- Helm’s Deep was home to the fortress of the Hornburg in Middle-earth. It withstood some different battles, and in each, depicted the strength, valour, and might of the Rohirrim. Thank you all for watching, I hope you guys enjoyed it! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! As always, a great thanks to the online artists whose visual works made this video possible! If you are one of the artists, please let me know and I will post your name and a link to your work in this description!

Helm Hammerhand sounds like the biggest badass in all of Arda. Just wandering the frozen hills punching people to death
Like my last Skyrim play 😆
🤣🤣🤣🤣 dude. He’s too hard
“What’s happening out there?”
“Shall I describe it to you, or would you like me to find you a box?”

Gimli: SEND THEM TO ME! COME ON!!!
Aragorn: Ladders!
Gimli: Good!
I think that cemented their friendship right there

"Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing? Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing? Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like the wind in the meadow. The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow. Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning, or behold the flowing years of the Sea returning?
....how did it come to this?"
That was beautiful man.
It was largely inspired by a very old English rhyme which lamented the kingless destitution of the land and vulnerability to marauders. Very fitting for the setting of LotR.

" And then, sudden and terrible, from the tower above, the sound of the great horn of Helm rang out.
All that heard that sound trembled. Many of the Orcs cast themselves on their faces and covered their ears with their claws. Back from the Deep the echoes came, blast upon blast, as if on every cliff and hill a mighty herald stood. But on the walls men looked up, listening with wonder; for the echoes did not die. Ever the horn-blasts wound on among the hills; nearer now and louder they answered one to another, blowing fierce and free.
'Helm! Helm!' the Riders shouted. 'Helm is arisen and comes back to war. Helm for Théoden King!'"
For no army has ever set foot inside the Hornburg! Or breached the Deeping Wall!
Yes! The Horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep. One last time.

I used to come home from school an just watch the Battle of Helms deep all the time when it came out. Still holding the line friend, good to see you.

Easily one of my favorite places in Middle-Earth. The Battle of the Hornburg was so glorious, in movie and in the novel, and one of the events that convinced me to read LotR and forever fall in love with the Tolkien legendarium.
The Battle of Helm's Deep was my favorite battle.
Me too, its really iconic!!

Sorry, I don't know how to spell your name and would feel bad if I spelt it wrong. Anyway you should make the top ten most powerful Middle earth moments whether it is in the books or movies. By the way, your content is through the roof, you bring the middle earth world to live with your videos, I don't know how it's possible but you are great and thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent with everyone else.
The best part of the Third Age game was that you were allowed to explore this place and Hadhod could actually use the supposed hammer of Helm Hammerhand.

Yoystan, I haven't seen you show John Howe and Alan Lee artwork very much. They are the best!
The Hornburg, a fortress build by the master of fortress building the men of numenor, maned by the fearsom warriors of rohan and with a legion of drawfs from the cave. I pitty everyone who dares to attack it.
I strongly believe that if professor was still living he would admired your work!!
It's interesting. In the books Theoden is advised to ride for Helm's Deep. But in the movies he's told to meet the hosts of Isengard in open battle on the plains. Never understood why the change. Theoden's host wasn't large enough to meet Isengard head-on. 🤔
Great video though! 👍
Another great video Yoysten! How about a regional spotlight on Eryn Galen (Greenwood the Great)?
Mae govannen Yoystan, hope you are doing well :)
Thanks for all that you do each week. The battle of Helms Deep was such a great read compared to the movies version. Nothing against Peter Jackson, just the talent of a great writer in Tolkien. Thanks again.

Fine work. Familiar with the battle from Peter Jackson's film take on it, which was very well done.
My favorite map/ level in bfme1&2+rotwk
There was a grand fortress at the end of Helm's Deep
With a mighty thick wall and a very tall keep
Built by the men of Gondor and given to the men of Rohan
It would see many battles that would go on and on
Named for the king who could kill with a single blow
In the year of the long winter many enemies he laid low
He died frozen standing upright one day still ready for a fight
And forever the keep's hornberg would blow when it's men took flight
King Theoden gathered there in his people's time of need
In hopes of saving his people from Saruman's evil deeds
Many orcs, Uruk-hai, and Dunlendings would meet their end here
Many were felled by the sword, arrows, horses, and spear.
Yet the walls that had held off enemies through many wars
Were suddenly breached by a device that belched fire and roars
This is the closest the fortress ever came to falling
Yet the Men of Rahan turned the tide with the horn's great calling
From the break of dawn victory came from an army with shields red
The ground was then littered with all the Uruk Hai dead.
Yet the story of the fortress does not end there
For after the war the men and dwarves did many a repair
The glittering caves did the dwarves colonize a new home
And the beauty and majesty of the fortress was forever shown!
I love how you always reiterate the message and lesson we should learn from each story.
“Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin, and the red dawn. Forth, Eorlingas!
I loved what happened after the Battle of Helms Deep, when the Ents brought trees and created a makeshift “forest” to lure the fleeing Uruk-Hai into a deathtrap... 😆

