What amaze me with Lovebites.. having the studioversion over the live performance video is showing how amazing Lovebites is live. Oh.. You got to check out their latest video Set the world on fire from their latest concert! Lovebites is the best Happy Metal out there today!
A first thought: I love how Lovebites with a song from 2020 is a fitting comparison for two older songs. These ladies know their metal! I have discovered them in your previous battle and have since then listened to more of their songs - there are some really solid pieces with lots of guitars. I also really like Dragonland. They come from Göteborg, the heavy metal HQ in Sweden and have been around since 2000 or so. Gladly they announced they are going to release a new album later this year, something I'm really pumped about!
Lovebites by a wide margin. It wasn't even close. Lovebites sounds so much better, more polished, more tight, and just all around great. Their guitar work is second to none.
Lovebites best in my opinion is the 2 piece live composition Miyako Piano solo on Chopin Revolutionary Etude and her song composed to go with the Chopin Swan Song her piano playing was immaculate. Lovebites beat everybody hands down also yes they speak of holy war in the song
I'm going with Dragonland. I love how technical it is almost bordering on progressive metal. On another note I'm caught up so from here on out I'll be right with you every week!
At first , I felt very wired about the sounds of Lovebites' Holy War, and found that was not from their live but from their album .....I prefer the sounds of their live in general ....))
Dragonland hands down, one of the best songs from a three album concept series. Pushing twenty years this song still holds its own. 🤘😎 Speaking of the fade-outs you don't like, You should've played the remastered version Of Dragonland's Holy War with the majestic ending restored that got truncated due to album time constraints of the time. You'll like that version more. Iron Mask comes in second with Lovebites coming in third.
LOVEBITES - Holy War lyrics: Look at those black clouds, it’s going to rain blood People live in fear, covered in mud Singing oh Gloria to change the prophecy We are the metal warriors Fighting the darkness for sisters There is a thousand, a thousand of evils Hush, do not wake up Satan’s devils Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty We are the metal warriors Fighting the darkness for brothers Shining blade and burning heart Into the Gates of Hell we march Immortal soul, let there be light Into the Eye of Heaven Eagles at a holy war Fly higher than the sun We are one for all and all for one forevermore Kingdom of Heaven, never shall we fall Reincarnation, wait for your call Singing oh, Gloria to change the prophecy We are the metal warriors Fighting the darkness for sisters Morning star and dying moon Into the Gates of Hell we march Mighty soul, let there be hope Into the Eye of Heaven Eagles at a holy war Fly higher than the sun Stand up in the name of the God of heavy metal What do we live for? What do we fight for, tonight? But the world is beautiful, worth fighting for Only have one thing on our mind Facing the fate, holy war Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty We are the metal warriors Fighting the darkness for brothers Shining blade and burning heart Into the Gates of Hell we march Immortal soul, let there be light Into the Eye of Heaven Eagles at a holy war Fly higher than the sun We are one for all and for one forevermore What do we live for? What do we fight for, tonight? But the world is beautiful, worth fighting for Only have one thing on our mind Facing the fate, holy war ----- lyrics: LOVEBITES music: Mao arrangement: LOVEBITES (miho, haruna, midori, miyako, asami)
My vote: 1. Lovebites - most virtuosic guitars, and based on what I know overall of all three bands, Haruna is the best drummer of the three (though she doesn't really showcase in this song all that much). Also, Asami has the most unique voice of the three. 2. Dragonland - most virtuosic keyboards of the three, at least with these three songs (Miyako from Lovebites is also an epic pianist, but she prefers piano to synths). The guitars were good, but not as good as Lovebites. And the vocals are very typical and don't stand out among the mass of power metal singers. 3. Iron Mask - not bad, but nothing I haven't heard a thousand times before. They were the most non-unique of the three. Good talent, but nothing on the virtuoso level of Lovebites' guitars and Dragonland's keys. And the vocals are even more typical of power metal bands, so nothing really stands out there. People often criticize power metal for being too formulaic and unoriginal, and to me, Iron Mask is the worst offender of these three in that regard.
Hello, I'm a Japanese who loves "LOVEBITES" 🇯🇵😎🤚 Even with the same song name of "HOLY WAR", I was surprised that there was such a difference, and all three groups felt attached to each other, and it was a lot of fun and interesting It was. After all, among them, "only LOVEBITES is composed only of women" was particularly unique. I would like to thank you for being genuinely entertained as a "heavy metal lover". That's why I couldn't decide the ranking.
I actually really enjoyed seeing the Lovebites love video with the studio version of the song. It also shows how well they pull it off live, they were so in sync! Dragonland's song is very good, but Lovebites wins for me.
Ladies are professional musisians for example the dream of Miyako is to play 2 concert of Rahmaninof and before Swan Song in Tokyo 2020 she plays Chopin Revolutionary Etude. Stay safe. Stay Lovebites.
I was going to say Lovebites, because of the blistering guitars, precision and the way that the whole band can really shine. Then Iron Mask really grabbed me because of the thrashy riffage, lead guitars and the grittier vocals. I guess the thing that eventually prompted me to hold Iron Mask "bach" is the ... er, Bach. I used to really love classical influences in my metal ... but I think I over indulged as a metalhead youngling, and now I just find them tiresome and a bit obnoxious. It's not you, Iron Mask; it's me! But you draw with Lovebites. ;)
@@MetalAcademix Thanks for clearing that up. Too be fair Lovebites does this song in fact all their songs better Live. I know that sounds far fetched but the girls Live stuff is even more impressive visually and audibly.
This is much needed in this depressing era, I'm glad you guys are weight-heavy in content on the melodic side, especially the power metal and fantasy-themed bands. And I don't think I've ever seen Pretty Maids and Galneryus covered under one channel before 😂 (I love it). Nor have I ever seen Blind Guardian and Candlemass juxtaposed for song of same name. Very unique! Your channel is a breath of fresh air for those of us emotionally connected to the most misunderstood and ridiculed subgenre (melodic power). There are already enough channels out there indulging in the generic Metallica/Slayer/Pantera mindset, and it's even easy to find content to fulfill esoteric death & black metal needs, but this here is COOL! It's like a Power core sprinkled with Viking, Folk, Doom, and traditional Heavy.
Oh, thank you so much, you captured our preferences very well in your comment. Welcome to the channel, and hope you find interesting episodes to browse through. If you have any suggestions, feel free to drop them in the comments as well. ⚔ - Anamaria
@@MetalAcademix Definitely! And I can certainly conjure up some strange/unique suggestions in my head. First suggestion: Scanner (de) - Your Infallible Smile (1995) VS Guardians of Time (no) - Puppets Of The Mainframe (2004). Both ballads are from albums that have a futuristic theme: Scanner's is more post-apocalyptic & Mad Max-like, whereas Guardians of Time's is more cyberpunk & advanced robotics. Scanner's song is particularly drenched in that "wet" reverb you only hear in a few metal bands' analog recordings pre-turn of the century, creating that futuristic atmosphere in the mind's eye.
Isn't it amazing I need channels like yours to discover bands from my own country? Never heard of Iron Mask, but I'm definately checking them out now. But for me , Lovebites wins this one.
I have to go with Dragonland. It’s just something about this band that i love. I think its because of the fact that three of their albums (including this one) are part of a trilogy of albums (called The Dragonland Chronicles) which tells a fantasy-themed story through music and i do love me some good fantasy! Also, it’s powermetal, so that’s an automatic win in my book. And on top of all they’re Swedish so if i don’t say Dragonland is the best one out of these three bands, i might be tried for treason or something 😄lol
Lovebites by FAR! All these bands are cool, but LOVEBITES are a class of their own. By far the best modern heavy/power/thrash/prog/symphonic band around today. Incredible talent. they encapsulate flawless perfection.
Hello guys, could you make a video of show must go on by helker (Argentina) goes show most go on by dragonfly (Argentina / Spain)? Thank you very much and greetings from Argentina
I dont understand where did you find Lovebites - Holly War version of a song that is not the real video? Video and song dont match at all. Dragonland is great but can they shred so good live as Lovebites? I doubt that
Iron Mask win by far. Better voice Better drums Better guitars (2 guitars on harmony with keys) Better lyric about the topic Better solo I mean the others are good but Iron Mask are awesome, having Dushan Petrossi the yngwie of Belgium, and have Richard Anderson on the keys say everything.
Lovebites leaps and bounds ahead in my opinion but I enjoyed your discussion. I would like to see you compare Dio's Holly Diver with the Liliac version lots of people have done it too so you could make it a 3 way 🤘
Although the studio audio synced up perfectly with the live video, this is something I strongly recommend NOT doing, especially with a band whose live shows are as well-mixed as Lovebites. They have a top notch sound crew, and their official live performances are simply better than the studio versions! I understand that you were wanting to showcase the orchestral elements more (and they are present in the live version, just not as up front), but in any other instance putting the studio over the official live with Lovebites is almost blasphemy, lol!
Lovebites has more pronounced melody, harmonics, have diversity in tunes, more sophisticated song structure. Lovebites has unique and music for your ear to hear The other 2 are also good but a bit common there is no uniqueness on them.
Lovebites for many reasons but the one which people tend to forget is these ladies comes from a culture which cannot be equate with the West in terms of Rock/Metal music and be able to do it better than probably 90% of the band in the world is in itself mind boggling.
I mean, Japan does have a huge rock and metal scene that has existed for decades. It's just that it took the West a long time to notice. Plus many Western rock and metal bands are popular in Japan and have influenced the local music scene.

