"Meditating in the peace and tranquility of a room where two other people are watching tv." I grew up in a house with four siblings an a mother who like to yell at everyone all the time. I learned that peace an tranquility is found by tuning out the world around. And then I moved out and discovered that silence really is golden.
@8:07-8:12 Continuity Alarm: Ding Dong Ding Dong Ding Dong[Sounding like the Mr. T Superpower Count for some reason] Linkara: Yeah, I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.
"...Granny used to say super heroes are "part actor, part '_boxer_.'"!? Doesn't that *actually* sound more like a pro wrestler? There are quite a lot of similarities between pro wrestlers and super heroes though.
I'd have to say bloodpack has a decent premise & sounds more interesting than other 90s superhero teams like Youngblood! Also, the book isn't just a bunch of action scenes that are focused on multiple different teams rather than the one its supposed to be about! Still its another example of the 90s wasting potentially interesting ideas into something generic 90s fair!
14:06 How many people have made jabs of Teen Titans Go with this book, especially at that part? Outside of the art differences, they seem pretty much the same
If the comic was smart, the explanation could be that the combinations of 1s and 0s we use to represent letters would instead translate to the aliens' alphabet (01000001 = "Aurek" instead of upper case "A") and they might have assigned a different letter to each combination of 1s and 0s (01000001 = "Osk") so it's not guaranteed that the Blood Pack could use the binary as a common reference point to translate their alphabet into ours. Or something to that effect. Given the actual quality of the comic, it's more likely that the writer didn't know what binary code is and couldn't be bothered to find out.
Seeing as she was able to become a successful super model in Green Isn't Your Color, I'm guessing she has the pony equivalent of the ideal super model appearance, so why wouldn't the Human version of her look like a super model too?
14:08-14:22 Holy shit! Blood Pack is Teen Titans Go!!!!!!! Now all they need to do is rant about the Justice League, say that comics suck, and and act like gigantic assholes for absolutely no reason...
I think it's okay to use superpowers for personal gain. They are like any talents. If you're a good dancer, you should totally make a career out of it. Bad dancers shouldn't think it's unfair that you're great at it.
+Channel Ninbikun The main argument with using your powers for personal gain is that it's almost like cheating. Even the most gifted dancers in the world spend their entire life training to become as good as they are. For someone to come in and be the best dancer without having to put forth any effort feels like cheating. The reason we give people awards and honors is to recognize all the hard work they put into gaining those awards. A better example would be sports. When The Flash first got his speed he briefly considered using it to become a pro football player. But the problem is he'd do so by having an unnatural advantage over every other player. Aka: cheating.
Sheepy007 True. But it would generally be frowned upon by society, and wouldn't be considered very heroic. It wouldn't be evil. But it would generally come off as a selfish move unless you were using most of the cash to help people.
+shadowspider9 Batman has to train his entire life to be a superhero, does this mean guys like Superman are cheating? If you are good at something, do it.
Thinh Nguyen It's only a problem when it comes to contests. The idea behind contests is we award the person because they put in a lot of hard work to become better at it then anyone else. It would be like entering a foot race while ridding a motorcycle. It defeats the purpose of the contest. That said there is nothing wrong with using powers in a work environment to maximize efficiency.
9:50 I'd like to point out that Sparx is like, 13. She's got sort of a Mary Marvel thing going on where she looks more adult when her powers are active.
Hitman might have been the longest lasting... and is overall a great series. But as a post speculator boom time title... Superboy and the Ravers running 19 issues is pretty strong run. And Anima lasted about 18 issues.
