I find it hard to believe there's a single human on earth of any race, nationality or creed that has not heard the Beatles. And I'm not some old timer born in the 50s that grew up on them. I'm 32 and I think no matter your age or generation, this music stands the test of time and for me reached out to me and sucked me in. When I say nobody has never heard this... the day my daughter was born, I was this hopeless father with no idea what to do and this beautiful baby girl in my arms only hours old, my wife still unconscious from the surgery, and I'm trying to rock her to sleep... I sang her this song. It was the first song my daughter ever heard. So if your dad was a fan, you may not remember, but I'm sure you heard it.

Dear OM, The Beatles are the best Rock/Pop group in history! One thing you have to understand is that, over their 8 years of work as recording artists, they changed a lot. A LOT! So, with this video, you are picking up with them in 1968, which was 6 years after their first recorded single, from late 1962. But, if you were to listen to them from 1963-65, you would hear a very different sound, since they developed their style, musicianship, song-writing, and sound over the years. So, there is early Beatles/Beatlemania from 1963 - 1965. Then there is Psychedelic/Progressive Beatles from 1966 - 1967. Then there is the Classic Rock Beatles, from 1968-1970. I love them all, but I grew up on the early Beatles, so I have a special place in my heart for those years. Anyway, you have a lot to catch up on! Welcome to the Beatles Rabbit Hole! Great ready for a life-changing experience! :)