Your 'concept' here is awful. You are NOT rating bands, you are rating studio recordings. On a real stage in front of an audience, Lovebites blows Dragonland and Iron Mask clear out of the water - not even close. Lots of bands can sound good - with good editing engineers cleaning up their mistakes after the fact. You're doing the equivalent of comparing autotuned vocalists to unadulterated actual human voices.

Lovebites because they are not a synphonic band and there live performances are out of this world.
Nice "battle".
Will be brief this time: Iron Mask. Plain & simple!

Look at those black clouds, it’s going to rain blood
People live in fear, covered in mud
Singing oh Gloria to change the prophecy
We are the metal warriors
Fighting the darkness for sisters
There is a thousand, a thousand of evils
Hush, do not wake up Satan’s devils
Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty
We are the metal warriors
Fighting the darkness for brothers
Shining blade and burning heart
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Immortal soul, let there be light
Into the Eye of Heaven
Eagles at a holy war
Fly higher than the sun
We are one for all and all for one forevermore
Kingdom of Heaven, never shall we fall
Reincarnation, wait for your call
Singing oh, Gloria to change the prophecy
We are the metal warriors
Fighting the darkness for sisters
Morning star and dying moon
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Mighty soul, let there be hope
Into the Eye of Heaven
Eagles at a holy war
Fly higher than the sun
Stand up in the name of the God of heavy metal
What do we live for? What do we fight for, tonight?
But the world is beautiful, worth fighting for
Only have one thing on our mind
Facing the fate, holy war
Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty
We are the metal warriors
Fighting the darkness for brothers
Shining blade and burning heart
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Immortal soul, let there be light
Into the Eye of Heaven
Eagles at a holy war
Fly higher than the sun
We are one for all and for one forevermore
What do we live for? What do we fight for, tonight?
But the world is beautiful, worth fighting for
Only have one thing on our mind
Facing the fate, holy war
