I am at 3 years and 5 months of trouble-free ownership. I also live in a country where snow tires are required by law in the winter months so no issue with lack of grip in icy/snowy conditions. This is by the far the best car I have ever owned (including cars like the Saab 9-3, which is designed for colder climes) and, apart from twice annual tire change (in and out of winter tires), it doesn't need any maintenance. If I would buy again today, I would definitely go with another Mach-e -- likely a GT model.
I'm picking up my 2023 Premium AWD extended range with the nite pony package tomorrow. This was a great video of what to expect. We had a pretty mild winter this year but winter tires will be something to think about for next winter. It was the same in my equinox, the AWD didnt help until i got winter tires. The AWD was great for wet weather conditions on its own though with my stock tires. It's my first EV, so im quite excited.
Youll will love EV driving! I love building and working on classic cars. But for daily driving, an EV is so nice, quiet and comfortable. I could never drive a full time gas burner again
Bought a gt a month ago. 2k miles, commute about 70-80 miles a day, havent used public charging yet. Charge every other day or so. With the key fob had 2 things most have, remote start, and the front trunk pop. I think the infotainment system is kind of wonky and connecting to my Samsung phone isnt the smoothest most of the time. All in all, super cool car, first e.v, and am very happy with it so far.
I've got an Ice Blue MME GT-P and love it. I've already put 36k miles on it. I commute 400 miles a week. I did have the infamous High Voltage Battery Junction Box (HVBJB) failure and had to have recall work done, but besides that, no issues whatsoever. Actually, the connectivity between my phone and the car disconnecting is a PITA. It happens when my phone is on low battery mode, so it's more a phone problem than a car problem. However, I plan on keeping this car until the battery dies.
Parking brakes are only ever on one axle. In front drive cars the trans locks the front wheels and parking brake does rears, otherwise it's rear axle only. You need winter tires.
Living in a country where winter tires are required by law, it was quite funny listening to that (overstretched) rant about lack of grip in winter conditions 😀 Besides that, parking brakes have always been applied to the rear wheels only and have nothing to do with propulsion unit. Parking brake mechanism actually engages wheel brake calipers. On a FWD car with a manual gearbox you would need to engage a gear to stop the front wheels spinning. You just need to get proper winter tires with proper grip! M+S are "poor man's solution" that don't really work in mildly harsh snow/ice conditions seen in your video! Anyway, thanks for the video and your perspective!
Totally agree, winter tires are going to be the best bet for good winter traction. I just want people to be aware of why it has a harder time in the snow than the maybe an average combustion SUV with stock tires. As for the parking/emergency brake, my point here was most AWD vehicles with an automatic transmission are going to lock both the front and rear axles via the transmission. That isn't the case for the Mach-E, only the rear motor locks.
GTPE owner here, I totally agree with what you've said. One thing I'd like to add that I really appreciate about the car is that both auto-hold and one-pedal are separate toggleable options. In some EVs (like the Ariya) you're always stuck in regular 2-pedal mode, and in others (like Teslas) you're always stuck in 1-pedal, so I really like that Ford made those optional. There's definitely a lot of room for improvement on the app. The good news (to me) is that Ford has made a lot of improvements since the vehicle debuted, so hopefully we'll be caught up in 5 or so years 😂I bought the car knowing that the hardware was great, but the software would probably be behind the competition for some time. 26:45 In the vehicle settings you can change some of the remote start settings - whether it'll last for 5, 10, or 15 minutes, and whether it'll always warm or cool, or just remember your last settings. Not a whole lot of options, but there's at least something.
Good points! Agree the hardware does seem solid (except maybe the high voltage contactor issue) and the software has room for improvement. I'm glad it's not the other way around.
Ford's warranty on the battery is 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first and warranties the battery retaining a minimum of 70% of its original capacity over that period. It's hard to say what replacement costs will be in ~2030 when the warranty runs out.
We have a 2021, premier, 4 wheel drive....only have 15,000 miles on it (got it with 2,000 miles, so do the math, lol) LOVE IT! Thank you for a great video!
Thanks for this. The Mach E is on our shortlist when we replace our “big” ICE vehicle for out of town trips. Your real world “what’s it like to live with” review is helpful. For in town we’ve got a MiniCooper EV which is a blast but very short range and of course, small.
I put michelin cross climate 2 tires on my Bolt EV and finally have traction and control! Before them the tires spun constantly and wore out in 1 year! More than 2 years on the cross climates and very little wear!
@@studzstudios just the factory round smooth eco tires that spun all the time especially when trying to cross traffic! These cross climate 2’s are amazing!
The HVBJB repair was relatively seamless. USAA had my car on a tow truck about 45 minutes after I called. Fortunately, I was at a gas station mini-mart when the car wouldn't start and only about 1 mile from home. Sedano Ford in San Diego had my car in for 3 days. However, the door did have to get readjusted after the repair. I am keeping an eye on whether the repair part actually is a true upgrade of the HVBJB or just a replacement with the same part. On the receipt for the repair, it does say that the part number is different from the original. Again, besides that one issue, my car is a pleasure to drive. The charging station network and long waits is more the issue than the car is.
Thanks for sharing this info, that's good to know! I'm looking forward to having access to at least a portion of the Tesla Supercharger network soon. That should make roadtrip charging a lot better with hopefully less wait time.
