- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth reviewed by Michael Higham on PlayStation 5.
"Final Fantasy VII Rebirth impressively builds off of what Remake set in motion as both a best-in-class action-RPG full of exciting challenge and depth, and as an awe-inspiring recreation of a world that has meant so much to so many for so long. After 82 hours to finish the main story and complete a decent chunk of sidequests and optional activities, there's still much to be done, making this pivotal section of the original feel absolutely massive. Minigames, sidequests, and other enticing diversions fill the spaces of its vast and sprawling regions, painting a new and more vivid picture of these familiar locations. But more than just being filled with things to do, Rebirth is often a powerful representation of Final Fantasy VII's most memorable qualities. It does fumble the execution of its ending, getting caught up in the mess of its multiple twisting timelines, but new moments and the overarching journey manage to evoke a deeper sense of reflection in spite of that. So, for as flawed as parts of how this classic has been reimagined might be, Rebirth still stands out as something both thrilling and unexpectedly impactful."

That's nothing. I'm going to spend well over 100 hours getting the platinum for Rebirth and mastering all of the mini games in the Gold Saucer.
80 hours isn't even that much.
He said he didn’t finish all the side content so 80 hours is just fine.
Not to mention I’m sure he played it on normal. If you want a challenge play it on dynamic difficulty.

Just another Horizon zero dawn/forbidden west, tlou2, or forspoken with Square enix hard at work bribing reviewers and bot farms to try to artificially change the narrative on how bad these games are.

Had a strong feeling the multiple timeline story direction would continue to be a mess. Hopefully it's somewhat cleaned/ cleared up for Part 3 😅

@@piepo5002 it involves a certain character not dying. Back in the day there were a lot of rumours that you could use a cheat code or do specific actions to prevent this character from dying. Loads of games had these wee rumours going about as we didn't have the internet then. We did have it, but it was very basic and not as informative as today.

Without spoilers the ending is still pretty much the same, just a lot more confusing and they don’t let the emotion of what happened hit the way it did in the first game

Finished the game just now. What a game. Took me around 80 hrs. Have never seen a game with such high quality production (been this long)
Those who complain about the graphic have not play this game. Thid is hand down top 3 most graphical game on ps5. Whoever finished the game can tell u.

I'm hoping we get dedicated side missions for each character that rewards the player with a particular double tech materias etc. It would serve the game well be a be a breath of fresh air if they were each well written and unique a la mass effect.
Gonna finally get a pS5 for this. It’s beautiful to see the journey of such an impactful experience get reimagined.

Got 2 questions for this game
1. Is this game support save import from previous game (like mass effect trilogy/witcher trilogy/trials of cold steel series) maybe we can get special items, boosts or etc
2. What kind of exploration in this game will be, a fully open world like skyrim or large area like metro exodus
1. You will get a couple of summon materias for completion of FF7 remake and intermission.
2. It will be semi open world, more like metro. Areas that open up more as you explore/continue throughout the story.

Totally agree about the ending. The entire story and plot development is very well explained up until the ending chapters where it is so implicative in a way that basically just verbally spams a jargon and lexicon of “destiny intertwined with fate”. The annoying part is that there IS reasoning for this, the game just takes a turn in its final moments of not explaining that in a down to earth way.
Why 9 tho it deserves a 10

I'm taking a hard guess here. FF7 Rebirth did NOT End the whole series. But ended in a Cliffhanger. That's why the narrator
kept saying "Convoluted and messy execution of the story". Didn't square mention that this will be a 3 game series?

got a ps5 just for this. agree with most of what you said, but you are 100% right with how they messed up the ending because of how needlessly convoluted it was. instead of having an extremely emotional impact, it instead it leaves the player thinking "huh? wtf just happened?" while fighting the final boss.
it doesnt though because it's so plainly obvious to understand that cloud is just seeing Aeris.... how you can't tell that is beyond me.

@@MrKnaivesit’s a sequel in the sense that the sephiroth we see in the game is from a past timeline where all the events of the original final fantasy 7 up until advent children took place, where sephiroth went back in time to change events.
Yes from now on everyone has to say total reimagination, revision is just completely misleading, only one of them is correct

It was actually Kitase who wanted more drastic story changes and Nomura who said to stay as close as possible to the original.. and Nomura isnt the story writer as well...

Nomura is the director and those ideas of multiple timelines, villain that are anti-hero and positive ending are taken form Kingdom Hearts which is it's own creation. He imposed his ideas on Nojima (oke of the worse screenwriter in the industry) the storyline who has never been the smartest in the room.

If you want to play mini games with a final fantasy 7 theme, this is the game for you 😒 oh, and there's a bit of story content too.
Unfortunately the convoluted parts, instead of being edited, were expanded on. Not going to lie, most games from Japan go that rout.
Please put icon/symbols on Materia next installment so you can identify any materia at a glance when in the menu. Eg, lightning symbol on lightning materia.

As an FF7 fan I’m happy you gave it a 9 but that was a shitload of problems you had with it. You guys had essentially 0 problems with Persona 3 Reload and that still got a 9 as well
Easily 2024's GOTY
Infinite Wealth does everything it does but better and doesn’t even have the benefit of being a remake of a classic. Better character bonding, better side quest, better minigames, no forced minigames, no lame open world with towers everywhere.
