I tried it and its absolutely delicious!! I boiled the tomatoes then toasted the vegetables in a regular none stick pan,Then added everything in a blender. Amazing results!
Beautiful description of a typical hispanic kitchen. Molcajete style has a different flavor because ingredients are mashed, and not cut. Brings out more flavor and natural sweetness. Very impressive.
Whenever I make food that’s from a different culture than mine I constantly look for traditional recipes. I really appreciate sharing your kitchen with all of us
I'd made some spinach dip for my grand daughter and her Hispanic boyfriend thought it was horrid so I told him next time I made that dip for her I'd make salsa for him. I made your salsa recipe and sent it over. That night I got a call from her boyfriend. "um I have a question, are you sure you don't have any Mexican in you?" He couldn't believe anybody who wasn't Mexican could make a salsa that good. High praise indeed.
Hai, Till now I thought Salsa was just a type of dance. You and your salsa dip look great, looking forward to cooking a salsa dip and proving what you said. Thank You...
This is so amazing to watch. I’m from India. There are so many similarities between Mexican and Indian cuisines yet so different! We use “okli” like that mocajete... and those earthen pots are our favs in many homes that are still traditional ❤️ I love it when the world bonds over food and music!! I’d love to see more recipes from you! For sure
My parents & my siblings lived in Chicago Illinois in the 70's. They nieghbor ladies always came over to learn how to make salsa & mexican dishes. I didn't know at that time my mom made money. She sold her sauces and some food. I personally didn't like salsa. But I like making it for my son who loves Mexican salsa. Thank you for your video.
I've been making and canning my own salsa for 20 years. Actually since I was in high school I got obsessed with it because I didn't like onion in my Salsa and the only way I could have salsa without onion was to make my own. Then I started learning how to can it to preserve it. I've never done a mortar and pestle Style salsa and I'm really excited to try it. Thank you
This is the best salsa recipe i have ever had! It took a long time to cure the molcajete but i am very glad that i took the time to do it and try this recipe. The flavor and texture of handmade salsa is unbelievable if you have never had it, and this recipe is so easy to follow. Thank you so much for sharing!
I never knew you were supposed to cook the ingredients first no wonder mine have been so bland tasting! I love hearing the stories of your childhood! It makes your food feel like they’re out of my cherished memories, too ♥️
Lovely recipe. So true, Colombian here…I grew up learning in the kitchen with my mom, grandma and aunts. Such amazing moments I will treasure. Thank you for sharing!
For a central european like me who only knew store bought 'salsa' from the international section of my supermarket i have to say this is a game changer. The charred version especially tastes amazing ❤
Yum, thank you! Salsa is literally my favorite food in the world. When I was a kid, me and a friend would sit outside and eat a whole bag of chips with salsa. Always takes me back to those days when I was almost never indoors!
Yummy;! I love the salsa! I smoked two ribs , one on the pellet grill, and one on my Weber grill . After about two hours in oh ya I had the ribs in a foil boat with beer 🍺 for moisture, then I opened the fridge and found this big jar of salsa, sorry 😢 store bought. But still good , so I smothered my ribs with the salsa , few hours later ! Best ribs ever! Thanks again!!!
i still say your husband is lucky he knows i hope it looks so good , Ill try that one out for sure, thanks for sharing, 3 years ago omg finally I see this one thanks again
I implore everyone who hasn't done it before or that isn't in a rush. USE the molcajaete, you will notice a different level of flavor and consistency compared to blending it. Saludos!
Yeah I agree. I tried it again this year with the blender, then went back to the molcajaete. I also like to add as much blackened skins as I can. This is such a great recipe and it's so healthy.
I'm actually going to try that way. I'm Romanian and I have in my kitchen what we call a mojar which looks quite similar to the molcajaete and we usually use it for grinding garlic and making sauce because, as you say, it makes a certain flavor come out. It's funny because I have that in my kitchen but I will have to go to a big supermarket to find a jalapeno as we have different types of hot peppers here. haha
@@sunsetstore77 you gotta find the authentic ones! The real ones are made out of volcanic rock! Pretty sure it's bits and pieces of the rock coming off that make it taste different 😂🔥

