I watched several video where they just kept saying it was easy, but I left the video more confused than when I started. This was by FAR the most informative
I don’t know whether it’s because I’ve already watched a few dozen videos on this or whether it’s just that this guy finally made it make sense but now I GET IT. I now understand the inversion principle PLUS I now understand which side needs to be longest given an inside or outside corner. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! 🙏🏽
YOU, Sir are a genius and teaching guru. I watched other videos and was still lost. 5 minutes after watching your superb video I was installing crown molding like a pro! Can't thank you enough. Subscribed !
When I was in high school, I took both a construction class and a woodworking class and man was it a lot of fun for sure!! We didn't make crown molding cuts but we did make miter cuts, rip cuts, cross cuts, etc. In construction we also learned about how to make a bird's mouth cut where I think it's cut at a 45° angle or something and we also learned how to build a shed as well. In woodworking we also learned not only just how to make accurate measurements and glue them up, but we also learned how to make fun projects like I made a coffee table, flag, Chinese Checkerboard, and a big clip as well! Man was it such a huge blast and I really hope to do more of that stuff in the future now that you showed us this video man thanks so so much for this!
I just wanted to thank you for the great tutorial video! It’s excellent the way you explain it is easy to understand. I completed my project…God blessed you and plz keep posting more⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Thank you, just finished my room and it cane out perfect, couldnt figure out how to cut 90, but after i put the top of the crown molding at the bottom(table) of the miter cuts went perfect!
I am installing crown moulding right now and got so confused. Looked on You Tube and immediately found you channel. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You just got a new subscriber. 👍👍👍
Turn the crown upside down is golden advice! Sets the pitch automatically when sitting on the top base of crown. Thanks for the accurate measurement tip too.
Watched a few videos of others and gotta say I couldn’t figure which way on the longer point and you was the only one I saw that actually said the part of how to know which is inside and outside.Longer point to bottom of crown when going inside corners then longer on to of crown for outside.I now know when going to cut without holding board up as how it will be now I have that reference made my day go from long to accomplishment thank you
Thank you for this! I’ve had a hard time visualizing how the inside corners of the crown molding would go together. You’ve made this process 100% easier!
Dude you are the MAN!!! That is a fantastic video brother 👏 👍 BRAVO!! We had never done crown molding, watched a bunch a vids and they were like WTF???! You are number one my friend!
Seeing how easily your blade went through that molding made me to realize that it’s definitely time for me to get a new blade. 🤦🏽♀️ Thanks for the video!
I could tell you was a quality trim Carpenter when you mentioned how wide of a mark The Carpenter's pencil makes that's good work buddy keep it up and I like your work
Excellent video and instructions. You solved my problem of how to cut a corner for crown molding. Memory had failed me and I needed a reminder. Thank you so much for simple instructions.
Also remember!!! Never cut directly on the line! The saw blade is 1/8 thick, and if you cut directly on the line then it will shorten your piece by 1/16 if not the 1/8... blade needs to be on the outside of your line if that makes sense! See and have made tons of errors shorting pieces that way and it’s extremely frustrating
Putty/ caulking is for holes only. Always fresh blade, and its like shooting a gun, line up 3 points. I sight both front and back egde of the teeth on blade with proper side of mark. Line up 3 points and cut away!
Quick and simple video for cutting crown molding. I installed 400 feet of CM in our house about 15 years ago but today, I installing four pieces in our toilet room so your video was helpful. My only negative was your comment at the 4:00 mark when you were getting ready to cut a small piece of CM, really too small to safely cut and your comment was it "a little too little for....a little to small but WE WILL MAKE IT WORK". Also, I didn't see any safety google being used when using the miter saw. One should NEVER has such a casual attitude around power tools and speaking from personal experience, one should ALWAYS wear safety googles. About 45 years ago, while sanding a transom on the back of a 48" wood power boat and NOT wearing safety googles, a little piece of old chipped paint fell off and landed on my eye surface. We tried to wash it out on the job site.....no success.. The surface tension had it firmly in place....I had to go to an ophthalmologist and even he spent several minutes before he was able to remove it. SAFETY FIRST.....for your EYES and your digits !
Thank you for this video! After having tried for a couple of hours turning the pieces around I found your video and then it was astonishingly easy to make an internal corner!
this video was good but would've been better if you emphasized the angle of the sawcut and where to put the mark on the crown to get the right measurement for the wall insode corner to inside corner. I'm confused about that. Since it's not a straight cut like when you do baseboard because a baseboard sits right in the inside corner and crown does not, i'm unsure where to measure on the crown to get the right final distance. good tip on not bending your tape into a corner.
Straight forward and to the point. Only thing I could build on it application use...take a measurement with a digital angle finger and apply it to not perfect mitre cuts!
Thanks for the video. I figured out how to make crown cuts by watching sitting in the passenger seat on the way to the job, got there and ran 80 lineal feet.
Semper Fi. Good instructions for the inside mitre cut, I wish you would have cut outside corners. Only because a lot of us are visual, and learn better by seeing rather than by being told how to do something. Thanks for sharing.
Hello, thank you for your video. Do you have one showing us how to cut for lighted crown molding. I know the top is off the wall, but how far and what outside angle do I use?
It’s helpful to glue down two pieces of wood with double tape as support on the line you made on the saw. Very helpful and makes everything stable while sawing specially when cutting short pieces.
I figured out this crown cutting method myself, but had trouble to measure the exact length !!! This video teaches me the trick, so simple that I never thought about it, I am only good at figuring out complicate stuff, pretty weird me. I just finished 3 crown molding in my home (8 ft x 8 ft, two of them at 4 x 4), still have one more to go 10 ft x 4 ft. It's real fun to do this. To be honest, I did one wrong cut per room, my mind was else where when I made this cut and all I can say was Oh. Sh.sh sh sh.. Forgot to mention, the recessed areas (light fixture boxes on the ceiling) are 6" deep !!! I had to install flat molding at the edge, then above it the crown molding. The crown molding overlaps the flat one by nearly an inch.
Thanks for the video! I have never cut crown before. We are redoing a bonus room that was added to the house prior to us. It is basically a walled all porch. My only question is. The ceiling has a slight downward pitch to allow rain run off. How if any does this affect the process of connecting the pieces to the straight wall
If you can go 45 degrees either way with you saw then why do you have to put the molding upside down? I'm so confused trying to cut this molding and it's expensive I keep messing up
I know I'm a year late, but thank you for explaining it so well. Turn that crown upside down. I'll never forget it just like Lefty loosey righty tighty...lol. Thanks again.
Man you was doing so good.. I wish you would have just cut the 71 5/8 then apply.. that would have been much clearer to the inside/ outside corner narritive
I have an older guy willing to bring me along on a molding job and it will be my first time being immersed with something like that. Thanks for those tips!
Pretty clear but I'm not sure how to do an outer corner? I have a range hood I'm trying to put molding around, how much further than the 7.5" corner do I need to cut?
I watched several video where they just kept saying it was easy, but I left the video more confused than when I started. This was by FAR the most informative
Of all the videos on youtube, yours is the only one that truly described and showed in detail how inside cuts were done. Thank you, Thank you!
The idea to mark the tape on the saw is terrific. Thank you for sharing.
I don’t know whether it’s because I’ve already watched a few dozen videos on this or whether it’s just that this guy finally made it make sense but now I GET IT. I now understand the inversion principle PLUS I now understand which side needs to be longest given an inside or outside corner.

