I hope that Maria behind bars scene will be in the movie, the cinematic power of the scene is incredible
I hope it wont be connected to silent hill 1 and 3. It was meant too not be connected to Alissa's story
But who is behind the bars? Maria, or James? ;)
@@NicNicoall I can imagine is that 'let me in' meme 😂
@@NicNicoit’s the evil version of the daughter from the first movie, this is a reused scene from the movie nothing new
It’s always good sign when the filmmakers actually respect, listen, and collaborate with the original vision of the game creators.
Gans wanted to do this more with the first movie (particularly he wanted to explore the history of the Order using info gathered from Silent Hill 2 and 3), but producers started meddling hard, especially with the third act.
Then he should put Harry Mason as the first film's main character than changing to Rose.
@@joeofmacabre07 Konami f**ked up relationships with the actor who played Harry so...
Cyberpunk 2077 intensifies
When they respect the games, why then did they shoot the second movie??
As Christophe Gans explained in a French interview one or two months ago, the shoots of the movie is planned to start on February, the 20th. So it is currently in the state of preproduction. That's why you only see storyboards and artworks for the moment. In this interview, Christophe Gans also had explained he will have a more psychological approach on this movie, which he confirmed here.
The right direction I think after so long he will make improvements.. Silent hill with radha etc was great to see in the cinema.. A few blips.. but that pay off at gore at the end was what I went for..definitely the director to get people interested again.
Okay, so they really shouldn't be calling it a teaser trailer
can you send a link to the interview?
I don't want them to rush the production after almost a decade of absence of SH next sequel. It's okay to take even a longer time to develop. Now that SH has risen from the ashes after almost 8 yrs since the cancellation of P.T., the movie's production can be greenlit as well, but better later so they could take more time than being rushed to pander to movie fans, resulting in terrible final product, like SH: Revelation back in 2012.
Hopefully, they also did NOT _Reboot_ it from the scratch; there's a lot of potential to tell more stories of Rose, Christopher, Sharon/Alessa and Dahlia to be wrapped up.
@@mohamadafifazizizaidi5625 The movie production is already greenlit by now. Since long ago actually. But the shoot itself will start in February. Before shooting, there's a long work of preproduction. That doesn't mean the project isn't greenlit yet. It's just a necessary step of the long process of producing a movie.
What a time to be Silent Hill fan :')

Broke out the steak and wine to celebrate! I’ve waited for this day for years at this point, honestly still can’t believe they’re bringing it back

I'm already excited for this. The first film wasn't perfect, but the vision and artistry was.
The first silent hill movie was a cinematic master to all videos games that turned into movies
@@Strawbrryash yeah
@@Strawbrryash I agree 100%
The first film was great!
I agree. First film was so enjoyable. I'm excited about Return to Silent Hill too.
I did NOT expect him to adapt the second game! So excited!
For me it is the MUSIC that is so important. The soundtrack. They must utilise Laura and Maria's themes etc
I can't believe Silent Hill is making a comeback. Of all the news, the movie is the one that excited me the most.
the transparency konami and the film crew are giving to us is really enthralling. to hear people working on the movie so passionate about it, whilst showing a lot of the conceptual stage that is often swept under the rug in film is way more exciting than more conventional trailers. can’t wait !!!
so psyched about this. The first understood the atmosphere of the game like very few video game movies do. It FELT like silent hill, the music, the set pieces, the creatures, it was all on point
The first SH movie was a masterpiece.
Completely agree , it was a very underrated film , it did have some flaws but for me its one of my favorites. It understood the essence and core of what makes a Silent hill story and I'm sure he'll do SH2 justice with this sequel. I hope they use practical effects like they did in the first one and use CGI only where necessary.
@kosmosrebell YOU come up with the story then! If you think it wasn’t great then how would YOU have done it or are you so lazy that you demand to have it spoonfed to you?
