@@gavinhall6040 Pink Floyd's psychedelic period with their early singles: "Arnold Layne" and, especially,"See Emily Play" (Video is fun) was influenced they said by THe Beatles.
One of the record company execs warned that radio stations would never play a 7-minute song with 3 minutes of "na na na" at the end. To which John replied, "They will if it's us."
Actually, Macarthur's Park was released four months before Hey Jude with a run time of 7 min. 21 sec.

When you will know their whole work, you will see that their were not a band but a miracle.
There was only one band ever in the world who's music is timeless. And that's the beatles. The music will bridge generation for ever and ever.

Hey Jude was #1 for 9 weeks in the USA in the fall of 1968. Their biggest selling single. They had not had a single record for 5-6 months [since Lady Madonna]. Some critics used this to claim the Beatles were washed up. Then Hey Jude came out and shout them up and knocked them on their ass. hahahha.
The best thing on the video is the kids reactions... They know this is such an iconic moment

Did you notice at 4:50 into the video where Paul makes eye contact with John as he had forgot to join in with backing vocals and John makes an oh well expression back to Paul. So then at 6:30 into the video Paul makes eye contact with John again to remind him to join in this time with backing vocals.
And they crack up laughing.

The actual studio video debuted in the U.S. on Oct. 6, 1968 on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. I don't know if this performance on the David Frost Show in the UK was planned. David Frost was a very famous TV host of comedy/satire shows and had John Cleese as a performer/writer on The Frost Report along with the other Pythons.

The humor of the Beatles was the part of the intro, live, the stuffy British host, thought he would dictate how the intro would go, and Lennon and the boys threw him a loop..Live TV...then they debut this Masterpiece..also LIVE. 😁🤔❤️✌️

Got to see Paul McCartney in San Francisco in 2010 on my birthday with my oldest daughter and 40 thousand of our closest friends for over 3 hours of great music and everyone young and old stood and sang along!

Paul wrote this song to John Lennon's song Juliun whose parents were getting divorced...the screaming was done by Paul who really goes all out on the studiosong...he said it was so much fun doing it

When each member went on and did their own music, it was great, however when you put them together, it`s MAGICIAL.
The first line of the song was written for John's son Julian (initially sung as Jules) but the rest of the song is about the end of Paul's relationship with his longtime love Jane Asher and the new beginning with Linda Eastman, his soon to be wife. Paul has said so. Julian recently released an album (last year?) titled "Jude".
for me the one word that best describes the beatles is "magical." with each new album, i collected them white album to let it be and then backward from magical mystery tour to their first album (the american versions). each new album took me to different world of magic and wonder. the beatles were a fairytale brought to life. a fairytale for all ages and backgrounds. i can never fully express the extent of the pleasure these people brought into my life.

The background orchestra was probably part of the David Frost show from which this clip comes from ..they play his theme tune at the beginning which may have been an intro from a commercial break.The people are from the audience.
I love how the crowd is such a cross-section of humanity. Young, old, white, black, there's a Sikh gentleman, just totally indiscriminate.

This was very intentional because the White Power movement was gaining steam in Britain at that time and discrimination against black and Asian people was becoming widespread. The Beatles, the most popular and influential group in the world were saying the hell with that and making a powerful statement for inclusivity.
Me too...! I read somewhere that they were not the usual David Frost Show TV audience, but special guests invited by the Beatles themselves, made up of the young girls that used to regularly hang around the Apple office and other places for a glimpse or a word with a Beatle, affectionately nicknamed by them Apple Scruffs (scruffs meant 'apple core' in Liverpool slang, and also scruffily dressed people); fan club members; and lastly, invitations given out at random by students in Twickenham, a mixed demographic suburb of London where the film studio was where this was recorded. They all spent the day there with several takes making up the final 'video', so audience and band were all very comfortable and having fun with each other by the end, as is clear in the Na-na-na section.
Oh, and the old guy with the carnations behind his ears was a street performer/ busker the Beatles had befriended, who hung out with them for a while. His schtick was to stand in the middle of the road balancing a wine bottle on his head while belting out music-hall and show songs... 🙂

This was The David Frost Show (the serious guy in the beginning) I finally saw Paul McCartney (the vocalist) a few years ago and the whole audience stands up for this one, he has the audience sing the "Na Na Na Na"s without music, I got chills! The song is actually about Julian Lennon, the young son of John Lennon, who is the guitarist with glasses. When John and his wife got divorced, Paul wrote the song for Julian ("Jude") to let him know that things will get better. There's something about the song that just makes people feel good. Also interesting to note is the different ethnicities and nationalities in the audience. The Beatles' fame rose in the 1960's when segregation was widespread. They refused to play, and would cancel performances if the audiences were segregated at their concerts.
Not really. It was actually the video for the song Hey Jude directed by Michael Lindsay Hogg and filmed at Twickenham Studios in Sept 1968 . David Frost recorded an insert at the beginning to give the illusion that The Beatles were exclusively appearing on his show.They also filmed a promo for Revolution the same day.

There was segregation in South Africa, of course, but Paul McCartney (their bassist, playing piano in this song) stated in 1966 that the Beatles did not harbor prejudice. “We always liked to present audiences of various ethnicities… We never wanted to play South Africa or any other country where blacks were separated because our attitude was shared by everyone in the group.”
South Africa banned the playing of Beatles records. Israel banned them from entering the country too, and they still are… and look, Israel is now accused of being an apartheid regime too! China also banned them, and Russia, but then they banned all western culture.

