- Rich character development! Likeable protagonist! Shocking plot twists! You'll find none of that here!

RUMINATIONS: I cannot begin to tell you how much of a relief it was at the time to not be talking about Countdown anymore.
As I said in a previous rumination, it was difficult to make those episodes FUNNY because it didn't follow the method by which I usually did review - go page by page, panel by panel, breaking down what happened in the comic and what was so bad about it or worthy of riffs and ridicule. Countdown relied on lots of summarizing and less outright jokes about specific dialogue (unless it was truly atrocious). As such, it just felt good at the time to get back to my element - riffing on a bad comic.
For me, the decision to review Xena just came down to the name. So much baggage with the name was associated with the Lucy Lawless TV series, so I didn't know if they'd reference it (assuming the comic came out at the same time as the show... I honestly can't remember and the comic is so bland and lame that I feel no need to go back to check). In the end, it may have just been a lame black and white superhero comic featuring lots of violence, but at least it wasn't Countdown.
The shame about this one is that the setting actually could've had some potential. What with a whole subculture of superpowered beings that seem to have different rights and privileges than the Muggles and a lead character that is basically not only a one-woman superhero internal affairs but not corrupted by having absolute power.
I'm just gonna say the CONCEPT of this comic is actually intriguing. A super hero so powerful, they're used by the government to police the other super heroes...I'd probably read an actually good comic about something like that,
+RT Minus the superpowers, isn't that the plot to Judge Dredd?
+Avi Dennis eh, slightly. Dredd was more about a world of extreme law and order. This would be about supers becoming a separate legal class.
Or better yet, write this down, make a comic about, or hire someone to make the comic with you as the writer, and try and show it as a masterpiece to be published.
scifiguy9000 I am trying to make a webseries. I've found an artist, but I'm not sure how he is with humans. We'll see.
David Spring Do you mean you are trying to a make a web series based on the concept of the comic? If that is the case, it sounds interesting. Best of luck to you.
Worth it to watch Linkara sing Gilbert and Sullivan
To be honest, a "dating service for superheroes" ("E-Harmony for Capes") isn't a bad concept to explore in a more wackier subplot to a comic arc. With the way superheroes in DC and Marvel network, in real life, there probably WOULD be something like that- at least something to vet people, to see if they're trying to do something EVIIIL!
Wait a minute. Super-powered enforcer who kills similar beings who go out of line? Oh God, IT"S "THE BOYS"! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!
Although, Linkara is right, Hammer Girl sounds kind of cool. Defiantly better then Hammer Man (100 points to whoever gets that reference).
Matt Lipton If you are talking about the MC Hammer cartoon where he plays a superhero, it is spelt "Hammerman" not "Hammer Man".
Oh, that's my bad.
Linkara should review The Boys or The Pro and rip Garth Ennis a new one.
Linkara has sated that he refuses to review stuff by Garth Ennis because he knows that most of his reviews would be swapped from hate comments from Garth Ennis fans. Although he used to say that about Mark Millar, and he's already reviewed three comics written by Millar. Technically two if you consider that two of them where from the same series.
Did you see the Nostalgia Critic's "Was that Real" episode on Hammer Man?
My god that end credit music is awesome why didnt we keep that
I looked it up and was shocked to see this came out in 1995. This reminds me a lot of many of the books that came out in the b&W explosion of the 80s - people putting out badly written, poorly drawn comics of mediocre printing quality, hoping to be the next TMNT.
The whole 'sixteen hours old/endowments' thing may not be as bad as Linkara makes it out to be. It could be that you can test someone's DNA and find out which endowments they will have, like you can do for other diseases or genetic traits
I wish this comic WAS about Lucy Lawless kicking ass in the future.
5:05- Well, I'll give the comic this: it has no mentioning of the word "destrucity."
Jack Justice sounds like the name of a superhero parody character.
9:52- At least 3 years after this review was released, we got the more serious "Dredd." Sure, it bombed at the box office, but it still got a fan base (and I saw it in theaters TWICE).
"Never before will you learn so little about a character!" That's a majority of Rob Liefeld characters in a nutshell (except Deadpool and Cable).
I think Xena is a tough sounding name that's why they used it, like Shanna the she devil.
I have a hard time thinking of someone called "Shanna" as tough after reading the Tandy Computer Whiz Kids comics
Linkara: Let's talk about Xena.
*plays Xena theme song
Me: Oh, so THAT'S where that music came from. I have had that theme song in the back of my head on and off for years and could not remember where I heard it.
Im the greatest superhero of all time ~poses~ Oreoman.
And yet you have fallen into my glass of milk trap! Hahahahahahah!!!!
"Is it an oreo cookie? A yo-yo?"
Me: It's a teacup.
2025? S.P.D. Emergency! 😁 haha
[looks around] I don't see any flying cars, and we've only got a year left to go. Better get on that.
Too many irresponsible idiots. Gods I hope not.
Xena. She-hulk and green lantern's forbiden love child.
Saint paddys day, drunk, and ready for some Linkara, before I pass the fuck out :D
5:05 - "Had a bad dream... Guess I better microwave the baby"
When I saw "National Endowment Bureau" I thought the government was now regulating genitals.
The theme songs in the credits of early episodes are kick-ass!
10 years of xena! This book could’ve actually been a decent book if polished better and written better
Gotta say Lewis, these alternate theme songs kick ass.
Wait 2025! We got 1 more year! Hey Linkara, why not review issue 2 of this next year? It'd be like an anniversary, lol
A more humane Mikado never did in Japan exist,
To nobody second, I'm certainly reckoned
A true philanthropist!
It is my very humane endeavour to make, to some extent,
Each evil liver, a running river of harmless merriment!
Yeah, singing Gilbert and Sullivan is more fun than reading this comic
Anyone know the song during the ending credits? I like it.
As always good review.
Okay, now i want to listen to that song at 3:45
What is the name of it?
Vilmundur Gunnarsson It's called "When You Had Left Our Pirate Fold" from "The Pirates of Penzance" (an operetta by Gilbert & Sullivan) :)
can’t wait for flying cars and super powers
Considering now it's 2024 seems it was wrong
Man that Mr.R is so freaking awesome. Why couldn't they make an action packed comic about him.
I know, from pausing and reading the speech bubbles that his name is Rambus, but Mr.R is kinda a cool name. Like the R might mean, Mr.Red or Mr.Radical or even Mr.Rage.
Well, there's something to be said about this publisher being strait forward with what they are and their target audience.
wow the opening was so weird back in the day (only ever saw the current one)
Definitely a premise with potential... but yikes, the execution!
The reason for the name. Turn the x 90° t en a. Lol
omg mr.R is the new robin
omg linkara you lie you bernt one comic in the intro it says were bad comics bern
This is so old
Linkara, did you hear of JewWario's death?
In case you don't keep up with his reviews.... Linkara actually admitted it for being the reason he did his new Mario Comic review when he did, since JewWario was a huge fan of the series. He also gave a really touching speech about how much JewWario will be missed in the end of the review, breaking character and going off-script.
dracocrusher Blip still doesn't work for me. Too bad I can't watch the review.
+vcom741 They're both on TGwtG, so I'm sure Linkara heard about it before the internet it.
+Kimi FW did* RUclips's not letting me edit my comment.
Yeah, it's a generic comic, but I can see a world where it could be a decent social satire, but something tells me it stays bland, lol.
