If you want to make the first recipe (hamburger helper) even more budget friendly instead of beef broth use water & add a taco seasoning pkt. Turns it into a chili Mac. I've done it also adding a can of chili beans and cup of frozen corn. 😉 I also have 2 instant pots, love them!!
I made the first recipe for dinner the other night! Total hit! Tasted amazing. Definitely had to add more beef broth. But omg...it was so delicious!!!! Definitely a staple dish!
Just thought I would let you know, that there is a way to adjust the saute temp so that you can go low. When you first select the saute you can then click on the adjust button until it moves to the 1st position (low). Hope this is helpful to you.
Hi Vanessa! I've had my IP since LAST Christmas & still haven't used it 🙈🙈I've watched so many videos and you're the 1st who is actually SHOWING me and not just telling me! Thank you!
A tip I picked up from Dad Cooks Dinner for pressure cooking pasta is to use 8 oz. liquid for every 4 oz. pasta, regardless of pasta shape (macaroni, spaghetti, lasagna -- it doesn't seem to matter). You can always drain any excess water, but my pasta usually absorbs it a-ok or it just becomes part of the sauce. 😊 I'm not usually a video commenter, but I do enjoy your recipes and felt compelled to say thank you today. I appreciate you sharing your family's journey!
I can’t wait for your website & printable recipes. That will be soooo great! This Ole Gal has a website & it’s so convenient to print the recipes & you can also add your personal tweaks to the same page. Hurry & make that website!
Thanks for thinking of us here and you will be giving us a printable format. Your pumpkin seed cinnamon sugar recipe was a huge hit with my family and co-workers!
Thanks for the chicken and dumplings recipe. I’ve modified it a bit and I think it’s even better. I make a blonde roux before hand and remove before pressure cooking. Then add back at end - just thicker and richer. I have a Ninja Foodi rather than an instant pot so I air crisp the dumplings and flip halfway through. Yum! I’m adding more seasoning this time - thyme, bay leaf and poultry seasoning.
We dont eat a lot of meat at our home but I can easily swap out with these great recipes! I really like the way you explain the instant pot and how to use it, mine is still in the box! I am inspired by how easy you make it look! Thank you!
My family does not like boxed hamburger helper. I never thought to try to make it myself, this recipe looks very good definitely putting it on my meal plan next week. Thanks for sharing it.
I love homemade hamburger helper also. Better nutrition. And loved that you too use the broths! Mine was beef broth used for stroganoff.yummmm! Now I may have to invest in a quick cooker because I love crockpot meals. Thx for sharing your recipes!
Both looked super yummy! I've never seen chicken & dumplings made with potatoes but looked really good. Great video as always. Thanks for sharing with us!
I’m so excited you are going to do the website with recipes! First recipe looks great! I’ll give it a try. I don’t like dumplings so the second one isn’t for me.
Coming over from Jennifer’s channel A Little Bit Of Calm and Crazy. We have tried the taco soup & loved it. We are trying the Chicken Rice Soup next. These recipes look great too. Thanks a bunch. Happy Thanksgiving !
A couple easy looking recipies to try for the guys. (I'm not a meat eater) For the 1st one I have a few questions (IP newbie here): 1. After the meat is browned up, can you drain the fat off or have to cook it all up with all the fat in? & 2. Big teenager appetites here, could I make up a double batch (1lb ground beef & 1lb turkey) or is that too much for my 6 qt? Thank you, and I've already checked out several of your other videos!
The recipes love Ike’s good! I’ve never seen a chicken and dumplings recipe with potatoes !?! I would call this Chicken pot pie casserole. Regardless- this looks yummy 😋
Enjoyed the video. However it isn't necessary to "press down" the ingredients into the liquid. The whole process of IP (i.e. pressure) cooking is that the cooking is done by steam (& pressure)--which eventually touches/cooks *every* ingredient. Just saying... :-)
Careful when you quick release as I can see it steaming off the paint or even wallpaper. Have seen that happen so beware. Any suggestions on how to do these meals from scratch? I’m not big on buying prepared foods-too many chemicals for us.
