Thank you for this video! I accidentally ran my Xbox upside down destroying a copy of Forza and also misaligning something in the optical drive. This video along with your cleaning video helped me get it back in running shape. I will say though that I had to take it apart a second time because the lever we pressed to manually open the disc tray did not go all the way back into position after closing so I had to manually push it to the position I found it in. Apart from that all good! Warning to all: DON'T USE IT UPSIDE DOWN!!! 🤦♂️
Excellent After cleaning my lens and blowing dust out of everything. The xbox is working like a charm. I used a q tip on the lens with alcohol. I took a chance, lol. I gently gently swabbed tho.
Do you add lithium grease on the sliding mechanism? So many 360s I'm finding have a prpblem woth the drive not opebing now but the belts don't look deformed or dirty so I wander if that is just the issue?
Despite cleaning I still have to insert the disc multiple times before it finally reads the disc. Is this a sign that the laser might need replacement?
That is a sign your laser assembly is dying. I think there might be a way to calibrate the pots a little bit, don't quote me on that, but yeah sooner or later it'll die out completely.

i cant find any videos on this without them being already removed but i need to transfer my top ring to my old 360 disk tray because the replacement doesnt work and i need the cd tray top spinner on the lid and thats it
I have no idea how to recondition the belt I tried to search “how to recondition rubber band” and all I’m getting is magic tricks pls help my Xbox is already taken apart
I had the same question and another video said to put the belt in hot or boiling water and that should shrink it back if it is stretched out. I haven't tested this so try it at your own discretion.
@@HaloGrunt15I can confirm this does sometimes work. I did it to 2 original Xboxes and it fixed the jammed drives. Obvious your mileage may vary, all depends on the belt.

The grease on the rods are lubricant to let the mechanism move freely. Cleaning dirty lubricant is good, but you need to apply more fresh lubricant.
What type of lubricant would you recommend? I see conflicting views on white lithium grease and silicone based grease. I'm sure what to go with.
Super Lube 21030 Synthetic Grease is what I use.

My 360 is weird. It reads some games but doesn’t read others.
Your laser is dying. It’s better to replace laser.
Either your laser is on its way out or it’s an issue with the games

you should really regrease the sliding rod after cleaning it, typically white lithium grease is used on disc drives for the most part

I can't get the drive to turn enough to be able to open the disc tray manually. I feel like if I pull much harder it will break. Any tips?
Push a straightened paperclip into the first hole from the left/top until it pushes the gear enough for the tray to open.
Replace the cheap belt that opens and closes the tray and yes to open it initially the paper clip