    Crash course on The Beatles:
In 1957, John Lennon met Paul McCartney when they were kids in Liverpool, England and still in school... Both loved American rock and roll music and John Lennon formed his band The Quarrymen as a skiffle band cos he and his friends could not play professionally... Paul McCartney was a musician because he learned from his dad, who was a professional musician... Paul taught John how to play guitar... and then piano... He also introduced him to George Harrison, who was a talented guitarist but exceptionally young... After finishing school, John Lennon went to art school and became friends w/ another artist named Stu Sutcliffe.
In 1960, Lennon and McCartney's band w/ George Harrison finally settled on The Beatles as the band name... Stu Sutcliffe was asked to play bass... Pete Best (drums) joined the new rock and roll band and they played in Hamburg, (West) Germany that year as a professional band for the first time... However, they were deported after George Harrison was discovered to be under 18 years of age.
The Beatles spent time playing covers at gigs between Liverpool and Hamburg in 1961... Stu Sutcliffe became romantically involved w/ a German photographer (who first photographed The Beatles in Hamburg) and left the band... Paul McCartney switched from guitar to bass so that John and George could play guitar... Sadly, Stu Sutcliffe died unexpectedly in 1962 from a brain aneurysm.
The Beatles played cover songs live but Lennon and McCartney started writing original songs together - they made a pact that they would share credits to every Beatles song they wrote... Eventually, George Harrison also started to write his own songs... In 1962, The Beatles were called the best rock and roll band in England but were passed over by the music industry... Finally, a British producer George Martin agreed to work w/ The Beatles and record their first songs... However, drummer Pete Best was no longer putting in 100% into the band. He was replaced in 1962 by Ringo Starr (drums) who was from Liverpool and had substituted for Best at a few gigs before joining.
'Love me do' was the song that became The Beatles' first hit single in late 1962... More songs were recorded and The Beatles had a huge hit album in 1963 - "Please, please me"... The single "Please, please me" became an even bigger UK hit. The were nicknamed 'The Fab Four' as they toured the UK and the reaction to The Beatles was so extreme that the press eventually called it 'Beatlemania'... w/ crowds of screaming girls mobbing The Beatles when they appeared for concerts. John Lennon and Paul McCartney were the main singers, but George Harrison would also sing on the mic and so did Ringo Starr, just to give the audience variety.
2nd album 'With the Beatles' was released in 1963 as the band toured Europe... In the USA, their records were starting to sell but The Beatles refused to come to N. America unless they had a #1 record there (They had several in the UK by that point)... That hit song finally came in late '63 - "I want to hold your hand" ... went to #1 on the US charts... The Beatles finally arrived in N. America to tour in early 1964 and appeared on national TV on the 'Ed Sullivan Show' and earned huge ratings... Beatlemania had come to America.
More hit records came in 1964/ '65 by The Beatles ... "A hard day's night" (which also became The Beatles' first big screen movie)... "Can't buy me love"... 'Ticket to ride' ... "I feel fine"... 'Help!" (which became The Beatles' second big screen movie)
But by 1966, the crowds at Beatles' show had gotten so big and so loud that the band could barely hear themselves play... and the audiences also couldn't hear them cos the equipment they had at the time was not loud enough... John Lennon made a comment about "The Beatles being bigger than Jesus" (as a humorous remark) but religious groups took it the wrong way and public threats began against the band.
Fed up w/ the loud crowds and constant attention, The Beatles announced in 1966 that they would end their touring days... They wanted to focus on their music and other ventures... In 1967, they formed their own label Apple Corp. in order to give artists a chance to be heard.
In 1967, The Beatles made a dramatic change in their sound and image... They incorporated more psychedelic influences into their records and grew their hair out long on the album "Seargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band"... Despite not touring anymore, The Beatles were more popular than ever by 1968 as they completed and released a double self-titled album (Often called 'The White album')
More hit singles came - 'Yellow submarine' ... 'Hello goodbye' ... 'All you need is love' ... 'Hey Jude' ... 'Penny Lane' ... 'Strawberry fields forever'... etc.
However, internal disagreements between the band members over songs, finances and management were starting to affect The Beatles by 1968... An attempt to film The Beatles recording an album and playing a rooftop free concert proved disastrous as no tracks were completed at the time.
The Beatles released their final studio album 'Abbey Road' in 1969 and it became one of their biggest records... George Harrison even scored a #1 single - 'Something'... But the band members' were no longer on the same page by that point.
John Lennon told them in 1969 that he was leaving the band... In 1970, Paul McCartney sued the 3 Beatles in court to terminate their partnership and divide the band's assets fairly between them... McCartney later explained that Lennon, Harrison and Starr signed w/ manager Allen Klein, while Paul was managed by his wife Linda McCartney's family... He suspected Klein was ripping off the band as manager and since he wasn't signed contractually to Klein, he had to sue the other Beatles to keep Klein from taking advantage of the band.
All four members of The Beatles went for solo careers by 1972 and Paul McCartney quickly became the most successful of the 4 former members... John Lennon would eventually settle in NYC by 1975 after recording a few solo albums and didn't make another solo album until 1980. George Harrison also had successful solo records... but Ringo Starr was not a prolific songwriter and he was only moderately successful.
In late 1980, tragedy struck when John Lennon was shot dead in NYC by a deranged fan; he was only 40 years of age... His death ended any possibility of a Beatles reunion.
In 1994, John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono handed the surviving Beatles 3 demos that John Lennon had recorded before his death... McCartney, Harrison and Starr completed and released 2 new Beatles songs in 1995 - 'Free as a bird' and 'Real love'... A third song 'Now and then' was not completed... Sadly, George Harrison passed away from cancer in 2001.
In 2023, new software technology was available to 'fix' the 'Now and then' demo tape so that the tracks could be completed w/ all 4 Beatles on it (George Harrison had played some guitar on it) ... 'Now and then' became the final Beatles song to be released.

One good way to quickly experience The Beatles is to begin with their "Red" album compilation which has many of their hit songs from their 1962 to 1966 era. Then go with the "Blue" album which has their songs from 1967 to 1970 era before they broke up. "Hey Jude" was released in 1968 so it would be on the blue album. Listening to The Beatles early music as a boy band later growing into a musically mature innovative rock group is one of the greatest artistic evolution in music history.

The Beatles are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and each member is also in the Hall of Fame individually for their solo careers. George Martin, their producer, told them Hey Jude was far too long and they'd need to shorten the na-na-na part or radio stations wouldn't play it. John's answer was, "Yes they will, because it's us". John was right, radio stations did play the full song and it tied the record for weeks spent at number 1 in the US and Billboard named it the number 1 song of 1968.

The Beatles launched their own label because every album they released before, the studio would farm out all their songs to other bands. There were at least a dozen covers of yellow submarine out before the band that wrote it debuted the song. Singles were meant to be short, as well, to drive coin sales at the jukebox, so this was the Beatles debut response, an 8 minute single.

There are many good suggestions here but I think you should treat yourself to all 214 songs that they did. There are plenty of concert footage and TV appearances This was a staged TV appearance where the Beatles play the theme song of the David Cross show before they say could you.

