"The king was buried next to his friends Pippin and Merry of The Shire."
That hit a lot deeper than I expected... wow...
“My friends, you bow to no one.” Goosebumps and tears every time I remember💪🏼
Samsies, friend, every time.
Me too🥰😭😭
A fun fact about him is that he is 87 by the time of the war of the ring, so Elrond easily extended Aragorn's and Arwen's engagement for at least 40-50 years! Talk about an engagement commitment.
Let's see: Aragorn fell in love with Arwen when they first met in T.A. 2951. They plighted their troth on Midsummer's Day of 2980, and wed on Midsummer's Day of 3019. So, an engagement of exactly 39 years.
Hmmm, I though I already posted a reply. Aragorn and Arwen first met in the year 2951 after Aragorn's twentieth birthday, but they became engaged at Mid-year in 2980. So their engagement lasted for 39 years to the day.
Andrew, are you trying to fight people?
I'm not sure why you would even ask that. All I did was post a clarification pointing out that Aragorn and Arwen did not become engaged soon after they first met, but much later. I only ended up posting it twice because I didn't realize that there was a substantial delay before the original comment actually posted.
I'm just messing with ya, I appreciate your knowledge and interest. Isn't Tolkien's Legendarium great?! I love it! I didn't appreciate The Goblin Song in the Extended Edition of The Hobbit movie trilogy though.
Well done Viggo you played Aragon perfect! Your Danish kinds are proud of you!
Viggo really embodied the spirit of the famous ranger. Very well done.
Seriously he killed it
We really do 👌👌
Did you seriously just say Aragon? 😑
@@danielsmith225 Actually he played a Castillian very well too xD
He said "thank you all for watching" and I'm here like "no, thank you for this great video!!!" Lol
Yeah, that I was thinking!!!
My exact thought!
Great point!
I too find Aragorn to be the most compelling character in Tolkiens Tale. He is the perfect fusion of Might and Valor, coupled with, Humility and Wisdom. A Christ-Like Character indeed.
And the One to make Public the heroism of the Hobbits, to officially make it known Whom He holds in High Regard, though He be The King.
michael york agreed!
The noblest of gestures, to recognize great deeds are not done alone. Aragon has and always will be my favorite character ever conceived; the epitome of a choice leader, one striving on not because of want of power, but from the selfless desire to serve and protect all people and races. I liked the fact that he strove to make peace with the Easterlings and Haradrim as he led the rebuilding of the world. I'm afraid we will never see such a leader in our reality until the Savior comes again, vanguishes the adversary, and celestializes this world.
michael york wait so is Aragorn not the guy you play in middle earth shadow of Mordor?
@@liamepae1447 no, not hardly
Exactly. He combines the humility of Sam, the wisdom of Gandalf, and the badassery of Legolas into one.
Aragorn is my favorite LOTR character
Etrocksawesome r gamer He is like the King Arthur of The Lord Of The Rings books.
Sam and Aragorn are my favourites
@@TheLatiosnlatias02 same! I think my favorites are Aragorn, Sam, and Gandalf
@Frank Lucas I actually used to hate Borimir. But I recently re read and re watched the movies with a clearer and more adult mind lol, and now I actually really feel for him. He's a good character
I love home too but I think if we talk about all middle earth all ages tulkas makes everyone else so inferior
I was told by a certain smash mouth that all that glitter is, in fact, gold.
Also, interestingly enough, only shooting stars break the mold.
186 likes wow? did any off your fuckers read the comment.. must be a bot..
But the Gondor men beg to differ
So Aragorn is one of those men who has ventured many places around middle earth from the North, west, east and south! What a brave & great man indeed!
His last words: "In sorrow we must go, but not in despair. Behold! We are not bound for ever to the circles of the world, and beyond them is more than memory. Farewell!"
Estel!