I got to see Paul McCartney in concert last June, and when he and his band played "Hey, Jude" , everyone sang along, especially the "Nah, nah, nah, nah's" it was a blast, and deeply moving.
Way before we had video tape. I purchased a copy of this on super 8mm color sound film in January of 1979 !!! Needless to say, all my friends were blown away that I had a copy of this !!! LOL :)

This was their first "public appearance" since they quite touring in 1966. This experience led them to bgin the Get Back sessions which originally was to be rehearsals for a television performance.

It was a TV show and they hadn’t done a live performance in a few years (they stopped touring because of Beatlemania) so those folks were definitely having a pinch-me moment lol. Yes, Paul lead all vocals, screams and all 💙

I was watching that film, The Day The Earth Stood Still with Keanu Reeves as Klaatu. My favourite bit was when he was about to allow that big robot to destroy the world, until Dr Helen Benson gives him the Beatles White Album. That was the moment Klaatu decides to spare the Earth.

Review if you please, the last few songs from side 2 of Abbey Road also known as "The Medley"
"Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End" it's short, about 5 minutes, 7 seconds but it's their swan song as that album, Abbey Road was the actual last album they recorded together though "Let It Be" was the last one released but recorded before Abbey Road.
Those “notes that flow” are referred to as “The Melody.”
It didn't affect the music, but the image of this video is reversed, and so John and George look left handed. Enjoyed your reaction to this classic song.

I was a pimply faced teenager in Southern California in the early 1960s, when popular music was dominated by American artists playing Hollywood sanitized rock and roll. Then came the British invasion headed by the Beatles. However, this didn't affect mainstream or orchestral music. Then in 1967 the Beatles released Sargent Pepper's, and the whole music world pivoted. For me, Sgt. Pepper's was musical 'ground zero, so great was it's impact. The album gave permission to so many musical artists of all genres to be their best creatively. There is a documentary made from film recordings of their last recording sessions at Abbey Road studios, including the roof top performances, of songs that went into two albums; Abbey Road and Let it Be. The best part of the documentary is seeing this group create incredible songs out of thin air in real time.

There is nothing I can really say about "Hey Jude" that hasn't been said already. Is EPIC!!!❤❤❤❤. But correct me if I'm wrong, but this looks like a different version of the video. I mean I'm seeing different images and shots that I haven't seeing before. The angles are also different.
The video on this clip is a mirror image of the original. Both John and George look like they are playing guitar left handed and Ringo's drum set is backward.

I never understand these organisations that block content on RUclips. People like you bring this music to new audiences who are then likely to go out and buy the records. Sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face to me. I’m 64 and still love listening to and watching people discovering new music.
I’m with you. I’ve felt sorry for the younger generations that didn’t grow up with the Beatles or any of the incredible music we’ve heard most of our lives. It’s fun to see them react to songs that are part of the soundtrack of my life.
By the way, I had to smile when you said you were 64, having just heard Paul McCartney singing lead on a Beatles song. I’ll be there in three years. (For anyone who doesn’t know what I’m talking about, the Beatles have a song called “When I’m Sixty-Four.” Paul wrote it when he was about fourteen. He’s eighty now and still going strong.)

I don 't know if it's You Tube that block them or the groups themselves. One thing I don't understand is, you have channels like this one that just played a Beatles song, and you have another channel like Rick Beato (Love his channel by the way, don't get me wrong) who says he can't even play snippets of Beatles songs because they block them. So why is it they can play a group's music on one channel but not on another channel?
The guy standing up in the foreground is the host of a UK show, David Frost< UK equivalent of Jonny Carson > the beatles are playing a 'deliberately' crappy rendition of the theme tune to his show - before launching into an even worse rendition of 'its now or never' - as a contrast to 'the main event' a song paul wrote to try to help Julian Lennon (Jude) get over the breakdown of his father's (John Lennon) marriage to his mum... What happens next is totally mind blowing - a 'live' performace that is 'crashed' by literally hundreds of people from the whole spectrum pf people in the UK at the time - it is absolutely mind blowing!

What folks who react to the Beatles can't or don't understand is that in the 60s 70s the Beatles were not just a group, they were a happening. Never toured much they were too busy writing & recording stretching the capabilities of the limited technology of that era.
The beginning was their winder, brittish, maybe high on a little weed, absurdist humor, its funny af once u get used to it....whereas any other band wouldve taken a televised performance seriously (not to mention so many watching expecting perfection from them (which they delivered here, but that crazy intro prob made even devoted fans a little nervous, lol)....anyway, instead of being uptight, they were just their weird selves, especially john “its now or nevvver” in a crazy exaggerated brittish accent instead of a soul music vo8ce like that intro song is usually sung....john was nuts, hed mock anything at any time....even stuff he loved like american r&b music (i think that was a song elvis had done)

Thought it was George providing the bass since Paul is at keyboards but video shows them both with 6 strings. Perhaps this is the reason Paul had double vocals through parts of the song: he must have come in earlier and laid down a vocal track and a bass line to make up for the bass guitar being missing in the video.

The video is from the show “Frost on Sunday,” (Sept. 8, 1968) with host David Frost. It would be David Frost's interview with Richard Nixon where Nixon would suggest that the actions of a sitting President are above the law (the same thing that Donald Trump and his lawyers believe as well).