Great Recipes❤ I may make a Rendition of this But" the Salt & Pepper to Taste is Not how I cook! 🤗 I just Can't eat Tasteless Food! 😝😂 In my Opinion' adding Salt & Pepper" While Cooking gives the Best Flavor... {The Only Reason I would Omit or Cook Separately No Salt would be if someone was Watching their Salt Intake} Perhaps it's just a Cultural Thing!🤗 Anyway these are Great Recipes💯. ❤🤗❤🤗❤ I'm a bit Late in the Insta Pot craze' because my 22 & 19 yr old son's have taken over cooking😊 Now that I've decided to purchase one I wanted to research the Insta Pot being used... I can see that you Really Love & use yours 🤗 Think I'll run out & Grab myself one! Thanks Again! ❤❤❤
I really like both these recipes. I'm going to try making them. A question about the chicken and dumplings, I don't have bisquick on hand, what are some other options I could use to make the dumplings? Thanks for making these videos. They are super helpful!! :)
I had the same question in mind. I'm going to try to use a homemade buttermilk biscuit dough that is a little wetter in consistency. I keep buttermilk powder in my pantry so that I don't have to keep it in my refrigerator all the time. The cooking time for the stew should be enough time to make the dough - at least I hope so! You can also look up dumpling recipes to see if any use buttermilk. I read an IP recipe for chicken stew that uses chunks of refrigerated biscuit dough, but I am leary of all the artificial ingredients that are in it. HTH! ~Anastacia in Cleveland
Love these videos. I'm just starting to use the instant pot and one thing I struggle with is what do I do if the timer is done and I notice the noodles aren't cooked. Is it as simple as putting the lid back on and adding more time ?
Have you ever had your instant pot say burn? Lol. We did we are new to this and decided to add noodles to the stew the next day and it said burn on it before the time was up , 😂. Lesson learned
Yum to the homemade hamburger helper, my husband would love this, I'll have to try it soon, I'm not a dumpling fan but it sure looks good. Thanks for sharing.
Hi I just got a pioneer woman instant pot No idea hot use it Yes I’m reading the information came with it I am a crockpot lady love my crockpots have 4 of them My mother passed away and some relatives that live far away that I’ve talked on phone with about when mom was getting worst as each day went by Anyways came to my mom Furneral Cuz got me the PW insta pot Sweet I know But trying figure it out Any pointers would be awesome
I highly recommend the book "The Instant Pot Bible" by Bruce Weinstein and Mark Scarbrough. Any cookbook that has "Authorized By Instant Pot" written on it on a yellow background is reliable. You can also watch RUclips channels like this one, or other ones by Instant Pot, Pressure Luck or Six Sisters. Watching videos really helped me. HTH! Also, please accept my condolences on the loss of your mom. Hugs! ~Anastacia in Cleveland
what is the purpose of cooking the first recipe in the IP? i realize it "cooked" in 4 minutes, but it takes about 15 minutes to come up to pressure first. so wouldn't it take approximately the same amount of time as just cooking it on the stove?
It is a different way of cooking, but once you get the hang of it, you may like it. I like how I can easily cook such staples as oatmeal and hard boiled eggs in quantity and get consistent results. Also, an IP is not as hard to clean as you might think. Cheers! ~Anastacia in Cleveland
I want to try to hamburger helper recipe, but I will need to at least double, maybe triple this recipe for my large family. Will the cook time need to increase to 8 minutes for double, 12 minutes for triple?
The homemade hamburger helper prob would have tasted better for them if you used American cheese instead. Cheddar sometimes is even too much for me lol. Love the recipes! :)
People can substitute as needed. Obviously someone that knows they are lactose intolerant wouldn’t make the recipe as is. And besides, they are probably already used to making substitutions to recipes.
I rarely use pepper and salt. Not necessary at all. All other seasonings and ingredients are plenty enough for flavor. Salt is also not good for you. Once you wean yourself off of salt, you won't crave it anymore.
Guess you caught yourself. My home economics teacher would have flunked you for all the Yellow food on the plate and two starches but no veggies. Corn is a grain as is the wheat in the pasta. How about some green beans?
Good grief, the shells are pasta, NOT noodles. Pasta is from Italy, noodles are from Asia. Why do so many people from the US not understand the difference?

