Gojira has a song called “The Heaviest Matter of the Universe,” and it was at the front of their set list when they played Rock On The Range in May. The French death metal band, featuring Mario and Joe Duplantier, has been cranking for more than two decades (they changed their name from the original Godzilla in 2001), and last year’s ‘Magma’ is as explosive and intimidating as their previous work. We connected with the brothers at Rock on the Range for a chat about how their music has shifted towards prog metal of late, how rockers are sometimes trying to keep their childhoods alive, and their early passion for Metallica and loud bands.

Actually I thought she's a very good and really natural interviewer, and she just said the brother thing because she wanted to ask who is older. Also she is attractive.

Mike Sullivan they do sound like Pantera. There's a couple of songs where the lead singers sounds like Phil Anselmo.
They have a fair following...
1. They are quite big now, opening for freaking iron maiden
2. They don't sound like panterra, they don't act like panterra and they are not hillibilly music, which panterra is.

When Joe said they've been playing Death Metal for all these years Mario didn't react. When Joe said they started to play this "progressive" Death Metal Mario's face was like "Really? Is that what we play?" Priceless!!! XD
I didn't look for that but I had a similar reaction to what you describe. Death-metal is a stretch... progressive? Not at all... I like them, but honestly their compositions are reeeeeeally really straightforward.
Eske Knas From what I've seen people say, the comps are fairly new. I don't listen to that much metal, but their slides and drums and such I haven't heard anywhere. The Art of Dying is a really different piece from what I've heard in the metal community, the off beat strikes of the drums are something really interesting to me.
Granted, the only two/three Hard rock/Metal bands I listen too on a regular basis are SOAD, Soundgarden (Anything of Chris Cornell's) and Gojira, so I can't say what is new.

Yeah, Joe's accent is more like combination of United States-French accent, because he also spent for longer time in United States than Mario, and the fact that Joe's family now resides in Brooklyn