Personally I’m happy peter Jackson ultimately ended up picking Viggo Mortensen to play Aragorn over Stuart Townsend because I could believe viggo as the grizzled hard outdoorsy honorable badass swordsman but I couldn’t really picture Stuart being anywhere close to that
I agree 100%. Viggo is such a perfect choice, his style of acting makes him the grizzled outdoorsey Ranger that we know and Love; as well as the regal, noble, just, & powerful King of Gondor and Arnor!
I think PJ's pick for casting director was the best pick of all time! No other cast is so on point as these movies! I can not picture anybody else in these roles.
Viggo is Aragorn to my eyes, plus his multi lingual background made him ideal for Elvish speaking parts.
He's also rlly hot😂
There's a scene where Viggo kicks a helmet out of frustration but he actually broke his foot and instead of stopping the scene he drops to his knees and screams out of anguish. He's a great actor.
What I love is that at the end of the war of the ring, Aragorn ends it in peace? He makes peace with the other men who followed Sauron, and he gives the Hobbits and Woses their lands as native reserves. It does not end in blood and glory but peace and progressiveness, an ending rarely given by authors in more modern times.
Aragorn orders that Mordor be cleaned and the human slaves of Nurnen be its masters, but that Minas Morgul is so evil it cannot be cleaned for a very long time.
He does have to fight the Easterlings again, but that is much later.
his kindness for the hobbits and respect for rohan make him a true and not merely a nominal or lineal king. aragorn is the traditional ideal of the king of valour and wisdom, the man of chaos who restores order in his day
Keep making these vids they strengthen me in a weird way. I am homeless, my father just died and I don't know what is next for me, but your vids give me just a lot of happiness. Tolkien was truly great and I'm grateful to you for sharing my friend.
Second Born I wish you well. Things will get better.
I am sorry for your loss my friend. I’m so glad my videos bring you happiness. There is always hope! Please reach out to me and others on this channel whenever you would like to. We are always here for you!
My appreciation
I have a small channel with my father playing one of his songs 2 days before he passed. Check it out if you have time. Thank you friends!
Ded Man-- many of us fans agrees with Men of the West. Reach out to us if you need to talk or want to rant...whatever...thats what friends are truly for. No needs for apologies...
It may b e slow in coming but stay as positive as possible- One rain drop raises the sea.
Geoffery
soooo...arwen is like the ultimate cougar, she's at least 1500+ years older than him
ABC DEF And unmarried.
Still sexy
fghfghgg ffghv Or maybe she didn't. There's certainly no record of earlier children.
1500 years is probably young age for Elf
Haha this is Tolkien we're talking about. She was probably a 1500-year-old virgin. :D
Hmmmm I either do homework or I watch Men of the West.
Men of the West.
You chose well young one.
We are proud of you. This is what is truly important. I am 42. When I was in 7th grade I faced the same choice and chose homework. Now I am destitute, not considered credible in a court of law and scorned by friends and family; choose wisely. Yes, you did.
C.J Gressman how can you watch the men of the west
Exactly the same. I'm Mid-quarantine right now, supposed to be doing an essay in English I think, I've gotten a bit behind, but here I am, watching Men of the West.
Yep 👍
"All that glitters is not gold"... I've read The Lord of the Rings numerous times and only now realised Tolkien was quoting The Merchant of Venice.
GerryBolger Well, the specific line that Tolkien used is "All that is gold does not glitter" so its not exactly but it's pretty much the same thing.
It is actually just a common saying, not just a time specific quote from Shakespeare.
no Tolkien was referring to the fact that true worth was inside of people and their destiny, not in gold or jewels as he constantly reminds us of in other works, an enemy would seem more fair and feel more foul... etc JMO
It was also used in “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin
The exact quote from the Merchant of Venice is "All that glisters is not gold"
What’s interesting is that there are a lot of similarities and parallels between Aragorn and Arwen’s relationship and the tale of Beren and Luthien. It’s interesting because I think the first time we ever hear that story is from Aragorn
Arwen died a year after Aragorn's death, she died of a broken heart, his death really affected her..