For a very cheesy taste without all the cheddar add 1/2 the bag and 2 oz of cream cheese. Yum!
I made the first recipe for dinner the other night! Total hit! Tasted amazing. Definitely had to add more beef broth. But omg...it was so delicious!!!! Definitely a staple dish!
I just made this. I just added seasonings though....garlic, parleys, celery seeds and pepper!! Yum!!! Thanks.

I love both of these recipes. The homemade hamburger helper, I add taco seasoning it tastes great.
Taco Seasoning would be so good!
@@LifebyVanessa When I make tacos I love to use the taco meat and mix it with macaroni and cheese. You will love it.
Just got an Instant Pot and these two recipes will be the first things I cook in it! Thanks so much!
I make those dumplings also. I add some chopped parsley in the dough mix. Adds a little color and tastes great too!
I can’t wait for your website & printable recipes. That will be soooo great! This Ole Gal has a website & it’s so convenient to print the recipes & you can also add your personal tweaks to the same page. Hurry & make that website!

I'm so glad they liked it!
Thank you thank you!! Your recipes are a saving grace for me as a clueless new wife 😂
It’ll get easier with time. You’ll be a pro before you know it!
Simply Sarah - y tube , she has good recipes
I just got an IP Duo and I think that you can saute at different temps--try hitting the -/+ buttons (yours was lit on high). It does get super hot.
Thanks for the chicken and dumplings recipe. I’ve modified it a bit and I think it’s even better. I make a blonde roux before hand and remove before pressure cooking. Yay for printable recipes! Thank you 😊
Where at?
Yes, printable recipes!
That homemade hamburger helper looks delicious! I’ve been nervous to do pasta in the instant pot, because I know that they can over cook SO fast! 😊
We dont eat a lot of meat at our home but I can easily swap out with these great recipes! I really like the way you explain the instant pot and how to use it, mine is still in the box! I am inspired by how easy you make it look! Thank you!

I will be making this! Looks good!!!
Those recipes look so yummy. I have to try both.
Those look delicious! Thanks for sharing.
When you turn on the sauté button you can press the adjust button until the temp goes to low sauté.
You can get a lower boil by turning the temperature on sauté button.
I’m so excited you are going to do the website with recipes! First recipe looks great! I’ll give it a try. I don’t like dumplings so the second one isn’t for me.
Thank u soo much for this recipe I'm currently eating it only difference is my meat I cooked frozen 1ft then followed ur recipe my son is in heaven
Great recipes and awsome to hear about the website.
With the IP hit saute then hit adjust and you can adjust the saute mode from low normal to high
Love its!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you know how many minutes it takes for each meal? And when do u use low pressure vs high
Love your new hair color. Great instant pot video!
New subbie here. Love your easy IP recipes.
I love chicken & dumplings but I do not put vegs and I use can biscuits I cook my dumps so they are not so wet but it did look good
Everything looked so good, we dont have hamburger helper in the uk but i will have to try this yum yum

Made it tonight - double batch, no probs. It was a hit! Going in the rotation for sure!
Yum 😍
Yummy......Good job...
Interesting, I've never had potatoes in Chicken 'N Dumplings. Sounds good.

