@@IP0Monsturd this is not how things work. The batteries are well protected, the rare cases where they get damaged without a major crash is damage coming through the underbody shield which is strong but not invincible. This is a problem, but a quite rare one.

you cannot really compare 2nd hand market price(28k) with new car's tag price(50k) because the new car will have 7.5k federer tax credit and some state incentives, mostly will be a little over 10k. so the real comparison is 28k vs 40k. i think a new 40k car depreciation curve would reach 28k in 2-3 years anyway.
2024 MME GT Performance Bronze owner here (I love it). This car doesn't qualify for the $7.5k EV federal tax credit because most of it was built in Mexico and China.
@topranked5465 used EVs under $25k and more than 2 years old get a tax credit up to $4k. If the dealer offers tax credits on new cars, they will on the used EVs too. Get it before January since that's a pretty high priority to eliminate
It isn’t selling out mostly because of the charging infrastructure and that most people coming from ICE to EV have range anxiety. That said, the Mach-EV is still the SECOND highest selling EV SUV in the US. Only the model Y sells better so that says something… A LOT actually…
Veey good value! We got one 28k, less than 10k miles, certified, 150,000 warranty. Kept telling dealerships once 2024 hit these will lose even more value; no tax incentives. Kinda dumb not to see the good value! And this is about the bottom of the market. Soon these will go back up. Just like stocks buy low sell high.

Without a heat pump you still have heat, it’s just less efficient. Claiming that because there is no heat pump there is no „warmer elements for the batteries“ is utter lunacy.
@geraldh.8047 Yeah, I also researched about it but I heard from one owner that when he drives to colder area then the consumption goes directly up so he has to charge the car all the time in winter.

You always have range loss in winter even with heat pump but the heat pump certainly helps so that the range loss is not as horrible. Model Y came with heat pump as standard, Model 3 has it since late 2020. Earlier Tesla models have a PTC heater just like the Mach-E.
Pretty good car for that amount of money.... Talk to me again when the battery goes bad and you have to pay to replace it outside of warranty ... Or for the same money, I can get a Toyota Camry with some options thatll have much greater range and wont need to be plugged in all the time and wont have a huge expense to keep drivable at some point...
Super curious who and how much they paid you to do this puff piece. You can ask literally any EV fans what they think of the Mach-E and most will point to a lot of different cars as being way superior to it and your argument that the car depreciated almost 50% or more in 2 years is a good sign...oh boy. There's plenty of comparison videos going along, the Mach-E has terrible real-life range, it's a sporty car but I'm super curious what happens when that battery degrades, you'll be stuck with a sports car that has 100 miles on it, great... This isn't a good EV no matter how you put it. There's better alternatives, it's still a Mustang but it's probably targeted at the people who are EV skeptics that's why it lacks most technologies a current EV has and still has traditional car items.

Then, "in only a couple years it's come down from $50K" - So, in a few more years it's going to be a $8K car - or $5K car because it needs a new $12-15K battery and has depreciated even further than other EV's, killing any chance of repair (cost to repair too high) or resale. battery degradation is not that fast. mostly in 10years or 100k, it will degrade for about 7-10%. if you protect it well, never charge to full, degradation will be within 7%.
in general, electric cars depreciate very quickly, more than half of the value of the car is the battery, which already after a few years of use has a very poor autonomy!...2nd hand electric cars are not worth it...and the most of us know that...
as opposed to ICE cars that don't depreciate....? EVs depreciate much slower. The reason for the recent price drops is due to Tesla pricing very very aggressively
I don't own a Tesla but I invest in Tesla. I know they are at the forefront of this technology. They have the most reliable charging stations, which is why Ford adopted the Tesla standard charging connection which would make their vehicles able to charge at superchargers which are reliable and all over the place. There are so many examples this could be a story instead of a comment. Buying this Mach-E is a massive mistake! I can't tell you why because it's not what you want to hear but I wouldn't think twice about choosing Tesla as my first EV some day. To me, it's an absolute no brainer. I feel sorry for the ones who buy this, they're buying the old tech, not the new future tech. Tesla's first car was more advanced than this! far more advanced!

The reason for the depreciation is that EVs are not selling, carlots are broke out with EVs not selling. Most Americans are not buying into the EV bs. Why buy the inconveniences of an EV when for the same or less money you can buy a conventional car without the charging inconvenience of EV. EVs gain you nothing but more trouble in our already complex life. If you like a gimick, buy an EV.

EV’s don’t need to stop at gas stations. Most EV owners charge at home while they’re asleep. For as little as $2 for 150 miles of range depending on local electricity rates. EV’s don’t need oil changes, transmission flushes, spark plug replacements. WAY less maintenance.

Wow, I'm seeing used GTs for 30k (50%+ depreciation) Now that sounds like a feasible option.

there are still used car incentives as well. maybe not for $28k, but there are plenty that are sub $25k, which qualify for $4k used EV credit as well
