I believe the color you chose is actually cool and you’re definitely a warm skin tone olive warm so you need to double check your color. It’s a cool color and you need a warm color. Fingers is absolutely the best way to apply for the smoothest application and it’s just stunning. I do have drawers and drawers of brushes and probably 10 brand new beauty blenders right now, but I utilize those you know in areas of Patch or if I just wanna just really smooth something out, I’m a fingers person for my face blush eyeshadow. I hate using fingers.
Thanks for all the foundation info, we love to know what everyone else is using, where they are, and how it's working! And yeah, I totally agree this is not the right color, I bought it in Covid times when there was no testing allowed! When I repurchase I'm definitely getting a different shade and will check on what you're recommending, as this one is not quite right for sure...it's the right deepness but not the right tone, you nailed it.
@@HelenAveryI have an update for you. After watching your video, I decided to go back to applying my EL Double Wear with my fingers. Wow! What a major difference. I truly believe this is the key to making the Double Wear absolutely flawless. Thanks for bringing it back old school and helping me to fall in love with my favorite foundation all over again. Thank you!
I always apply it with a damp sponge. My way is to dispense some of it on the back of my hand and spread it around which sheers it out and warms it up. Then I bounce the sponge on my hand and apply to the face. This makes the layers sheer and very even. You have to work quickly but that’s not an issue in my experience. I don’t need full coverage so I often mix it with a moisturizer or with an spf. Just make sure that the primary ingredients are similar in both products.
Thanks for sharing!! One thing I'm noticing over and over again is people attesting to the fact you don't need that much. Which is helpful because you can use a little to go a long way. Thanks for leaving a detailed comment, we appreciate it!
@@HelenAvery No you don't need much at all since it's so pigmented. Of course, we all need different levels of coverage, but one thing I learned from watching makeup artists who are good at creating a flawless and natural looking base, is that they like to go in with very sheer layers that they gradually build up as needed, and they'd rather use concealer in a particular area than putting on extra foundation there.
Hope you like it! You may need something lighter as a base depending on how humid, but will you circle back and let us know? We'd love to see how you get on!
Estee sells a pump for these now. I think this is a nice foundation, but I find my Loreal is just as good for just $10 bucks a bottle. Thank you for that moisturizer tip!!! And I often apply with just my fingers!
Thanks for sharing!! I too mostly reach for my cheaper Revlon Colorstay, thank goodness for drugstore options so we don't all go bankrupt. My pleasure on the moisturizer, I hope it works nice for you if you try it!
I had unimpressive results with L’Oreal -Accord Parfait- and new True Match. But I used them up and then ran back to my Dior Forever! The trick with a matte foundation is to add a tiny drop of organic rose hip or argan oil. According to Wayne Goss, and the result is: WOW!
I heard that the Loreal Infallible is a dupe for the double wear, but it has alcohol and fragrance therefore im not trying it and sticking to the estee lauder.
I've been using double wear since it was released in the 90s. I thought id try other foundations now that im older but nothing beats it. I just had to start using a better moisturiser and apply a little less and yes i still use my fingers. I started using a beauty blender but fingers do a better job. I also sometimes wear a good pore bluring primer underneath and it looks so natural. I often visit Bali where the humidity is extremely high and most visitors don't bother with make up because it slides off in an hour but mine lasts all day and night 😊
The Estée Lauder pump sold separately for £5 last for ages and for me it works better this way as you use every little bit. I am porcelain so very fair and have rosacea and dry skin and have used his for many many years. Now that the dewy look is the thing I use Curel intensive moisture cream underneath, wait for a few minutes and it goes on beautifully. Yes .. fingers are the way with this one for sure and you don't have time to faff about as it dries quickly but because of rosacea I have pretty much tried most foundations, long wear, bb cream etc and always go back to this. Now that I have the Curel cream and EL combo I have stopped trying different foundations. My skin is also much better using mostly dermatologists, Dr Sam Bunting,s skin care.
Just found your channel and actually had used my Pebble EL this morning, with a brush... I've been using it for over 20 yrs but I will try the moisturizer and my fingers. I tend to powder everything as I have a heavy sunscreen underneath that never seems to set. I feel like it looks good, yet when I see your glow.... ty!
Works best with a dampened Beauty Blender sponge to apply. And apply sparingly. I'm careful to apply really sparingly on areas that are lined or have wrinkles. I love using the Smoother primer first.