That last drawing at 13:52 its one of the best I ever saw for Tolkien Works. Not only the main 3 characters on front but background as well is so well done and usage of shadows here daamn !
The battle of helm's deep is my favorite. Gimli son of Glóin, takes the lead on the game of kills. A bloodied head, but still stern!

This was a fascinating recounting. Really nice work.
Gotta love those old Gondorian forts repurposed as national castles. :)
I don’t like how the movies made gimli to look kind of like a bumbling sidekick. In the books he was an animal in this battle and none could stand before his ax. Another great video Y. I love your insights at the end of all of these. You speak with a wisdom beyond your years.
So excited to see more Rohan Lore!

Sam: those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something. Even if you were to small to understand. But I think mister Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something.
Frodo: what are we holding onto Sam?
Sam: that there's some good in the world, mister Frodo. And it's worth fighting for!
Thank you for making such great content! I'm sure you have given the love Of Tolkien to so many new fans.

Great great great video. One of my favorites of yours. Thank You!
I’ve always found the Battle of Helm’s Deep to be somehow even more inspiring than the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. The victory of the Woods/Huorns over Industry/gunpowder; the victory of Hope and Faith over Despair-it is indeed a great moment in *THE LORD OF THE RINGS.*
Another great video. Thanks my dude 👍
It’s an epic scene in the movie and stuff. But the book makes such an epic chapter. I love it. And it really cranks up my imagination. I always see certain things and feel similar emotions. It’s a stacked piece of writing.

Hello Yoystan, As always a wonderful video. I have a video suggestion. Can you make a video of all Craftsmen in Middle Earth (Elves, Dwarves and Men) and their works, and where their works ended up at the end of the tale. Thanks.

Love this channel so so mutch! ❤️👍
First of all, love your videos and commend your work in creating them for all Tolkein fans to enjoy. They are very informative and feature excellent artwork. I just wanted to bring to your attention the mention of Freca at 3:25. According to the Appendix A of Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, Tolkien makes it clear that Freca "claimed" to be a descendent of King Fréawine, not that he actually had Rohirric blood. The reason I make this point is that I heard another podcast on Helm Hammerhand which questioned Helm's attitude towards Freca since they too thought that Freca may have had a legitimate reason to seek the wedding since they too believed Freca had Rohirric blood. Maybe it's not a big deal, but when reading this story in the Appendix, I came away thinking Helm had every right to protect his people from an audacious and intimidating manner of a man claiming Rohirric blood.
Great video guys!
I feel like Helm's daughter probably took her own life cuz they're only other option was marrying Wulf. And the wild men arent so different from orcs in terms of civility
Tolkien makes a point to show that there was good among the Dunlendings, and while some were cruel (as is found in all people), many were just deceived by Saruman. They did have legitimate grievances against their territory being taken. And they were kin to the Edain of the First Age.
Actually hasan I believe she died of a broken heart after she heard that her father died but we’ll never know. But that’s what I believe happened to her!
@@jesuscoyt-munoz2753 I thought both his children died relatively at the same time. His son died when they took the castle so I just assumed his daughter died within that timeframe
That’s also true hasan but I guess only Tolkien will know the truth and us fans are just l left with theories.
@@jesuscoyt-munoz2753 if I knew necromancy I'd ask him myself
You should take a look at Ardacrafts interpretation of middle earths most famous places. They build the continent 100% by the books and the landscapes are gorgeous. Their screenshots and wallpapers would do marvels for you to illustrate your videos.
The Crystal caves there. The light refracts on the walls like a painting they put the gems to make it reflect to make a painting on the walls. So that way they're always there
You know, whenever I see a 'Region Spotlight' video in my suggested, I always read it as 'REH-gee-on', as in 'The Forest of Region'. And then I think, "What's he talking about, Helm's Deep (e.g.) isn't in Region?!" And then I realise my mistake... again. Maybe you should make a region spotlight on Region.
About the oaths, i said 'i will be their shield' for sure. Never promised forever. However maybe in the future, if my work and family provide me more free time, i might come back as full time or suggestion centered, if accepted. But now, it is complicated then ever. Thanks for understanding and friendship. Ciao ;)