Too many game movies are just that: games reimagined as movies and the directors don’t understand what made the games so interesting so they don’t try to recreate that feeling. The original film had every element the games did but adapted: the main character was almost completely alone the whole movie, there were clues to find and puzzles to solve. Not everyone lived and the effects were mostly practical using dancers, contortionists, puppets and only using CG to enhance them. I didn’t even know that until a few weeks ago! All this time I had thought the effects were cheesy cgi
Just say it...a story without Silent Hill's soul being praised as the best videogame movie ever made is the most absurd thing in the 21st century.
I like how nobody talked about the disaster of a second film that was already made lol
What second movie? There was never a second movie. It never happened. Shut up.
2nd movie turned to resident evil movie
I noticed that as well lol! I’m also curious to see how they get around some of the breaks in lore that they did in the first movie. They really jacked up their chances for a continuation of the first movie by going directly into silent hill three by monkeying with the lore and story. I’ll be honest I’m really worried about what they’re going to do to silent Hill two considering it is by far my favorite of the franchise.
I’m sure you noticed they mentioned “modernizing“ the story more than once. That has me extremely worried.
Because the second movie was so bad , that even Konami forgot about it.Sometime is better to forget something that is really bad ;].
Cash grab not made by the same person
If the movie Silent Hill was directed by Guillermo Del Toro, it would definitely win an Oscar because the plot is already great
I think that, despite not being a masterpiece, the first Silent Hill movie is to this day the best game adaptation to movie. The atmosphere, the monsters, the story, it was all there and it was pretty good for a 2006 movie. I´m happy this guy is getting another shot.
You just appreciate when someone vomits in your plate and says "it's your favorite adaptation"
Except for the story and the characters. Sorry, but in it's core it has nothing to do with the story of the game.
It may appear like it from the outside. But that is about it.
The 2006 Silent Hill and 1995 Mortal Kombat are the best game adaptation to date. Sonic was pretty good too
totally agree
@@suiken3149 well said, i also liked those two movies, specially Sonic, it had no business being good at all, it should have been a trainwreck. Very pleasant surprise.
The first film was one of the most beautifully atmospheric films I’ve seen.
Being a huge fan of film, studying it as my focus in school, and owning a massive library (much of which is sci fi, horror, or a mix of the two) I can say with confidence that I’ve seen most of the great films that are considered “the most aesthetically pleasing to look at”.
For me, Silent Hill is right up there with Danny Boyle’s “Sunshine”, Tarsem’s “The Fall”, Garland’s “Annihilation”, Ridley’s “Blade Runner”/“Kingdom of Heaven”/“Prometheus”, Lean’s “Lawrence of Arabia”, Villenueve’s “BR 2049”, Inarritu’s “The Revenant”, Cosmatos’ “Mandy”/“Beyond the Black Rainbow”, and many more I’m forgetting.
Silent Hill is right alongside them.
And that made me discover one of the most underrated films I’ve ever seen… Brotherhood of the Wolf. Which made me so excited to see where Gans’ career would lead.
And then nothing. I was so disappointed. Selfishly, I mean.
I’m so happy he is helming this film. It may not get the budget it deserves, but if anyone can recreate the atmosphere on a shoestring, it’s Gans. Lfg
If the movie Silent Hill was directed by Guillermo Del Toro, it would definitely win an Oscar because the plot is already great
"Everything has been washed away in 15 years"
Yep, Silent Hill Revelations
It seems like for once, they are working with source material. With that in mind, this will already be 100% better than the junk that's been adapted as of late.
Good luck to the Silent Hill team!!
Oh shut up. The first Silent Hill movie(2006) was pretty good. You're just sad that it wasn't a carbon copy of the first game. 🙄
Given this is the same guy who directed the 2006 film, I wouldn't hold my breath. It will probably be just as mediocre.
@@ReluctantWarrior Lots of Silent Hill fans like the first movie. Aside from the gender-bent Harry, it was visually pretty close and they somehow managed to made sense of the convoluted plot of Silent Hill 1. He also didn't shy away from gore. That last sequence was awesome. He didn't make the second movie, which was trash.
The first silent Hill movie has changes in the story, but its still about alessa.
The first silent Hill movie has changes in the story, but its still about alessa.
