I dont know how mine is still alive it's taken several falls from my hand or car door one time was screen first onto the edge of a rock cliff. I had a screen protector that kept it from scratching on the rocks but I'm still surprised it didnt even crack.
Is it just me who finds the pen stupid? Like if you want drawing capability market an accessory which uses a bendy / rollup oled screen + pen. Like if you're going to copy apple on their shit headphones philosophy i.e. remove the jack so people *must* buy accessories (dongles for days). Why wouldnt you go the whole way and accessorize an additional display / drawing surface? That also gets round having such a stupid "fold" design in a phone and justifies investment in flexible screens.

Plus those who want the note experience on a smaller screen. Even on a smaller screen it's still pretty nifty aside from air actions. Magnify, Glance, remote camera controls, haptic feedback from I'll m the pen is roughly the same as the note 8 but you could do some good pictures. Before you say you can do pictures on a larger screen, yes, yes you can. That doesn't refute that you could draw on a smaller screen and actually hold the regular note while doing so.

@@mataskart9894 I switched from mi 9t to galaxy a71 (same price segment) so that tells how much i care for cutout. That pop up camera feels like a toy with led bleeding in dark. It also makes phones heavier and thicker.

But I NEVER use the front camera, I would def buy a phone without a front camera any day if it came out at the ~600 euro price range, but the pop up thing that hides it also works, since I don't have an ugly black cut out or a notch on my screen, and get to use it once in a year if I really need to, so durability also ain't a factor, also there's the security factor- you can't be watched through the camera if it's a pop-up, though I personally don't care about that, some people may. And it doesn't affect the phone's waterproof-ness, since The OnePlus 7 Pro was submerged for a few hours without any problems, even if OnePlus don't pay for the resistance rating... And I'm not planning to go ocean diving with my phone, so that's good enough for me, if it can survive a little rain for an hour or sweat that's plenty... So yeah, aside from more effort needed to implement it(and thus higher cost), I don't see a negative side to it....
@@mataskart9894 I barely use front camera too. It worth mentioning that average hole punch is about half the area of average teardrop notch, so its the best thing after pop up. I used the phones i had as a reference as mi 9t is significantly heavier and thicker device with less screen area and smaller battery compared to a71. Just if you are interested in glass vs plastic: Plastic on back of a71 is much more scratch resistant than gorilla glass 5 on the back of mi 9t.

A lot of people are picking on Linus for talking about the headphone jack when he clearly explained his reasoning in the video. It's not about usability but it's more about what the note series stands for "An enthusiast's phone that contains reasonably good enthusiasts' features and looks good while doing it". A light ROG phone with a pen, no RGB, and an expansion slot is what the note 10 should've been like. Also, The note 10+ makes the idea of the note series redundant.

It's kind of usability though too. To be honest, I won't buy a phone without a headphone jack ever again. It's a feature that is a must have for me. I didn't think it was that big of a deal until i had to live with it gone. Using a Type C dongle is fine...I guess. It's just that extra thing I have to carry around literally always in case I end up wanting to use my headphones. Especially when my travel is by bus, and most of the time I'm traveling I'm solo.

Kemal Demir sad but true. I had an iPhone 8 years ago, before i bought my first Note. But I still own an iPad & iPod because of the really awesome sound quality, battery life and easy OS. Switching back to the iPhone wouldn’t be that hard, to be honest.

I felt the same way honestly when it was gone, but having the actual phone, I don't really miss it as much as I did before, and I use my headphones almost 3-5 hours every day. Mornings, nights, in the middle of the day, etc.
Removable battery. IR blaster. FM Transmitter. Headphone Jack. SD card slot (They removed it from the smaller Note 10. You know they'll be removing it from the S11 series.) All reasons I chose Samsung over Apple. I don't care about the software half as much as the hardware. And now they're all doing pretty much the exact same thing, with minor differences.

Though removable battery? Idk. They stopped doing that a pretty long time ago. To become more streamlined and function much better, not having a removable battery is actually an improvement. Headphone jack? As much as I miss it, it hasn't bothered me much. The usb C headphones work pretty well, and i rarely ever get to the point of my phone dying, so I rarely ever have to charge and listen to music at the same time.