The Beatles have an entire cd of #1 songs and a lot of very good songs are not on the cd. They started as a pop band but they grew and grew and grew. If you start with 1963 and go to 1970 you will see that growth. Love your channel.

Basically, they started as a rock'n'roll band, but very quickly moved into all kinds of genres within pop&rock, and, as is well known, often developed these to the next level.

    Fantastic!
We have just witnessed the birth of yet another Beatles fan.
    It often happens this way.
A young person who hasn't really listened to the Beatles before because, you know, that was like my dads music that older people are always hyping up.
Then, one day, they decide to sit down and actually listen to a Beatles track, and that's it, hooked for life.
They can't put their finger on it, but there's something in Beatle music that touches them deep inside and makes them feel good.
They then understand why the Beatles are the greatest band of all time.
In a way, I envy you discovering new (to you) Beatle songs. I was there from the start and remember the anticipation and thrill of hearing a new Beatles song or album.
You will have a fantastic musical journey with the Beatles.
I won't try and recommend a track for you to listen to next, close your eyes and stick a pin in their catalogue, they are that good.

Awesome reaction, and I'm glad you enjoyed the Beatles. The Beatles have over 200 songs, and many different types of songs. Their early songs were great but very short. Therefore when picking a song, look at the amount of time it is so you don't get surprised that the song ends quickly during a reaction. Here are a few suggestions. Don't Let me Down from the rooftop concert, Let it Be (another beautiful song sung by Paul), She Loves You or Twist and Shout (short songs live from the Ed Sullivan Show). The early songs from the Ed Sullivan Show literally redefined rock music, and set many cultural trends in hair styles, clothing, and values. Whatever you choose I will be looking forward to your reaction.

I'm glad that you mentioned the "Kaiser Chiefs". Their song, "I Predict a Riot" could have been about Beatlemania where everywhere The Beatles went publicly almost turned into a riot from all the crazed fans. Thankfully all the teenage girls remained perfectly well behaved and entirely restrained from acting out emotionally whenever they saw the fab four. It was just the teen boys who went nuts.😉

McCartney said when he first wrote t he song, and ran it by John, he told John he was going to change the line "The movement you need is on your shoulder... to somehting better. John said "No you won't!! it's the best damn line in the song!!" so it was left in...this os how McCartney and Lennon collaborated on songs.

Huge song, both as a single and a video. The Beatles are the best band, period my dear, they started everything when the made their international debut in 1964, Rock was never the same after. For more Beatles greatness, do the video for A Day in the Life and be amazed. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎤🎸🎤🎹🎶

I just discovered you, and I loved the reaction! So cool! Since you're just getting started, I thought I would give you a little context on just how big The Beatles were (and are). In the 8 years they recorded, they (still) have the most #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with 20 #1 hits, and 35 overall top 10 hits. Also, it's important to note that The Beatles are the biggest selling music artist of all time, and nobody else even comes close. Bigger than Michael Jackson, bigger than Elvis, bigger than Prince or Madonna, bigger than Drake or Rhianna, bigger than any other music artist that ever breathed air and walked the face of this earth. Do a quick google search and you'll see what I'm talking about. I am so looking forward to your journey! I would start with the first album (Please, Please, Me) and go in chronological order from there until their final recorded album, Abbey Road. Just a suggestion. Whatever you choose will be cool and I'm looking forward to more Beatles reactions!
    I subscribed!
    Peace

I love it..... This is by far the deepest rabbit hole you will ever fall down Ola. There really isnt another library of music by a band or artist like the Beatles except for maybe Elvis. I would recommend you get to know them chronologically so you better understand the crazy amount of influence they had. I was so happy when i saw this in my notifications, this will be so cool to ride along with you while you discover the best band ever.

Love love love The Beatles. All members have done Solo projects, Paul went on to a terrific Solo career (with his band Wings) and John Lennon did some classics on his own (Imagine is a must listen) until his horrifying murder. Ringo and George did many Solo collabs as well. I had fun watching with you! 🙌

8:58--It's because the band was so tight with thier fans, and everybody knew the break=up was coming--for all they knew, it was the last time this British audience would get to see their hometown boys..And for many of them, it was..less than a year later they called it a day. You can't find a bad song by them..they were hit making machines thier whole 10-year run, with 6 LP's ranked in the top 100 G.O.A.T.'s. including no. 1 " Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band"