Christophe Gans did an amazing job with the first one. The atmosphere made it an unforgettable experience for me as a kid. The sirens.. the monsters.. the dope soundtrack. So excited for this next film.
They seem to be pretending that the sequel film 'Silent Hill: Revelation' never happened. I can definitely understand why they would do this, hahaha.
I watch Revelation as a movie fan and "Oh this is an alternate universe and not at all canon." I want to see who they cast as sunderland
While I have some issues with the first movie, I cannot deny that it got a lot of things right. It felt like a lot of people really tried with that one, so I'm glad it's got some of the same people back again. Best of luck to the team.
Please do as many practical effects as possible!!
Huge props to the film crew bringing in the og creators for creative blessings
I hope they stick with the majority practical effects from the 2006 film, it really looked amazing. This is all pretty good news.
Mr Gans really knows how to point a camera and shoot. I'm hopeful with the story as a solid framework for the script, this will be an awesome movie for the fans and the unwashed. Good luck to the team!
Can't wait to see the hotel and other parts of the game adapted on the big screen! Also looking fwd to his forthcoming FATAL FRAME/Project Zero film!
there is a fatal frame movie
@I'm Spiderman Yes, Gans is also working on the movie adaptation of Fatal Frame/Project Zero.
He said it more than once and gave details.
The Fatal Frame/Project Zero movie that was released in 2014 was a side story, but I believe this one will adapt one of the game's story, or at least re-imagine it and probably will be close to the source material.
I still did like the existing Fatal Frame/Project Zero movie.
@I'm Spiderman
Yes, it's true.
It is true that director Gans has said that he will make a Fatal Frame movie in parallel with the Silent Hill movie.
And since it will be set in Japan, it will be even closer to the game!
@@shibitoobscura3348
The Japanese production of ZERO is a completely different movie, though.
Frankly, I'm not sure I'd be subtle about it.
That's why I have very high expectations for director Gans.
I don't think there is a director who is as good as Gans when it comes to making a live-action video game movie.
@@user-jq9bo5ot6l Yes, it is a side story, that is not directly related to the games themselve, but I personally think it has a smiliar "feel" than the game. And I know this is very, very unpopular opinion, but I do consider it a good video game movie because it made me feel emotions that were close to the ones I felt when playing the Zero / Project Zero / Fatal Frame games. It moved me in a pretty similar way than the Zero games did, which I why I actually love this movie.
That said, I agree with Christophe Gans being a good choice to adapt this series into a vido game, as he overflows with this passion and love for these franchises (both Silent Hill and Project Zero / Fatal Frame). So I trust he will make a great and interesting job for both.
Looks like it's gonna stay so true to the second game and I couldn't be happier. Probably more excited about this than the new games!
Silent Hill from 2006 is my favorite video game movie adaptation, I'm very excited that Christophe Gans is coming back!
Even though the first films didn't match the original setting, i think of them as the best videogame adaptations.
So good luck with this new interpretation, i'm looking forward to it!
The First One was and still Is a gem and One if not the best video game adaptation out there. I feel the second movie Lost it's vision and i believe was plagued by budget issues and plot problems. With this new movie and the original Director's return i believe they can make something interesting
They're pretty terrible, but then again I can't think of a single good video game based movie 🤔
@@endless_limes i hate to say this but Sonic
Also, first SH movie wasnt that bad, its just fine.., the good thing is how they put much feeling from video game to movie

Thank you for not acknowledging the traversty that is Silent Hill 2, the first movie is not perfect but it's a good adaptation, happy to see Christophe respect the source material and i love that he is leaning more into psychological horror.
That's a very great step Konami! I really want this to work.. I've always loved the Silent Hill movie, not for the movie, but for the silent hill vibes.
These story boards give me goosebumps.....almost all of those are lifted directed from cut scenes from silent hill 2
I'm just glad Christoph ganz is returning as director ...I thought he done a phenomenal job with the first film capturing the feel and essence of the game ....
These films needed more recognition. Can't wait for them to expand on things like this.