I had this idea for a character named Gunman who is a satire of gun wielding 90s superheroes & whenever he is asked about his superpowers, he responds by saying "I HAVE GUN!" which is sort of his catchphrase! Mind you he exists in a universe where 90s style superheroes were just a fad & superheroes that cling to the gun-totting grim & gritty atheistic are seen as either behind the times, nutjobs (when they go to far), or wannabe superheroes looking for attention among the superhero population by using an outdated gimmick! As a result, very few take Gunman seriously & he's not well known among the general public hence why I HAVE GUN! responds is his catchphrase! Mind you, no one knows if he has gun based superpowers (which do exist and their is pistol wielding superheroine who wields pistols in conjunction with her superpowers which allows her to alter the impact of projectiles such as bullets so the impact is more akin to blunt force like a punch, thus allowing her to render even normal bullets non-lethal projectiles, though her powers effect does have its limits as she can't render projectiles such as arrows with pointed arrow heads safe) or is just some costumed old school vigilantes whose choice of weapon is a firearm!
Buzzing Sign Diner His powers are that any object he holds can produce projectiles. EDIT: Seems they altered his powers after his intro issue I've got.
You can't deny the creativity of DC to breakout a new character franchise after its tepid years in the 1980s and 1970s. Heavy Metal music was popular for the early 1990s and Blood Pack set to capture the popularity... even if video games were the hype.
3:32- I wish this whole comic was Beast Wars, or anything Transformers related, even the movies, which I personally enjoy watching. As Linkara already properly explained later in his Top 15 Screw Ups list, singular shoulder pads are used to protect archers and fencers. For a recent example, Kanan Jarrus from Star Wars: Rebels wears a singular shoulder pad with the Rebel symbol on it. 8:41- And to put in 2090s terms, "rot" is so not sewing machine. Does Sparx remind anyone else of Livewire from Superman: The Animated Series? I am so happy I'm not a fan of reality shows.
I think your science is off there about breeder reactors. The radioactive material is still an issue. And then there's companies' love of cutting corners when it comes to safety - even with nuclear power plants.
Wait... Ballistic is Korean-American?? He looks more Korriban-American to me XP.... no seriously, Linkara. Review Tales of the Jedi sometime; this dude totally looks like a Sith Pureblood (Oh hey, look at that! A Pureblood in Blood Pack XD), who I might add, have a culture that's awfully similar to that of ANCIENT EGYPT!! *cue Imperial March*
What year was Bloodpack released? It's defiantly a bad comic, but if this was during the rise of reality tv, like Big Brother, I can take it like a satire.
I had to look up what a nuclear "breeder" reactor was, and in Wikipedia's page about the technology, nowhere is former President Jimmy Carter's name even mentioned. What the hell, Linkara?
Okay, this episode's like a decade old and my political alignment has shifted and my interest in a lot of stuff has changed so long story short: a lot of what I said earlier on on political matters were influenced by stuff I half-remembered in college and me being a conservative at the time. I laid blame on Carter for it because it's technically accurate - in 1977, Carter put a ban on reprocessing, a part of fast neutron reactors (or fast breeders). The wikipedia page you looked up didn't mention Carter specifically, but it does mention the discussion around it and why there was development of it around the time and why it was cancelled, primarily for fear of not having enough high-grade uranium if the technology was to be deployed on a large enough scale, thus the process was hoped to utilize more of the little they had. This turned out to not be the case along with a number of other reasons why it was cancelled. I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing at this point, but it's where Carter was involved in the decision of this and they just don't mention him specifically because the Wiki page is more about the general concept and description of it along with more widespread issues around it rather than blaming specific political figures with the parts they played in development or cancellation of projects around it.

