      BTW the graphics is totally okay as a AAA game, but if we take in count that it was made for an outdated (its already 6 years old btw) handheld console... its straight up stunning. Emulating it on pc is beautiful (switch does 1080p 30fps docked, mods on pc allow higher fps).
      In terms of the world is "empty". It isn't, but less animals are spawning (compared to botw for example) due to optimization, and if you are running through a forest too fast for example, then the game have no time to load in the animals, and you might think that they are extinct...
      Also the shrines are great... but using any item/block as a moving plaform with ultrahand +recall kinda breaks 40% of the shrines(i finished them all, the rest are mostly blessing shrines, or fighting ones).

But I had a similar experience with twilight princess, and thought those graphics were amazing, even though I never played it until a few years after it released. I was 3 when it came out. I love the art style in BOTW and TOTK because I don’t think games need to look so real that it can be mistaken for reality. Games are a form of escape and not a whole new world.

      @HOFFERN342 Год назад

      TOTK is a clear 9/10 for me. What draws it down from the clear 10/10 is clumsy building mechanics (because it leans so hard into building stuff), frame rate issues due to poor hardware (graphics are good for what the hardware is.. but I imagine this fun engine and graphics on better hardware). Story, world, gameplay and so much more is hands down top tier, amazing.
      BUT it is also just sometimes so frustratingly difficult… heck, even Dark Souls is easier sometimes. I would never hand this to a kid after I saw my friends kid just spend all his time just trying to get out of the starting areas and never gotten to enjoy getting good. It is so unforgiving as a game that it has no slack at all for players who just wants to enjoy the story aspect and exploration, or do goofy stuff… because goofy stuff will get you killed. I am by no means saying the game should hold a players hand.. because most things can be solved by just churning your brain a little a bit and understanding the logic of things to solve it (remove weapons whenever one of the daily thunderstorms hit you for example, but it could use fewer rain and thunderstorms.. the weather is even more moody than in England). However, some enemies can suck it… and I am talking about you stupid red blobby eye hands.

    To all the people who complain about the bad graphics I just have two things to say. First do you realize that as art there is room for expression not everything in a game has to be photo realistic to be good. Second and I think even more sad is do these people realize that the most popular game ever made had graphics that were majorly outdated by the standards of the day, and that gap has only gotten larger.

      It's people like that that keep Nintendo from making what I REALLY want next... a Legend of Zelda RPG where Link has a full adventuring party with him, extensive dialog options, and branching plotlines.

    • @PomuLeafEveryday
      @PomuLeafEveryday Год назад +18

      I think it's about having good story structure, and compelling quests, and intricate well designed dungeons. Botw and TotK have taken big steps back when it comes to story, both are told through memories, and not compelling events happening in the present. Characters are very shallow compared to previous games, we aren't given any time to get to know characters and their relationship with Link, it's more like we're told their relationship with Link instead of being shown it and exploring it. The only part I liked was the Gerudo main quest leading to the light temple just because the little tower defence part was kinda interesting.
      Previous games would have beautiful set pieces for dungeons. Lots of decoration that meant something. The dungeons would have good structure and pacing, introduce a central theme for the dungeon design and puzzles to revolve around. Each of the puzzles were interlocked, each one leading to the next and building on what was introduced before, unlocking new parts of the dungeon in clever ways. It made the entire dungeon feel like one big puzzle that you were unraveling out. It made the dungeon feel holistic and well thought out.
      But these dungeons do nothing of the sort, they're like an extension of the overworld, a big playground of separately designed parts. Except the light temple which held some semblance of a traditional al Zelda dungeon with its design, the rest of the dungeons were crap. Just a case of find 5 mini puzzles to add to a counter in separated parts of the dungeon and come back for the boss fight, simple and repetitive. The dungeons didn't even look special (except the wind temple ship, it looked cool, just the dungeon layout was badly designed). Skyward Sword still has the most beautiful dungeons, big set pieces with gorgeous statues and decoration, often times they would play into the puzzles too. Why have we taken such a huge step back in dungeon design?
      I like TotK and BotW, but as big sandboxes explore and mess about in and not as Zelda games. I do wish story and dungeons were on par with the rest of the series, especially dungeon puzzle solving as this was what Zelda was known for. It's abandoning brand identity and alienating fans. Big open worlds are ok, exploring and crafting is ok, but don't throw dungeons which are the series' bread and butter to the sidelines.

    • @PomuLeafEveryday
      @PomuLeafEveryday Год назад +8

      @@SwiftbowNot that it has to be like old Zelda. Big open worlds are good, crafting and vehicles is good.
      But why is the story and dungeons so half-assed? Read my above comment for more.
      Some of us miss old Zelda because they did many things right which are half-assed in the new games. It's ok to expand and introduce new things, but that doesn't mean you can be lazy on the things you're known for and have been doing well for 35 years.

