Had mine since April and love it. Stuck a HKS exhaust and DTUK tuning box on mine and it absolutely flies along. This time of year when the roads are wet and greasy it really embarrasses a lot of much more expensive, more powerful, and exotic machinery.
I should add that although I’m 6’2” I don’t have any visibility issues but admit that the horn is comically embarrassing. Maybe a retro fitted two tone PIAA jobby is required.
Careful with those tuning boxes. They put rail pressure well above safe levels. Much better getting a proper tune.
@@freddiejones4598 there is no option of a proper tune at the moment as no one has managed to crack the Toyota / Denso ECU
@@mugenmark fair enough I was thinking that might have been the case after I posted the comment
@@mugenmark u can go Motec
The first dirt slide was epic
Hats off, the best review of the GRY I've seen, and I've seen them all. Your description of driving experience is so detailed and precise, makes me feel like I'm already driving mine (won't arrive before 2023 it seems). Really informative and enjoyable review!
Thanks buddy! You will love yours - congrats 😎🏁
I’ve had my circuit pack car nearly 11 months, it was one of fist delivered as I ordered one as soon as I heard the words engineers from LFA, I’ve done 11,000 miles and kept it standard, this review is so accurate, the thing is it doesn’t waste any HP at any time. that’s why it feels so rapid and grippy as you can use every single HP any time even in the wet. It’s Bonkers lol.
What is its MPG?
@@turnoff7572 24000 miles 39.8 yearly average.
this car makes you happy! have one for 4 month now. first time ever I cannot wait for winter. cheers from Switzerland
Great video mate... excellent visuals and great narrative too. Really enjoyed it and loving the GR Yaris 👍
Love these drive videos, the way you describe the feelings of the car is so cool.
Yellow looks great, I never really took notice of the "bubble" on the bonnet until I see it in this colour.
I love the rear yellow license plate that blend in with the car. Lovely
Some rally style O.Z Racing alloys would look perfect on this 👌
Or speedlines
Saw one in Sheffield with white OZ wheels and martini livery
I’ve had mine for a month…omg it’s just fab. For me the seats are perfect, it’s very comfortable, basic interior but high quality… just drive one and you’ll know… the last of a breed but the most fun little car you could ever own… 🥰🥰🥰
I didn’t like it, to heavy and not enough power.
@@tony57racing4 lol the exact opposite of what it was designed and engineered to be. 🤦🏻♂️
@@dejan. 40-50 kg too heavy and 40-50 hp more would been great, but to be fair it’s a very very cheap car and I’m sure it’s great during winter.
How is 1280kg too heavy these days?
@@relentlesspursuit6894 for that car, felt sluggish.
Love the video! Getting mine in March. May i ask exactly which shade of yellow this is? Wanted to wrap mine in renault liquid yellow, but i also love this one.
Exquisite footage & presentation!
Which mode did you use while driving it on the wet?
I've had my pure white circuit pack GR Yaris for 11 months now and indeed what. a. car!! 😍
I knew it would be good when I saw it on paper having two diffs, AWD and in a small Yaris platform I was sold and preordered one immediately! 😎 👌🏻
Stunning wrap!
You need to get yourself an air take for the Yaris, Shmee's recently fitted one sounds great and you can hear turbo and blow off valve sounds!
That POV view is awesome
Getting my GR in December can’t wait
Great vid cheers! How do you think it compares to the Audi S1 you had?
Love that cheeky drift in the intro
Fantastic video! I completely agree as well, I've had mine for a couple of months now, I've loved it. I took it out for a drive the other day, greasy roads, few leaves thrown in, the car impressed me more and more each corner. I think it's the only car I've ever owned that has me praying for snow this winter! Pop some winter tyres, and OZ rally racing wheels :)
This!
Smashing the views - are the subscribers finally ‘not believing the hype?’ Particularly behind the FAKE NEWS ownership of vehicle within the JWW camp 💁🏽
Lucky it wasn't another stunning beautiful sunny summers day James!!!!
Very spot on as usual. Great you can enjoy this 30k car considering your other cars. !
Hi thanks for the vids. Interested to know the route that you took for the Yaris drive. Great view and roads ! Thanks
Looks really great in that colour..!!
Brilliant road that one up and over from Gleneagles to Glendevon. 👍🏻
Imagine Porsche doing a hot hatch with a 4.0 flat t six from the GT3-RS
Wow 😯 an incredible idea 💡👏
Yeah brilliant idea..undermine your halo car by putting it's USP in a much cheaper unit...sounds like great business
What do you mean by flat "T" six?
Hope you don't mean turbo. GT3 was never turbo
Looks to awesome in yellow!!!