I drive mach e select for 7 months put on 26500 miles, charge everyday sometime twice a day(ubers) 85-100% about 210miles depending temperature. Its pretty brutal on the car but it holds very well😂😂😂 only warning i got was tpms on the front right wheel 😂😂😂. Ty the video❤❤❤
It does have an emergency brake, but this is only on the rear wheels, which is pretty standard for most cars. The rear wheels are locked from both the emergency brake and the rear motor parking prawl (transmission park), but the front wheels spin freely. Additional video on the channel about this here: ruclips.net/video/Y2nqEBZyK_0/видео.html
Just ordered a Blazer RS AWD mostly because it has no “twisty shifter”! They said I would get used to the “twisty shifter” in my 2021 RAM P.U. But after a couple of years it still drives me crazy, no way to know instinctively what gear it is in!
Congrats on the Blazer! I do find myself sometimes going into park instead of reverse due to spinning the knob too far when shifting to reverse from drive. The display will show you the "gear", but agree you can't know what gear by feel/instinct. I don't mind it in the case of the EV and I do like having a physical knob for the gear select as opposed to a touchscreen selection.
@studzstudios do you hear the brakes operating on your car? This is my first electric and it's so quiet but I can hear the brakes. Also, it feels like no matter how lightly I press down and try to come to a smooth and silent stop, they still make a little noise. I've chalked it up to the many inclines in California. I just don't think I've ever been able to hear the brakes in operation on a vehicle.
Sorry for the slow reply on this one. Yes, I can hear the brakes and they feel a bit "grabby". When the car was new and all the brake components were brand new it was very smooth, but now with a little wear-in they've gotten grabby and make a slight grunt kind of sound when close to being stopped.
That would be nice to have it act more like a cooler. It would probably be tough for that to work well in the summer though. The car gives off heat in the front from the AC compressor and the sun is also baking the hood right above it.
Great Video man... I've had my MY23 MME for 6 months, and it's the best car I've owned....& I've owned plenty. Mine is the Select model, and I couldn't be happier. The pricing of the Premium here in Australia made the step-up unattractive, but I haven't regretted that decision. You didn't mention the keypad entry to the car when you don't have your remote key-fob or your phone on you - very useful, given that the car self-locks every time you turn your back. I'm about to fit a customised DashCam (it looks like OEM) from FITCAMX - a really cool & affordable addition IMHO. I only wish Ford followed Tesla's lead and used the multitude of cameras on the car for DVR.
Glad you're happy with your Mach-E! You're right, the keypad is another option. I just wish phone as a key was more reliable. Totally agree with you, I wish the Mach-E could do dashcam recording with the cameras it already has.
I hate to say it, but all-season aren't the best option once the temperature gets below freezing. I bet if you switched to winter tires, you'd see a huge difference.
Agreed. I had Bridgestone Blizzak's for my Mustang GT Coupe and it made a big difference. For the Mach-E, it seems the stock all season tires have worse snow performance than other cars I've had with all season tires. It's a mixture of the tires themselves being low rolling resistance and the car itself being very heavy.
Hi I am thinking of buying a Mach-E (same spec as yours with LFP). Could you answer a few of questions. 1) Want is the real world range in winter? I live in south western Ontario Canada. 2) How far away does the key fob/phone as a key have to be to get the car to fully go to sleep? I have an attached garage and a smallish house. 3) Do you need to have the app open to receive OTA updates? Thanks
Good questions! 1. Range is a tough question to answer since there are many factors. I have a video about in-town range over a variety of different temperatures: ruclips.net/video/8ZSju7t8Xb4/видео.html. Generally I would reduce your summer range by 20-30% to get in the ballpark. 2. I don't have walk-away lock set-up (auto-lock after moving away) and lock it manually with the door button, key fob, or app. The car does wake-up when I approach and it's usually when I'm within about 15 feet or so. 3. No, don't need the app open to receive OTA updates. The app will notify you when the car has an update it installed or is going to install soon. Driving the car triggers checking for updates.
Get the GTPE. You won’t regret it. You get Magna ride which is worth the price increase. Plus you get the bigger front motor. Not the GT. The GTPE. Used low mileage are available at great prices right now.
I'd imagine most EV's are equipped from the factory with some sort of low rolling resistance tires for efficiency. If in the future you do opt for some more winter oriented tires I'd like to see a report on how those tires might effect your range.
Helpful on the winter situation since I live in NJ we don’t always get a lot of snow but the whole situation with it rolling down the driveway is a thing I’d wanna know! Has that situation changed with any recent years?
@@studzstudios that’s kinda silly, guess I can cheat it out a little and put wheel chucks I think they’re called that they put under trailers so the don’t roll down hill 🤦🏻♂️ kind of silly to do on a 40k dollar car
Yeah, I had Bridgestone Blizzak's for my old Mustang GT Coupe and they made a big difference. It snows pretty infrequently where I am and I have a short commute, so no immediate plans, but may consider it again down the road.
Did you talk about the range and what its like to go cross country finding charging stations. A big one for me, what was the cost of putting a charging station in your garage and how much does it cost to replace the battery out of warranty? Thanks.
Thanks for the questions! I have a few other videos where I talk more specifically about some of your questions. Charging costs: ruclips.net/video/Rx-Tfc6LXeg/видео.html, Range: ruclips.net/video/8ZSju7t8Xb4/видео.html, and Charging Home/Roadtrips: ruclips.net/video/JS7z8L-bsNE/видео.html I do not have a level 2 charger in my garage. I use a level 1 (110V outlet) charger and level 2 charge at work. Between those two options, I usually can take care of my charging needs. I can DC fast charge in town if necessary. To get a 50 amp 220V circuit in my garage, I would have to upgrade my panel. As others have mentioned in the comments, I might have enough room to put in a smaller 20-30amp 220V circuit. I don't have a great answer on battery replacement cost. The warranty is 8 years or 100K miles, whichever comes first. I haven't heard of Mach-E's replacing their battery out of warranty yet. My hope is that in a few years when there's enough batteries out there that need serviced there's options, like replacing a few cells in the battery instead of the whole thing. And/or, there's a newer improved and cheaper option that could be installed. Time will tell.
