As a Native Hawaiian, my best advice to tourist would be just because you see locals doing something, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to do it too. BUT if you don’t see any locals doing something, it’s in your best interest to follow our example. Hālona Blowhole is along the strongest current in all of Hawaii, the Kaʻiwi Channel, and is next to Sandy’s Beach, known for having the most broken neck and back injuries in the nation! You will see many of us locals (born and raised in these waters) surfing/bodysurfing at Sandy’s, but unless you have experience, do NOT go in! However, you will not catch locals near the blowhole period! For what reason anyway? That in itself should say something. But if you decide to break past the barriers of places you shouldn’t be and end up hurt or worse, do NOT come here and try to shutdown these places because YOU fucked up as a VISITOR 💯. Next time come correct with respect for the places you’re visiting or no come at all.

@@the2006mvp Very unlikely. It would be fastened into solid rock & the gushing air/water, would create almost no pressure on a mostly open grate. Also, Tilikum wasn't punished even though that was the second of three people he would kill for the same reason SeaWorld kept him trapped and tortured in the first place - he was worth too much to "punish". He ended up dying in a tiny solitary confinement tank and SeaWorld barely suffered. Garbage human beings own that company.

The first story is interesting when you read up about Tillicum. Killer whales, despite their name, are typically gentle in nature. But being held in captivity warps their minds because of how intelligent they are. Someone had said in response to Tillicum killing, 'imagine a human being locked in a bathtub for years.' They end up self-harming, and hurting each other. The humans that come into the pool are treated like playthings. Tillicum killed three people overall, including two trainers. Experts labeled him as 'psychotic' and said that being held in captivity made that happen.

Daniel's death was, of course, Daniel's fault for going in there, but the larger picture is that it was just the fault of people. The blame for all of the deaths related to Tilikum belongs to human beings. One hundred percent. You do not take a free-ranging apex predator who roams the oceans, rip them away from their tight-knit families as they did to Tilikum when he was just two, make him live in a bathtub, force him to perform tricks only to entertain people, and then wonder what went wrong. The captive horror that they thrust upon Tilikum for 34 years completely devastated his emotional and physical health. Tilikum was a male orca, actually! He already had a history of aggression towards humans; before going to SeaWorld, he had drowned a teenaged trainer at another water wildlife park. After Daniel, he then went on to drown and brutalize the body of his trainer, Dawn Brancheau. I think it was less so that he saw Daniel as a toy. In captivity, Tilikum was in such a confined space, unable to play out his natural hunting instincts, and often kept in isolation because the other orcas would hurt him. There's evidence he cared about Dawn and much as she cared for him, but under those conditions, it's no wonder Tilikum continued to lash out time after time. They are intelligent, social creatures that are apex predators in the wild, and captivity literally rips away their ability to do anything that is in their nature. He should have been released back into the wild after the first trainer he killed, and then Daniel and Dawn's deaths wouldn't have happened.

Brings back memories. I grew up on a dairy farm with a 2000# or so Holstein bull. He was great, always playful, never angry. However, he did playfully knock a pair of 15 ft. solid doors off their hangers, just rubbing his neck to get rid of an itch I suppose. He knocked down wooden posts-big ones-and loved to play with humans by head lifting them up in the air, not viciously, but nevertheless, rather high and far. I think the killer whale dude would have been good friends with our bull. May they both RIP.

Side note to the geographical structures of Hawaii: There are lava tubes that MIGHT run out to the ocean, but that’s not guaranteed! The lava on all the islands (including the ones off shore) are SHARP, and if you’re near the water, staff infections are highly possible. And… there are a lot of caves and tube systems that are connected to the oceans, but that’s where the BODIES are dumped because many are inaccessible - even with diving gear - because the ocean is too strong, the dives are too dangerous, and those bodies will be torn apart between the lava and current. Don’t ask me where those tubes are because I’ll never tell, and no local in good conscience would. It’s because year after year, too many tourists DON’T LISTEN, and get hurt or worse because they don’t think anything bad will happen to THEM. And that’s where all these stories come from…
