Still can’t find it with the time lol.
@@MrBallen what is it???
I’m staring at that moment in the video and I can’t find it lol

@@MrBallen Now that I have your attention, your channel is by far the best on RUclips. Of all your content, these videos are by far the best. Thank you for doing what you do and glad to see the channel doing so well. From one Veteran to another, you are awesome, Sir.
Must be expensive AF
If I ever have a loved one who wants to go cave diving, I will sit them down with Mr. Ballen videos until they come to their senses.
Traumatise that sense into them 😂
With proper training and lots of normal dives under their belt, it's not nearly as dangerous.
@@GryphStone But a lot of times the "rescuers" die too. And if these guys are so tough then why don't they go back in each time someone is left behind?
@@DreadMaverick2 yes, the rescuers do die at times because cave diving is an activity where one wrong move can cause disaster. That's why you get training and learn what to do in the worst case scenarios so you're much more likely to make it out. Watch Dive Talk, they even have videos reacting to a Mr. Ballen's video on cave diving, with one of the people in the story to tell the true story. They give lots of information on where people go wrong, and what you can do to greatly increase the safety of cave diving. Without the training, you're dead or lucky af. With it, you'll survive so long as you follow the rules and pay attention.
And to your second point, it is a dangerous sport. It's just not nearly as dangerous as most think so long as you have the proper training and gear. This doesn't mean you can go in unprepared, in fact it means you must be prepared before going in otherwise you're truly taking your life into your hands and hoping.
@@GryphStone I don't disagree that the training is necessary. I think I understand you. But it seems like some of these caves are so dangerous that there's nothing even the best divers can do to rescue the trapped.
A lot of the rescuers either don't want to go back in after coming back out, or don't want to search broadly in hard to reach areas, because the caves are so dangerous. A lot of the caves covered in this series sound like literal death traps.
Still though, to me, in some cases it seems like if they tied a long rope to themselves or used a weighted rope they could have saved those people or saved themselves.
I love how you never belittle any of the victims. You just simply tell the story
He's not trying to belittle the victims he is just trying to tell their story to keep their history alive hes doing them a favor and if the families can't see that that is sad but he has no disrespect or ill intent to any of these videos he only wants to share their story and share the dangers of what they do
💯💯💯 yes! A great quality.
I don’t know for sure, but I think Tetsu (I hope I spelled that right!) had terminal cancer. I feel like he wouldn’t have climbed the mountain if it weren’t for that. Poor guy.
@@coreygursley155 Who said any of that?
@@imaghost2961 Yeah, pretty sure he did. I've binged too many MrBallens in the past week so my memory is hazy, but a few days before I began Ballens, I saw a video about Tetzu. He had cancer and was most likely on some life defying recklessness facing his own mortality. It was kinda harsh at the end of that story the narrator said he was the first Japanese added to the Darwin Awards. Totally ignorant of the people who did that... people who don't have very complicated lives at all. Arrogance.
Small correction: Three classifications of volcanoes: Active, dormant, and extinct. Mt Fuji is currently listed as dormant. Also, as an Advanced Open Water diver I have done exactly one cave dive. The knowledge that I can't head straight to the surface in case of trouble has kept me out of other caves for nearly 30 years.
You are a wise person!