@studzstudios with the depreciation these things take, lease is the only way to go. 42+% in the first year, minimum. My wife and I both sell vehicles (me sales, her finance office), and no way would we purchase any EV for several reasons. Rapid advances in EV tech and depreciation are the cheif among them. Lease only, turn in the lease after that bc the vehicle will absolutely not be worth the residual.
@@nickamalfitano3613It’s all in the price. Ford was dumping these things here. Yep, they shipped them off to dealers. 72m 0% interest, 6K off list-that was about 12% off MSRP. Otherwise, EV’s were previously not market priced based on demand. Odd how those (former) government subsidies screw up the legitimate market. 😮. Nothing however quite makes up for depreciation if you dump after 2-3 years, that’s part of the deal for the driving experience, which is totally different than ICE.
I’m no expert, but I think the money you pay in the lease is the depreciation cost. And the residual if you choose to buy it out is what’s left over. The number of scenarios I’ve seen run show buying saving you two to $4000 depending upon the interest rate and the amount of time for the fin
Correct. The parking brake is only on the rear wheels, which is pretty standard for most cars. The rear wheels are locked from both the parking brake and the rear motor parking prawl, but the front wheels spin freely.
I'm so tempted to get a California 1 cause of the range and space but the Ioniq 6 range is insane(361) I'm stuck between both but unfortunately why the Ioniq is winning is because i live in a condo with no charging at home but i do get super cheap charging around my town .
I don't have any experience with the Ioniq except sitting in one at an auto show. Definitely need to drive one. It sounds like the range is the main factor due to no charging at home? Any other charging options for you, like at work / places you already go for errands? I'd try and test drive both and see if there's any other factors besides the range that helps you decide
Love my 2023 Premium. I have all though gone through some issues that maybe some of you can comment on. 1st, the car is not aerodynamically sound when driving with the windows down. Maybe it’s just me, but it gets very loud inside and the pressure to the ears sucks. Has anyone come up with a solution for this. 2nd, mine is in the shop right now because my Ford pass is not communicating between my car and phone. Info on screen is not accurate to real world. Tried updates, tried uninstall/reinstall, but nothing was working. 3rd, I live in Vegas. I’ve been having issues charging car with home charger connection because of the heat. I’ve been going to Electrify America to charge because of this?? Overall, I love my Mach E and have no intention of getting rid of it. Just trying to get these bugs out.
Thanks for the comment! Thoughts: 1. The main issue I've had with all four windows down is the rear middle seatbelt sometimes flaps against the seat and can be annoying. I'll have to pay more attention to the pressure. It does seem slightly more comfortable with just the front windows down instead of all four. 2. What phone do you have? I have an iPhone 13 and the Ford Pass app issues I've had have been due to the app crashing and not running in the background, otherwise it's been fine. 3. The heat is interesting. DC Fast Charging in the heat would be harder on the battery/components. What is the issue at home? Do you have to park outside/in the sun to charge? Can you charge at night time when it cools down? I've had my car tell me to plug in one time when it was really hot (~120F) so it could run the AC compressor to cool the battery.
I use the 14Pro iPhone wise. As far as the heat, yes, car is outside when charging. No choice as there are two classic cars taking up garage spots. It just has a problem charging in high heat conditions at the house. If I go to a mobile spot like Electrify America, it charges just fine in the high temps. Keep in mind that there is no shade for my car when parked at home. This means that the car is outdoors baking from the heat. Even at night during peak summer months, it’s just to hot. As far as wind noise when driving with windows down, the car just wasn’t designed very well as far as air flow into the cabin. The air flow into cabin of car is terrible.
Thanks for the reply! The classic cars sound fun! :) Is your home charger the one that came with the car or something else? Are you using 110V or 220V for charging? If you're on 110V, it's possible it doesn't have enough power to cool and charge at the same time in the heat.
I never carry the key. Only use the app. Never had real issues other than having to open the app on occasion to wake it up. You can tell if it will unlock just by button being lit up. If it’s lit, it will work when you press, otherwise, don’t even bother
Yeah, the chargers are pretty spaced out, but the extended range wouldn't really save me any charging stops since it's not quite enough extra capacity to skip to the next charger. As more chargers get built, it would make a bigger difference. The one detail I didn't realize with the standard range vs. extended range (2021-2022) was the charging speed (115kW vs. 150kW). I thought the premium trim models had faster charging, but that wasn't the case, it was specific to battery size. The newer models (~mid 2023+) with the standard range battery have the LFP chemistry instead of NCM and can support the 150kW peak. Also, since I don't roadtrip frequently, the extra capacity isn't really necessary and is going to take longer to charge on L1/L2 charging. With the LFP option in the lineup now, I'd still go with standard range.
Haha, I think it's the camera angle and me trying to stay in the frame. It's actually pretty roomy, I don't feel cramped. There's quite a bit of room above my head with the glass roof and it's hard to see side-to-side room from this angle. I'm 5'9.
Good video. I have a. ’22 California route one. Currently at 27,000 miles. I honestly have never used the capacitive lock. I’ll have to try it. As for tires, why would you drive in snow without chains?
Let me know what you think of the capacitive lock and if it's accidentally gotten in your way when trying to open the door. As for chains, you really only use chains if you're driving with snow depth/ice on roads and you can't go above 20-30mph with them on. Winter tires are going to be a better option for frequent winter driving. The all season tires have good cold wet traction, just not good snow/ice traction, so it does fine when temps are above freezing.