Totally agree, standing water, torrential rain or slippery roads doesn't seem to phase it all thanks to the lack of weight. Also every gear change is a delight, not a chore. Just don't sound the horn like you nearly did a couple of times, it's comical.
Grey clouds with sunglasses, pure class!
Looking forward to the Corolla GR which should be out next year
Nice vlog. That yellow really pops and scenery is amazing on your driving road. Keep up the good work.
Glendevon to Gleneagles... Finest stretch of road (even better to start from Knockhill )
Saw a new one for the first time this week on the road. They look so great. Love the video mr JWW
They have a bit of road presence, especially from the front!
@@MrJWW and the rear, great booty! Lol
Wish we got these in the US
pick mine up next week after a month at the detailiers due to them being closed but can't wait to drive this weapon
0:15 - best shot of GR Yaris perhaps ever!
@Mr JWW - having lived in the area all of my days, I quickly recognised the bits filmed between Glendevon and Gleneagles, but the other locations - the B roads, and especially the one by a reservoir, and the building in the closing shot, have me and my friends beat - where were they?
To answer myself - Lower Glendevon reservoir! Never been there, though I must have passed the road end thousands of times.....
There are 2” risers on the seat rails. Cut them off and you’re good to go. Also, I wonder if you could stitch the interior plastic bits with pebbled leather?
Nice little missile didn't want to say pocket rocket. The opening music sound's like muse
I just wish we could get them here in the States. That color wrap looks so good it should be a factory option.
Id literally give up my first born child for this to be released in the us
@@iavila02 the problem is that most Americans think bigger is better.
Can you import them?
@@MrJWW, you can but you wouldn't be able to register one for road use. It would have to meet US specs for crash testing.
WedsSport wheels (lighter and much cheaper than OEM BBS), a set of mudflaps from Rallyflapz, maybe a set of Endless brake pads, a bigger intercooler and upgrading to an OIL Cooler (is a must). Then you're good to go for some real fun.
What’s going on with the project series?
Keep her lit mate 👌 🔥
The only thing I’d do to the Yaris is put a big cone air filter on it and listen to that little 3 cylinder roar, I know it doesn’t give extra power but it will sound epic, i wouldn’t tune it one bit, Toyotas experts have done an excellent job on it.
Amazing little car, seen these being made
Have you tried the North coast 500. Pure indulgence
Was considering this but instead kept Alpine A110.
Excellent watch.
Hi James, how does the GR Yaris compare to your previous S1? The stats sound quite similar.
GR is miles ahead - ignore the paper stats
It’s an interesting comparison but the weight is the biggest difference and a more playful chassis but interior quality not as good as S1
I feel spoilt with the backroads i have here in australia. Very impressed with the rate of speed youre carrying on those wet looking narrow roads, with what looks like loose gravel everywhere!
I am lucky enough to own one of these cars. It is simply astonishing.
If you’re thinking about getting one, don’t hesitate, you will not be making a mistake.
Personally, I love to sit higher up, better visibility and I feel safer, don’t understand why all the journalists whinge about it, to me, the seating position is perfect. My only complaint is that there is nowhere to put your phone or anywhere to put a mount.
Yeah what he said...ive had mine a month and that's my only gripe
Interesting comparison with the N20i!
it looks definitely good in yellow! Amazing car to drive until you need some storage 😆
Throw out the back seats or flip em and you’ll have more than enough storage. Who needs passengers in this car?
What a amazing little car to bad the usa 🇺🇸 market never seen them thanks toyota safe the good stuff for Europe in Japan
Just a great car... We need to enjoy them whilst we can👍😎
Can we get a Yaris gr vs Audi s1 vid please I think that would be a good video
Would be interesting!
The yellow wrap looks pretty awesome. I'm on the Pearl White, but def thinking about getting a wrap.
Thinking of changing the colour soon!
Impreza 22b blue with gold wheels
Hello James, i just really want to know your opinions about the Hyundai i-20 compare to this.
Not even comparable
Thought it was Motive Yaris at first
Driven a stock one and they are great fun, great drivers car. I have an rs3 saloon which would spank the stock one on straights and long winding bends, except down very twisty B roads.
Would be interesting to see how this fares against the new rs3 though. Nearly bought the Yaris gr at 300 a month but couldn’t justify having 5 cars especially during covid when I was hardly driving them
It's a very pretty hatch. An angry wasp indeed... but maybe more of the superheroine variety rather than the "bugger" of an insect.
Rock it man. 😉
Definitely need Imran at evolve automotive to hook you up with a eventuri intake
that would cost about 20k
Its a total rip-off.
£1200 for a intake, what jokers.
