Paul wrote this song in the aftermath of his mother’s death. He said , he was having a nightmare and in the middle of it, a vision of his mother (whose name was Mary) came to him and said…. Let it Be. He said he instantly felt a calm come over him and it served as the inspiration for this song.
I have always felt that it was not a coincidence that he calls his mom, Mother Mary, and the wave of peace he felt, and her wisdom, and her message that is so essentially spiritual (Let It Be). The Divine Mother comes to us as our own mother, and lives in her, to teach us love. Things equal to the same thing are equal to themselves. She has no religion, but is known in the West as Mother Mary, Mediatrix of Mercy.
Paul's mother died of cancer when he was a teenager. More than ten years later when the Beatles were in turmoil and Paul felt stressed, his life spinning out of control, he had a dream where his mother appeared to him and told him "let it be."

Youre crying because it sounds like church music with pure intent of letting love be the answer. Paul's mother, Mary,, who he lost as a young boy, came to him in a dream, and that's the inspiration for this song.
When John was a teenager he was watching an Elvis movie and said "why couldn't God make me Elvis" and his girlfriend said "because he was waiting for you so he could make John Lennon".
A lot of Christian’s thought he was talking about the biblical Mary. Paul responded by saying it was about his own mother, named Mary, but he thinks that interpretation is beautiful. The gentle mother Mary who tells us “it’s going to be ok” is for everyone.
McCartney admits he was inspired to write Let It Be by the death of his mother, who died of cancer in 1956, when Paul was just 14 yrs old. Paul's mother was named Mary. McCartney said his mom appeared to him in his dreams in the 60s. In Paul's dream, his mom said to him, "It's gonna be ok. Just let it be...." Paul never shared this story early on, so eventually fans & the world immediately interpreted it as a spiritual, religious song. I told MY OWN MOM, Paul's actual meaning for writing Let It Be. Being a VERY religious woman, my mom STILL PREFERRED to consider Let It Be a song about The Virgin Mary and spirituality, like the many millions of other people/fans. Regardless of how others perceive it, it's STILL a classic, timeless, & meaningful song. Thank you for such a very emotional reaction!

I played this song 6 times in a row in the car the last time I saw my mother alive 14 years ago a few days after going into an old folks home. It really helped me before and after. Then at my brother's church funeral 4 years ago I was responsible for choosing the music. I had many choices, however I started it with Let It Be - For me it said everything and felt right. I grew up on the Beatles. Saw them live on Ed Sullivan in 1964 on TV. I played all their music 45's, Lp's and cassettes. They ruled the 1960's. Let it Be is an incredible emotional song. It fills my thoughts with Mother Mary being the mother of Christ and also The Holy Spirit. No need to say, "Sorry I cried." Because this is an incredibly emotional song due to it's lyrics and sounds. It a supernatural song of love filled emotions filling the heart.
I’m 73 and a big Beatles fan. I got to see the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl with my best friend. I too cry at let It Be. I took my granddaughter to her first concert it was Paul McCartney. On my left shoulder I have a tattoo that says Whisper Words Of Wisdom and on her right shoulder it says Let It Be. We stand together it says WHISPER WORDS OF WISDOM LET IT BE. I am so happy you love that song and feel emotional when you hear it 🥰
Part of the Beatles genius is how very simple their melodies can be, yet so astoundingly beautiful they move us. Around this time a movie Let It Be was released in theaters. A friend and I went to see it, it’s great if you’re a fan; we were 16. About halfway through she said “My god -they’re old men!” -The oldest Beatle at that time was … 29 🤣
One of my earliest musical memories is hearing "Let it Be" playing over the radio in the Dairy Queen my parents took us to for ice cream after church one Sunday morning circa 1970. The dichotomy shown in Across the Universe with this song was extremely powerful. I grew up in Detroit and heard many stories about the ‘67 riots. This beautifully illustrated the repercussions of the draft and the riots.
I've seen more people cry reacting to this song... Myself, I had heard Let It Be, but I didn't hear most of the songs on the album until I got my own copy in 1984. And with it only having been a few years since John's assassination, I used to get a little teary listening to Across The Universe
I was a huge Beatles fan in the early 70's. But The Sex Pistols and Punk happened, and I forgot about The Beatles. However, watching all these reaction videos are reminding me of their magic. Thanks for old memories reignited.
Never ever apologize for being emotionally moved by a powerful song that touches your soul! Many many many people over the decades have gotten through hard times with help from Beatles music. The energy is real, embrace it! 🎶🎸💕
During some tough times with business and interpersonal strife, Paul dreamed about his mother, Mary McCartney, who died when he was a teenager. She told him to not worry, and to just let it be. He woke up and started working on this masterpiece. Similarly, years earlier, he woke up one morning with the melody to "Yesterday" in his head, fully formed.
@@shockwavereact Yes, Paul's mother's name was MARY Patricia (Mohin - her maiden name) McCartney. She died from breast cancer when Paul was 14 years old, so she never lived to see her oldest son, start being in a band at 15 years old, and then ultimately become a member of the most world famous and influential rock band in history. When the Beatles were on the verge of breaking up, Paul was becoming worried and at times despondent over the future of the band as well as HIS future if the band broke up. He had a dream one night that his mother (Mary) came to him, and said "son, just let it be, things will be alright." That was the inspiration for the song. Paul was aware that some people might think he was referring to the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, and he had said, that was alright too, if they interrupted it that way. But it was really his own mother who spoke those words to Paul in a dream. Either way, it is still a song of hope and comfort for many people. I still shed tears when I hear it and I have heard it probably a thousand times since it came out back in May 1970 until this very day, watching your reaction. DON'T APOLOGIZE for becoming emotional over a song that is so beautiful and means something to you. It is nothing to be ashamed of. Music SHOULD move us emotionally, whether to feel happy, encouraged, sad, to provide comfort, or just to feel joy.
My dear lady, you had tears because you’re a sensitive person, and you were listening to a very meaningful and wonderful song. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and, speaking for myself, sharing tears with you. Again, thank you!
I am 67 years old and have been a Beatle fan my entire life. I have heard this son hundred’s of times. It wasn’t until a few years ago when I was going to have surgery and this song came on the radio and it hit me hard. It was like I was hearing it for the first time. And my mother’s name is Mary.
BTW there's a musical/comedy film called "Yesterday" (2019). Its about a modern musician who has an accident with a Bus. He recovers into a world that has never heard of The Beatles. Yet he himself retains all his knowledge of The Beatles and their songs. So whenever he plays their songs everyone thinks he wrote the songs since they never heard any Beatles songs before. In this world, John Lennon (and presumably the rest of The Beatles) do exist. However Lennon never formed The Beatles and instead lives a quiet life with his family.
"Mother Mary" literally is Paul's mother, Mary, who died when he was 14. She went into the hospital, and no one ever told Paul and his brother Mike that she was going to die. Later, when John's mother died when he was 17, they bonded over those loses. Paul has spoken of his mother coming to him in dreams and talking to him, and he says he has had dreams where John Lennon has come to him, which I love. I'm crying, too. I've heard it 1000 times, including 3 times performed live, but I'm crying like it's the first time. It's cool that you compare it to gospel. This song, like Bridge Over Troubled Water, is often talked of as being a 'secular hymn'.
Don't worry about crying; Paul cried, too. He was singing about a dream he had of his mother, whose name was Mary.