I suggest taking a demo drive in a Model Y. Get first had knowledge of panel gaps, don’t rely on second hand information. Also you can evaluate the interior, and functions first hand to compare to your vehicle. 👍🏻
@@studzstudios I heard Austin built cars still might have some issues. But my new 2023 Model Y was perfect in paint and panels gaps too. My 2018 Model 3 paint was okay, but nothing compared to my new car.
Sure, but these are the tires that come on the car stock from the factory. In my experience, these have worse snow and ice performance compared to other factory stock all season tires I've owned. It's a mixture of the tires themselves being low rolling resistance and the car itself being very heavy.
Locking the doors with a fingertip? The doors can lock with a fingertip with the captive lock button on the door pillar, but sometimes this lock function doesn't respond right away.
The door handles are what killed it for me. I do not do well with finicky products when we as a species have that product pretty well figured out. Door handles are one such thing.
Yeah, I think Ford came up with a really clever and well thought-out design on the Mach-E's door handles, but the software to trigger them is still too inconsistent. With the key fob in-hand, they're more reliable than with the phone, but still not as simple and reliable as a traditional door handle.
The door ‘handles’ they designed actually work extremely well and are very easy to use. It’s nice that the door pops open if your hands are full you just need one free finger. It’s not complicated like some people find Tesla handles where you can’t do it without a completely free hand.
The actual hardware engineering that went into the door operation was very well done (with the exception of putting a capacitive lock button right next to the physical unlock button). The main issue is the inconsistency of the software allowing the door to actually unlock/open. When they work, it's great, it's just a regular occurrence that they don't open first try.
My insurance stayed roughly the same from my prior gas Mustang GT. My theory is even though the GT was older, the accident risk was higher. The Mach-E is newer and worth more, but lower accident risk. I think it all depends on what you're comparing against.
The navigation system is several times useless. It prefers using Toll roads even when a freeway is going the same place. I also very much have the map scale. "0.02" to about 1 1/2 on the map. I slide my fingers to increase the scale. The with out notice it reverts back to 0.02. You look back at the map and say "What the heck"
Haha, the built-in navigation is decent for finding chargers and getting range estimates when road tripping. But, agree, it's not nearly as good as Google or Apple Maps on your phone in terms of responsiveness and finding lesser known places.
Lease, DO NOT BUY. That goes for any EV. Several reasons for this, but the top 3 are rapid depreciation (minimum 40% first year, industry wide), rapidly evolving tech, and sky high residuals that make leasing the cheaper option.
Leasing could be a good option, I haven’t run the numbers myself on the recent deals. The depreciation (at least current prices) is significant. The main disadvantage of the lease could be mileage and if you want to buy one of these to pile miles on cheaply, a lease could be a limiting factor.
A few of your complaints are pretty lame. 1) All cars get paint chips on the front paint, because rocks and things on the road hit there. 2) All cars skid on ice etc. when you put the brakes on. I had an AWD Chrysler Eagle Talon TSI with very expensive Goodyear Eagle GT+4 tires, and it would also skid in the winter when I put the brakes on. It was not an EV, it had the 200hp Turbo 4 cyl, so gas cars skid in the winter too when you hit the brakes, all cars do that. 3) If you do not like how the tires perform in the winter, replace them with snow tires, or just buy better tires that work in the snow better. 4) You say the stereo is just ok, and that is pretty much that same for all factory stereo systems, what you do is upgrade the stereo, like everyone else does who are not happy with the factory stereo. EV or not, most factory car stereo systems are not that great. In closing, some of your complaints are valid, but a lot of them are trivial, and have nothing to do with the car being an EV, all the other cars have those same problems. The front wheels not locking in park is a big problem, and the lock/unlock on the doors not working all the time is also a big problem, the rest of it is pretty much nothing.
Thanks for your feedback. Yeah, some of the points are definitely minor, just wanting to include these little details for someone who is interested in this vehicle since some of these things are hard to pick up on if you only have the car for a few days. 1. Paint chips - yep, not unique to the Mach-E. Just wanted to show first hand after 13K miles how things were holding up. 2. Skid on ice - agreed, all cars are going to skid on ice. The Mach-E is just worse than my experience with other cars due to a mix of the tires, weight, and brake regen happening primarily on the rear axle. 3. Snow tires - yes, snow tires would definitely help. I had Bridgestone Blizzak's for my Mustang GT Coupe and it made a huge difference. I'm mentioning this for the Mach-E since the stock all season tires have worse snow performance than other cars I've had with all season tires. It's a mixture of the tires themselves being low rolling resistance and the car itself being very heavy. 4. Stereo - yeah, most stock systems are just average. I was expecting a little more (specifically low frequencies) from this B&O system since it's an upgrade over the standard system that comes with the Select trim.
man this video really made me appreciate my tesla. i didnt realize other evs had so many bugs. and the ford app looked awful. you literally cant do anything with it. i really hope ford pulls it together
Tesla is definitely leaps and bounds ahead on the software side. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Ford's BlueCruise all work great in the Mach-E, but would like to see them improve the software for things like the doors/phone-as-a-key/app/etc.
The thing that made me go with Tesla y instead, is that knob they put on the mach e’s touchscreen just isn’t for me. I feel they could’ve put this elsewhere
Interesting! I personally like the knob and location. Where would you suggest putting it? Or would you remove it all together and use steering wheel buttons / touch screen controls for everything?
2.6 MPK??? I live in upstate NY, use snow tires from mid November until mid April. Over 12 month my MPK has been 3.2 driving a 2023 Ioniq 5 AWD Ltd. That means I'm getting 23% better mileage! 2.6 is horrible for any car in this class. Something seems amiss.
