  • Sorry for the later than usual upload on for this video, but I wanted to add some things to the video it to make it better (yeah, I'm sort of a perfectionist myself). So, here's one video on the 42nd Street Complex, and why it spans from 5th Avenue all the way to 8th Avenue. This is one of my longer videos (my third longest) on this channel, so sit back, relax, and enjoy!!!

We love the 42nd Street Shuttle. Yes it's quirky with its lack of seating to fit as many people as possible and the times it's fully wrapped in advertising like for Doritos or M&M's but that's what makes it great and unique.

The best part: you can get off the 7 at 5th Ave, walk through the station complex, then hop the 7 train again at 42/Times and taking it back to 5th Ave, making this journey an infinite loop once you're through the fare gates. It takes around 10 minutes to complete per lap.
So if you find yourself on the subway with time to kill, you can do a few laps of the 7 Train infinite loop.

"So how congested and complicated do you want to be?"
    Times Square 42nd Street: Yes
Whenever I ride, I love just listening to the automated announcements list all the connections there as if they're running out of breath.

This reminds me of Bank station in London, where it’s famous for its long corridors. Great video, and greetings from London 😁👍🏻

You can also see the abandoned track leading down to the lower level at 42nd St. from the uptown platform. It ramps down along the entire length.

It is still unclear as to why the 42nd street lower level platform was built in the first place

I've heard people argue it was done by the IND with the intention of keeping the IRT from extending the 7. Not sure how truthful that explanation is though.

@@G.Librange It sounds petty enough to be true. The lower platform even had to be demoed for eventual expansion lol

Btw the other station in where you can transfer to all original ind, bmt, and irt lines is Fulton st. A little correction since you said that Times Square is the only one.

That was a great viedo of the 42 st Junction in manhattan. Where you change from IND BMT and IRT without going outside. But you'll be walking for about 15 or 20 min.

I find it amusing that the 7 train stops twice within the complex which keeps going for quite a bit.
Some are calling for the 10th Ave stop be built with a walkway to Port Authority (in which although you'd leave fare control you'd be able to walk from 5th to 10th Ave all indoors.