In TOTAL agreement, am with you there
And be thankful you're not the Like button.
Nothing Ventured, nothing gained. Eventually everyone will want to travel. The best thing to do is be knowledgeable, and prepared as all hell for it.
The fact that a specialized diver that went down for his body also ended up drowning shows just how dangerous that cave is
Exactly. Even experience won't always save people.
One would think the specialised diver would anchor in a guide line at the entrance of the cave to reduce the chances of this happening, I wonder if this was overlooked.
@@Thor_Underdunk_Caballerial guideline.. exactly what i was thinking.
If bumblefcuk divers are just going to ignore warnings everytime, putting a guideline in to minimise disorientation incidents beats getting called out to retrieve dead bodies.
@@scroopynooperz9051 but that makes them untrained divers😂😂people that don’t dive have a hard time understanding the differences between technical diving and recreational and sadly so do these ignorant people who go under water like this cave diving is it’s own beast and it needs extensive training and a specific certification for it and someone who it trained for it rarely runs into problems like this vuz they follow the rules and ome of the biggest 5 rules is always use a guideline so if someone doesn’t do that they r essentially choosing to die by ignorance and it is truly saddening
@@ballsballsballs3617 the divers that police brought probably a open water expert diver cave diving itself is completely different approach its requires special training and these diver that police send were no cave divers thats why one of them ended up dying
I live in Prague and I still remember the day the geocachers drowned. The reason why they didn't worry about the weather was because it'd been completely cloudless that day. The rain came literally out of nowhere, a lot of people (including my sister) had been caught outside in their summer clothes without umbrellas. At the time I lived near the city centre and I had to loan my sister some clothes because hers were completely soaked as if she just jumped in the water fully clothed.
The one giving loans. The one accepting borrows. Just FYI
@@Adroit1911 thanks!
Prague is a lovely place and I hope I can visit again soon!
It was a sad day in the geocaching community for sure :-/
MamaYayaa: the Muggles will never understand...
It never fails to surprise me how, when a person knows they are most likely going to die in the next few moments, their last words seem to echo the acceptance of their inevitable fate in such a nonchalant way. Here he said," We'll, it can't be helped," and in another story by Mr. Ballen the pilot's last words as the airplane is plummeting to Earth said," This is it Baby." I myself had an experience where I thought I was going to be dead very soon and I remember how calming it was when I just accepted it.
Except those weren't the last words of Tetsu Shiohara. His last words were, "I'm slipping". Mr. Ballen tells his stories for entertainment, not to be factually correct. I regularly come across verifiable errors such as this in his stories. He also uses rumors, theories, myths & his own opinions to tell stories & most viewers take it all as fact.
@@_MjG_he didn’t say those were his last words.
@@_MjG_”and he knows he’s doomed. He says on camera, ‘well, it can’t be helped.’”
@@willfrederickson2131 LOL! I suggest you watch from 5:20 to 5:30 a few times, because you're clearly clueless. It doesn't matter if Mr.Ballen explicitly said those were Tetsu Shiohara's final words, as it's extremely obvious that it's implied.
Regardless, Shiohara never said "Well, it can't be helped" in his final minutes as Mr.Ballen or YOU claim. I watched a video of every second of Shiohara's final 1 minute 40 seconds. Shiohara spoke in Japanese alone, but it was all translated & shown as text on the video. Never was "Well, it can't be helped" spoken, nor anything resembling that. The final words were shown exactly as "Oh! I'm sli- pping!!", before he slid to his death, with no other words being uttered after "slipping".
I read a few articles that all stated the final words were "Wait! I'm slipping". Either way, it wasn't the BS Mr.Ballen made up.
“Welp it can’t be helped” the ultimate peace out omfg.
What would you say
I believe he said, "shikata nai" (仕方ない) which can also mean "it can't be helped" but it can also mean "there's nothing I can do" - such as when you're faced with an insurmountable task or obstacle.
Hella sad. Feeling helpless af
"It can't be helped" is a literal translation of a very common japanese expression.
@@TechniqueSan 仕方ない / しょうがない = it can't be helped, inevitable, there's nothing you can do, unavoidable, pointless, hopeless, useless, hopeless, awful.
While there is a "it can't be helped" feel to it, there is also a slight change in nuance between that and "It's pointless" or "hopeless"...
I'm not sure calling it a literal translation is 100% accurate, since there are multiple nuances (depending on the situation) to 仕方, and since there is no direct translation to 仕方 other than "way to do" something.
In this video I learned
"Do research"
"Use common sense"

I wanna try scuba diving someday, but NOT in caves. Even just photos of deep dark underwater caverns have always terrified me.
These cave diving stories make me feel rough! I can’t imagine deep sea diving, let alone in a cave and squeezing through small holes, I’d be beyond claustrophobic.
“more people die in car accidents” FALSE. FOR EVERY 4000 cave dives, there will be one death. For cars you have to do 3,000,000 trips for each death. Cars are waaaaaaaaay safer

My brother is a great grandfather in geocaching. He was one of the first ones to join this. It upsets him when caches are out where you need special skills to get them. All caches are supposed to be put in place that any one can get to them. No scuba diving, mountain climbing or caving. Too dangerous for that, as your story proves. He has hidden caches in pumpis stone fields in Oregon , in tree roots in the parks. All over oregon, Idaho and Washington. All where the regular person can get to.
I’m someone who enjoys grabbing Geocaches in more absurd places, and I believe the game would be a lot less interesting if caches like these didn’t exist. They’re a real adventure.
However, they still need to be in places that aren’t off limits and super dangerous, unlike the one the second story. There’s such thing as going too far, and that’s an example for sure.
I love it when he gets the giggles! It's contagious!!!