Thanks for sharing. 3.2 is an impressive average including the winter months! I'm not convinced the display showing 2.6 miles/kWh lifetime is actually correct. Especially considering the last 2K miles during the winter show the same efficiency as the lifetime 13K miles which includes summer driving. I think there's a rounding problem. 2.6 is probably about right in the winter months, but in the spring/summer/fall I'm in the 3.0-3.5 range. I also only have L1 charging at home, so the car can't precondition from external power, so that eats into the efficiency some in the winter as well. The car is also resistive heat, no heat pump. Rounding problem comments here: ruclips.net/video/2iinvs92dRo/видео.htmlsi=oUpegDK3IgZmhcl6&t=845
@@studzstudios I think you are probably right and the car is not reporting accurate info. This car is near the top of my list at lease end in 2026. The options keeping getting better and better.
I decided not to buy after the first 2 minutes of video even though it is offered on a 72 months 0 Apr right now. But when the basic things such as door lock/unlock are not bug free then i am out.
False. I've had mine since 2021. I use my phone as key, sometimes my key and my key code and I'm always locked. When you walk away it locks. The only thing annoying is it locks too much. Meaning, when you wash your car it locks even if you move a few feet away to open the frunk. The Mach e is amazing. I've owned/own tesla and the form fit and diction of my mach e is much better. It's a more fun car to drive.
I'd definitely recommending driving both if you can. I like the styling and the interior of the Mach-E better. With the Mach-E being able to charge on many V3/V4 Tesla Superchargers with an adapter now, the roadtrip charging playing field is a little more even. Tesla has the better software (unless you really want to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto). Tesla has also had the advantage on price, but you may be able to get a deal on the Mach-E since many dealers have 2023's they're trying to move.
When you add the Tech included in the Mach e it's a luxury car. That being said. The $10K more in costs is what you'll pay in fuel and car maintenence over 4 years. If you keep it longer, the savings are much better. $14K after 6 years. That's how long I typically keep a car, but plot twist. With less maintenance (basically tire rotation and fluids), longer brake performance, and minimal mileage loss, if I keep it for 10 years, it'll basically pay for itself. After 10 years my ice cars still cost me so much to drive.
OK, it looks like there aren't too many problems. However, I personally regret that this car is called a Mustang. It has absolutely nothing to do with a Mustang. It has 4 doors which Mustangs never had, it has front and four wheel drive which Mustangs never had and it does not even look like a Mustang. Ford should give it another name. Calling this a Mustang is almost an insult to people that own a real Mustang
Thanks for the comment. I still have mixed feelings about the name myself. My first video is about this topic: ruclips.net/video/5lEyt3q6yZo/видео.html
MY ICE CAR is paid for and thank the universe i don't need to buy a new car now. this is all interesting but to me, it's not ready for prime time. the doors are just silly, a key that doesn't work is a lot like not having a car. your driveway was not steep and it slid into the street. no spare. unimpressed with the rear storage configuration and usage. give me a good solid reliable car for 15000 dollars less with better range and no surprises. if people would just buy small engined cars like station wagons, and simple gauges that worked then add some more pollution equipment. last but not least outlaw trucks with one person in them. we could slow the last tick on the doomsday clock down for a decade or two.
Can't argue with you on no car payment, that's a good place to be! And yes, EVs are definitely still in their early days and future versions should get better in many ways.
Supply definitely caught up with demand and Tesla significantly reducing their prices has made the Mach-E sales decline. I suspect many people are also wanting to wait for 2025 models at this point.
If you take some long or medium road trips , a EV is still not the automobile to have. If you drive to and from work and have a garage wherein you can charge your car , then its ok. I am all for , let the consumer decide what is best for them and not the Federal Government !!
Yeah, EV road tripping is still generally going to take longer than a gasoline vehicle and costs are similar to gasoline with fast charging being more expensive than home charging. But, the charging speeds and charger availability are getting better with the Mach-E now being able to charge at many V3/V4 Tesla Superchargers. With more chargers and a little faster charging in the future, I think it'll be in the ballpark to roadtripping a gas vehicle. In town with the Mach-E is great.
No, no chains included. You really only use chains if you're driving with snow depth/ice on the roads. You can't go above 20-30mph with them on. Snow tires would be the way to go if you're regularly driving in the snow.
I think the hardware side of the Mach-E (except for maybe the HV contractors) has been pretty solid. The software side is generally where it'd be great to see some improvements
First of all ... ITS NOT A MUSTANG ... ITS A MACH E ... PERIOD ... END OF DISCUSSION. Now that that's established ... it could be a viable entry into the EV space, if they can iron out the shortcomings. Remains to be seen ...
One of my first videos is about this topic: ruclips.net/video/5lEyt3q6yZo/видео.html. I do generally refer to it as "my Mach-E" rather than "my Mustang" or "my Mustang Mach-E'. I do prefer the styling of a traditional Mustang, but for an SUV, I really like how the Mach-E looks.
Ford's warranty on the battery is 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first and warranties the battery retaining a minimum of 70% of its original capacity over that period. The expected life should be much longer than this too. I will definitely make some videos about how the battery is doing as more time goes on.
I will never buy an EV VEHICLE, they are a major fire hazzard and they have to many technical problems. But with that being said i don't care for any other new vehicles because of all the computerized crap they put in these vehicles. Bring back lur older vehicles.
There's something to be said for the simplicity of older cars. Although, on paper, the EV powertrain is a lot simpler in terms of the hardware (think electric motor vs. gasoline engine in terms of number of components). But, all the new cars are a lot more complicated on the electronic/software side.