Actually I am really like samsung and what they doing but I felt disappointed as well when they released the Note 10s, because it's their "10th" Note phone. But maybe, maybe they will pack the Note 11 with great features such as a high refresh rate screen with under the screen camera... I am hope that they will do something big for their 10th anniversary Note
I heard from a friend who bought Note 10+ that battery life suck, maybe a one day battery life if not worse. S10+ easily lasts for 2 day of normal use. Its not about the size, but the demanding components it runs.

I think arguably time became ready more so than they would have in the last couple of years because Apple started the change in the industry standard and pushed more headphone manufacturers to make more and better wireless headphones due to increased demand. This move is just as bad then as it is now, it's removing a convenient feature without adding anything super important that necessitated the change.
But they gave you a USB type C set of headphones in the box that replace the need for a headphone Jack. With the increased battery life you just use those because you dont have to charge your phone near as much. At least on the Note 10+

I also have a snapdragon LG Stylo and it runs super smooth and no overheating, almost never gets hot I loved it.

I also have the visible ZTE r2 with the snapdragon 425 and that phone too is super smooth, doesn't get hot as fuck after booting up with minimal lag. Idk maybe I just have a bad s9. It's real of course Verizon doesn't sell fakes.

To anyone complaining about the headphone jack: you guys are the same people that want a massive foldable screen but make fun of it for a few broken review units. Samsung innovated in almost every way on this phone, and you guys are reduced to saying the speakers are slightly worse, there is a hole punch, and no headphone jack. Hole punch: just make it a giant forehead. Easy. Pop up cameras need to be tested first. That's why it's on a budget phone. It's a tiny little thing. Every other manufacturer has a notch, forehead, or an untested solution of a motorized camera. Cludgy solution that will never be used 2 years from now. Speakers: get over it. They are still great speakers. Find better ones on a wide selling premium phone. And the headphone jack. They had to remove it at some point. This isnt some no trade deal, you get stuff in return. But eventually you will need to get over it. At some point in your life, you have to move onto better tech. Theres a reason we dont use vhs tapes.

I dont need a thinner phone. I need a more practical one, including headphone jack, sd card, and the ability to change rom for custmization. I need options from what im paying top dollar for.
Also let’s not forget about the removal of the pulse oximeter sensor. I know that to a lot of people it’s not a big deal, but I use the one on my Note 9 all the time to measure my blood oxygen level after waking up (I have sleep apnea). Regardless of functionality, it makes no sense to me that the S10 and S10 Plus have the headphone jack, expandable storage on both models AND the pulse oximeter, but the NOTE doesn’t.

Why does everyone whine about the headphone jack? For wired headphones there are unobtrusive adapters for a couple of dollars that adapt 3.5mm to USB-C seamlessly. I get substantially more battery life and just keep the adapter on my headphones. People need to get over it. Its 2019 many headphones are bluetooth these days but for those who don't want to manage charging them or the expense can simply use ISB-C headphones. If they dont want to buy USB headphones an adapter under 5 bucks can ensure all their existing headphones are forward compatible... it's a minor inconvenience...so was upgrading from VCRs to DVDs but everyone did it

It definitely has DAC because otherwise you would not be able to use build in speakers on Note. Still - not using it for usb c native audio output is dumb, and thank you for mentioning it, I was not aware of that.
Would have been nix if they would have integrated the headphone jack at least in the hole for the pen if really needed. Of course you must carry that S pen then extra but you would have the option to use an AUX cable.

Same. I have $1k IEM's, and I'm not going to use the nearly worthless bluetooth dongle they have for them. It's either got a headphone jack or I'm not interested. I gave the bluetooth a chance, it's terrible in comparison, and I can be tying up the only port on the phone that can charge it with an external headphone jack dongle. I need my phone constantly, and it's generally plugged in to a charger so that when I need it elsewhere it has plenty of charge. So my Note 9 is still perfect for me. Maybe the 11 will be more of what I need.

They got rid of that garbage Bixby button that no one wanted and put the power button...no headphone Jack but they gave us USB type C headphones. I'm starting to think half the people complaining dont own the phone or haven't even touched one in person.

