Mario Duplantier - GOJIRA drummer details the bands visual art process!

- Gojira need no introduction. The Grammy winning band are the real deal, and the visual art they themselves create is unique and personal. Mario Duplantier, the godly drummer for the band, spoke with us at Bloodstock Open Air in 2014 to talk about his own drawing and painting, and how Gojira is a real family outfit when it comes to their album art, music videos and photography.

Wow, Mario your English has come a long way! When I met him a few years ago, he could barely speak English, and his native language is French. He told me he was teaching himself how to speak English. Good for you. One of my favorite drummers! As a drummer myself, he is such an inspiration to me.
Truly, one of the best metal drummers around today. I havent seen someone with as much discipline and solidness as this guy in a while!
A few years ago I had asked if he had a certain drum head he had done of an owl, unfortunately it wasn't available anymore but to my surprise he offered and took the time to paint me one similar to it, I'll forever treasure it

Creativity and Talent
Saw Gojira for the first time recently. The power and precision Mario and the band plays with is freaking jaw dropping. Counting down the seconds until I am honoured by their presence once more 🤘
Awesome mate! I'm so lucky to have seen Gojira many times over the years, from small clubs to headlining festivals in Europe, and they remain my favorite metal band. The entire Gojira organization, from the band members, to their managers and techs are some of the friendliest, most down to earth people you'll ever meet in the music industry. He's one of the best drummers in the last fifty years, and is a really talented visual artist. Anne, Gabrielle, and Joe are all wonderful visual artists, and their work complements the music of Gojira so perfectly. And Jean-Michel and Christian complete this wonderful salon of creative people and family.
Not only does Mario have Mind-blowing and Top Tier drumming abilities... But i find his art being sort of opposite as like a child like quality of experimentation..💀🤘
THe best way ti recycle drumheads and save the enviroment. Mario, what an artist he is. He can play music, he can paint, he can express all his emotions in so many different ways it almost becomes extreme, but it's kinda not in the same time. Total respect for artists who dare to challenge themselves and express their deepest minds.
..."save the enviroment.". oh the magical reason that allows more crimes against humanity than ever before. kill humanity to save humanity. dogs are more important than humans. we are destroyng nature. NO WE ARE NOT, we are a miniscule part of the system and we will eventually be crushed by it, not the opposite.
Your band does strike me as a very sincere passionate band that has a lot to offer the world

I saw Gojira this past summer opening for Deftones. This man is one hell of a drummer. Wow. He’s right up there with my other faves Danny Carey, Brann Dailor and the mighty Tomas Haake 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I saw them open for Deftones. The first act didnt show up so we got an extended Gojira set into Deftones. It was amazing!

Now his wife I believe! This was filmed 10 years ago in 2013, I don’t know when they began dating, but just some context. He also told us he has a hard time expressing himself in English so 'woman' might have been the only English word he had to make that sentence work at the time!

I thought this is recent as it had visuals from Amazonia.
He has never referred to Anne as his wife, as he wants her art to stand on its own. Her skills in visual art are fantastic and if you're a Gojira fan you've seen her work. Mario is a spouse who respects his wife and her art. And I would imagine it would be annoying to have an exhibition and it's all your spouse's fans. Also, if you own L' Enfant Savauge that's Anne's profile. Kinda ridiculous to be a groupie and hit on a guy whose wife is part of the stage design.
@@theartofheavymetal They are married and have two children ... at PA Knotfest he was kicking a soccer ball around with the kids in the bus area. Nobody hassled them. It was nice to see a normal interaction, and that Knotfest was in a rural area where there is still forest.
@@theartofheavymetal Dude ? Fortitude is not ten years ago, and in 2014 Mario did NOT speak English, really fer sher, he let Joe talk. Anne is French and from the same area the guys in the band grew up.
