Pro tip: if you ever buy Optima, buy them from Advance Auto, in person, and photocopy the receipt to keep one copy in the glove compartment & another in your records. Their policy is to honor warranty on the spot and pro rate it if the date on sticker has passed, meaning you might save $100 even if its "out of date"
The Photocopy is important though because their receipt paper is thermal, it will be blank in just a couple months in the summer heat if left in your vehicle. No matter where you are in the country, if your battery craps out and there is an Advanced Auto (now owns carquest) they can do the swap in just minutes.
I worked there for several years, was almost fired because I spent nearly an hour trying to find the prorate on 2 optima blue top batteries, which are very expensive, but to my surprise the customer wrote a 3 page letter and sent one copy to store managers and another to corporate. Turns out the guy owns a small fleet of fishing boats and he opened a commercial account with us following my encounter simply because I took the time to save him nearly $200 by finding the original transaction in another state.

Or get DieHard from them. I work for a company that's partnered with them, so I get discounts, and they always give me an invoice. Advanced Auto is also very very good with their warranties, and have never tried to beat around the bush. I remember when I bought an expansion tank, I forgot the lid at home and I told them to keep the lid since I forgot it, and they were willing to do that. Truly a wonderful place

Eh, get Deka instead of interstate. Interstate is more of a marketing company than anything, they don't manufacture their own.

    • @VB-bk1lh
      @VB-bk1lh 4 месяца назад

@@avoton6020 Very true, Johnson Controls sold Interstate about 5 years ago now and Interstate is a builder by proxy situation with batteries coming from all over. (They were bought out by the formerly bankrupt Exide Corp, or their parent corporation of Exide, a brand that failed roughly 10 years prior as their own brand, losing out to Interstate and Deka. The general consensus was that Exide went bankrupt to avoid the cleanup of the 100+ year site in PA, now they come back and buy Interstate). Unfortunately though they also have and maintain contracts with various OEM's and Walmart. Do a search on Clarios, Interstate, Exide, AC Delco, etc, I also believe that Ford is also again using batteries from Clarios, as is Stalantis in the US.
Deka is made by East Penn near Reading, PA, its the same company its always been. Deka, Federal, Die Hard, Duracell, Some Duralast and for a while some (regional) Walmart MAXX batteries looked to be made by East Penn. I believe those built by East Penn/Deka, have a part number that starts with 'EP'.
Personally, I've had the best luck with the East Penn batteries overall but they tend to be pricier than other brands.
I haven't seen any EP batteries at Walmart here in a while now, so maybe the EP built batteries were just in the interim while Interstate changed hands and moved manufacturing to other facilities?

optimas are good batteries. I too use the red tops because they have dual posts, GM side posts and top posts. I get ten years out of them easily. When new and good they sit idle at 12.8v the blue tops are 13.2v. The only trick with them is they need a higher voltage charge than standard batteries and charging systems quite often put out. Upper 13s to low 14v keeps them happy. Also optima makes their own charger and it can recondition the batteries a cell at a time and give them a second new life

I followed the advice of some folks who are smarter than I, and went to my local Batteries Plus Bulbs store. At that time (no idea if this is still true) they were carrying a rebranded battery from what most at the time considered the best battery available. I believe the maker was Northstar, but I could be wrong on that. Either way the manufacturer wanted 350 each for their batteries, but BPB was selling their rebranded batteries for 150 each on sale. I needed two as well for my 24v Cummins. Never had to deal with their warranty though thankfully, and they are still going strong. You simply cannot be expected to know what you don’t know….

I had one that kept twisting the center out of the flexplate so I had to learn a trick to change the flex plate more easily (some call it a flywheel) on an automatic. If you use two long bolts in the bottom holes that fit the thread and pull the other bolts out as well as the crossmember so it can slide the transsion back far enough to remove the bolts from the torque converter and then the bolts that hold the flex plate to the crank. Some times you have to shim the flex plate and once I figured that out it quit eating flex plates. By using the long bolts you don't have to take the transmission all the way out. Saves a lot of work! Just an idea for the future reference department that you hope you never need to use! Good luck with the battery company. I really enjoy your content with your 170 pound puppy and your 18 pound dog(just sounds funny) keep up the good work!

I gave up on optima , in anything, yrs ago when they changed from pure lead. I use NAPA legend AGM now and no issues. Plus they’re cheaper. The last pair I replaced in my diesel lasted 7yrs before starting to crank slowly when cold cold.
And if there were an issue, there’s a NAPA everywhere.

I tried the Optima route in the early 2000's and sales guy sold me on them eventually. Lots of money for a battery that lasted about 8 months, several (7) batteries in total in all my vehicles and even my boat. Tried like hell to get them replaced after several months of back and forth I ended up just buying some other new batteries, I'll never go back to Optima.