Haha, no, since most of my charging is at home or at work, so the time isn't an issue. I think the longest I ever waited for charging on a roadtrip was about 45 minutes, but typically can get enough charge to make it to the next charger after 25-30 minutes. The extended range and LFP versions of the Mach-E can charge faster than mine (150kW peak vs. 115kW peak), so that will reduce those times further. Some EVs on the market can charge faster than the Mach-E and those speeds will continue to improve over the next few years
It's definitely more comfortable and practical for my family than a Mustang Coupe. It checks a lot of boxes, including performance, modern tech, comfort, cargo space, and running costs. It's not for everyone though and I'm still glad Ford is making the traditional Mustang Coupe.
Supply definitely caught up with demand and Tesla significantly reducing their prices has made the Mach-E sales decline. I suspect many people are also wanting to wait for 2025 models at this point since there are a lot of refreshes expected for all the current generation EVs.
@@markmiller8903I've been driving ice for 30 years and ev for 6 and I'm never going back to ice if i can help it. You buy what you want, but so will i
For styling, I prefer the look of the traditional coupe Mustang as well, but compared to SUVs (EV or not), I think it's one of the better looking SUVs out there.
Winter/snow tires (even studless) make a big difference, primarily due to a different rubber compound that’s softer at lower temperatures and a different tread design often with more siping. I had Blizzak’s on my gas mustang previously and it helped tremendously in the winter. The stock all-season tires on the Mach-E perform poorly in snow/icy conditions, I think due to a design for lower rolling resistance
Great info about the winter driving. I really appreciate this info! Thanks so much!!!
I’ve had this car for almost 2 years. Definitely the BEST vehicle I have ever had!!!
I hear Mach E owners say this all the time, that's it's the best vehicle they have ever owned.
We love our Mach-E
I'm picking up my 2023 Premium AWD extended range with the nite pony package tomorrow. This was a great video of what to expect. We had a pretty mild winter this year but winter tires will be something to think about for next winter. It was the same in my equinox, the AWD didnt help until i got winter tires. The AWD was great for wet weather conditions on its own though with my stock tires.
It's my first EV, so im quite excited.
Congratulations! Enjoy your Mach-E!
I really do enjoy the ride. I dislike having to hunt for everything on the screen (radio).
How has first month been?
Youll will love EV driving! I love building and working on classic cars. But for daily driving, an EV is so nice, quiet and comfortable. I could never drive a full time gas burner again
Bought a gt a month ago. 2k miles, commute about 70-80 miles a day, havent used public charging yet. Charge every other day or so. With the key fob had 2 things most have, remote start, and the front trunk pop. I think the infotainment system is kind of wonky and connecting to my Samsung phone isnt the smoothest most of the time. All in all, super cool car, first e.v, and am very happy with it so far.
Hey great in-depth Mach-E content!
Thanks, Liv! I really enjoy your Mach-E Vlog videos!
@@studzstudios aw thank you! 💙
Very insightful review, great work
Appreciate it, thanks!
Love mine 50k later brought 2021 and really impressed by Ford update all the time and always fun to drive 🚗
Wow, 50K miles, that's great! Any big issues so far?
I've got an Ice Blue MME GT-P and love it. I've already put 36k miles on it. I commute 400 miles a week. I did have the infamous High Voltage Battery Junction Box (HVBJB) failure and had to have recall work done, but besides that, no issues whatsoever. Actually, the connectivity between my phone and the car disconnecting is a PITA. It happens when my phone is on low battery mode, so it's more a phone problem than a car problem. However, I plan on keeping this car until the battery dies.
Glad you've had a mostly good experience! How did the HVBJB recall go? Was the car in the shop awhile?
Nice review. You answered a lot of my questions
Parking brakes are only ever on one axle. In front drive cars the trans locks the front wheels and parking brake does rears, otherwise it's rear axle only. You need winter tires.
Right, my surprise was my Mach-E's front wheels turning freely even though it's an AWD model.
Great review, thank you!
I'm glad it's not the other way around.
any idea on the battery replacement ?
Ford's warranty on the battery is 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first and warranties the battery retaining a minimum of 70% of its original capacity over that period. It's hard to say what replacement costs will be in ~2030 when the warranty runs out.
We have a 2021, premier, 4 wheel drive....only have 15,000 miles on it (got it with 2,000 miles, so do the math, lol) LOVE IT! Thank you for a great video!
Appreciate it, thanks! Enjoy your Mach-E.
Thanks for this. The Mach E is on our shortlist when we replace our “big” ICE vehicle for out of town trips. Your real world “what’s it like to live with” review is helpful. For in town we’ve got a MiniCooper EV which is a blast but very short range and of course, small.
What's your "big" ICE vehicle? The Mini sounds like a lot of fun.
I put michelin cross climate 2 tires on my Bolt EV and finally have traction and control! Before them the tires spun constantly and wore out in 1 year! More than 2 years on the cross climates and very little wear!
That's good to hear, thanks for the info! Do you know what tires you had previously?
@@studzstudios just the factory round smooth eco tires that spun all the time especially when trying to cross traffic! These cross climate 2’s are amazing!
Michelin Cross Climate 2 are amazing tires. I have them on my 2015 Camry and they're great in wet and snowy conditions
We just picked up a Marc-E. Love driving it, especially in the Unbridled mode. We tend to leave it in Wisper mode most of the time.
Congrats on the Mach-E! I agree, Unbridled is the most fun if you're used to one-pedal drive.
That's great to hear! How do your passengers like it?
'23 GTPE owner. The concerns with the physical key and entry issues are real. Annoying!
Agreed. It's definitely not the end of the world, just an annoyance that I didn't experience on other vehicles I've owned.
Explain how it rolled down driveway doesn’t it have a emergency brake when parked in driveway, have been looking at the 2024 Mach e premium
Nice presentation get some winter tires
The sound system in this is so nice.
