I love this foundation. I have very dry, dehydrated mature skin and live in the subtropics where it is currently summer with some very warm humid days. While I haven’t worn it during a workout, it does perform well on those extra hot, humid and sweaty days - I can pat my face dry with a tissue without lifting the foundation. It performs well under a mask - there is some slight transfer around the bridge of the nose when I’ve had to wear a mask for more than an hour. This is the foundation I wear when I want something light, skin like, non-fussy and dependable. I don’t tend to wear makeup past 14 hours in a day, but this foundation looks as good at the end of the day as when I first applied it. A lot of the popular foundations don’t work with my skin, but this one does.
The Doublewear Light was the perfect foundation for me - it lasted all day at work without having to touchup, felt and looked great, and didn't make me look sweaty (I live in humid Queensland, so luminous foundations just make me look sweaty!). I first tried it on your recommendation and was very happy with it. I was gutted when I went to replace it and discovered it was discontinued. Why do they do that!! I tried the Doublewear Sheer and didn't like it. Ended up getting a foundation from Elizabeth Arden instead. If Estee Lauder is listening... bring back Doublewear Light. Please. 🙏
The Doublewear Light is/was my favorite. I receive so many compliments when I wear it. I was devastated to hear it was being discontinued. I bought 2 backups immediately. I will be sad when I go through my backups.
My Estée Lauder salesperson says the Light was discontinued as most people thought it was too heavy, and there were so many other foundations you could use if you needed more coverage. I'm one of those! This new one is much nicer IMHO.