Elves have a lot more difficult of a time dealing with loss than people since they are not used to death and they have to live forever without their beloved if they die.
Even people are capable of dying of a broken heart. So it's not at all surprising for an Elf, especially one as sensitive as Arwen.
Aragorn was always my favorite from Lord of the Rings, but overall I admire Hurin. He stood to the last when all was hopeless. He never knew his sacrifice would have any meaning but he fought anyway (we must also recognize brother Huor here). His final stand ensured Turgon's escape, part of Ulmo's plan to get Tuor to Gondolin, from which a new star arose and led to Morgoth's defeat.
I find it interesting that Aragorn took so many different names. On one hand it adds to the change in his character throughout the years. It's also sort the reverse of real history where there are some legendary kings and warriors that historians do not think really existed, but were many people combined.
His teacher and mentor was Gandalf, who himself has quite a few names. Elrond also has a few alternative names, although they are versions of Half Elven.
Strider, Dunadan, Aragorn, Elessar, Thorongil, Telcontar,
My mom read The Lord of the Rings to me when i was 4, and Aragorn was always my favorite character for the same reasons you stated at the end of this video.
That's excellent parenting right there.
@@ScaredyCatLawyerLady AGREED.
I first read the Trilogy around 1970. I cannot remember how I envisioned Aragorn then. After the Lord of the Rings movies I cannot picture in my mind Aragorn looking any other way. Good video, thanks.
I like the details in the Appendices (only alluded to by Strider in the main narrative) of the decades of errantry and military leadership the character has under his belt by the time we even meet him - i.e. it’s not *only* the legitimacy of his claim to kingship and the purity of his Númenórean bloodline (which are real, significant things in this story) but also he is GOOD at being a chieftan. He’s put in the reps.
Aragorn has always been my fave character, book and film. When I first heard Viggo had been cast I'd never seen him before and when I saw a photo of him with short light hair and blue eyes I said NOOO he's not Ari! But then I said the same about McKellen when I found out he was going to play Gandalf because the only 2 things I'd ever seen Sir Ian in were Apt Pupil where he played an ex Nazi and Richard III! But I was quickly converted like 3 minutes into the movie :D. My other fave characters are Gimli (movie Gimli--comic relief), Theoden (book and film.) I didn't like Boromir in the book but I cried when Sean Bean died (yet again :D). And I thought Sir Christopher Lee just rocked as Saruman! I was sorry Eomer didn't have a bigger role but had the BEST helmet! Personally I liked Eowyn better than Arwen, Miranda Otto was so good! My main beef in casting has always been Faramir, he was too wimpy and I didn't like them changing his character. All the hobbits were fine, especially Frodo and Sammy. I just got tired of Frodo falling down! By the end of RoTK I was like "There he goes again."
chris leonard "I would have followed you my brother, my captain, my King" brings a lump to my throat just writing it. Agreed about Frodo continually throwing himself to the ground in girly way though.
Agree. I've watched Boromir's final fight and death scene at least half a dozen times, and wept every time. Bean and Mortensen were perfect.
To be fair with Frodo he did bear the One Ring on a chain around his neck. Try that when drawing secretly closer to Sauron and see how steady on your feet you are. Sam took it upon himself thinking Frodo dead and found it burdensome as well.
I always favoured Aragorn and Sam. I like Eowyn. Never did like Arwen anyway. I feel Haldir and Boromir are underrated.
I wish Beregond had a role in the film when Faramir was injured along with Elrond's sons, Bergil and Borlas. Glorfindel should have been in there too.
@@TheLatiosnlatias02, ”I feel Haldir and Boromir are underrated” - same here. Haldir is amazing and everyone forgots him..
(Eowin also - she s amazing, fighting, loving, like Galadriel in her early times !)
Aragon was 90 years old and the war of the ring and looked like in his mid 30's. He rulled over 120 years and died at the age of 210. May he rest in peace.