My dad has been using his Note 5 since launch, and it still runs amazingly well. I’m not sure he’ll ever upgrade... but then again, I don’t really blame him.
@@adamgraham6265 I have the Note 10+ 5G and its a wicked handset. I haven't had the opportunity to try out the 5G yet but when it gets launched properly in London it will be worth the extra cost. At the moment it's a bit of a waste. I'd say only go 5G if you can afford to do so.
Its not about the size of the memory. If I break my phone all I have to do is take out the sd and most of my data will be saved without having to mess with data recovery
I have the Note 9, I usually upgrade annually but decided to stick with the note 9, it just has everything - while the 10 has everything EXCEPT for the headphone jack.

I had the S series up to the 9 and now have the Note 10+ and I love it. I miss the headphone jack (though I like how thin the phone is), the hole punch takes some getting used to, and the fingerprint scanner sucks, but everything else is amazing to me. The screen is gorgeous and it's my favorite device to watch videos on (it doesn't have that weird orange tint the S series always has). The UI is silky smooth, multitasking/picture in picture is a breeze, the battery is a powerhouse, the camera is beautiful, and the S pen is fun to use (even if pretty useless)
Hey!!! You don't need it with a headphone 3.5mm to Type USB C adapter. Very inexpensive..... Of course there headphones that come with Type C and do not need an adapter. Several major cell phone manufactures are getting away from the old style 3.5mm headphone jack and going to the USB Type C.

@@itIsI988 because one it looks way better and modern as opposed to bezels which look hidiously outdated. Two it gives you more screen real estate without increasing the size of the phone itself. Hence its the same form factor but more usable screen. So that's why its way better and obsessed over.
@@azyrael96 sensors which weren't neccessary to begin with. So its not a comprimise. Most people who care about heart rate sensors for example will have a smart watch anyway which will already do that so there is no need for it to rob screen real estate which is much more useful than a hrs.

The Bixby button was never a downside for me, I remapped it for the flashlight when the screen is off and spotify when it's on. I use it all the time and I love it.

I use a 3.5mm to USB adapter it's a 3 inch wire and I just leave it attached to my headphones. They're a few bucks and you can buy a few in case you think you'll lose them. I always use my wired headphones for my longer runs and bike rides and was worried about losing the headphone jack too... the adapter works great and it's not a bulky dongle. It's a little inconvenient to purchase it but it's one and done. This is just the evolution of technology. Eventually they stopped putting VCRs in DVD players... so too will go the 3.5mm jack. USB wired phones have a better audio signal and bluetooth battery life is getting long enough to have most people ditching wires altogether. The good news is that your wired headphones are not obsolete they just need a small upgrade.
@@EverythingIsPhotogenic Here's the thing though, every other "evolution of technology" had a clear advantage. DVDs were far better quality than VHS tapes, were more convenient (didn't have to rewind the tape and didn't have to worry about the tape getting tangled or torn), and were smaller. Probably even cheaper to mass produce after they became mainstream. Similarly, Blu-ray provided a distinct quality and capacity advantage over DVD. I myself own Galaxy Buds but I can't even wear them while laying on my bed without the pillow interfering with the signal. That's some nonsense right there. They're more convenient in that I don't need to deal with the cord getting tangled or cut, but less convenient in that I need to charge them and can't use them while doing so. There is literally NO reason to remove the 3.5 mm headphone jack in a phone as big as the Note. Not until a better solution than Bluetooth comes around, which after five main iterations and more in between, still sucks.
@@LifeWulf that's odd about the buds I use bose sound sport and a pair of beats3 and I get great signal. You can charge the buds by setting them on the phone for a few minutes which is going to be really cool when more bluetooth headphones have wireless charging. I wouldn't say the transition doesn't have clear advantages because it does we just haven't reached the level of the technology that will give us unlimited power on the bluetooth. If you had a pair of bluetooth headphones (without signal problems that really sucks) that could regenerate power somehow while being used, you would toss your wired phones in a drawer and forget them. We are just in that weird phase where the technology has not quite given us everything we want so we still cling to the old. I wish perfect world the jack was there too... but I have found a way to get what i want out of it. Actually the ball was really dropped when usb c headphones and replacements for aux jacks were never developed there was no bridge. It was like screw you say goodbye to your jack and good luck finding headphones. But USB C has been out there as the emerging industry standard for over 3 years. The shelves should be full of USB c headphones but they're not. It's like someone gave you a blue ray player in 2003 with no discs and your response would be WTF am I going to do with this paperweight.