Right there with you, I’m like 6 videos in and this one finally made since. Thank you durbin!
I really need to make an outside cut video for you guys! It’s pretty simple, just flipped the other way.
The tape measure trick was enough for me to find a different video
Still not sure how this inverted angle cut would fit squarely in the corner and flat against the wall?
Same here. After watching 10 code I have been taught.
YOU, Sir are a genius and teaching guru. I watched other videos and was still lost. 5 minutes after watching your superb video I was installing crown molding like a pro!
Can't thank you enough. Subscribed !
Long side bottom for inside corners and long side top for outside corners is such a simple yet awesome explanation. Thanks !
Absolutely! Really helped me visualize it!
This right here! I also spent hours, tilted blade even and nada but heartache! Thank you so much for this simple and effective method

Awesome! Hope to bring you more value in the future. Check out todays video for some more miter saw tips
The absolute best video I've seen on cutting crow molding. Thank you!
Turn the crown upside down is golden advice! Sets the pitch automatically when sitting on the top base of crown. Thanks for the accurate measurement tip too.

After going through a few videos, yours was the only one that does not require a jig and easy to understand. Thank you so much!
Glad I could get you started! Good luck
Thank you!!! It’s so stupidly simple To measure accurately with the tape measure now!
Glad you’re using a basic saw I see some videos would have the sliding compound saw with the laser indicator on it
Best video yet for simplifying inside cut, thanks!
the best videos to know how to cut crown Molding. thank you a lot
Seeing how easily your blade went through that molding made me to realize that it’s definitely time for me to get a new blade. 🤦🏽♀️
Thanks for the video!

Substitute the word "were" for the "was". You don't say " I could tell you"was" a quality .... it is "were".
Just subscribed!!! Thank you! You would not believe how much trouble these crown moldings have given me!!!

That's what caulk is for
Do your best, caulk the rest!
Putty/ caulking is for holes only. Always fresh blade, and its like shooting a gun, line up 3 points. I sight both front and back egde of the teeth on blade with proper side of mark. Line up 3 points and cut away!
You not explaining if the walls aren't flush 90°it won't meet up
Thank you for the sound advice
Measuring trick was fantastic
Thank you explaining the cuts and orientation in terms This DIYer understands. You made it simple!