Thank you for keeping it real😊 going back to basics and keeping it simple takes the stress out of trying makeup trends AND ITS JUST NOT WORKING. Thank you
I always exfoliate before using this foundation because it will cling to every dry patch. I totally agree with moisturizing too. Doublewear is FULL coverage and will last all night!
I adore doublewear, I dabble in other foundations, I also love the lighter, but great coverage Estee futurist, however I always return to double wear. I am almost 51, I have lines and dry patches yet I make this brilliant foundation work. I use a very rich moisturiser anyway but I add extra of my moisturiser, I also use elf's radiant primer and I use Clinique concealer to cover my very high cheek colouring. To keep the foundation light yet full coverage, I completely agree with Helen. I use my fingers and I build up thin layers only where I need it. I add more on my cheeks, nose, where the pads of my glasses settle on the side of the nose and the remainder is kept on the lighter side. I have to set my foundation so I use the incredible NYX HD loose finishing powder and it keeps the overall look light and radiant.
Thank you! I need a longwear foundation for an outside concert in August (California heat) and am 49 with "normal" skin. Really appreciate the tips because i need a sweat proof foundation for that day, for sure! Getting that moisturizer, too! ❤😘 All the best!
I've never had luck with the old Beauty Blender but that makes sense because the effect is bit more like using your fingers (compared to using a brush). Thanks for leaving a comment!
Ive used this foundation (in fresco) since it was brought out. I was a rep for a drugs company and so appearance mattered when i went to work. This foundation never let me down......ever. Now and again id be tempted to try other brands which never gave the same results. So ive stopped looking and stay with EL. Ive always used my fingers to apply it and you can now order a phmp from EL online.
Ah, same shade as I'm wearing in this video! It's true, this is a one of a kind formulation. Also yes about the pump, and I've noticed if you sign up for EL's newsletters they often have pretty good sales, sometimes even a free pump with purchase.
@@chicanica64 If you prefer a generic one off Amazon I think the key is to make sure you type in Estee Lauder Double Wear pump and a whole bunch will pop up, then check the description (and ratings and reviews) to be sure. However I'm no expert, I haven't bought a pump yet.
I dot my forehead, cheeks, nose and chin and then use my brush after using. moisturizer. I'm going to try it with my fingers tomorrow! I "only" pay $45 for mine but it works for me so I don't mind the expense.

I followed your tips this morning and love the way it looks so much better than how I was using it! I did spf, la roche posay, and then foundation with my hands! Game changer!!!!!
I like using a bare drop of my (deeply discounted) LaMer face oil and mix with the foundation. Turns it into a skin tint, I don’t mind losing the long-wear quality if I’m going out on quick errands.
That’s funny I put this foundation on this morning. I bought it half off from an Ulta sale. I was originally matched up by a makeup artist with 3C1 dusk because I look cool toned. The level is good but it’s pinkish in the sun. Horrible on me. I tried neutral shade that’s too peach. I settled on 2W2 rattan because they said it was olive but it looks orange on me. I need straight up muted green light medium and it doesn’t exist in Estée Lauder’s ranges. 😩 I can make it look presentable on my mature dryer skin by putting oil on my face first and before it drys completely I put the foundation on. With fingers. It goes on smooth and amazing. I tried mixing it with a drop of oil like some suggested but it doesn’t work out well. Not sure why. Thank you.
I wonder how many of us buy it on sale and it's not right, a huge number I bet! I had a similar experience. Plus, this foundation can oxidize strangely, which doesn't help! Like you, I do the oil beforehand trick and it works great like that! Thanks for leaving a comment, I'm sure you'll have better luck with something else, there's so much these days!
I’m a light medium olive and I need to mix shades, rattan and tawny, try adding a little bit of a green concealer and see if it helps, makes it less orange
Omgosh! You are spot on! Everything you said was EXACTLY how it was back in the day! Revlon colorstay. Eveything you said was how it was. I use ELDW and I love it. I recommend it to all brides. It is my go to for all events and photography.

@@nj_1970 nothing to lose by giving it a shot (other than one iffy makeup day, perhaps!) Personally I use it as I would a concealer, I just dab on to conceal with my ring finger, that seems to work for me (I have one age spot I’m always covering up)
In the classic application, you would cover your eyelids. No need for concealer or eye primer. In the nineties, the most popular lipstick in the world was Bamboo Pink by Clinique. It was so brown.
This is a great video and a wonderful trip down memory lane to the make up bag that was a bag not a suitcase 😂 I’ve never been able to get on board with brushes so recently reverted back to this foundation as it’s what I used in the 2000’s - works just how I want it too I think the things you were trying to remember the name of were cotton tips or ear buds
Right? We had so little, lol! I think I was reaching for the word "sponge applicator" but I had an almost- senior moment. Thanks for the fun comment, be well!!
