Helped me a lot. And don't skip any steps, the one with the fan and cooling is really important. And don't worry about possibly breaking some plastic pins, when everything is back in tact, it doesn't affect the console's work.

Just a heads up for anyone watching this in the future, you'll need a T10 as a T8 is a touch too small. That said thank you for this tutorial, it's helped me clean my "new" 360 i picked up at a yard sale.

Thank you for the guide, it was extremely helpful. For those of us that have never taken apart our 360 before I ran into a bit of a snafu when putting it back together that I think is helpful to mention for everyone... When reconnecting the cable that connects to the power button make sure to remove any little bit of dust before clipping it back in because I put it all back together and tried to turn it on and it wouldn't turn on so I opened it back up, cleaned that off and make sure it is all the way in... and it turned on no problem. I was concerned I caused an issue deeper in the machine so don't fret this may be what happened to you. Now its working like a charm!

Man, this video helped me a lot, my Xbox had stopped recognizing the hard drive. I was so close to shitting myself since they are kind of rare and expensive but a good cleaning later and it is back to business as usual. Good thing the hard drive is easy to take off and clean without needing to gut out the whole console.

    • @redcompanyINC

@@dragonslayerps4134 anything electronic in 2020/2021 was in short supply, and beside spare parts for the xbox 360 had been out of production for a while already, and the only thing you could find were parts someone gutted out of their old consoles.
While used components are easier to find, they are always a gamble if they are going to work or last, specially if they were heavily used or not taken care of, which you have no control if you buy used.

Great video! I got a used xbox 360 S at a second-hand bookstore, so I needed to clean it. I found I could also use a T10 Star (Hex) bit. T8 size doesn't come in standard drill bit sets, but T10 does. So if anyone is worried they won't have the right size bit, if you have a standard drill bit set, you'll be fine.

I just did this and there's an easier way than popping all that plastic apart!
All you need is a small Flathead eyeglasses kit or just a small thin flathead. Press it through the big rectangle openings around the plastic as you will find when you pry in and outward you'll feel the tabs release, there's no need to pop off the middle plastic and break it.

I have a old xbox 360 slim that really needs cleaning and one side cover disappeared(meaning you can literally see the inside of the console btw the Chrome part is still there and I don't know what happened to it because I was not the only owner of the console their has been like 2 people before me who owned it so idk what happened to it but whatever) and the other side cover is half on and half off so it should be easy to take apart and it has a lot(and I mean a lot) of dust in it and probably needs a thermal paste change yet somehow the thing still works fine and has never had overheating issues(maybe because both side cover are mostly gone meaning more air flow)but it does get hot pretty fast like the moment you turn it on you can put you hand on top of the fan and the thing is as hot as a heater but like I said before somehow it still works fine but to be honest I'm probably never going to clean it because I'm lazy but I still loved the video(also this is one of my biggest comments ever so yeah. Also another thing is your probably never going read this Vigerp but if you did it would be surprising because of how old this video is).

You did NOT have to remove the panel that were attached by rivets...all you needed to do was to insert a flat head screwdriver in the panel slots (there are 6) at an angle to unhook the clips. It’s a shame that you broke the rivets. Here is the proper way to remove the end panels without breaking anything:

I did this to clean my xbox after moving it into my room. I took it apart, cleaned it and put it together exactly how you did. When I turned it on, it was doing a fast flash of the green light. ????

Thank you for uploading this video, it was really helpful and easy to follow but after I put my xbox back together it has been turning off at random times, do you have any idea on what I could have done wrong?

You might have loosened your power supply check if its plugged in all the way or if the plug to it is dusty

Yeah, it sounds to me like there might be an issue with one of the cables.

I took the fan off. It had 2 screws Holding the fan down from the top. Would that be enough to break the hard drive seal?

I tore the blue wire/ cable near the start button, the one which is attached from the front part to the console. Anyone know how should i fix it properly cause its really tiny to work on.
I just taped around it to keep it whole but dont know if it need to touch the part behind it or the part it is plugged into. And its kind hard to tape it so i dont know if the two ends are still connected

Cleaned everything exactly the same except for the disc drive, was able to repeat the problem without the disc drive. I fired it up before trying to put it back together, I plugged it in and it’s still bringing up the red light saying it will shut down to avoid damage. Any suggestions?

Ouch... the red ring of death. That is not a good one. =(
I'm afraid that the only permanent fix I know of is to replace all the solder balls on the motherboard, but that is not an easy task. That would require an expert in order to fix, and the balls need to be replaced with lead balls (to cope with the heat caused by long gaming sessions).

Went through this video to try to fix my Xbox with a red ring of death. Everything went smoothly and your video was extremely helpful but the console still has the red ring of death. Does anyone have some suggestions to fix it?

My 360 sounds incredibly loud, I guess that’s what you get when you get it secondhand and then leave it in your basement for like 4 years lol