They recently pushed an update to tune the audio and it sounds better. I can hear the sub more than before.
The only thing about the frunk that sucks is it’s not insulated. That would help with keeping things cold or warm
With everything you have experienced would you choose the Mach e over the Tesla Model Y?
@@attilamolnar7555 Yeah, I still much prefer the styling and interior of the Mach-E over the Tesla Model Y.
@studzstudios thanks so much, really appreciate your sober reviews on the mach e
I'd imagine most EV's are equipped from the factory with some sort of low rolling resistance tires for efficiency. If in the future you do opt for some more winter oriented tires I'd like to see a report on how those tires might effect your range.
Winter weather with winter tires in Canada my friend manages 300km ish
Agreed. Great suggestion on testing the range with winter tires for comparison.
Helpful on the winter situation since I live in NJ we don’t always get a lot of snow but the whole situation with it rolling down the driveway is a thing I’d wanna know! Has that situation changed with any recent years?
I don't believe so. I haven't heard of newer Mach-E's ('23 or '24) putting a parking brake in the front motor.
@@studzstudios that’s kinda silly, guess I can cheat it out a little and put wheel chucks I think they’re called that they put under trailers so the don’t roll down hill 🤦🏻♂️ kind of silly to do on a 40k dollar car
Overall amazing car
Have you thought about getting winter tires?
Yeah, I had Bridgestone Blizzak's for my old Mustang GT Coupe and they made a big difference. It snows pretty infrequently where I am and I have a short commute, so no immediate plans, but may consider it again down the road.
Did you talk about the range and what its like to go cross country finding charging stations. A big one for me, what was the cost of putting a charging station in your garage and how much does it cost to replace the battery out of warranty? Thanks.
Thanks for the questions! I have a few other videos where I talk more specifically about some of your questions. Charging costs: ruclips.net/video/Rx-Tfc6LXeg/видео.html, Range: ruclips.net/video/8ZSju7t8Xb4/видео.html, and Charging Home/Roadtrips: ruclips.net/video/JS7z8L-bsNE/видео.html
I do not have a level 2 charger in my garage.
The cross country travel question always makes me laugh. Almost nobody travels long range in an EV.
Great leases in mid 2024 right now. Not necessarily a buy, but lease if you do.
Lease could be a good option!
10:07 even with the parking brake set on?
Correct. The parking brake is only on the rear wheels, which is pretty standard for most cars. The rear wheels are locked from both the parking brake and the rear motor parking prawl, but the front wheels spin freely.
are those summer or all season tires? i'm thinking of replacing mine with 255 all season tires
Mine are all-seasons. Are you getting different wheels to accommodate a 255-width tire?
I'm so tempted to get a California 1 cause of the range and space but the Ioniq 6 range is insane(361) I'm stuck between both but unfortunately why the Ioniq is winning is because i live in a condo with no charging at home but i do get super cheap charging around my town .
I don't have any experience with the Ioniq except sitting in one at an auto show. Definitely need to drive one. It sounds like the range is the main factor due to no charging at home? Any other charging options for you, like at work / places you already go for errands? I'd try and test drive both and see if there's any other factors besides the range that helps you decide
That snow sliding was scary.
I hope they fixed that issue.
All wheel break parking.
Yeah, agreed. It'd be more understandable in the RWD only model, but I was surprised this was the case in the AWD model.
Thoughts:
Good point on the button being lit - I will pay closer attention to this
Where in southern ID are you? It's surprising you went with the SR version considering the big distances that are involved in that state.
With the LFP option in the lineup now, I'd still go with standard range.
curious about your height/weight as the shot at 3:15 looks like you’re pretty cramped in there 😅
Haha, I think it's the camera angle and me trying to stay in the frame.
@@studzstudios See, I have teh app and my phone is usually with me. That opens the doors befoe I even ge to the car.
@@KaiPonte Good to know. For some reason the Ford App frequently crashes on my iPhone so I often have to restart it before the door will open
I suggest taking a demo drive in a Model Y. Get first had knowledge of panel gaps, don’t rely on second hand information. Also you can evaluate the interior, and functions first hand to compare to your vehicle. 👍🏻
Agreed, great idea. I would like to spend some time with a Model Y for comparison
@@studzstudios I heard Austin built cars still might have some issues. But my new 2023 Model Y was perfect in paint and panels gaps too. My 2018 Model 3 paint was okay, but nothing compared to my new car.
passenger side drivers door?
Ha, good catch. I should have said edge of the front passenger door.
The tires are not winter tires. You can't hold that against the vehicle.
Sure, but these are the tires that come on the car stock from the factory. In my experience, these have worse snow and ice performance compared to other factory stock all season tires I've owned. It's a mixture of the tires themselves being low rolling resistance and the car itself being very heavy.
What do you spend on charging this car?

Close the windows, the door wil close with a fingertip i think.
Sorry, what issue are you referring to?
@@studzstudios doors
Locking the doors with a fingertip? The doors can lock with a fingertip with the captive lock button on the door pillar, but sometimes this lock function doesn't respond right away.
Step on the gas?
Haha, nice find. Old habits die hard. What terminology do you use? Accelerator?
Hows your insurance? Heard that Teslas have lot more insurance cost are really high.
My insurance stayed roughly the same from my prior gas Mustang GT. My theory is even though the GT was older, the accident risk was higher. The Mach-E is newer and worth more, but lower accident risk. I think it all depends on what you're comparing against.
@@studzstudios Mach E is maybe a better car in terms of repairability compared to Teslas.
Hence the insurance are lower.
Complains about bass at the 4:30 mark, but bass is turned down.