Same here! Using the latest LineageOS 16 working smoothly and battery life is pretty good if I don't take too many pictures or don't use the GPS. This will be the reason when I'll upgrade maybe to a future oneplus without curved screen which is really stupid and useless. Until then, the Note 4 it is :D
@@Eli-si4zf there's little point moving off the note 4, it has the same screen size and density, camera is fine, finger print reader is on the front where it should be, plus all of the features Samsung has inexplicably removed since 2015, as well as an actual flat display to use the pen on. Who in their right mind thought that adding a cured edge to a display that has a stylus? You have to continually swap between pen and fingers when scrolling now because the scroll bar is on the curve and there's no other way to scroll with the pen.

Is it just me who finds the pen stupid? Like if you want drawing capability market an accessory which uses a bendy / rollup oled screen + pen.
Like if you're going to copy apple on their shit headphones philosophy i.e. remove the jack so people *must* buy accessories (dongles for days).
Why wouldnt you go the whole way and accessorize an additional display / drawing surface? That also gets round having such a stupid "fold" design in a phone and justifies investment in flexible screens.

Even on a smaller screen it's still pretty nifty aside from air actions. Magnify, Glance, remote camera controls, haptic feedback from I'll m the pen is roughly the same as the note 8 but you could do some good pictures. Before you say you can do pictures on a larger screen, yes, yes you can. That doesn't refute that you could draw on a smaller screen and actually hold the regular note while doing so.

But I NEVER use the front camera, I would def buy a phone without a front camera any day if it came out at the ~600 euro price range, but the pop up thing that hides it also works, since I don't have an ugly black cut out or a notch on my screen, and get to use it once in a year if I really need to, so durability also ain't a factor, also there's the security factor- you can't be watched through the camera if it's a pop-up, though I personally don't care about that, some people may. And it doesn't affect the phone's waterproof-ness, since The OnePlus 7 Pro was submerged for a few hours without any problems, even if OnePlus don't pay for the resistance rating... And I'm not planning to go ocean diving with my phone, so that's good enough for me, if it can survive a little rain for an hour or sweat that's plenty...
So yeah, aside from more effort needed to implement it(and thus higher cost), I don't see a negative side to it....
@@mataskart9894 I barely use front camera too. It worth mentioning that average hole punch is about half the area of average teardrop notch, so its the best thing after pop up. I used the phones i had as a reference as mi 9t is significantly heavier and thicker device with less screen area and smaller battery compared to a71. Just if you are interested in glass vs plastic: Plastic on back of a71 is much more scratch resistant than gorilla glass 5 on the back of mi 9t.

It's not about usability but it's more about what the note series stands for

It's kind of usability though too. To be honest, I won't buy a phone without a headphone jack ever again. It's a feature that is a must have for me. I didn't think it was that big of a deal until i had to live with it gone. Using a Type C dongle is fine...I guess. It's just that extra thing I have to carry around literally always in case I end up wanting to use my headphones. Especially when my travel is by bus, and most of the time I'm traveling I'm solo.

they should have postponed the release at least for another year for this one and put some more research in it. it feels like a reheated meal from yesterday; bloated up and coated in fancy dressing, but missing the bite and core flavours the 9 had. the Note was always about getting "more", but ditching the jack, limiting the storage und use a cheap punchout just feels backwards and „less“.
now we just get more models, not more specs.

I felt the same way honestly when it was gone, but having the actual phone, I don't really miss it as much as I did before, and I use my headphones almost 3-5 hours every day. Mornings, nights, in the middle of the day, etc.
Removable battery. IR blaster. FM Transmitter. Headphone Jack. SD card slot
(They removed it from the smaller Note 10. You know they'll be removing it from the S11 series.)
All reasons I chose Samsung over Apple. I don't care about the software half as much as the hardware.
And now they're all doing pretty much the exact same thing, with minor differences.

Though removable battery? Idk. They stopped doing that a pretty long time ago. To become more streamlined and function much better, not having a removable battery is actually an improvement. Headphone jack? As much as I miss it, it hasn't bothered me much. The usb C headphones work pretty well, and i rarely ever get to the point of my phone dying, so I rarely ever have to charge and listen to music at the same time.