My favourite car 🔥
Another epic video , love your content ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks! 😎🏁
Best thing from toyota in a while
Would definitely buy it!
The more I see this GR YARIS, the more I start to like it. For 30k fun car, I’m sticking with my Abarth 124 Spider- which also has a rally counterpart. Closest thing to Ferrari vibes without having a prancing horse.
Yellow look fantastic
I like the fact it has mostly analogue dials 'n dash and a proper handbrake and it's small form factor. I love the styling of these and hope Toyota continue to make (export) these to the UK for a few years to come.
Do you know anything about Toyota's UK electrification plans for the future? As far as I am aware they haven't published any details yet.
I would like to acquire one new nearer to 2028 or thereabouts. Not sure about the price though, apart from 2 cars the main price at the moment seems to be circa £36k. Come 2028 who knows how much it will be then (£40k+ seems entirely plausible)
Too late I'm afraid - Toyota have sold all the units they wish to sell. Your only chance is to buy a used example
@@relentlesspursuit6894 Oh well, there will be something else to tempt one in the future I am sure. Thanks for the information though. I think by 2028 a 2nd hand example will be 'too old' but then again, who knows?
Another well made video keep up the good work
It's a great car and I am enjoying mine but am struggling to find things on it that I prefer to my Focus RS. FOCUS steering is better and more pointy, more playful, sounds far better, feels quicker....hmm.
Do love this Yaris but so far my Focus feels better although less special for not having carbon roof and wide arches etc.
Won’t have to worry about the Yaris grenading itself though compared to the RS. Mine went back to Ford 3 times in a year. Couldn’t wait to get rid as soon as the warranty expired. I can sleep easier at night with the GR and in my opinion is just as quick down a twisty B road and has even better handling than the RS. Do miss the exhaust note of the RS though.
I always wanted a mk3 Focus RS, used prices for them are strong though
What a beauty
It’s a lot of fun 😎🏁
FUN!!!
So much!
The jet ski analogy is great, good rally cars are like that. My Celica GT4 for example.
Imagine taking you 7 months for a first drive. I doubt we are ever going to see this car again
Suits the colour nice location 👍👍👍
Not a fan of yellow cars but must admit it suits the Yaris 🟡
RS3 Killer? Are you mad 😂😂
when your watch is more expensive than your car....
Did you try squeeze some kick backs?
Toyota launched the WRC Yaris at 2017 at Rally Monte Carlo. The GR Yaris came later
Slightly misinformed - the WRC car you mention was the old shape Yaris. Toyota created the GR from the ground up, it has absolutely nothing in common with the old WRC car other than the name - its totally new
I will never be over the fact that we don't get that here in the US
These are amazing, too bad they’re like 60k where I live so I’ll never pick this over any of the other options lol
Jammer he

i want to love the yaris so much, but i just can't get used to the look of it...
I was a bit put off by the looks to begin with. Usually takes me time to get use to some new designs. Got a black one and love it now. Looks cool and bad arse.
@@terryg1575 I have red and love it but they look best in black
Please compare it to a focus rs mk3
Why, they dont make a Focus RS anymore!
@@relentlesspursuit6894 because they now they can't beat the old one with the new regulations. And the development cost will be to high and it will bring their overall CO2 emissions up
@@stijnbogaerts1835 no point comparing a new car with a car that is no longer built. But FWIW the GR beats the Focus all day any day, the Mk3 Focus RS was a step backwards from the Mk2
@@relentlesspursuit6894 I am lucky enough to own both a GRY and a Focus RS Mk3 And no, the GR doesn't beat the Focus all day any day. Different cars, both excellent in their own way. 4WD a step backward from FWD? I think not. Mk3 was the first PROPER RS since the Escort Cosworth (I have one of them too). 😃
@@bert622 nah - the Mk2 is the one people want! As for RS vs GR - it's the GR any day of the week!
@4:08 taking that corner and going up over a cattle/livestock gap and past that bit of gravel like nobody's business. . . . .
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!
Keep er lit mate, say what they want, only guy that ever replied to me on RUclips and therefore to me, appeared sound as ….
Won’t ever see it in 🇨🇦…pity😂🍻!
Who did the wrap and what is the colour code for it? I absolutely love it. Sorry (not sorry), but I'm gonna get that done.
I hope Toyota see how good the car looks in yellow and makes it a standard colour on the Evo GR they're currently testing.
Take the rear seats out! 🎈
get it on a track then youll really know how far you can push it
Great review, love the enthusiasm - the car really is that good! I agree, on those roads in those conditions very few cars would keep up. Personally think the 30-34k is an absolute steal along with being a reasonably good investment (for a modern car)
£30k? More like £60k in Norway.. awesome..
