I played the game after i watched the movie. Alot of the movie was just pieces from the game that didn't fit the context. Hence the criticism. The movie was great before I realised it
@@44Renegade44 because it's much harder to literally act with costume and make a set, than to just put green screens and motion controls and just cgi it
One of the most underrated horror movies of the last 20 years. And I'm amazed at how everything seems like it was shot on location, in real buildings and real outdoor locations. Almost nothing looks like a sound stage to my admittedly untrained eye, and there's almost no green screens being used. A Marvel movie this was NOT.
Movie is a dish, practical effects are meat and CGI is seasoning. If there's only meat, then it's going to be unhealthy, if You too much seasoning, You will destroy the taste. It's all about right harmony. CGI should be used only in situation in which practicals can't be used. Look at Batman Begins for an example. There were plenty of practical effects and miniatures used, CGI was used just in fewer scenes. Same goes for Mad Max: Fury Road - almost all of the chase scenes were done practically and later on enhanced with CGI.
story i disagree, it wasn't faithful to the games. Pyramid Head is only meant to be James Sunderland's manifestation. Also Harry Mason was replaced with Rose over the director thinking that a man trying to save his daughter is too "feminine".
Before I had no idea that the armless/faceless monster near the scrapyard on the road was played by an actual person. Just the way it was moving, I thought that it had to be a special effect. Ofcourse apart from the acid spitting, I thought the monster was artificially created. It made it even creepier knowing it was a person, who couldn't see a thing, and needed directions on where to go xD
The director is huge fan of the franchise and you can pretty much tell. The movie is a visual masterpiece. However Sony felt the need to force him to change the plot which is why so many fans (justified) didn't like it so much. However, despite that, it's the best movie adaptation I've seen that was based on a game.
in horror movies, the monster waits for you in the darkness. In silent hill, the monster is naked, in the middle of the street 26:44 brilliant analogy and true, part of the reason I love silent hill monsters
People rip it apart too easily. They’re so concerned with its alignment to the games. I loved this movie, even though I’m a gamer - I never even tried to look at it as an appendage of the game timeline and if it’s canon. It was fantastic on its own :)
@@MsBrynnElizabeth This movie is what introduced me to the first 4 games (by Team Silent). If the first movie caused me nightmares for a few days back in 2006, then i could *hardly* sleep at all playing the games afterwards.
One of those movies that left great impact on me (*SPOILER* including my boundless contempt for witch hunters and those who participated in witch trials), I still can't belive that it has so little attention from public. Not only it is a very decent horror by itself, but it is one of the few good movie interpretations of video game
I didn't really get into the games until this movie came out. Then it must of click in my head and I started to enjoy the games! I remember renting the first one, and was like.. "This is boring! Where do I go? What do I do?!?" And returned it back to Blockbuster. ..Now I can watch people talk about, play the games.. and I'm fully invested! one of my favorite movies of all time. it was so incredibly well done, i could talk about it for ages. the amount of detail and effort put into it is so incredible.
It was announced in the Silent Hill Transmission they did announcing their plans for the series. The new movie will have the same director as the first one.
I love stuff like this i love the behind the scenes on movies or video games when i watch the movie i was like wow this is really nice its not bad but i like it im new to silent hill series so this movies music was something else i wish we can made movies like these again
i loved the SH movies. people who criticize it is like the parent who doesnt say GOOD JOB to the kid that puts a lot of effort in what they do. instead they say "not good enough"
This was by far some of the best video game adaptations i have ever seen. I still remember watched this as a kid during the scene where the air siren went off and the pyramid head chassing people running into the Church and then he caught a woman and ripped her skin off then threw at the door was freakin brutal and terrified me, so much so that i still remember that scene now at 27 lmao.
Although we think this film is much inferior to the game, it still manages to be one of the best cinematic adaptations of a video game. Compared to any other adapted franchise, especially horror ones like Resident Evil, this film did a great job.
I pretty much put the RE movies into their own little box - tangentially related to the series, but otherwise is a (badly done) alternate-universe retelling.
ah! :) i remember watching this on the dvd extras. at the time, my entire family was scared and miserable because my dad had lost his job and he spent all day watching horror movies that we rented from the library and i picked out this one because i had played silent hill 3 and loved it and I loved this movie too
I prefer to see the making of horror movies before I watch them because I'm such a coward. If it gets to scary I just think about the making of them and it hits home more that it's only clever actors and special effects etc etc
@JordansGamingChannel I only watch Silent Hill: Revelation because of Heather actress, Adelaide Clemens, who tried her best to deliver her performance, which i personally like, in otherwise badly written script; which is shame that she's the _only_ saving grace in the terrible movie which is an awful sequel to the underratedly better first film.
@JordansGamingChannel Yes, i torture myself to watch the sequel just for Miss Clemens, she *tried* . Shame on the director and the studios. What a disappointing sequel with too many retcons and continuity errors that contradict the first film. Edit: Which becomes more sad that the upcoming 3rd titled "Return to Silent Hill" by Christophe Gans (director of first movie) will be a 'soft reboot that (maybe..) *retconned* the events of Revelation nonexistent.
@@mohamadafifazizizaidi5625 Well, if it will retcon the terrible second movie and will have the qualities of the first one (Christophe Gans directing it), that's not that sad. All fans of the first movie can pretend the second one was just an ugly nightmare xD

I remember first hearing this was in production and learning Cristophe Gans was directing it and I about lost my shit. I had only recently at that point seen Brotherhood of the Wolf and was hooked on his directorial style.
The costumes and set design for this were awesome, but none of these creatures make any sense in the context of the story which is why it deserves the poor ratings that it got. what made silent hill good was that the manifestations were birthed from the mind of the doomed and had deep personal significance to the character. The producers didn't understand that and turned Silent hill into a generic "monster movie". These were James Sunderland's demons that made no sense to characters in this movie.

It's so weird to see the nurse with face😂 also the lying creature looks funny behind the scenes. Don't get me wrong, I really love those scenes, that's tons of works and really amazing!
As Movie i liked to watch it...but if you think about the Symbolism of Things, you will Figure out that Pyramid Head was kinda wrong in it...for my understanding Pyramid Head was a Phallic Symbol for James Sunderlands unfulfilled needs...
They make it like hell and the creatures are from original games but they twist it with like they're once human but this is the punishment for their sins the outcome they become these creatures. I like the experimentation of the movie. Plus its a different kind of media so its fine for me.
Honestly even as a SH movie it isn’t great. When you play SH2 for example, you often associate the music with certain moods and events and then when they are played in the movie in a scene completely disconnected from the original place the song appears, both in tone and what is actually happening, it is quite offputting, and not in a good way.
They used pyrotechnics to simulate her pyrokinesis ability. When he removes the plate, it looks like she conjures fire as the appearing light from the flame makes it look like the place is set ablaze.
I don't care what critics say. This movie does a great job at capturing the mood and environment of the game.
plenty of the critics havent even experienced playing the game at all 😆