I have never tried this trick but on the tips video of Estee Lauder, they recommended at one time to put a drop of Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum in the foundation. That was suppose to make it have more moisture, Has anyone tried that? I just moved on to EL Futurist but it seemed like a good idea. I did like Doublewear ....my mature skin just made it dry on me,
Gave mine to my daughter, its very much the same as many mid priced foundations.. It settled in any fine line it could find and looked like a mask.. Daughter hasn't used it either.
Hi! I suspect they ALL have SPF 10 but they are marketed differently in different countries. In the UK they use SPF 10 in their product descriptions but not in the Americas. Perhaps because that's too low to be considered adequate and is therefore not a marketing benefit to listing it, or for a regulatory reason. But my guess is they're all formulated the exact same way no matter the country. Does that help? I'm open to hearing other informed opinions too!
Mine is over 2 years old now too YIKES but it smells ok, it works ok, no skin breakouts etc and I'm not sharing it, so I'm going to keep going (it's almost empty).
Double wear actually has a 24 month expiration after opening, according to the box. Mine just hit the 2 year mark and is still the same as when I got it, so I'm trying to use up my half full bottle. I think it has really good preservatives. I have always used a pump with it, though, so I've never transferred bacteria from my hands into the bottle.
The cream is a great winter moisturizer, very thick! But with the foundation...I usually don't wear it because it looks too matte on my skin in the winter months. Hope that helps!
Yo esta base la llego a usar hasta en invierno cuando tengo la piel deshidratada solo que me hidrato bien la cara con los productos de la Roche que son excelentes y a la base le agregó un poco de aceite de argán o jojoba y me queda preciosa
@@Nipaminipati- yes, that's it, a little bit of Aloe vera gel or oil is the best to mix with... So use a small amount and your fingers, I like this foundation so much.
I have very dry skin and I make sure that I moisturize my skin. I apply this foundation with my fingers and a sponge. The people who find this foundation too heavy and cakie are using way too much. This foundation sets very fast so it’s best to apply a tiny amount to small sections of your face at a time. If you apply this foundation correctly, it looks invisible on your face. I am 60 years old and I use this foundation in the summer. I live in a hot and humid climate. This is the only foundation besides MAC Face and Body that withstands humidity.
Agreed and thanks for the reminder that it sets quickly, that's true! Small sections will help with that. Great tips and info, thank you for leaving a comment!
I am curious. Is there a way for this foundation to work? At last, someone called the elephant in the room. And i wear full coverage foundations, but never liked this one.
Do you put the La Roche Posay on after your spf? I love this foundation, but my skin is a little more dry (tretinoin) and I’m wanting it to look more skin like. So I’m trying to figure out how to make it work best.
@@HelenAvery which sunscreen do you like? I’ve been using the supergoop unseen sunscreen. I like that it acts like a primer, but I tried the moisturizer on after sunscreen and I think it helped the foundation spread better. I’ll keep playing, but I’m so thankful for your tips!!

I use a damp brush and use small amounts. You are so right about amount. It is a great foundation
A little really goes so far, you can stretch it out! Thanks for leaving a comment!
I love your take on this foundation and have to say you are spot on! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment! I have some others on this topic and others, hope you watch them and enjoy! :)
I finally brought this foundation as it is very humid in Australia. Thank you sharing tip to use Cicaplast Balm B5+ as a base
Hope you like it! You may need something lighter as a base depending on how humid, but will you circle back and let us know? We'd love to see how you get on!
Si a esa base le pones una gota de ácido hialurónico, te aguanta todavía aún más el maquillaje y te queda preciosa en la piel
LOL! I still love Revlon Colorstay too. It was a great video. Thanks again!
It's so perfect for very humid climates. We love to hear from an OG reviewer, so thank you for this detailed comment, I appreciate you!
I have makeup that I've kept for years, no issues with it at all. Also, great video!
Good to know! (I do too...very old, some of the powder stuff! Hee hee.) Thanks so much, I appreciate you!
And it does not oxidise and works better if you keep it cool or in the fridge.
I do love a pump! Thanks for leaving this in-depth comment, I hope it helps others!
Just found your channel and actually had used my Pebble EL this morning, with a brush... I've been using it for over 20 yrs but I will try the moisturizer and my fingers. I tend to powder everything as I have a heavy sunscreen underneath that never seems to set. I feel like it looks good, yet when I see your glow.... ty!