Well, I want to try this one AND the Light (discontinued) version. Admittedly, your skin looks like you have a filter on - which I know you haven't, of course. But 8 to 10 hours wear really isn't going to be long enough for some people, ie : night shift workers, an all day wedding or similar event. I'm new to the whole Estee Lauder DW foundation and have only just bought my first bottle at age of 52. I found it a bit heavy so I dilute it by adding it into my moisturiser and really like the look. I had never tried the DW light but maybe that trick will work for you? It's so annoying when companies discontinue products especially products that people really love!
I was gutted when they discontinued the Doublewear Light. I bought the Sheer "replacement" and absolutely HATED IT. Thought that maybe I just needed a primer, so I ordered that from them and tried that too. Absolutely horrible. I started using my Dior Back stage foundation and now I use it everyday. Still doesn't look as nice as the Doublewear Light though.
I’ve got this foundation & live in Australia where it gets very humid & it’s Sumer here now. This foundation wore beautifully through humidity & warmer days. If you do get any perspiration just dab it with a tissue or blotting paper & it looks good again.
I added it to my list💕. I have slightly dry skin while you are oily in areas. I love skin, not coverage. Skin like doesn’t seem to have the same pitfalls such as creasing and full coverage is smothering, requires extra steps, & lackluster (monochrome?) on me. I don’t like powder but will use setting spray if I have to. Excellent review because while it isn’t your favorite, you pointed out things I do like. You’re the best!💕
I just saw online that the one you love is being relaunched as double wear soft matte hydra. Should be out by summer. Not sure if it's going to be exact but it did say relaunch not replaced.
I agree with your findings. DW light used to be my holy grail but I gave it up because I didn’t have a great shade match. It lasted forever. The new sheer, when first applied, was absolutely stunning and skin like on me but it just didn’t hold up at all throughout the day. I was shocked because I’ve never tried an estee lauder foundation that didn’t have good lasting power. I’m just not going to pay a high end price for a foundation that’s not long wearing.
Double wear light is my ultimate foundation, so I'm really upset it's discontinued. Instead of jumping into the deep end with double wear sheer I asked for a sample to try, I'm hoping it'll will work with me x
I felt the same way when they discontinued. That favorite foundation. And I was angry when I had to try this. But after a week of perfecting the way to put it on. I have no complaints. And I have gotten many more compliments. And I did with the other one even though I did get a lot with that One as well
Gemma have you tried mixing the normal double wear with the new 1 to see if it will give the double wear light effect you like more ? Experiment maybe ??? 🤔
I am trying out Too Faced Born this Way Matte foundation and so far it's the best I've felt in it since switching from DW light but its very hard to switch to something new. Also Urban Decay Stay Naked weightless foundation is good too but more light and also matte bit more matte cuz it has alcohol high on the ingredients list so I kinda don't like that cuz it's drying on the skin. But i suggest you try Too Faced Born this Way Matte foundation but color match yourself instore at Ulta IDK if you have that store in UK tho because shade isn't easy to pick online at least for me and wait for it to dry for 5-7min when color matching on your jawline.
I loved it also! DW stay was always for special days and DW Light for everyday and I have found "dupe" in my opinion! Try Mizon snail repair BB. I know it sounds strange but on my face looks the same like DW Light. This is amazing foundation (this is more foundation than BB!) is long lasting, smoothing and little more moisturizing than Estee what I love when I use retinol. Color 27 is little deeper than Dawn and less peachy , for all lighter than 2w1 -23 will be perfect. give a chance maybe it will be also great for you. Mizon 27 is something between Light Beige and Dawn. Great for combination/normal skin
You can buy the original double wear foundation. add 2 drops of the advanced night repair serum with the double wear on to the back of your hand an apply with a brush It will give you the same look and feel as the double wear light it looks very natural on the skin, and does everything the double wear does
Double Wear Light was my holy grail foundation as well and I’m gutted it’s been discontinued. I will probably try the new one even though it’s completely different as it looks beautiful on your skin Gemma, however I have combination skin so maybe a less hydrating spf with it. One gripe with EL is they never did the full colour range other than in the original EL Double Wear, I’m shade 2N2 Buff.🥰💜
I have two shades of this and love it. One is darker that I can use on my hands to blend the lack of pigment from vitiligo to my arms. It doesn't look like I have makeup on my hands at all. I'm 60 and don't want heavy foundation, but do want coverage and this stuff is aces, and It's buildable.
Even where you said the foundation broke down, your skin still looked beautiful. It’s such a radiant, glowy look-absolutely gorgeous. I’m glad that it’s a brand I won’t use and a formula I can’t use. Otherwise, I’d be tempted to break my won’t buy plan for this year.
Hi Gemma, I asked for this foundation as a Christmas gift, however I received the original Double Wear. I was going to exchange my one for the Sheer but have now decided to keep it just in case I do need a full coverage foundation in future. I cried when I went to get a new bottle of DW light and found it discontinued. I’ve yet to find anything that comes close to it. I just picked up IT cosmetics YSBB foundation with the hopes it might be close. If DW sheer doesn’t have longevity or transfer resistance it’s not worth it to me.
The coverage looked good - with and without primer & c. However Estee L keeps looking slightly yellow to me. About 10 years ago the "yellow thing" seemed to happen. Other brands haven't had the same effect. Really good. Thanks.
I'm gutted they've discontinued it. I can't see this new one meeting my needs. Estee Lauder was my favourite makeup brand but they keep discontinuing all my favourite products.
I wore the ordinary double wear for a number of years but stopped because I found it too heavy. Recently I tried it again and it feels a lot lighter, especially with a good moisturiser under it. It doesn't feel as though it has silicone in it and a thin layer covers nicely without looking thick or caking. I prefer to use it without primer for a more natural look.
I had thought this was meant to be a replacement for the discontinued Nude Water Fresh. I didn't care for the Light but loved the Water Fresh. Unfortunately, it is not a replacement for it either.
This was YOUR holy grail too?! Crazy because I have such oily ass skin and I loved this so much, other than the shade range. I wish they’d bring back the original formula Edit: I see now you mean hydra version. The one I miss was the old old original back like in at least early 2000’s lol
I am so glad they got this back. It was called the water foundation or something like that from estee.. it was love but they discontinued only to bring it back after almost a decade with a different name.
Well for anyone still looking for a replacement try this Mix original double wear foundation with a drop of serum. (Even oil like argan oil if you have very dry skin , but serum works better for me) It’s suggested by EL beauty advisor to use EL advanced night repair serum but I prefer Lancôme serum. I use the Lancôme ADVANCED GÉNIFIQUE FACE SERUM and I add one drop to a pump of Estee lauder double wear or a drop to one and half pump. That’s my perfect amount and also apply with beauty sponge real techniques. I don’t like the EL serum because I feel it’s irritating and has a comedogenic ingredient Oleth-3 comedogenic rating Of 5. That’s just my preference, pick the serum you like that’s similar consistency. I used to hate the original DW foundation cuz it was so drying in me. Now I love how it looks and it lasts the same power with the serum added (Lancôme or EL serum work perfect)

I loved this foundation. However, after wearing for a few days I started to experience breakouts and had to return it. I was very disappointed because it was really lovely.
Probably cuz of the chemical SPF in there. Companies over do it with the chemical SPF in makeup now, it’s not good for your skin , physical SPF is but in makeup it’s pretty pointless cuz the moment you use it for an event you can be up with flashback or very possible you do if the room is dark and flash is used.

I received the DW sheer in the post as a sample but just don’t get on with it - I have fairly oily skin but it made my skin dry and patchy which was strange. I can’t wait to hear if you find something else that would be a great duplicate for it.