Yes, theres something about the course lava rock of a molcajete that brings out the flavors of the ingredients without mincing them up too finely. My mom brought one back from Mexico City in 1978 and she still has it. That sucker has some seasoning on it.
I wonder if the acid in the tomatoes is slightly breaking down the stone, or the grinding of the mortar against the pestle would also grind some of that stone into powder? would explain the change in flavor...
Yes, ladies this is actually Real homemade salsa and no it's not Pace PICANTE or something similar of the sorts, but this is the best authentic way of doing it and knowing the culture. seeing the similarities with other cultures is amazing! in the Dominican republic they use a similar thing like the molcajete, it's called Pilon, and it's made from wood, in it we mash everything that needs mashing, from garlic to spices, it's used for everything! there is not a Dominican home where you won't find a pilon carefully tucked away in the corner of the kitchen. love your channel.
Villa, that's just what I needed TO know in my recipes thank you as soon as I get off the road I'm going to go home and cook that oh, and I love what you have said it is a part of Who You Are
Ok, I just did this recipe. I had to combine both methods. Used an iron frying pan to dry cook the onions and garlic. Worked out ok. Boiled the tomato and jalapeno pepper, rather blanched the tomatoes, but the jalapeno ended up in the frying pan, then everything in the blender with a bit of salt and chopped up some cilantro from the garden. Definitely a different kind of salsa taste, really authentic. Love it. Just put it in the fridge. Will head out and get some chips to have with dinner tonight. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Wonderful taste

For sure and the beauty of salsa is that the combinations are endless...so many different type of tomatoes and peppers to use you can char boil or even use them raw and just play with different combinations like you can char the tomatoes and peppers and leave the onion and garlic raw and the flavor component changes completely
Next time after you are done making hot sauce drop it in a pan with a little flour then cook keep mixing for a few minutes until you see the colors change a little darker. You will have ranchero sauce, will be the best thing you have ever had. You can add to anything also great with tortilla chips.

Hi. I ended up using my cast iron fry pan. And my hand held blender after everything was chard but oiled my pan 1st. Turnout out soo good. Thank you. Will be making this again for sure. Everything I used was from our community garden used green red and yellow peppers along with with everything elsewhere oh and fresh celery raw. ✌🏾
Listening to you, your heritage and how your mom made the tortilla with Queso Fresco brought me back home smelling the aroma of mom making fresh Tortillas butter -queso fresco hot off the grill, Bunuelos, Meu Dues !
Thank you for the wonderful recipe! I need to get a molcajete! The better flavor from them comes because bruising an herb or vegetable does a better job of extracting aromatic flavors than chopping them, because it sort of smashes open all of the plant cells instead of only cutting open the ones that happen to be under the edge of the knife. Sometimes people will bruise herbs like mint or basil by sort of slapping them before using them, which works the same way.
I always crush my Mexican oregano between my fingers before using it. I thought crushing was to enhance the aromatic properties but I see that it also enhances flavour.
This looks delicious! I can’t wait to try this recipe out. I really enjoyed the story about your mom’s cooking. Thank you for sharing part of your culture! ☺️

Guacamole comes out best when crushed in a molcajete with the other ingredients. Food processors dont cut it.
I think it’s because the stone carries flavor over uses much like a cast iron skillet.
It's something the blender can't do 👌

Thank you so much for sharing your heritage. So many people these days want to make everyone the same. I don't want to live in a pastel world. I will be making this tomorrow!
How did it turn out?
I’d drank a gallon of that salsa

The first salsa was the best gracias por el video🙌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽
Your husband's a lucky man. A beautiful wife that can cook and she's humble , priceless. 😎