Thanks for the comment! Sounds like you've nailed your ELDW look but give this a try too, you might like it!
Works best with a dampened Beauty Blender sponge to apply. And apply sparingly. I'm careful to apply really sparingly on areas that are lined or have wrinkles. I love using the Smoother primer first.
Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you for keeping it real😊 going back to basics and keeping it simple takes the stress out of trying makeup trends AND ITS JUST NOT WORKING. Thank you
You are so welcome!
I always exfoliate before using this foundation because it will cling to every dry patch. I totally agree with moisturizing too. Doublewear is FULL coverage and will last all night!
Omigosh this is such an underrated tip, so true it will find even a slightly dry area! Thanks for leaving a comment!
Great tips and specific products here, thank you on behalf of all of us!
Thank you! I need a longwear foundation for an outside concert in August (California heat) and am 49 with "normal" skin. Really appreciate the tips because i need a sweat proof foundation for that day, for sure!
Getting that moisturizer, too! ❤😘
All the best!
Enjoy the concert! Maybe sunscreen underneath will be enough dewiness? Give it a test beforehand :)
This is my best foundation. Good to know I was using the right way. From Australia.
It's a good one, those who love it seem to love it forever!
I was about to throw my Estée Lauder foundation out. I saw this video and it worked!! Thank-you!!
You're so welcome! Sweet of you to let me know, it's made my day!
It works best when you blend with a damp sponge
I've never had luck with the old Beauty Blender but that makes sense because the effect is bit more like using your fingers (compared to using a brush). Thanks for leaving a comment!
I personally don't like the beauty blender I prefer softer sponges like the "StansOut makeup blending sponge"
@@luv2luv77 Oooh! Thanks for the tip! I’m really over the Beauty Blender, it’s not that great! Excited to try this one
Agreed. I use a damp Elf sponge and thin layers.
@@dragonfly656Same here. That ELF sponge is really good
Ive used this foundation (in fresco) since it was brought out.
@@HelenAvery yes, I've been lucky enough to benefit from some great offers on the EL site. All the best xx
Do you buy the pump by size? How do you choose one?
@@chicanica64 hi, the pump was sold as a pair for the Double Wear bottle on the EL website so thankfully there was no guess work for me.
A little goes a long way! I hope you try it & it works for you but if not, the cool thing is you can simply go back to your usual way, no harm done ;) Thanks for leaving a comment!
I followed your tips this morning and love the way it looks so much better than how I was using it! I did spf, la roche posay, and then foundation with my hands! Game changer!!!!!
Yay I love to hear that, I'm so glad! Something about the warmth of the fingers really helps to spread it out nicely. Thanks for the follow-up, Sarah!
Watched every video on dw application and tried them all...this is by far the best and only method that actually works...thankyou 👍
Yay I'm thrilled! I swear, this is one of the few 90s-era makeup application methods that can't be beat, at least for this foundation!
@@HelenAvery I'm 70 now so I've used makeup in every era lolx
@@jeanwilson1385 I love that! Jean, I feel like you’re the one who should be doling out advice, not me! ❤️
I like using a bare drop of my (deeply discounted) LaMer face oil and mix with the foundation. Turns it into a skin tint, I don’t mind losing the long-wear quality if I’m going out on quick errands.
Oooh that's a great hack!
I have warmed toned skin and I use the shade 2W1 - Dawn.
I’m a light medium olive and I need to mix shades, rattan and tawny, try adding a little bit of a green concealer and see if it helps, makes it less orange
What SPF do you like to use under this foundation?
Darphin Intral (or its dupe: Clinique Pep-Start, this is what it looks like go.shopmy.us/p-1547466)
there are pumps that sell separately for this foundation. It is an Estee Lauder pump.
Exactly, generic ones too via amazon. thanks for leaving a comment!
I tried your method, and it worked so well!
Great to hear! Thanks for letting me know!
I also find it helpful using wet beauty blender makes it melt
Tell us more about your technique! Do you apply to face with fingers and bounce, or put it directly on the sponge?
Your videos are so informative! Love the energy!
That's so nice of you! This comment made my day, I appreciate you!
Omgosh! You are spot on! Everything you said was EXACTLY how it was back in the day! Revlon colorstay. Eveything you said was how it was. I use ELDW and I love it. I recommend it to all brides. It is my go to for all events and photography.
Thanks for saying so, I appreciate you! Are you an MUA? I love these anecdotes!
