Came across your previous Aethos (custom frame) video and have been waiting patiently for the complete build video to drop. WOW! Man, you did not disappoint. This is one of the most beautiful, amazing builds I've ever seen. Love the intricate detail you've taken to SENSIBLY shave weight, yet not make any compromises in form or function. You, my friend, have a new subscriber and (as an Aethos owner), have given me inspiration on what's possible if planned, sourced and executed to perfection, the dream build of a dream bike. Bravo, my friend! Chefs kiss.
That fork design will go down in history as one of the smartest solutions for fully integrated cables ever. Awesome build too, loved every minute of it!
@@TwistedWheels Hi mate, I'm considering a similar gravel build at the moment with the deda fork. I was wondering where the special wedge goes that is supplied with the fork? I've read on some forums that the fork only works with a 1,5'' steerer tube, which I couldn't believe after seeing ur video and the aethos not matching that standard. Also the deda website says that the fork is compatible with tapered 1'' 1/8' - 1,5'' steerer tubes. Thanks in advance!
@@PaceGalore Deda forks are designed for 1 1/8 to 1 1/2 frames. The wedge comes with the fork. I have one new Deda Gera EDG DCR gravel fork for sale - drop me a message.
@@TwistedWheels awesome, thanks! I'm currently negotiating the final details with the frame builder. And I'm undecided between the EDG and the curvy fork. I'd prefer the look of the EDG but 180mm rotors and the mounting points for front bags would be nice too. I'll shoot you a dm regarding the fork as soons as I've figured that out 👍
I’m glad someone noticed that :) I’ve been keeping it for 4 years waiting for the right bike to put it on! Unfortunately, MFS are no longer producing it :(
That's what I call a Dream Built !! 🤩 Not to mention your great taste for components and custom paint and so on ... Its always a great pleasure to watch your work/videos. I have to say Im almost mouth watering 😉 Cheers from Fance
Outstanding build. Impressed that you sort out internal routing mod. Been an Aethos owner since release and while I didn't focus on weight, I also have the 2-wheel set up, LB AR55 and LB WR 35 for the lighter set up. I had it running as 1x, but it was too limited on rides. Safe riding,
Thanks for mentioning the manufacturers and versions of the items you selected, great go weight weenie googlers such as I :) that fork and bar combo is very nice!!
The second pair of wheels give the bike some extra 'visual' power, although I'm not fond of ears wheels it looks great! Also because of your excellent choice of colour scheme. I've been only recently following your channel and I'm not a less-weight-nerd but I love what you're doing to the bikes. Keep going!
So cool to see you thinking outside of the box and building it up just how you dreamt it, instead of the usual "just buy the lightest components and maybe a respray"
As a fresh Aethos owner I must say that this the best build I have seen and suites that bike so well. I wish I had seen this video before mine was built. But, hey, even with a standard build, Aethos is awesome.
Love the job you did. I definitely love the look with the deeper wheels-I'd ride them. But, what I like most about your build is hiding the cables. I really love the look of a clean bike, and I had no idea it could be pulled off on the aethos. You now are making me want to do the same thing! Well done! Oh, and cute kid! That was neat to see!
Love this build. Custom paint and IMHO the internal cable routing is what makes the build so special (super clean, less is more!). I recently bought an S-WORKS SL6 rim brake off FB marketplace and have managed to get it down from 7.4kgs to 5.4kgs with pedals. Would be insane to see what you could do with a rim brake bike (I'm sure you could get it to the mid 4kg's with ease, maybe even sub 4kgs?!).
Thanks mate. Making this build below 5 kg is not a problem. This was my plan for this year, but I decided to go with a different option and will be building a superlight aero SL8 instead. So stay tuned! 👊🏻
Awesome build! i am looking at building a set of wheels using he light bicycle AR 25 rims for mostly climbing my local mountian which tops out at 9,000 feet Are they stable descending? Thanks
how is the ZTTO Cassette? Does ist work quietly and in ll of the gears? How is the wear so far? Thankful for any reviews/experiences with the cassette!!
Nice bike! - I appreciate the discussion about why you chose the various parts. Keep the bike you love riding the most! (more research necessary..on the road!)
All that's now needed is this EXACT build with an S-Works Crux frameset and wider tires for THE lightest conceivable gravel bike imaginable... even with 40+ mm tires!
I like the look of your build well done. My Ridley helium SLX uses the same D shaped fork design and has a similar cable routing setup as what you created on the Aethos now. Its a pain to route and to insert that extra supportive blok, but once its all set it works just fine... Your bike is using consiberably nicer and lighter parts.
I'll go for the Colnago due to its classic built. And the frame with its stunning lugs are timeless quality. As for the Aethos, I prefer the shallow rims.
Yes, ditto to what Rides of Japan said. Brilliant! I don't normal like Specialized but, gotta say that with the deeper section wheels on, I like this Aethos better than your Colnago C64. Also, can you please tell me where to buy a ZTTO 10-36 cassette (and what you paid) cause from here in the USA they seem hard to find. And thanks for introducing Bjorn their stuff looks rad!
Gorgeous! I only took 3 screen grabs. You are a good RUclipsr and great at building/specing bikes! This video is probably going to be very expensive for me because you very thoughtfully gave me a shopping list. 👌👍

Hi, wish to ask, do you mind sharing where to get the Titanium Shifters Clamping Bolts (TimeStamp = 3:58)? I tried sourcing them before watching this video, thought that this stuff doesn't exist in the market. Greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
@Twisted Wheels. Truly awesome video. I also have an aethos and I've been waiting for someone to do internal cabling. Thanks for doing this. I recently visited the deda website and got a little confused with all the headset options. Which one did you use for this build? ( You mentioned dcr, but there's a lot of them) did you also have to change the top steerer tube bearing or is the stock bearing compatible with the deda headset? Lastly, I couldn't find the conical spacer that you used (@10:46 mark) is that also deda or a different brand? Thanks in advance for your help!
Have you had any issues running carbon spokes and Extralite hubs yet? I’ve been running that combo for a year now on two wheel sets and have had numerous broken spokes. I reached out to LightBicycle about it, and they said that it’s due to the design of the hub requiring a specially built wheel to work well with carbon spokes.
Favorite custom build with the aftermarket internal cable routing solution! However I've looked and it's as if the D shaped steerer DCR forks have been scrubbed off the internet. I can't find much info on it anywhere.
If I had that Colnagah I wouldn't have built the Aethos. The weight matters most at the tires, rims, and spokes, and you have those super SUPER light. 700 grams elsewhere doesn't matter much. Keep whichever bike feels better while riding. I guess I'd keep the Colnagga

I believe that this is something that people like me who desire to build the bike by themselves will appreciate a lot. Kudos, nice work and great channel!
Just like you I have 2 wheelsets for my road bikes. You shouldn't have to ask to pick one or the other. They serve different purposes. One is a climbers wheelset and the other is for speed. In my case for my disc brake road bike wheelsets I have 50mm and 20mm, and for my rim brake road bike I have 45mm and 20mm. BTW, your bike looks AWESOME! Great job! Congrats!
Thanks Dennis, I’ll keep two wheelsets - the question was which one you like more from the looks perspective. However, I can only keep one road bike, so either Colnago or Aethos will have to go :(
Bruhhh that's freaking amazing. With some lighter tires and tpu inner tube it would go even lower in weight (I don't like corsa next personally). Anyway that's one amazing bike. Congrats. Waiting for a ride video