All that is gold does not glitter. Ah the words all Tolkien fans know. Brilliant video as always. I would love a video about Manwë.
"By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!"
I love Aragorn. But my personal favorite is Samwise (Never forget the Sam's daughter became a hand maiden or Arwen). But my love of Aragorn is great and while I knew all of these I'd never streamed them together into a smooth timeline
Although I loved Viggo's portrayal, I did not like the changes to the character in the movie. P. Jackson made Aragorn into a reluctant leader who had to be dragged, sighing, to the throne. That was a far departure from the books. His relationship to his lineage was so strong that he carried the broken sword with him, which made for some incredible moments in the books, for example, fending off the Nazgul at Weathertop with a broken sword. I don't think they did his arc much service by making him estranged from his destiny. That being said, Viggo was the boss.
Thanks a lot! Great content. I get goosebumps whenever I read "all that glitters is not gold..". Gimli next please (?).
I loved Aragorn as a character from LOTR. He is my favourite throughout all the Tolkien books. Such a strong character to look up to. I used Strider as a middle name for my son
Jaxon Wolf Strider Holt
I got some video ideas
1. History of the race of hobbits
2. Children of Hurin (i look forward to this the most perhaps)
3. Dagor Dagorath, when melkor and sauron come back amd turin kills melkor
4. Description of Numenor, the lay if the land, line of kings, etc.
Oh no you spoiled the death of Melkor! :(
(not to me because i already knew)
Simon ᛋ there are spoilers all over this channels and videos! Haha
i need a Children of Hurin video, i seem to love the story so much :D
Asstoge Ditto
Asstoge im about to order the Children of Hurin book
enchanting tale of one of my favorite and most epic of characters thank you Yoystan you've made my day
Aragorn was my favorite character after watching the movies, but after reading the books and truly being immersed in the lore, it feels like I have a personal connection with this one character, and I even use his name in every single one of my social media as well, so thank you Tolkien, for changing my life creating such an amazing character.
Definitely my favorite character too! I cried when I read the appendix where he dies, although more out of sympathy for Arwen being left without him. I wrote an essay in my uni days about Aragorn, I remember he was apparently originally supposed to be a grumpy hobbit with some weird name or something such but evolved into our king in making. Also, I explored the differences with his film counterpart, which is a much darker and conflicted character than in the books which I understand from a filmmaker's perspective but ultimately it makes no difference overall to his role. Do you have an opinion about these changes?
Simply put, Aragorn is the shit.
Fantastic Video, Extremely thorough!
Beautifully depicted - as always! Thank you again
Thank you SO MUCH i have been waiting for something like this for AGES!!
Nicely done - I’ve been waiting for this one to get a makeover. Your quality has come so far since the original that it makes some of the older videos pale by comparison!
Loved this video Yoystan I quite liked that you updated your brilliant Epic Character History of Aragorn it looks and sounds even better than it has before (but the previous version was still pretty awesome! :) ) anyway loved this video can't wait for the next one on Sunday and I look forward to more updates for more videos!!! :)
You're music is always on point man, really hits the feels.
Spectacular video yet again, extremely thorough. Well done!
Really good! Loved it! Keep up the great work. I've become a bigger and bigger fan each time I watch one of your videos. Your explanations and character histories have helped me a lot when I read Tolkien's work.
Man, your "lessons" at the end of your videos always get me. Love that part of your videos! The story part obviously as well bc you are great at telling the storries!
Absolutely loved this! Well done!!
Thank you for these videos. Keep it up!
Just wanted to say thanks for the upload! Your video production quality keeps getting better, and the work you put into it is much appreciated!
Thanks for adding pre-Jackson artwork! I love the films but also love the art that predated it.
Aragorn is my favorite Lord of the Rings character.
Aragorn is my favourite too just as Sam is
Gandalf. He got me into favoring spellcasters in RPG games 100% of the time.
Love your vids!
