, YOURE BACK!? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@definingslawek4731 I had a fully articulating screen on my cheap canon 200D, fuji can engineer something just as simple (and probably better looking) than what canon has.