13:00 I love how he tries to sound badass while fully admitting his weapon is non-lethal, which by 90's standards means he's completely useless
"Blood Pack" another name better than "Ravagers".
'Blood Pack' is like 'The Boys' but incredibly half-assed.
@8:07-8:12
Continuity Alarm: Ding Dong Ding Dong Ding Dong[Sounding like the Mr. T Superpower Count for some reason]

If I wanted to watch a story about superheros in a TV show, I'd watch Tiger and Bunny.
Faux Fox Samurai I see you have good taste
"...Granny used to say super heroes are "part actor, part '_boxer_.'"!?
Doesn't that *actually* sound more like a pro wrestler? There are quite a lot of similarities between pro wrestlers and super heroes though.
DC really missed a golden opportunity by no naming the team Spinal Tap
“This comic goes up to 11.”
The Teen Titans Go before Teen Titans Go.
"They should do something!"
"... should they do something?"

20:35 "Like no binary code I've ever seen -- almost alien." Do aliens have a different way of expressing 1's and 0's then we do?

@@florenceb1031 Yeah I get the feeling the writer didn't actually know what a "binary code" is and just threw it in because it sounded technical.
Nightblade or... Nyteblade?
I play too much Saints Row.
Because poor literacy is... for crazy fun video game characters.
Nyteblade? Oh god..how I do love the hamminess of that radio ad. MR. X!
*points at you in a Captain America suit* I understood that reference
KairiHawk you can never play too much saints row
14:01 Christ almighty, it's Teen Titans Go!
SudsyMedusa53 holy shit, you're completely right.🙀
Blood Pack makes me think of the mercenary group from Mass Effect.
O.K, why does Fluttershy have such a amazing rack?
Seeing as she was able to become a successful super model in Green Isn't Your Color, I'm guessing she has the pony equivalent of the ideal super model appearance, so why wouldn't the Human version of her look like a super model too?
So was blood gun an actual comic, or something that 90s kid made up. There are so many bad comics that it's hard to remember which are... Real!
I’m pretty sure it was made up
A super hero reality show is a pretty cool sounding concept.
14:08-14:22
Holy shit! Blood Pack is Teen Titans Go!!!!!!!

I love seeing this guy rip apart shitty comics from the 90s.
This feels like the comic that Kingdom Come was made for.
its coooollllld outsiiiideeeee, nokinda atmosphere!

Hitman was awesome for a full decade into 1999.
@@eyeseer1 But like SB&R, it didn't spin directly out of Bloodlines.
I actually really enjoy watching these older episodes but man, that intro...

what is it with super hero reality shows? why would anybody think a superhero "big brother" would be any better than the regular version?
big brother with so called super heroes.
To be fair, I'm pretty sure you can't easily get guns in Korea, so maybe Ballistic's superpower helps him _grow_ guns.
I prefer organic guns. Genetic modification guns always seemed dangerous to me....

Give the series a proper author with Justice League and the characters retcons would be surreal or new.
Should have said "Rot Off" if they had to make up lingo and keep that one in.
I would also accept "Go rot" as a reasonable substitute
Blood Pack? I don't see a Krogan or a Vorcha in the team.
Darn, someone beat me to the Blood Pack joke.
I'd read that.
Well, one of them had regeneration ability with his hand. So he sort of counts.
+Brandon Roberts who's Krogan?

So this was basically the Real World or Big Brother with low-rent superheroes 😄

Michael Prymula Makes sense.
it's not a costume, ballistic has armored skin.
Marlon Brando wasn't in Easy Rider. Perhaps you're thinking of The Wild One?
The alien baddies look great.
7:54 I gotta say, Youngblood wouldn’t bother pausing for a second to do something like this
Obviously if it's quicksilver then that's professor X
Jade was one of Kyle Rayner's girlfriends.
Or letting Homer work in them, seriously, he's a walking disaster just waiting to happen.
I had one of the Bloodlines comics, it's the one with Robin and the woman with the T-1000 arms on it.
it was recently re released in a trade paperback
Ballistic's origin is the only bloodlines comic I got. He's not wearing red armor, that's a shell.
Wait if they're drinking their "blood" and they get super powers from it, does that make them alien vampires?
I need scissors. 61!
Would not be surprised if this was inspired by Big Brother
Linkara ? Why didn't you comment on why ( for some reason ) jade's earrings are a Pearl necklace on one ear
Sparx was actually a recurring hero in the series "Superboy and the Ravers," and she wasn't this bad in that series.
Sparx fighting Live Wire would rock.
EXTREEEEME!
You may have looked up the wrong Ballistic. There's a way cool one put out by Top Cow. If you can find it, check out the Ballistic/Wolverine crossover
Hey, Sparx is an AWESOME name...as long as it's derived from your robot serial number, SPRX-77.
I got it! ... I understood that reference.
Sparx fighting Live Wire would work.
DC should bring back Blood Pack
DC should bring back Blood Pack into Suicide Squad.
Never heard of that crossover
Linkara, as much as you bully Younglood, they did this concept much better
Unless if you're Livewire' s daughter
Maybe Spider-Man or Luke Cage, probably Ghost rider are super heroes that are actors ish.