I tried the original Double wear years ago but found it too heavy. Tbh never really looked anymore at foundation from EL. I'd recently seen there was this "sheer" version and decided to try it. (Never knew about the "light" one). I really am loving this sheer one! I'm planning on picking up 2 or 3 and it's on my list.
I’ve started using Estée Lauder hydra futurist foundation which gives a more radiant finish. I found as get older the double wear light started to crease in my skin but agree on the longevity for a wedding. The futurist is really nice for everyday wear and leaves a nice finish on my skin but find I need a setting spray for staying power. Thanks for the review on the new replacement, v helpful as always
I'm just finding out that the light was discontinued as it's tIme for me to replenish. I never had to order my 2 colors but about twice a year. A summer & winter. I could even mix the two in between seasons. This makeup always went a long way for me & was the best ever! I'm so disappointed my favorite foundation doesn't exist anymore. @EsteeLauder, WHY? 😢 It took me years to find the right makeup for me & the light was it. I was faithful to it for years. This sucks!!!
I think the DW light was beautiful for my combination skin. I just purchased the sheer before watching this. I’m a little disappointed that it’s shiny. I’m excited to try it though.

Estee Lauder also discontinued the Double Wear Nude foundation. They discontinued the Custom Coverage Correcting Duos. My two holy grail products. I am beyond frustrated with Estee Lauder and have switched to Tarte.
They actually changed the formula of DW Light a few years ago and it was never the same for me. Before that it was my go to foundation. The No.7 one you reviewed that your mum loves is very close to it actually and I was very happy with the foundation itself but not the shades available. There were no yellow based tones that suit me and the one I ended up with made my skin kind of grey lol x

Used the sheer for a while (I also previously loved DWL), but it’s so watery and not worth the price. I ended up switching to Maybelline Dream Radiant and to me, the results were better and cost £10 instead of £30+

I’ve never been able to get Estée Lauder foundation to work for me. No matter what I do. This one was no different. It dries me out like the others. And it didn’t give me any skin evening. Don’t know why this brand doesn’t work for me, but that’s how it is with skin.
They should have released the Sheer as an additional foundation to the DW family. This foundation doesn't work and I don't like it. It's like water and doesn't cover nor last and also I don't wear chemical SPF either so I don't understand how DW just constantly discontinues products. I have gone away from the company because of this and I won't be repurchasing more things from them until if they release another Light replacement for the Hydra makeup with no SPF. The sheer foundation doesn't serve the same purpose as the light version did and it markets to a different group of people who like that sheer version. It doesn't make the people who loved the buildable medium coverage from the light foundation. I need it for work, it would last me 14+ hours felt light looked gorgeous for daily use and I used it for events and when traveling to see my boyfriend in the army and it never rubbed off from my face with hugging or mask wearing. EL I hope realizes they made a mistake and re release the DW light.
They done that to the Body shop bb cream as well a couple of years ago. Changed a perfect formula snd it’s not the same now. Why do companies do that. If it’s not broke don’t fix it. I was interested in buying the double wear light. It will be interesting to see if it’s just as good.
Okay so I like in an extremely hot climate, I also have combination skin, I always used to use double wear but I struggled with it near the end of my 30s,now in my 40s I am using physicians formula and it's stunning!!!! But not available in my country anymore 😑I am desperate for a new foundation similar to the physicians formula Healthy foundation 🥺any suggestions.??? We also don't get Charlotte Tilbery in our country. So it's almost need to be a main stream easily found foundation.

This has 5 star for me! It is the best bi fire foundation. I can fall asleep with it. Wake up in the morning and my skin still looks great!

I've been looking for years since the original dwl light was discontinued. Id probably say armani silk comes closest.
The coverage looked good - with and without primer & c. However Estee L keeps looking slightly yellow to me. About 10 years ago the "yellow thing" seemed to happen. Other brands haven't had the same effect. Really good. Thanks.

I'm gutted they've discontinued it. I can't see this new one meeting my needs. Estee Lauder was my favourite makeup brand but they keep discontinuing all my favourite products.
I wore the ordinary double wear for a number of years but stopped because I found it too heavy. Recently I tried it again and it feels a lot lighter, especially with a good moisturiser under it. It doesn't feel as though it has silicone in it and a thin layer covers nicely without looking thick or caking. I prefer to use it without primer for a more natural look.
I can totally notice the brighter lighting in this video, your makeup looks beautiful here by the way.
I had thought this was meant to be a replacement for the discontinued Nude Water Fresh. I didn't care for the Light but loved the Water Fresh. Unfortunately, it is not a replacement for it either.
I'm sorry these companies keep reformulateing great makeup.

I am so glad they got this back. It was called the water foundation or something like that from estee.. it was love but they discontinued only to bring it back after almost a decade with a different name.