I've bought new batteries thru whichever towing company has the area contract for AAA Auto Club. I have them install the batteries as part of their roadside service. I have never had any problems with the new batteries. I can't imagine warranty nightmares with the Auto Club involved. The best $160. I spend every year, for that membership, no lie.

Back in the mid-2000’s Optima was the best. Red/Yellow/Blue tops would get you 7 or more years of even hard abuse. They were extremely expensive but worth it.
Then they moved their manufacturing from the US to Mexico and the quality went through the floor. When it took me 3 tries/trips to the auto parts store to get one good yellow top I quit using them in all my vehicles, trailers, ATVs and side by sides. Greed cost them my business and I’m sure many others.

  • @ShredPile

dry cell optima are super sensitive to over charging and the warranty is based on the weight of the battery when it is returned because if you boil the goo out there is now way to put it back in.
I've only ever had luck with optimas in items with extremely simple electrical systems like tractors or generators where there is no chance ever of a slow drain.
    sorry about your troubles brother.

Odyssey is the company that invented the tech for Optima batterys. Optima used to be a good battery until they sold out to I believe Mexico. They have been garbage ever since. Good news is odyssey still makes really great batteries and has good customer service. I use them and am completely happy, last a very long time.

Figured out the best battery is the cheapest battery for myself. I usually get rural King specials nowadays. Most of them come from the same few Factories.

My first and probably last optima battery I bought in maybe 2009 and I didn't get rid of it until about 2018 when I let somebody else have that vehicle. Told them they might need a new one but it still seemed to be going just fine. Probably helps that it only had to start a four-cylinder and I had swapped out the alternator to put out a little more amperage

I have a 1972 chevelle with a 454 big block and bought an optima when I first built the car. Fast forward 2 years and I left the battery in the car after running it in my non heated storage shed(at the time I ran it the snow was melting outside and it was a warm sunny day) it got cold again shortly afterwards and the winter weather carried on for another month or so. When I pulled the car out in the spring(roughly 2 months after I left the battery in there) the battery was dead and wouldn’t hold a charge. I took it in to Canadian Tire where I bought it with no receipt and the service desk employee was able to use my rewards card that I used when purchasing the battery for the warranty and gave me a new battery on the spot. That was last year I have nothing but good things to say about optima and their warranty program, though it seems like you have had bad luck just know there service isn’t like that 100% of the time

Try putting jump cables on it for a few mins then connect your battery charger. My charger won't recognize a completely dead battery. After I put cables on for a few mins and take off it gives it enough juice the charger detects it

Back in my blogging days I had a problem with a service company. At the first and last face to face meeting (after they refused to satisfy me over several phone calls), I started the conversation something like this:
First, as full disclosure and not meant to be a threat, I want you to know that I am an internet blogger with a good number of followers. I write about all manner of things, both good and beware.
The two people I was meeting with looked at each other. I smiled politely.
Short meeting. Mission accomplished, including a small good will compromise on my part.
    😂

Had a Car Audio shop and we used to sell Optima this was around 2009 and their quality has absolutely gone to shit. In the course of about two years we just quit selling them because we would get them back constantly. There's a company called Decca and they make batteries for dozens of different companies you might want to try them out. If you buy from them directly it's a lot cheaper and they're damn good batteries.

Optima is currently owned by Johnson controls. Sadly they do a pass poor job when it comes to product quality. I use to warranty them alot. If you want an AGM battery, I would recommend a brand called Deka. They're made by penstate in Pennsylvania. I have seen they're bottom of the line 18 month warranty lead batteries last a decade.

Just take it into wherever you bought it. They will do a warrantee as a distributor. Did that with motorcraft battery, returned to Ford and they did it under warranty. Unfortunately it's under the new warranty terms now and instead of 72 months, it's now 36 with no prorated after.

Man i hope you get your truck going soon. Thats a sweet truck. My favorite body style. Of all time. And i like them both but i def like the gmc better. I like the gmc front end grill ect. And the gmc usually got better interiors like power windows seats ect.. i have a 1500 rc swb 4x4 1990 cab n chasis redone everywhere else with 93 parts with a 95 or newer front end clip with aftermarket billlet grill. Its all custom aurora black with grey stripes down middle of top n cowl hood. I love my moon gauges there my favorites..altho i am a bigger fan of everything else but the gauges on the later years. Upgraded interior antilocks ect ect.. they should have kept the junky but cool lookin moon gauges thru out all the year renditions of this truck. It should've ben like a body style specific thing that was intergrated into the newer interiors and steyed with this body style thru the years. That would be cool. To me any way. I know a lot of people hate the moon gauges.
Goodluck my man on your truck. We need videos of it doing some work when she gets back to purring.. maybe it is by the time of this comment...