I've been listening to this song for 50 years and it still brings tears to my eyes too! Look up the story to that song! Paul had a dream about it !
It’s such a beautiful and emotional song
This song has always filled me with love and generosity for all life.
It's just that beautiful ❤
Paul McCartney once said, "That's the power of music,
it is eternal."
I'm 56 years old, and I still cry whenever I hear:
"Let It Be."
Ty, Sir McCartney ❤
🤘
He is so right, the song still makes me whenever I hear it
They have the same effect on me too. Their music has touched my soul.
Just wow… still feel same way each time I listen to the song
I've heard this song 100s of times and it still hits me in the feels.
That’s so true, it always feels like the first time each time I listen to it again
That’s Paul’s first wife Linda taking pictures 👍🏻😁🏴
That was Linda, Heather was his second wife. Linda was noted as the first woman to land a photo "on the cover of the Rolling Stone"...to quote Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show!

@@youngthing12 Cheers!👍🏼
Let It Be is an eternal song ... Thanks for your emotional reaction....
Thank you for watching, I really love this song
The dichotomy shown in Across the Universe with this song was extremely powerful. I grew up in Detroit and heard many stories about the ‘67 riots. This beautifully illustrated the repercussions of the draft and the riots.
One of the reasons that by broad consensus, they were the greatest band in the history of pop and rock music.
Absolutely agree 💯
Masters at work. 🥲
I've seen more people cry reacting to this song...
Myself, I had heard Let It Be, but I didn't hear most of the songs on the album until I got my own copy in 1984. And with it only having been a few years since John's assassination, I used to get a little teary listening to Across The Universe
My favorite song by Paul and the Beatles
Same here 💯😊
This song brings tears to my eyes every time i hear it. My all time favorite.
I heard this song 50 billion times and you as well as the song got my eyes all welled up.
Mother Mary was his mother who talked to him in a dream.
Okay, thanks for the info. Appreciate it 🙏
@@shockwavereact Yes, Paul's mother's name was MARY Patricia (Mohin - her maiden name) McCartney.
She was also the mother of jesus.
I'm 69 this is my FAVORITE beatles song.
It’s such a beautiful song ☺️
Listen to the long and winding road

Its OK to cry. sometimes a song can hit you on a deep level when you dont expect it. It helps that its one of the greatest songs of all time.
My favorite Beatles song, I love this. I turn up the volume anytime this song comes on. It is truly so very beautiful.

Been a Beatles fan for 50 years, born the year they broke up, and I still cry when I hear this.
A perfectly honest reaction to this Great Song and Band.
Best record
My fav Beatles song.
I am 67 years old and have been a Beatle fan my entire life. I have heard this son hundred’s of times. It wasn’t until a few years ago when I was going to have surgery and this song came on the radio and it hit me hard. It was like I was hearing it for the first time. And my mother’s name is Mary.
Let It Be is my favorite song ever.
It is absolutely beautiful
Yes it is @@shockwavereact
Your emotions are a testament that you’ve opened your soul to music. It’s a really beautiful feeling 🥰
Wow, thank you, I love good music, and this is definitely a great one
Amazing video thank you. Thanks for sharing your love filled emotions of your heart.
Thank you so much for the kind words