I live in Croatia and we rarely have this kind of accidents so they probably believed that it's not that big of a deal. Boy they were wrong.
Going into a submerged cave without experience and a guideline directly to the exit is like playing russian roulette.
Inexperienced divers or even certified divers not trained for cave diving are asking to die, it's a given.
You mean the one where everyone dies because they get lost in the silty blackness? Ok! Lets not even bring rope!
Dude what does my tattoo say?
I now understand that cave diving is certain death thanks to MrBallen. In fact, just avoid all caves.
And icy mountains. And the woods. And anything with a metal grate over it.
I have never had any desire to cave dive, but I feel justified by Mr Ballen with his stories.
I hear you, but I think it’s important to contrast how many successful cave dives there are too. Almost like car journeys, if there was a channel dedicated to talking about car crashes it would make driving seem very dangerous too 😂
I live in Split - Croatia and have heard stories of people drowning in that cave "Poganica" , which means The pagan one, near the Šolta coast since i was a kid.

The last story has a few discrepancies. There were 7 friends plus the captain on the boat. The friends had dinner & drinks before jumping in the water. At first, 4 men jumped in the water & went into the cave, but didn’t go far cuz it was too complex for their equipment & experience. 15mins later, Miraslov (MK) jumped in & dived outside the cave, while the 2 other friends stayed on the boat with the captain.
When the 4 divers got back to the boat, MK wasn’t there. They realized he had gone into the cave & never came out, so they called for help. 2 police divers with little experience searched for MK in the cave. One barely made it out & the other let go of the safety line in the Shallow Gallery, became disoriented & drowned. Another search group eventually found the police diver & MK with the knife in his chest. They also found blood on the boat & suspected foul play. They gave the group a polygraph & 2 members reacted strongly to the words blood & knife & were held in custody. After a lengthy investigation, learning that the blood wasn’t human, & looking at the timing & data from the dive computer, police ruled out that someone killed MK - he stabbed himself.
A case study on this dive says MK’s increased blood alcohol & nitrogen narcosis most likely caused him to stab himself. This was my initial thought since no one had the proper equipment to dive that deep & MK’s blood alcohol level was 0.114%.
Wouldn't it be awfully hard for a human to stab himself to death, even with nitrogen narcosis?
@@shannonrutledge8872 No. Nitrogen Narcosis can cause confusion & poor judgment. That, on top of his high BAC in an unfamiliar, complex cave, could’ve led to his fatal outcome.

Lol yea
I'm always amazed that people are risking their whole lives to cave dive somewhere that's so dark they can't see anything anyway.
I was thinking the same thing. I could understand if it was some amazing spectacle like a huge colorful cavern where light would penetrate.
For some people it is worth it. No one has the right to say 'I decide what your life is worth." Some have the ability to restrict other peoples freedom & choices, but the right is still not theirs to do so.
I read that there are some places which you reach through submerged caverns that are so amazing you cannot believe it... Well, they might be, but the'll remain unseen by me! I cannot think of a more terrifying sport!
Same. I don't understand it. Especially if you have family and friends that would miss you. On top of that if you get stuck and people come looking for you then you are risking their life as well for a cheap thrill.

Story 2 really got to me. I geocache every so often and it is usually super damn safe but sometimes... sometimes caches can be in strange places. There's one I've been in that's inside of an underground stream. Those four should absolutely have known better than to cache somewhere that floods when the weather calls for a downpour. It's just not wise.
Someone from the area commented, that day the weather was entirely clear and the rain was totally unexpected from the looks of things anyway.

idea on how to somewhat prevent these, a tethered rope system that leads directly to the surface and no where else. Or just using a rope from the surface to you, so it automatically traces your path
My thoughts exactly
@@horridbeast4089 I don't even walk through my house without being tethered to a rope.
I read the article written by one of the diver's that was best friend of the deceased one. They weren't amateurs, but they weren't cave divers. They just wanted to explore the entrance, but one got lost, they tried to find him but spent all the air they had. They contacted police, it took like 5 hours for them to get there (as it was a night dive). Two divers that came were NOT specialists, Czech divers claim they had mediocre equipment, unsuitable for caves, they gave them their flashlights and their cord, as they only had some metal wire. They were told to wait on the spot during the night, so they couldn't replenish their air and help the police divers. The Croatian police (probably angry because their member died, which Czech divers said they were terribly sorry about and they would rather die there themselves) tried to sentence two of the divers for murder (they claimed that they were "homosexual love triangle" and those two killed him on boat and dragged him into the narrow cave dead, which would be immpossible). They were later released, as the claim was ridiculous, also because one of the "homosexual love triangle" had long-term girlfriend and other was happily married. There was a lot of sh*t in tabloids tho.