Thank you for this!! The crown molding in my dollhouse was giving me trouble, but this helped so much!!
Best and easiest crown video I've watched. Thanks brother!!
I could not figure out how to get the angle. This video helped so much. Thanks!
Thank you so much! I think I can finally do this now. Great job explaining it!
Pain is just weakness leaving the body! Awesome.
Best on the internet for explaining how to cut this molding and measuring
Thank you my husband was killing himself trying to figure this out. I showed him this video now he got it. Thanks again 👍
Thank you. This was so helpful brother!
Thank you for this video! After having tried for a couple of hours turning the pieces around I found your video and then it was astonishingly easy to make an internal corner!
This was the best explanation I’ve seen for cutting inside corners!! Thank you
Excellent info, . After two bad cuts hopped on here and your video explained it perfectly. Thanks.
Amazing. I aspire to be a Do-it-Herself and your videos give me the confidence to try stuff on my own. Thanks so much!
That’s awesome! I hope to see you around the channel and teach as much as I can in the future!
I appreciate these basic tutorials man. As tgs said, it's much appreciated amongst us newcomers. Keep it up dude!
I really appreciate your comment! Hope to see you around the channel
You made this easy to understand. With a little practice I can do this without hiring some crown molding installer.
You are the only one who show the easy way... others make it even worst.
👍👍👍

Hundreds of videos on internal mitres, but external mitres is a rare explanation, I to would like to see an external mitre done.
Good info for us beginners. Thanks
Love the tape that's a lifesaver because crowns gotten too big for my crown sets.
Hello, thank you for your video. Do you have one showing us how to cut for lighted crown molding. I know the top is off the wall, but how far and what outside angle do I use?
I should make a video on the guide m my dad created for himself to cut crown, man can do it!
Nice tips. No coping. I don't know what to say about that. If everything is perfect on the corners, fine. But any little variation and you're screwed.
This video is purely for beginners. Coping is more advanced and will come later in skill sets
It’s helpful to glue down two pieces of wood with double tape as support on the line you made on the saw. Very helpful and makes everything stable while sawing specially when cutting short pieces.
Oh man! Thank you so much for this!! So much simpler!
Good positive energy and extremely careful cutting small pieces they are the most dangerous!
Well explained, most people down explain very well.
Loved the video, Please remind me how do you know where to mark your sharpie mark on the blue tape? Thank you!
Set your crown against the fence. It’s a quick reference mark

how do you know where to make tape line on saw?
Thank you very much it is the simplest video and the easiest to understand
Muchas Gracias 😎
Bud, that is the simplest and best explanation of how to cut inside corners on crown molding that I have ever seen. Thanks.
Well I appreciate the comment! Thanks!
Best one yet !!
Very nicely explained! It was super easy the way you explained inner cuts!
Can you please show how to make outside cuts?
Thanks Durbin Compound! Good tips!
Thanks to this video I just cut a perfect outside corner. I was trying to cut an inside corner but still
where do you put the marking of the measurement on top or bottom
Nice explanation ✊
You made this easy to understand! Thanks 😎
Thx man, this really helped me out! ❤
How did you transfer the bathroom measurement to the molding?
Could do video on cutting molding that is irregular angles like where sloping ceilings
That was very helpful and straightforward…. Thanks for the video……
How is the measurement from the backstop of the saw to the line marked "top" found?
That's what I'm wondering as well. Hopefully someone can explain it.
Great video but I wish you had explained the tape. Are you measuring out half the width of the molding?
Great video man
I know I'm a year late, but thank you for explaining it so well. Turn that crown upside down. I'll never forget it just like Lefty loosey righty tighty...lol. Thanks again.
Very well taught ty sir Semper Fi
I have yo manually saw the pieces is there an easier way? Thanks
Man you was doing so good.. I wish you would have just cut the 71 5/8 then apply.. that would have been much clearer to the inside/ outside corner narritive
Thanks for the video, stay safe during these crazy times from Chilliwack British Columbia
Thanks for the comment!
Thanks good info Bro. 👍🏼
Thanks, man! Subscribed
Great explanation for beginners. Thank you!
Do you measure and mark the top or the bottom of the crown molding?
Thanks bro, I'm nervous but I'm going to do it.
Good luck!
I have an older guy willing to bring me along on a molding job and it will be my first time being immersed with something like that. Thanks for those tips!
Good luck!
@@TheDurbinCompound thanks man! Really hoping it transcends into something long-term.
Jeffrey Meeks finish work is fun and definitely brings all the other trades work together. Very satisfying to put the final touches on everything!
@@TheDurbinCompound that's what I've heard with that kind of work, I'm sure it will be exciting!

Great, thanks.
Why cutting upside down?
Pretty clear but I'm not sure how to do an outer corner? I have a range hood I'm trying to put molding around, how much further than the 7.5" corner do I need to cut?
The outside corner is done the opposite way of the inside corners. So the any is flipped the other way on both pieces
Nice video straight to the point 👍
What angle do you place the crown on the saw? (it's not flat on the table)I'm assuming it's also a 45?
Currently going through the comments trying to find the answer as well lmfao
It’s placed on the saw just the same way it would be placed on the wall. Flat on the two sides it’s supposed to contact the wall.
Very helpful
So when u put the tape on the saw, that saise "top". Are we making a measurement for exactly where the line goes on the tape?
You rock! Thank you for the video