Actually I am really like samsung and what they doing but I felt disappointed as well when they released the Note 10s, because it's their "10th" Note phone. I heard from a friend who bought Note 10+ that battery life suck, maybe a one day battery life if not worse. S10+ easily lasts for 2 day of normal use. Its not about the size, but the demanding components it runs.

I think arguably time became ready more so than they would have in the last couple of years because Apple started the change in the industry standard and pushed more headphone manufacturers to make more and better wireless headphones due to increased demand. This move is just as bad then as it is now, it's removing a convenient feature without adding anything super important that necessitated the change.

But they gave you a USB type C set of headphones in the box that replace the need for a headphone Jack. With the increased battery life you just use those because you dont have to charge your phone near as much. At least on the Note 10+

I also have a snapdragon LG Stylo and it runs super smooth and no overheating, almost never gets hot I loved it.

I also have the visible ZTE r2 with the snapdragon 425 and that phone too is super smooth, doesn't get hot as fuck after booting up with minimal lag. Idk maybe I just have a bad s9. It's real of course Verizon doesn't sell fakes.

To anyone complaining about the headphone jack: you guys are the same people that want a massive foldable screen but make fun of it for a few broken review units. Samsung innovated in almost every way on this phone, and you guys are reduced to saying the speakers are slightly worse, there is a hole punch, and no headphone jack. Hole punch: just make it a giant forehead. Easy. Pop up cameras need to be tested first. That's why it's on a budget phone. It's a tiny little thing. Every other manufacturer has a notch, forehead, or an untested solution of a motorized camera. Cludgy solution that will never be used 2 years from now. Speakers: get over it. They are still great speakers. Find better ones on a wide selling premium phone. And the headphone jack. They had to remove it at some point. This isnt some no trade deal, you get stuff in return. But eventually you will need to get over it. At some point in your life, you have to move onto better tech. Theres a reason we dont use vhs tapes.

Also let’s not forget about the removal of the pulse oximeter sensor. I know that to a lot of people it’s not a big deal, but I use the one on my Note 9 all the time to measure my blood oxygen level after waking up (I have sleep apnea).
Regardless of functionality, it makes no sense to me that the S10 and S10 Plus have the headphone jack, expandable storage on both models AND the pulse oximeter, but the NOTE doesn’t.
The Note 10 is just a major fuck up and not worth the nearly or over 1000$
S10 is better choice and economical, you'll not need to upgrade for few years

Why does everyone whine about the headphone jack? For wired headphones there are unobtrusive adapters for a couple of dollars that adapt 3.5mm to USB-C seamlessly. I get substantially more battery life and just keep the adapter on my headphones. People need to get over it. Its 2019 many headphones are bluetooth these days but for those who don't want to manage charging them or the expense can simply use ISB-C headphones. If they dont want to buy USB headphones an adapter under 5 bucks can ensure all their existing headphones are forward compatible... it's a minor inconvenience...so was upgrading from VCRs to DVDs but everyone did it

Would have been nix if they would have integrated the headphone jack at least in the hole for the pen if really needed. Of course you must carry that S pen then extra but you would have the option to use an AUX cable.
IDK why RUclips suggested this review again, but that last part linus said " S Series with a Pen". Samsung noted that, and ditched the note series then launched a S Series with a Pen 😅. Thanks Linus

Same. I have $1k IEM's, and I'm not going to use the nearly worthless bluetooth dongle they have for them. It's either got a headphone jack or I'm not interested. I gave the bluetooth a chance, it's terrible in comparison, and I can be tying up the only port on the phone that can charge it with an external headphone jack dongle. I need my phone constantly, and it's generally plugged in to a charger so that when I need it elsewhere it has plenty of charge. So my Note 9 is still perfect for me. Maybe the 11 will be more of what I need.

@@adamgraham6265 I have the Note 10+ 5G and its a wicked handset. I haven't had the opportunity to try out the 5G yet but when it gets launched properly in London it will be worth the extra cost. At the moment it's a bit of a waste. I'd say only go 5G if you can afford to do so.

Its not about the size of the memory. If I break my phone all I have to do is take out the sd and most of my data will be saved without having to mess with data recovery

I had the S series up to the 9 and now have the Note 10+ and I love it. I miss the headphone jack (though I like how thin the phone is), the hole punch takes some getting used to, and the fingerprint scanner sucks, but everything else is amazing to me.
The screen is gorgeous and it's my favorite device to watch videos on (it doesn't have that weird orange tint the S series always has). The UI is silky smooth, multitasking/picture in picture is a breeze, the battery is a powerhouse, the camera is beautiful, and the S pen is fun to use (even if pretty useless)
If people stopped buying phones without headphone jack. They will put it back.

