R160s are better than the R143

*Hell Yea*
@@qcbeast478 the other way around
The difference is that the r143's and the r160's don't immediately get taken out of service due to issues.

FACT
It’s the R179s now lol
To be honest, this information really has no practical use(sadly), but I'm glad I know it. Thank you!
I would never notice such subtle differences. I usually tell them apart by the sounds they make. We just had the R179's on the A not too long ago and they're easier to tell apart from the others.
You could tell the difference between the R179 and R160s and R143s even without the sounds they make because the R179 is FAT and the headlights are lower to the base of the train
And also, the R179 makes a hissing noise like every 2 seconds when it's moving for some reason but the R160 and R143 don't
@@jaydottt_transitfanner Now I know what to look for, thanks lol.
Very entertaining AND informative. Wish there were more like it. I kind of gave up on this sort of thing after R-46. I used to love knowing the difference between 44s and 46 just by a half second glance. There were so many differences, especially before the rebuilding of each fleet. The original R-46 with its lightweight truck was very different. People don't realize what a tragic setback it was when they were forced to have conventional heavy weight trucks put in. Also, the propulsion system had a mode called wayside regulated, meaning the train was operated manually, but power would be increased automatically to maintain a set speed, even if going uphill. The controler handle, which looked like the top of mom's electric iron, would face 12 o'clock. Turn it to 3 o'clock and you would be in waysinde manual and you would slide it up for power (with stops at swithcing, series, parallel). Swing it to 9 o'clock and you would be in wayside regulated (with stops at 10, 20 ... 70, 80). I'm pretty sure 70 and 80 were cut-out and maybe I reversed 3 and 9 o'clock. If anyone knows better, please chime in. Speaking of chimes the 44 and 46 chimes were a little different too, but those details are for another day.
That is a pretty interesting tidbit of information, thanks for sharing. That wayside regulated system seems confusing, but it sounds very interesting nonetheless. Know i'm a little late on the response lol !🤣
The differences are so little with the R179 and R160. Like why not install WiFi on the train and plug outs and make big differences
Dumbass
WiFi sure, but outlets?
That's the r211 that will have that
The cars already have wifi built in, but it is not for public use.
@@justrant Outlets will eventually become wireless. So that phone and other devices will charge automatically.
R143: Electronic strip maps
R160 & R179: FIND
Yes.
Did you know the r143 and the r142a has the same propulsion
@@Jayden.nycccccc and so does the r188
Yep
Did you know can request a stop?
Awesome video! Thanks for posting.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who noticed the lighting in the train cars!
Congrats on 100 subs!
Well there is another difference that some people hadn't noticed yet. On the R143, There are Strip Maps Instead of Regular LED Signage boards Which can be found on the R179 And R160A/B. 1:38 Look at the Top Right and you would see the Strip map, which isn't a LED signage. At 1:43 On the top right It is a LED signage. Just a little note there, Overall, Nice video!
So you mean?
R143: Electronic Strip Map
R160 and R179: FIND
@@itsmeBRIK The R143's "Strip Map" is just like the R188's R142A conversion strip maps, just straight paper image. The ones on the R160A-1, R160A-2, R160B-Alstom, R160B-Siemens and R179 are LED, Updating Signage boards. That applies for MOST of the NTT's.
@@itsmeBRIK Hoping that helped.
2:50 That says “winodow”
Don’t forget that on 1:51 it says spekeres too!

Really enjoyed the video.
good video! i like the R143 propulsion the best, haha
Good video man
Excellently made 👌
Awesome video!
R143 propulsion is bombardier mitrac 3 phase igbt-vvvf two level ac traction motors model 1508c pulse width modulation. R160A propulsion is Alstom onix igbt vvvf ac traction motors model 4lca1640a. R160b, Siemens sitrac igbt vvvf traction motors model 1tb17101ga02. R179 bombardier mitrac motors ac traction motors model tm1301sp.
well said other lines that use Bombardier MITRAC 1508c propulsion are 4,6 & 7 trains IRT & 4lca1640a 2,4, & 5 trains IRT
Oh, I know that, thanks for pointing that out.
Impressive job and for the R160B Alstom & R160A they have R142 2,3,4 & 5 trains (IRT West & East side main lines) propulsion while the R143 has the R142A R188 family propulsion found on 4,6 & 7 trains (IRT East Side and Flushing lines). Other unique propulsion is the R160B Siemens 8843-9102 (N Q & W trains) and R179 which has the updated MITRAC propulsion sound
3 only uses R62s.
Like you said, you only shared visible and audio differences. But for those of you that have never operated this equipment, the differences are much greater than that. Acceleration and braking is quicker in 143 & 179 where 160s are a subtle acceleration/braking. The controls and cab layouts are different. Announcements are different. 143/160s have a T controller where 179 had a hook handle, or what we like to call "welcome to Karpal tunnel syndrome."
R143 has fleet numbers of 8101 to 8312. R160 has fleet numbers of 8313 to 9974. R179 has fleet numbers of 3010 to 3309(this is not for sure but was stated on R179 contracts with Bombardier)
Also R160 can be broken into two types R160 A and R160B. R160A can be further broken into two types: R160A-1 and R160A-2. R160A-1 are 4 car sets and R160A-2 are 5 car sets. R160B are all in 5 car sets. R160A-1 numbers are 8313 to 8652 and 9943 to 9974. R160A-2 numbers are 8653 to 8712 and 9233 to 9802. R160B numbers are 8713 to 9232 and 9803 to 9942.