Well for anyone still looking for a replacement try this
Mix original double wear foundation with a drop of serum. (Even oil like argan oil if you have very dry skin , but serum works better for me)
It’s suggested by EL beauty advisor to use EL advanced night repair serum but I prefer Lancôme serum.
I use the Lancôme ADVANCED GÉNIFIQUE FACE SERUM and I add one drop to a pump of Estee lauder double wear or a drop to one and half pump. That’s my perfect amount and also apply with beauty sponge real techniques. I don’t like the EL serum because I feel it’s irritating and has a comedogenic ingredient Oleth-3 comedogenic rating Of 5. That’s just my preference, pick the serum you like that’s similar consistency. I used to hate the original DW foundation cuz it was so drying in me. Now I love how it looks and it lasts the same power with the serum added (Lancôme or EL serum work perfect)

I loved this foundation. However, after wearing for a few days I started to experience breakouts and had to return it. I was very disappointed because it was really lovely.
Probably cuz of the chemical SPF in there. Companies over do it with the chemical SPF in makeup now, it’s not good for your skin , physical SPF is but in makeup it’s pretty pointless cuz the moment you use it for an event you can be up with flashback or very possible you do if the room is dark and flash is used.

Thank you for doing this review (I love your reviews!). DWL was my absolute favourite and I’m so disappointed they have discontinued it. I received the DW sheer in the post as a sample but just don’t get on with it - I have fairly oily skin but it made my skin dry and patchy which was strange. I can’t wait to hear if you find something else that would be a great duplicate for it.

I tried the original Double wear years ago but found it too heavy. Tbh never really looked anymore at foundation from EL. I'd recently seen there was this "sheer" version and decided to try it. (Never knew about the "light" one). I really am loving this sheer one! I'm planning on picking up 2 or 3 and it's on my list.
I’ve started using Estée Lauder hydra futurist foundation which gives a more radiant finish. I found as get older the double wear light started to crease in my skin but agree on the longevity for a wedding. The futurist is really nice for everyday wear and leaves a nice finish on my skin but find I need a setting spray for staying power. Thanks for the review on the new replacement, v helpful as always
I'm just finding out that the light was discontinued as it's tIme for me to replenish. I never had to order my 2 colors but about twice a year. A summer & winter. I could even mix the two in between seasons. This makeup always went a long way for me & was the best ever! I'm so disappointed my favorite foundation doesn't exist anymore. @EsteeLauder, WHY? 😢 It took me years to find the right makeup for me & the light was it. I was faithful to it for years. This sucks!!!

Estee Lauder also discontinued the Double Wear Nude foundation. They discontinued the Custom Coverage Correcting Duos. My two holy grail products. I am beyond frustrated with Estee Lauder and have switched to Tarte.
They actually changed the formula of DW Light a few years ago and it was never the same for me. Before that it was my go to foundation. The No.7 one you reviewed that your mum loves is very close to it actually and I was very happy with the foundation itself but not the shades available. There were no yellow based tones that suit me and the one I ended up with made my skin kind of grey lol x

Used the sheer for a while (I also previously loved DWL), but it’s so watery and not worth the price. I ended up switching to Maybelline Dream Radiant and to me, the results were better and cost £10 instead of £30+

I’ve never been able to get Estée Lauder foundation to work for me. No matter what I do. This one was no different. It dries me out like the others. And it didn’t give me any skin evening. Don’t know why this brand doesn’t work for me, but that’s how it is with skin.
They should have released the Sheer as an additional foundation to the DW family. This foundation doesn't work and I don't like it. It's like water and doesn't cover nor last and also I don't wear chemical SPF either so I don't understand how DW just constantly discontinues products. I have gone away from the company because of this and I won't be repurchasing more things from them until if they release another Light replacement for the Hydra makeup with no SPF. The sheer foundation doesn't serve the same purpose as the light version did and it markets to a different group of people who like that sheer version. It doesn't make the people who loved the buildable medium coverage from the light foundation. I need it for work, it would last me 14+ hours felt light looked gorgeous for daily use and I used it for events and when traveling to see my boyfriend in the army and it never rubbed off from my face with hugging or mask wearing. EL I hope realizes they made a mistake and re release the DW light.

They done that to the Body shop bb cream as well a couple of years ago. Changed a perfect formula snd it’s not the same now. Why do companies do that. If it’s not broke don’t fix it. I was interested in buying the double wear light. It will be interesting to see if it’s just as good.

Okay so I like in an extremely hot climate, I also have combination skin, I always used to use double wear but I struggled with it near the end of my 30s,now in my 40s I am using physicians formula and it's stunning!!!! But not available in my country anymore 😑I am desperate for a new foundation similar to the physicians formula Healthy foundation 🥺any suggestions.??? We also don't get Charlotte Tilbery in our country. So it's almost need to be a main stream easily found foundation.