I totally agreed 👍 I carried exactly what you mentioned in my purse 😉👍

Right?! Try it again with your fingers and maybe you’ll love it all over again…that’s what happened to me! Thanks for leaving a comment! ❤️
I am going to try with my fingers. Not sure since I live in very dry climate. What is the best way to go back in and cover age spots?
@@nj_1970 nothing to lose by giving it a shot (other than one iffy makeup day, perhaps!) Personally I use it as I would a concealer, I just dab on to conceal with my ring finger, that seems to work for me (I have one age spot I’m always covering up)
In the classic application, you would cover your eyelids. No need for concealer or eye primer. In the nineties, the most popular lipstick in the world was Bamboo Pink by Clinique. It was so brown.
Interesting historical facts here, I'm living for it!
This is a great video and a wonderful trip down memory lane to the make up bag that was a bag not a suitcase 😂 I’ve never been able to get on board with brushes so recently reverted back to this foundation as it’s what I used in the 2000’s - works just how I want it too
I think the things you were trying to remember the name of were cotton tips or ear buds
Right? We had so little, lol! I think I was reaching for the word "sponge applicator" but I had an almost- senior moment. Thanks for the fun comment, be well!!
Ha ha yes that makes so much more sense 😂
I have never tried this trick but on the tips video of Estee Lauder, they recommended at one time to put a drop of Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum in the foundation. That was suppose to make it have more moisture, Has anyone tried that? I just moved on to EL Futurist but it seemed like a good idea. I did like Doublewear ....my mature skin just made it dry on me,
If anyone's tried this, comment here...inquiring minds want to know!
I really appreciated your honesty!! Thank you
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching and leaving a kind comment!
Gave mine to my daughter, its very much the same as many mid priced foundations.. It settled in any fine line it could find and looked like a mask.. Daughter hasn't used it either.
Yeah my all time favorite is Revlon Colorstay Longwear for Normal/Dry skin...and it's about $14 a bottle
Could you tell me why is there a version of double wear that has spf10? I can’t find any info online with the reason why?
You can order a pump to use with bottle from Estee Lauder
You can! Expensive though. Sometimes they give them for free if you order direct for estee lauder
Mam can u plz tell i have been wearing the bottle for more than 2 years. Is it okay? Any idea if can be used more than 2 yrs the same bottle?
Mine is over 2 years old now too YIKES but it smells ok, it works ok, no skin breakouts etc and I'm not sharing it, so I'm going to keep going (it's almost empty).
Double wear actually has a 24 month expiration after opening, according to the box. Mine just hit the 2 year mark and is still the same as when I got it, so I'm trying to use up my half full bottle. I think it has really good preservatives. I have always used a pump with it, though, so I've never transferred bacteria from my hands into the bottle.
If it separates on the skin as you apply DW, then it’s not good anymore.
Thank you for this video. Does this cream and fundation works good in the winter too?
Just tried the Merit biphase serum with EL Double Wear....life changing after a 30 yr love hate relationship with the foundation lolol
Oh wow, I have that serum too I'm gonna try it! Thanks for letting us know!

I've forgotten how to put any makeup on...I'm wayyyyy over 60.....😬
@@dewuknowofHyMn use a light hand? That always helps when you’re getting back in the game!
Haha! I've always used this foundation, and have ALWAYS used my hands. Like you said, it warms up nice. ❤
It's been around for so long! Probably one of the longest still going. I know, fingers help it spread so nicely (and saves on foundation!).
I’m in the same shade. I was halving the same issue, I’ll have to try the la roche under it.
Yes, or any thick moisturizer that doesn't pill. Or, a teensy drop of facial oil might help, too! Good luck and let us know if or what works!
Embryolisse is even better than Cicaplast underneath, both similar. I've tried both.
I've always wanted to try it but this was my nudge to purchase it. Thanks for the tip!
I am curious. Is there a way for this foundation to work?
At last, someone called the elephant in the room.
And i wear full coverage foundations, but never liked this one.
I use my fingers, it doesn't look nice any other way. Thanks for your comment!
Do you put the La Roche Posay on after your spf? I love this foundation, but my skin is a little more dry (tretinoin) and I’m wanting it to look more skin like. So I’m trying to figure out how to make it work best.
Hi! Oooh yeah, I know how tret can really dry you out. I put the La Roche Posay on before SPF usually (because I use a mineral sunscreen).

They could reformulated to make with slip and not thick. I don't have time. Couple pumps apply with hands and go! I used it in the 90s until I found Laura Mercia
Yeah, this is so true: it does indeed take longer doing it this way esp. considering it's thick!