Films? Plural? You really think Silent Hill: Revelations 3D is deserving of anything but ridicule? The first one is great for the atmosphere that it created, and Rhada Mitchel really carried the movie, but the second one was trash. You can even tell with how little effort they put into the costumes and set design. It looked like a cheap community-run halloween attraction where none of the unpaid actors wanted to actually be there lol and it's even worse because they were all paid so much.
It's perfectly fine if you enjoyed the second movie, but you cannot deny that it's legitimately horrible and hard to watch cheap and low production quality and a disjointed and butchered storyline with sporadic and predictable scenes. The final fight was okey but not worth the whole movie and it's really just hard to watch and not entertaining for me.
What a time to be alive 🎥
Dude I love Maria's character design, I really really can't wait to see it. Hopefully I'll like it, my god.
I watch silent hill movie 1 more than 10 times, its get hype for me
I've seen it about 4 times, can't change the channel if it's on
silent hill 1 followed and reminded you of what you saw in silent hill for the ps1 . you gotta love movies made after games that follow it closely. if silent hilll was a preview of return to silent hill . then im alll for it
As a lifelong Silent Hill fan, I couldn´t be happier right now! Mr. Gans did an excellent, perfect job with the first film. It was an amazing good looking movie, visually inspirational even to other horror movies. I´ve watched the movie countless times. I have my reservations with some choices made by the screenwriters to some story elements back then, but I can´t imagine a better person to adapt and direct James and Mary´s story to the big screen. A happy day to all Silent Hill fans, indeed!
For an after credits scene please add the Dog ending.
Pretty please 😊
This is the way
or at least a nod to it, like james passing by the door and hearing beeping noises
In upstate new york, when it snows windlessly, the snow drifts down gently, the world around you closes in, the sounds from afar disappear into a muted silence, while those around close to you come into focus. your breath. your heart beat. the crushing of snow under your boots. there is an eerie beauty to those moments of solitude, whilst out in the open. The first movie captured that feeling so well. i remember watching the movie in the dead of winter, trapped indoors, a frigid solitude lingering outside the windows, the beauty and rustle of autumn leaves, so pretty in the finger lakes region, a long gone memory into the abyss of winter. perhaps it is a memory of a moment in time that has passed, never to return. or perhaps a moment that persists through generations. i do hope the new film will feel just as good, and bring back those fond memories, because some things during that time were very, very perfect. and silent hill was one of those things. no pressure. :)
Say what you want about the 2005 film. It felt super faithful to the games in terms of atmosphere, tone, and lore. People wanted an adaptation of silent hill 2 i guess, but the 2005 film did its best to adapt the first one while still trying to be refreshing and new but still respectful of the franchise.
You want to see the exact opposite, watch any of the recent resident evil movies.
Ganz did a great job and respected the fans imo.
i cannot believe its been a year till now im hearing they are making a movie im really excited for this!!!
They NAILED the look and eeriness of the first film. Incredible work. You pair that with the amazing story of Part 2, they could make a masterpiece. All comes down to directing and budget.
4:55 "But at the same time for me it was important to come back with a suprise"
That where they f...ed up the movie
Silent Hill 2 is a masterpiece of a game. Hopefully they can do it justice bringing to movie.
The problem with this is that a lot of ideas for the first movie were based around the second game and less the first game, such as monsters, locations, some themes, and elements. You can’t just use the same director and act like the first movie didn’t happen because it had a bit of success and people did see it. This would create a mess with differentiating between the two ideas, especially if you’re someone who doesn’t know anything about Silent Hill.
People can praise the first movie all they want...but that doesn’t negate the strong creative liberties this man took to create “his version” of Silent Hill and not what the game actually was:
* Drastic changes to nearly all of the characters
* Significant plot points changed to fit Gans’ misunderstanding of the plot
* None of the monsters had anything to do with this story; they were used because Gans either wanted to make his own or liked Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill is more than just “an atmosphere” like people love to say. It also tells a story and uses the environments to tell that story - this movie did not do that. It just threw on a foggy and industrial aesthetic and people called it Silent Hill because of that. People see the fog and industrial placebo and think that is Silent Hill.