I didnt care for changes in the movies to him, but I do think Viggo was the best man for the role. this was always my favorite character from the books, and would have loved to read of his activities in the 4th age, I always poured over the Appendices
you have done well again Yoystan
I stumbled on your site a few days ago. And I must say, I really enjoy it!! You have awoken in me a new desire to really delve into the world of. middle Earth! I love how you do each character one by one. I am finding out things I never knew before! Thank you for a wonderful site to enjoy!
Well done as usual. You never seize to amaze me.
If you're going to remake another video I think a redone Kings of Rohan would be interesting. Or anything dealing with the dwarves as I feel their history and some of their characters are the most interesting and compelling. Love the channel, keep up the excellent work!
One of my most favourites.Thank You,a worthy narrative!
I'm consistently blow away by the work you put into this. I love your entire channel, keep up the amazing work 🤙
Absolutely love these videos, mate. keep up the good work!

tales from the greatest of world builders. everything that goes into

of LOTR back in 1964 when i was 17. still compelling.
Literally one of the only reason I go on RUclips. This was such a good video please never stop doing what you do ..

Such awesome narration, I'm totally hooked and now understand the entire series
Thanks for that character history. Really helpful.
Really great! Thank you!
Just found your channel a few days ago, currently loving it. You just earned a new subscriber
I got goosebumps the moment you read the poem! really nice that you remade this video, I tried watching the old one a while back, but the audio was not that great so I did not wacth the whole thing, now though it's awesome and I have really enjoyed all of your reccent videos, keep it up! :)
Been away for a time. Apologies. What a wonderful gift upon my return. Great remake! Narration and art used was awesome. Look forward to more.

Dude yessss! Epic video man! I need more books! after being a fan of the films for so long im finally reading the books! Thanks for the info!
Aragorn is my personal favorite LOTR's character in both books and filmes, and is my favorite fantasy character ever 👑❤ Thank you so much for this video.🤗
Fantastic once again!
Your tribute does the character justice. Well done.
All I Have to say is............
Boromir: "I would have followed you, my brother... My captain... My king."
And who is your *Favourite Hobbit* and Why?!!
Thanks for the Video Mellon, Until the Next One............Marion Baggins Out
I love Boromir ❤️
Good video! Keep it up! My favorite character by far!
Aragorn is my favorite character too. What an awesome video. Keep up the good work my friend 👍
I really appreciate your videos...they have given me a new perspective on the books, though I've read them several times. Looking forward to more! Maybe one about the horses of Rohan, especially Shadowfax?
Awesome as always man! :)
Great content my friend! Thank you for sticking close to the books.
you'v give us a masterpiece . thank you
@Men of the West you again are my most favorite RUclipsr and by far the one of the best I have ever seen.
Great work here! Keep it up!
Nice work dude
I've been watching these videos in bulk for about two weeks, and I can safely say that i've learned about 70% of my knowledge of Middle-Earth from your videos, and I thought I knew a lot before-hand! Keep them up, they make slow days better.
Awesome as always yoystan!
Thanks for doing this, your work is wonderful but your skills in narration and presentation have greatly improved a since the first incarnation of the video.
More content creators should remake some of their older material like this.
Well done, sir.
I swear, this is the channel I've been looking for all my life! Epic video! It's amazing how awesome of a character Aragorn is even if you don't know of his deeds before Lord of the Rings. I have a few video ideas that might be cool.
1. What if Gandalf was not resurrected? It'd be interesting what would happen to Rohan, as Theoden would not be freed of Saruman and Grima's influence.
2. What if the entire Fellowship traveled to Mordor with Frodo? Except maybe Boromir and Aragorn, for they may have gone to Minas Tirith instead.
Aragorn is my favorite character as well. Thank you for the video.
Amazing work!
just fyi I loveeee your videos! Thank you so much! hope you have a good day m8
I’m leaving a like.. and I’m barely thru the beginning!!! lol great work!!
(as always!!)