Hey!!! You don't need it with a headphone 3.5mm to Type USB C adapter. Very inexpensive..... Of course there headphones that come with Type C and do not need an adapter. Several major cell phone manufactures are getting away from the old style 3.5mm headphone jack and going to the USB Type C.
My gripes with not having a headphone jack is for car audio not for actually headphone use

@@azyrael96 sensors which weren't neccessary to begin with. So its not a comprimise. Most people who care about heart rate sensors for example will have a smart watch anyway which will already do that so there is no need for it to rob screen real estate which is much more useful than a hrs.

The Bixby button was never a downside for me, I remapped it for the flashlight when the screen is off and spotify when it's on. I use it all the time and I love it.

I use my headphone jack at least once a day. I hope some new phones will keep it
I use a 3.5mm to USB adapter it's a 3 inch wire and I just leave it attached to my headphones. They're a few bucks and you can buy a few in case you think you'll lose them. I always use my wired headphones for my longer runs and bike rides and was worried about losing the headphone jack too... the adapter works great and it's not a bulky dongle. It's a little inconvenient to purchase it but it's one and done. This is just the evolution of technology. Eventually they stopped putting VCRs in DVD players... so too will go the 3.5mm jack. USB wired phones have a better audio signal and bluetooth battery life is getting long enough to have most people ditching wires altogether. The good news is that your wired headphones are not obsolete they just need a small upgrade.

DVDs were far better quality than VHS tapes, were more convenient (didn't have to rewind the tape and didn't have to worry about the tape getting tangled or torn), and were smaller. Probably even cheaper to mass produce after they became mainstream. Similarly, Blu-ray provided a distinct quality and capacity advantage over DVD.
I myself own Galaxy Buds but I can't even wear them while laying on my bed without the pillow interfering with the signal. That's some nonsense right there. They're more convenient in that I don't need to deal with the cord getting tangled or cut, but less convenient in that I need to charge them and can't use them while doing so.
There is literally NO reason to remove the 3.5 mm headphone jack in a phone as big as the Note. Not until a better solution than Bluetooth comes around, which after five main iterations and more in between, still sucks.
@@LifeWulf that's odd about the buds I use bose sound sport and a pair of beats3 and I get great signal. You can charge the buds by setting them on the phone for a few minutes which is going to be really cool when more bluetooth headphones have wireless charging. I wouldn't say the transition doesn't have clear advantages because it does we just haven't reached the level of the technology that will give us unlimited power on the bluetooth. If you had a pair of bluetooth headphones (without signal problems that really sucks) that could regenerate power somehow while being used, you would toss your wired phones in a drawer and forget them. We are just in that weird phase where the technology has not quite given us everything we want so we still cling to the old. I wish perfect world the jack was there too... but I have found a way to get what i want out of it. Actually the ball was really dropped when usb c headphones and replacements for aux jacks were never developed there was no bridge. It was like screw you say goodbye to your jack and good luck finding headphones. But USB C has been out there as the emerging industry standard for over 3 years. The shelves should be full of USB c headphones but they're not. It's like someone gave you a blue ray player in 2003 with no discs and your response would be WTF am I going to do with this paperweight.

Same here! Using the latest LineageOS 16 working smoothly and battery life is pretty good if I don't take too many pictures or don't use the GPS. This will be the reason when I'll upgrade maybe to a future oneplus without curved screen which is really stupid and useless. Until then, the Note 4 it is :D

@@Eli-si4zf there's little point moving off the note 4, it has the same screen size and density, camera is fine, finger print reader is on the front where it should be, plus all of the features Samsung has inexplicably removed since 2015, as well as an actual flat display to use the pen on. Who in their right mind thought that adding a cured edge to a display that has a stylus? You have to continually swap between pen and fingers when scrolling now because the scroll bar is on the curve and there's no other way to scroll with the pen.

I'm still on my Note 9 I just got it May 2019 could of went with the S10 Plus but the Note line will always be my favorite phone. Will upgrade to the Note 11 Plus.