      @@PomuLeafEveryday I agree with you in the sense that just because these two games did well, it doesn't mean every zelda has to be like it now. Games like ocarina of time and twilight princess sacrificed the feeling of an actual world for storytelling, and vice versa for botw. So yeah, I want variation between zelda games. Hopefully we get more linear and open world games in the future as well as new styles such as side scrollers that are good like have a nice death

    People have no clue how hard it is to make an open world game that can be played in any order to follow a story line. All the possible outcomes, all the different dialouge for the npc's for every side quest so the experience still feels real to the player no matter how they play the game. You are fully capable of just shooting the thing if that’s what you prefer. But it’s not like gimmicky arrows are anything new either. As for the mucktorok? “Make the thing pop out of its hiding spot with some gimmick and then whack it” is also pretty classic

The story progression in that game is also based on how many dungeons a person beats so you don't have to worry about getting the story out of order so it is easy to keep track of and this was on the 3ds by the way.

So you have to rebuild or go to another stable. Most of the game is travel time. Breath of the Wild was the same way, but Tears of the Kingdom is worse in this regard with the depths and sky islands. It might not always be walking, but the sentiment is valid.

    Actually, I empathize with the person who struggled with the tutorial. Specifically the very end. Raru and the quest log nudge you towards Hyrule after clearing the ToT, with NO indication that the random empty looking debris above you is important in any way. Then the game spends its first bit of gameplay encouraging leaping from high spaces, and because more emphasis was placed on that as a navigating solution in navigating the Sky Islands as opposed to Ascend, I saw the debris and thought, "Oh, that must be the endgame area", and tried to leap to Hyrule, only for the game to *suddenly* decide "Actually, you can't do that thing we've been letting you do this whole time. You have to trigger the story important cutscene first." Also having to backtrack to get the 4th shrine instead of it being accessible right away is just padding.
    I told my friend after I FINALLY made it to Hyrule, "This game had better completely blow my mind after this or I'm refunding." Then I went to the Depths.

    • @JacktheRah
      @JacktheRah Год назад

      Interestingly I avoided the Depths for quite some time because I didn't have as much fun with them as I had with the skyislands. After I had explored basically all of them I was a bit disappointed that there weren't more of them. And then I wanted to explore it all.
      I do sometimes wonder if my love for exploration will disappoint me once I have explored everything interesting there is to see and whether or not I have ruined the stories of the quests a bit by exploring preemptively.

I suppose many older fans who have played this series since childhood may not be as big a fan of these new open-world Zelda games as some other people who are recently discovering this franchise as I for one prefer the windwaker, but my final opinion will be that all LoZ games are truly amazing and in my eyes none of them are terrible.

    The graphics in this game are beautiful. The sound design intentional, haunting and impeccable, even without direct score from Koji Kondo. The FPS is admittedly bad, but we've long since known that's been a problem of the switch's hardware, not the game itself. The plot being reflective of BotW can be admittedly redundant at times. For me, the Wind Temple reminded me so much of Vah Medoh it wasn't funny. But other times, seeing Zelda's past and the dedication and lives of characters new and old genuinely shook me. Anyone who thinks the game is just "reused" assests clearly doesn't understand how much TotK revamped its physics engine, how much new content is designed with new shrines, new temples, an entire sky and underground, entire landscapes changed, character designed upgraded. It's a sequel game on the same hardware for pete's sake. If any game you can compare it to, I'd compare it to Super Mario Galaxy 2. Amazing 9/10 game that could have been DLC, but quickly became such a huge project that it HAD to become its own game.

      A ton of new content, but also much recycled stuff. The overworld is mostly riddled with same monsters (bokoblins and lizalfos), and the graphics and base game engine are the same as botw. It's definitely a bunch of evolution thanks to the 2 new maps and new abilities, but I wouldn't agree that it's as extensive as some people claim.

      @@dickurkel6910 Ok but what about the durability system? In botw you didn’t want to fight enemies because your weapons break but in TotK you do because you get better fuse material that adds 25 durability and attack damage, and if you break decayed weapons you can find those pristine weapons in the depths. They put 4 years into the game for many reasons, and I also think the graphics were improved slightly.

    I mean, some of these reviews had legitimate concerns.. The game really does feel like dlc and it's nowhere near as revolutionary as, say, Ocarina of Time or Breath of the Wild. Not to mention that the weapon breaking system is STILL THERE and that some of the most basic features are locked behind really rather bothersome side quests (Exemple: Clothe upgrades with the fairy). I wouldn't give this game a below a 5.. but I sure as hell wouldn't give it higher than a 7 either. It's perfectly servicable.. but also incredibly overrated.

    - The new Sages Abillities are absolutely unusable due to them running around and having to be caught. BOTW got this better.
    - Weapon breaking is not as bad as in BOTW but still very annoying!
    - The fight system is a bit boring. Dodge mechanics are slow, enemies are slow and flurry rush and time stop archery is still way too OP and makes every fight boring. And you can become OP way too easily.
    - I still miss some Special weapons from the old Games, Like the grappling hook, whip and so on.
    - A lot of shrines are more of a Chore than a fun challenge
    - Glider etc breaking after a short time is annoying as well
    - The overworld and Sky Islands can be explored WAY to quick
    - The Underground is pretty boring