Miscellaneous Differences not listed:
- The R143s and R160s both have a narrower appearance when viewed from the front. The R179s appear wider.
- The R160’s storm doors have a large looped handle to open the doors, the R179 has a small metal lever, which makes it a bit harder to open.
- The R179’s LED destination sign takes longer to scroll through the time, destination and next stop than the R143 and R160, Which may have been a “quirk” carried over from the R142 since it was also manufactured by Bombardier.
- The R143s and R160s both use the newer softer door chime also heard on the R188 and R211. The R179 uses the older, sharper sounding door chime heard on the R142s and R142As.
- The R143s and R160s both have similar dimensions, at 60 feet long, 9 feet wide and 12 feet tall. The R179s dimensions differ, being slightly larger by 60.5 x 9.88 feet but shorter in terms of height at 11 feet.
- The R143 uses incandescent light bulbs for headlights, the R160 and R179 both use halogen bulbs instead. Some R160s were retrofitted with LED bulbs for headlights.
- The American Flag and MTA symbol on the front are slightly smaller on the R179 than the R160 and R143.
- The R143s and R160Bs were both manufactured by Kawasaki, the R160As by Alstom and the R179s by Bombardier
- The R143s are numbered 8101 through 8312
- The R160As, not counting separately by number sets, are numbered 8313 through 9802. The R160Bs are numbered 8713 through 9232 and 9803 through 9942.
- The R179s are numbered 3010 through 3049 and 3238 through 3327 for 5 car sets, and 3238 through 3327 for 4 car sets.
The most obvious difference from the R179
*The doors are 4 inches apart while moving*
The Alstom R-160 sounds like it's about to play the original _Star Trek_ theme.
Very informative
cool simple tips. epic person
Informative
Thanks for the video! I prefer the Alstom propulsion over the others. While I only rode the R179 a handful of times, every time I look at them, they look cheap compared to the R143s & R160s.
For me, I prefer the R160 siemens propulsion over the others