I'm so glad to be alive right now. There are so many amazing games, tv shows, and movies coming out this decade!
Don't hold your breath, this one is likely to be a stinker. If they can get it right I will be happy to be wrong but I don't trust this director after what he did with SH1. There's a dang good reason pyramid head wasn't supposed to be in that movie.
I think its important to get the ambience and the feel of the town right. I would picture something like the movie "the shining", that really gave us an impression of the hotel as a living evil, a mystery. The movie "The thing" also did ambience well. The same needs to be done for silent hill. As with all great art, you are left with more questions than answers, what the game got right was the mystery of what you are presented with, e.g. "there was a hole here, its gone now", finding the dead bodies, the scene with pyramid head in the apartment building. Then there was the other characters, and how they developed and becoming more unhinged(especially eddie) during the story. I particularly love the Maria story and how she subtily tests James and becomes his means of punishment. I also love the James' moral wrestling, suicide, find redemption and leave? or indulge in sensual pleasure and learn nothing? This does raise questions as to what ending the movie will go with.
When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you
This is such an interesting project, Silent Hill 2 is a true gem and it would be nice to see it being revisited and adapted with a lot of care and respect. One point that caught my attention, is when they talk about the experience of watching the film alone vs together, in relation to modern technologies. While it is true that watching a movie in a big screen, with your friends, is an unique and enjoyable experience, it would be more interesting if there was special attention to the experience of watching at home. Specially with Silent Hill 2, where the actions taken during the game can alter the outcome of the story in such interesting ways, it would be awesome if they added some clever interactive options (like it's done in some Netflix titles) that lead to different scenes and endings, just like the game. Maybe there could be different releases in theaters vs at home, and/or between different streaming platforms. If done right this could be truly epic, and make this film stand the test of time, just like the original game. I really hope the filmmakers consider this idea.
So looking forward to Return to silent hill, played SH2 when it first came out, still playing now, the HD Collection on the Xbox, this looks so awesome, plus still watch the first 2 SH films, love them, cant wait to add this to my collection.
I've always thought since playing silent hill 2 game, if they ever did a silent hill 2 movies, Cameron Diaz would have made a great Maria. Then years later I saw a picture comparison. Very uncanny resemiblence. Can't wait for new movie.
This story has great potential to get 9+ rating monsters, nurses 🕷s and eggy nests and and weapons, the most importantly story owns a grims music.
The first movie is one of my all time favorites. Please Konami, give Gans full creative control!
Silent hill's movie had one thing above most game movies: it got to tone and atmosphere right, and it felt like they had something they wanted to show--I could feel the love. The story and character's werent right and it was a little wonky, but he understood it and I ended up feeling like it was an AU, rather than a direct adaptation. The way it worked was different but the feeling of silent hill was there and it was so fun to watch. I'm not gonna expect this movie to be silent hill 2, the movie, but I do think the director will create something he cares about, just as he did the first time--looking forward to it.
Honestly the first Silent Hill movie was pretty good aside from some hiccups along the way, easily one of the best horror game adaptations around with imagery and music straight from the games. So hopefully since they get a second chance, they'll learn from what didn't work (like making Silent Hill about witch hunting for some reason) and make an even better adaptation.
It's nice to have a film by the original director from the 1st silent hill movie which was actually not a bad of a movie when you compare to stuff that has some out since
Can't wait for this...
R E L E A S E !!!
📽️📽️📽️
They've got a romantic twist to it. It makes the ending of the original game that much more tragic.
I think silent hill should be a TV show.
If I produced a silent hill TV show I would have it be an adaptation of room, homecoming and downpour simultaneously and rotate between them, also have alternative ending episodes. And I do this on purpose to keep it disorientating. Because what the old movies missed the mark on was that bad trip feeling.
. But not as many alternative versions of an episode as the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya, they had 6 versions of the exact same episode
And maybe add a chose your own adventure Component
I absolutely loved the first Silent Hill movie! I would love to see a sequel. I so hope this goes forward.