Brightfox's Den Thank u for this idea. I did get some bisquick since I wrote this, & I'm looking up other ways to make dumplings. Appreciate ur reply.
You're welcome! ☺
Love these videos. I'm just starting to use the instant pot and one thing I struggle with is what do I do if the timer is done and I notice the noodles aren't cooked. Is it as simple as putting the lid back on and adding more time ?
I think so, provided that there is still liquid left that can be absorbed into your noodles or pasta. HTH! ~Anastacia in Cleveland
awesome
To me, hamburger helper in the box has an herb or preservative or something, that has a twang in the aftertaste. Thanks for the video.
Have you ever had your instant pot say burn? Lol. We did we are new to this and decided to add noodles to the stew the next day and it said burn on it before the time was up , 😂. Lesson learned
I've never had that problem before but know it's happened to others before!
Not enough liquid
I like these as I usually have these ingredients in hand. Second recipe seems long on time, though?
TFS ☺ self made business. ☺
what is the heavy cream called and how many lbs beef you use?
Yum to the homemade hamburger helper, my husband would love this, I'll have to try it soon, I'm not a dumpling fan but it sure looks good. Thanks for sharing.
Greetings. I didn’t see you drain the grease from the meat. Did I miss that?
I like to cook my beef ahead of time and freeze it. Could I use that instead of cooking the beef in the Instant pot?
Hi I just got a pioneer woman instant pot No idea hot use it Yes I’m reading the information came with it I am a crockpot lady love my crockpots have 4 of them My mother passed away and some relatives that live far away that I’ve talked on phone with about when mom was getting worst as each day went by Anyways came to my mom Furneral Cuz got me the PW insta pot Sweet I know But trying figure it out Any pointers would be awesome

After cooking the ground beef did you drain the grease/water from the pot?
Sometimes I do if the meat has a lot of grease in it. This time I did not need to.
I might invest in one but it just seems I would feel weird cooking on a rice cooker lol 😂 rather a stove lol but 4 min shoot I’ll take it lol
Can you please tell me the name off your cook book as l cant find it
Jill Gasson It’s called A RUclipsr’s Cooking Playlist
It is linked in the description :) A RUclipsr's Cooking Playlist
Vanessa, does putting the pasta in dry give it a starchy taste? Been wondering that.
Leva Wels
When making the first recipe (hamburger helper), did you drain the meat before putting in the pasta? Did you use "lean" gb?
I was wondering the same thing.
I use extra lean ground beef so rarely need to drain it 😊
Where can I find the printable recipe
Can you use a pressure cooker if you don't have a instant pot?? I feel dumb asking this question. ☹
Any brand pressure cooker is fine. An Instant Pot is a pressure cooker, that's just the brand name :)
I want to try to hamburger helper recipe, but I will need to at least double, maybe triple this recipe for my large family. Will the cook time need to increase to 8 minutes for double, 12 minutes for triple?
Should be the same no matter the quantity because if the pressure being even
Would any glass lid work with the IP? Or can you just buy the pioneer womans lid separately instead of buying another IP?
If you have a glass lid that fits it will work fine
You can buy the IP glass lid separately. I did so from Amazon. Cheers! ~Anastacia in Cleveland
Too cheesy? Never!
Does anyone know what type of liquid I could use if I’m using ground turkey instead of beef
Paging Nurse Shelly B vegetable broth would be good
How do u know how many minutes to cook something?
😊❤️👍🏼
The homemade hamburger helper prob would have tasted better for them if you used American cheese instead. Cheddar sometimes is even too much for me lol. Love the recipes! :)
You don’t drain the grease from the cooked hamburger?
That’s my question too...
these recipes are hell on earth for people with lactose intolerance
People can substitute as needed. Obviously someone that knows they are lactose intolerant wouldn’t make the recipe as is. And besides, they are probably already used to making substitutions to recipes.
How do you pour the fat off?
For the love of god. Salt and pepper. How do you live without adding salt and pepper.
I rarely use pepper and salt. Not necessary at all. All other seasonings and ingredients are plenty enough for flavor. Salt is also not good for you. Once you wean yourself off of salt, you won't crave it anymore.
I agree - salt and pepper add so much good flavor. Food is bland without it.
She lets her family season their food to their individual taste with salt and pepper. Cheers! ~Anastacia in Cleveland
Bake in oven, çan biscuits , 10 minutes
SHELLS! Not "Noodles"!
Guess you caught yourself. My home economics teacher would have flunked you for all the Yellow food on the plate and two starches but no veggies. Corn is a grain as is the wheat in the pasta. How about some green beans?
Sides are always hard for me. I want to provide a good variety but then it’s hard to think of new stuff each week.
Good grief, the shells are pasta, NOT noodles. Pasta is from Italy, noodles are from Asia. Why do so many people from the US not understand the difference?