This song is called Delightful D by Kevin MacLeod.
true, says so in description
Amazing how you saw the difference between the interior schemes
On the R143, the sign with the next stops is like the NTT(New Technology Trains) IRT trains unlike the R160 and R179
I found you again
The R143 is basically an IND/BMT-ified R142A.
The R160 and R143 announcements are kind of both the same but the R179 has a pause between the part where the train tells ants destination and what the next stop is
Also, the door closing strobe is different on the r179 and the front handrails and the motorman's side window and the red door indicator lights and the find lcd screen is bigger
this song hits
Small observation. It appears the headlamp wells on the R143 & R160 are angled oval inset wells around both of each headlamp and taillight pair, meanwhile the R179 has individual circular inset wells around each headlamp & taillight.
Yeah. The R143 and R160 are bigger than the R179.
I personally love the R160
They do better then the… lemons (R179)
Also the fronts of the r179 makes them look almost bulky while the r160 looks more matured …. So much optical illusions
Love the editing! What program do you use?
Do all the train difference next
on the front of the train on the bottom, there is a little cut off . the R179 has a bigger cut-off than the R143 and R160
the 179 sound is taken from PTA right? it sounds the exact same
It also looks like the R179 didn't have an indicator on what car model it is. Usually, it's placed next to the car number on the interior.
It does
The r179 sound is like a combination of the r143 sound and the r160 sound
I don’t like how the r179 has an unfinished design (for example, the red door indicators inside the car looks really sloppy and most of the ad space has random blue text
(i think) note that the R179 had first started running the MTA line in 2017 and is quite new so expect some imperfections
VERNONBLVJSCSONAVUNE On the 7 train and 6 train Oh? that’s a lot later than I thought it started service
The R44 is the fastest subway car in the world btw
@@Vxllain I think the Toronto Rocket trains are now fastest cause they have a curved front like a high speed train.
@@turtleeater3827 Wrong, R44’s are still the fastest.
honestly the R179s are my favorite trains
The head light surround on the R160 and the R143 are the same but on the R179 it is different because on the R160 and R143 the headlight surround is more of a rectangle/oval where on the R179 it is just 2 circles instead
I like it
I love it
lol no u didnt
Dude, it was 2 years ago.
The door chime on the R143s and R160s are the same and also used on the R188s and the door chime on the R179 is the exact one from the R142 and R142As
R143: I have one door perfect
R160: I have 2 doors
R179L: Me too
R160 and R179L: 2 Doors are better than 1
R179L: just odd looking picture frames
R143 and R160: 2 heads are better than 1
R179L: Black border with 1 fancy panel
R160: Black Border with 1 buried panel
R143: Grey :P
That was R143 R160 And R179L in a nutshell
So L trains have a solid done or and the r160 L train is metal
I nowtice the R 179 on the side cab widow the R179s was a bit more narrow. But the R160s & R143s were more sharp!
More differences: the r143 and r160 trucks are different from the r179, there are weird shapes on the blind ends of the r179, the cab windows are more curved on the r179, and the r160 is the most common out of them all
That Music Is Delightful D By Kevin MacLeod
The interior FIND displays on the R160s is smaller than the 179s, meanwhile the 143 is just the L stripmap similar to 142/142a’s/188’s. Also the outer interiors, the 179s are shinier than the 143s/160s and the letter signs on the 179s are brighter and red orange compared to 160s which are red and 143s which are blood orange.
Emil S
Enjoyed the video. Hard to top the R160 interior cool feel.
No it’s slightly bigger
Easiest way to tell a 179 is how shiny it is lol
NDude make a difference between thr R160 and R160B please
Whats the music name?
R179 has a slight delay in announcements.
Car numbering is different
R143, (R143 Simens), R160, R160 Simens and R179 Trains
The gard bars on the front of the door on the front looks different. The r179 has a round one and the r160 has a sharp one
You forgot on the R179 on the conductor window the corners are curved and on the R160 and R143 the corners are sharp (not too sharp)
the way the lights are placed and shaped
to me the difference is, R160 + R179: Ugly,
R143: i love it looks so cool
the r160 and r143 look similar just the flag placement 😂😂
1:27, also, the R179 has nails on the exterior of the door frames, whereas the R160 has nails on the interior.
There’s A Diffrence Between R143 R160 And R179 On Chine R179 Has The R142 And R142A Chimes R143 R160 And Also R188 Have A Bit of a Different Chime Tone
Also, r179s appear to have a flatter roof on the front.
Can you do the r62vsr62a
When you said that R143s have a warmer interior, while the R160s And R179s have a cooler interior,I thought you were taking about the temperature in them.
The marker lights on the 143 arent LED like the 160 or 179
the door chime!
Difference between R160A and R160B interiors and exteriors?
The strip maps are different on the R179 we’re it says (J) there is no border but on the r160 there is a border and the r143 has a strip map similar to the r142
And the 179’s top is flatter as where the 143’s and 160’s are more rounder and or fuller at the top
Hello!
what music
Currently, the R179 will replace all remaining R32s and recently replaced the R42 when it completed it’s final run on the A in 2020.
The sound of it is the difference
what about the wheel stucture
The R142A and the R188 also uses the R143 propulsion, and the R142 also uses the R160A propulsion.
4:10 R179 propulsion/lemon propulsion
The R143 propulsion sound exactly the same as the R142A and also the R188
Correct and for R160A-1 R160A-2 R160B Alstom propulsion is the R142 type found on 2,4 & 5 trains
@@theplushydogo3295 thanks another thing you can tell about this the propulsion because I've been on 9192 Q train Canal Street to 14th Street IRT Eastside line Alstom R160B and 8844 N train July 2015 Times Square 42nd Street to 34th Street Herald Square Siemens propulsion
@@theplushydogo3295 The R142 was actually built by Bombardier.

I like all the train
do a r142a and r188 please
Technologically the front of all trains
Here’s another. The r143 sounds like an r142a or r188, the r160 sounds like the r142, and the r179 sounds like a dying cat when it accelerates
You didn't mention the door motors
The r143 has incandescent tail lamps. The r160 & r179 have led tail lamps
N dude: the r160 and r179 have and art card.
Me: uh r160b?
1:05 which station/stations is this
No idea man
It is 2023 and I’m saying this right now: for those who still think the R179 is a lemon, think again. The R179 is the most reliable subway car on the system
Some r160s have solid side of the window
The exterior door frames are different between R143 and R160 to R179
Uau muito bom
R143 & R160: The safety chains longer. Longer = more height. R179: The safety chain is shorter.
Why pop eye doors?
You forgot to add that the r160s have new screens
You forgot that some r160s has led on the walls
Another Difference caught(Side windows on R179 are a little bit bigger
