Coney Island is so developed that you can see it clearly from Staten Island North Shore. Also, if you look real closely on a clear day, you can see Rockaway Point Queens. The Inlet (which is what the Rockaways is a part of) is almost directly below Brooklyn, but a little further east from the Peninsula. Yes! Peninsula is a land mass connected to the main body of land. Why its called a Peninsula and not an Inlet, I don't know. But I do know this is not an Island like Rikers, Randall and Roosevelt, which is surrounded by water.

Thank you for a well-informative history about the BMT and the IND lines. You have just visited my neighborhood. I have been there since 1977. This is where I became more acquainted with many rapid transit lines in 1971 while I was a high school student. I am still a subway buff.

He did clear up a lot of things about LIRR being the sole provider on the island, which was told to me in random.
But it is good to see it was partially true that it once extend from it terminus. But I thought it was the Brighton Line. I was incorrect. It had it own separate route to the Peninsula. And so glad my mind is cleared from why things are the way it is today.

Very cool info! I live in the area and didn't know some of these things such as lower level track on Brighton Q line. :)
(please run your audio through volume normalization, mostly it's good but there are moments where it's too loud)

I remember when the NYC subway map showed green lines for the BMT, black lines for the IRT, and red lines for the IND which stood for the Independent City Owned Subway Lines. It lasted from 1958 til 1964 when a bright blue line was shown for the 1964, 1965 New York World's Fair on the 7 Flushing line.

I thought the reason for the renovation was because of water damage serving the terminal station - similar to the #7. The work was so intensive that they ripped up all the trackways, which was rebuilt in a similar style. But anyone who had used the station before the renovation knows the changes.

6:11 The trains to Stillwell Ave Station are all the same size, none are the narrower trains that run or 'IRT lines' ?

It's a shame that the Bronx didn't do the same with the end of its lines. Would have been perfect for me, since I lived near the 6 line and my high school (Bronx Science) was on the end of the 4 line (It was actually faster to take the bus).
I would always tell my friends that the 8 train is coming, and it will connect all the terminals in the Bronx!