Haha, I have it bumped a few ticks above the default. If you bump it more it gets muddy.
It’s a gang of them in Cali!
How many do you usually see together?
Cool front! Kinda cool back?
My personal favorite is the side profile view of the back
Most them like it very much😊😊😊
Don’t have that problem in Florida

Cool!
man this video really made me appreciate my tesla. i didnt realize other evs had so many bugs. and the ford app looked awful. you literally cant do anything with it. i really hope ford pulls it together

Yeah, it's not a deal breaker for me, but it is very annoying since you deal with it every time you use the car
I've been thinking about purchasing this instead of a Tesla
I'd definitely recommending driving both if you can. I like the styling and the interior of the Mach-E better. With the Mach-E being able to charge on many V3/V4 Tesla Superchargers with an adapter now, the roadtrip charging playing field is a little more even. Tesla has the better software (unless you really want to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto). Tesla has also had the advantage on price, but you may be able to get a deal on the Mach-E since many dealers have 2023's they're trying to move.
@@studzstudios thanks for the insight!
It's an ok car for city people..who have a garage and home charger. ..and you will pay $10k or more .
$10k or more for which part specifically? The home charging?
@@studzstudios no, the price of the automobile compared to the gas version of a the same type product
Ah, gotcha. The hope is the lower maintenance and running costs will add up to some significant savings, but time will tell
Electric cats are the way to go. We only got rid of one of the teslas due to boredom. Great cars! I like my mach e more, but I'm all in on EVs now.
Well, that’s correct. It’s not an ICE Mustang. However, the torque is awesome. I can imagine it is the second most exciting car in the Ford lineup.
Sell? They can't give them away. This is what happens when you put batteries in an ICE car. But they look nice.
Supply definitely caught up with demand and Tesla significantly reducing their prices has made the Mach-E sales decline. I suspect many people are also wanting to wait for 2025 models at this point.
Just open hatch before you turn car off.. jeeso man..lol
Sure, that works. I just often turn the car off and start to open the driver's door before I remember I want to open the trunk.
Ford paint is very thin. Bummer for sure.
My experience is these small chips on the plastic part of the bumper are pretty typical for any car if you do highway driving
When driving in snow ❄️ use chains ⛓️. 😅
I quest they don't include in the car.
Use common sense.😂 😮
No, no chains included. You really only use chains if you're driving with snow depth/ice on the roads. You can't go above 20-30mph with them on. Snow tires would be the way to go if you're regularly driving in the snow.
Cheap build quality by Ford…
After 18 Months you will be replacing the battery. It is going to be expensive.
Ford's warranty on the battery is 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first and warranties the battery retaining a minimum of 70% of its original capacity over that period. The expected life should be much longer than this too. I will definitely make some videos about how the battery is doing as more time goes on.
Battery has 8 years warranty
I will never buy an EV VEHICLE, they are a major fire hazzard and they have to many technical problems. But with that being said i don't care for any other new vehicles because of all the computerized crap they put in these vehicles. Bring back lur older vehicles.
There's something to be said for the simplicity of older cars. Although, on paper, the EV powertrain is a lot simpler in terms of the hardware (think electric motor vs. gasoline engine in terms of number of components). But, all the new cars are a lot more complicated on the electronic/software side.
did you feel your IQ drop 30 points the first time you had to sit at a charging station for hours waiting on a charge ?
Haha, no, since most of my charging is at home or at work, so the time isn't an issue. I think the longest I ever waited for charging on a roadtrip was about 45 minutes, but typically can get enough charge to make it to the next charger after 25-30 minutes. The extended range and LFP versions of the Mach-E can charge faster than mine (150kW peak vs. 115kW peak), so that will reduce those times further. Some EVs on the market can charge faster than the Mach-E and those speeds will continue to improve over the next few years
Why in the heck would anyone want a four door EV Mustang?
It's definitely more comfortable and practical for my family than a Mustang Coupe. It checks a lot of boxes, including performance, modern tech, comfort, cargo space, and running costs. It's not for everyone though and I'm still glad Ford is making the traditional Mustang Coupe.
No idea. Looks like a Hyundai or Nissan.
Its only Mustang by name
They can't sale these things.. they cut the price...do not buy..
Supply definitely caught up with demand and Tesla significantly reducing their prices has made the Mach-E sales decline. I suspect many people are also wanting to wait for 2025 models at this point since there are a lot of refreshes expected for all the current generation EVs.
Buy a polestar instead. Polestar is loyal they don’t cut prices so the second value of your car won’t be worthless.
Do not buy any EV. Stick with ICE.
@@markmiller8903I've been driving ice for 30 years and ev for 6 and I'm never going back to ice if i can help it.
You buy what you want, but so will i
Sale 🤣🤣🤣
That blob is an insult to real Mustangs. Awful junk. No wonder they can't sell them.
For styling, I prefer the look of the traditional coupe Mustang as well, but compared to SUVs (EV or not), I think it's one of the better looking SUVs out there.
Dude talked about the damn door for the first five mins. WHO cares!
To use the car you have to use the doors. Unlocking and opening the doors on the Mach-E isn't always smooth sailing, so I think it's worth discussing
The tires dont grip ice?
Please name one rubber tire that grips ice
Lol
I am not surprised they sold you one
Winter/snow tires (even studless) make a big difference, primarily due to a different rubber compound that’s softer at lower temperatures and a different tread design often with more siping. I had Blizzak’s on my gas mustang previously and it helped tremendously in the winter. The stock all-season tires on the Mach-E perform poorly in snow/icy conditions, I think due to a design for lower rolling resistance
@@studzstudios I think all rubber tires slide on ice