While Silent Hill 2 is undoubtedly the best Silent Hill game, and is arguably the best horror game of all time, and is personally my favourite game of all time, I think Silent Hill 3 has the best line of dialogue in the franchise.
"They look like monsters to you?"
It's so refreshing to hear that! I hope they don't change too much, even though I'm looking forward to seeing new things. I'm selfishly particular about silent hill 2 as it was thr very first game given to me of the franchise and I love it. Strangely, it helped me through a tough time in my teen yrs. Then I got the games and the soundtracks...I am extremely excited. The other films were great in their own way. The first being the better for me. It had that silent hill feel (probably coz they used the game soundtrack) fingers crossed!!!!! For a decent homage to a very much loved game
Guys do you want a real Silent Hill movie? Then just watch Jacob's Ladder (1990) directed by Adrian Lyne with Tim Robbins, Ving Rhames, Elizabeth Peña and...
If done right, the storyline to Silent Hill 2 will make for one of the craziest psychological horror movies ever made.
I definitely think this one will be perfect I think he has learned from his mistakes. He was worried last time about making silent hill 2 in 2008 because he wanted it to be perfect.
I’ve just realised, you could revisit the first film’s narrative because Harry’s wife is still in Silent Hill. You can use the Second Game’s narrative but with the old characters. Of course I’m not sure if I’d want to see that over a straight adaptation.
I LOVE the fact, that they don't even mention or consider discussing, the abomination of a sequel called Silent Hill Revelation.
Glad they did not talk about Revelation like it didn't exist lol
Was thinking the same thing XD
I wish it is erased
I'm happy they're finally making another movie

Mr.Gan is the only one that can make a squeal of Silent Hill 2006 that is worth watching. Exacted for what he has instore for us! Maybe More of the monsters form the second game.
To make it MODERN. I already feel the chills.
Silent Hill 2006 is the best game adaptation ever made.People used to say that there is no good movie based on the game. There is !.Silent Hill and Prince of Persia
Cant wait for the new Silent Hill because the director is the same.He is a very good visionary director.
Ps.Ryan Gosling would be the best for this role
I much prefer a new story with the prince without the dagger in a new prince of persia movie.
i really really really hope that everything they are saying here is just not a hoax
please keep it close to original and trust me the glory will come and yes pyramid head and nurses are not to be twisted into a modern light

I ADORED Christophe Gans' Silent Hill!!
I am so exited about this!!!
All I want to know is are they going with the DOG ending?
UFO most likely
The original Silent Hill film is probably one of the best video game to movie adaptations (yes, I know the bar is low). They did an excellent job in executing the atmosphere of the town, to the point where even the games took inspiration from the movie in how they transition to the Other World. They did take a lot of liberties with the story, but I wasn't upset with those changes.
The 2nd film was awful, I hope this turns out nothing like that.
The second film had different Director and writers
I'd be down to watch a 3-4 hour silent hill movie
I loved the movies and I am so excited for Mr. Gans to return.
This is how show runners should treat the fan's and the IP. Not one of them called the fan's toxic or a bigot. I'm looking forward to this.
Christopher Gans is a very talented director, I'm glad he's back
Wow can’t wait to watch it …. The first movie was really good 👏🏻
Please let it be long like over 2 hours 30 minutes maybe let it play out the entire events of the game but even more spine chilling
I really hope they look towards the stylistic influences that contributed to the game. The films of David Lynch and Fincher in particular. As alright as the 2006 film was, it was missing this. It felt like just a video game movie, instead of a true artistic cinematic experience.
This. What you said. You get it.
I'm not even joking, building the world visually is easy, but get a script that shows the person cares and isn't just out to tackle the tropes of character or moment. You could hold such a following and mastery if you focus on one game and find a good script. That's all it takes. Silent Hill isn't like Resident Evil with recurring characters the recurring character is the town itself. You could write any character at all design monsters that would haunt them. But it doesn't mean a thing if it's just being made to bank off gamers who want justice and the non-gamers who are made curious by the genre or trailer. 🙏
Your right he is a fan and I think he has learned from his mistakes from the first film. I hope this remake is good.
